The tiefling ability is actually oversized arms according to the table I was looking at, not Powerful Build. I know it's a small quibble, but I do like accuracy.

Sorry about that, that's the way that HeroLab displayed it, I'll make the manual correction now.

Your skill list is really cluttered up. Please only list the skills you are trained in. Which skills are your background skills?

Fixed that in the new stats panel below! :D

My background skills are Craft Bows and Handle Animal.

Where did your Favored Class bonus go?

I don't know why the export doesn't display that, but I took +1 hit point at level 1.

GM Phntm888 wrote:

Don't forget to list how many panache points you have (I believe it's equal to your Charisma modifier?).

Well, it's minimum 1, otherwise I'd have -1! :) I know it's not optimal, but I think I'll go with it anyways since it fits his personality.

GM Phntm888 wrote:

You've described his bow as a "Horn Bow" he crafted himself. How did he come by a horn big enough to make it? This isn't a critique, but I'm curious to see what you come up with.

The horns are from a Bull Aurochs that he witnessed Shalelu put down with arrows before it could reach her. I'm including this in the revised backstory! She left the Aurochs to his family farm, and he kept the horns until he learned how to make them into a bow.

Backstory Revised:

Yasu hadn't asked to be born. Yet, when Oni raided his mother's village, the troops sent to recover the captured villagers came back with several of the women with child. What came next led to the loss of the colony of Brinewall, but by then his mother had left for Magnimar alongside several others who lost their homes.
Yasu was one of such children born of the raid, and alongside the other oni-spawn, they were rejected by their families. He was left in the streets of Magnimar, and would have fallen into the clutches of one of the Sczarni gangs, if an orphanage hadn't taken him in first.
Years later he was adopted by a farming family in Sandpoint. Taken to his new home, he found he had new brothers and sisters, but they treated him as a freak. He was used as a source of physical labor, using his great strength to do work from a young age.
One day, as he was out working the fields, he had the fortune of witnessing a ranger perform some astounding feats of archery. An aurochs had gone mad, and was stampeding towards their barn when Shalelu, a ranger who considered the Sandpoint region her home, interceded. Her arrows dropped the aurochs only yards from Yasu's feet, and in that moment, he realized what he was missing in his life... and he decided that archery going to be his legend.
He trained, acquiring a cheap bow and learning to make his own arrows. He didn't have much talent for it; his large arms seemed to be made for things more like axes and plows. Yet, he kept at it.
Taking the horns from the aurochs Shalelu slain, he constructed a bow of a size better suited for his grip, and his skill started to improve. Though he couldn't shoot nearly as fast as the elf, his arrows packed a punch hers could not. This pleased him; he didn't want to replicate her style, but to make one of his own.
Before he knew it, the family that adopted him had started relying on him to bring in fresh meat from his hunts. He could drop a deer with a single shot, something that his brothers could not do with their crossbows.
Life had started to turn around. Though by the time he realized this, his foster family was already old and in poor health. When his foster parents passed, the children, already grown into adults with children of their own, decided that he was no longer welcome. They took the farm for their own, leaving him without a home or purpose.
Taking the bow he crafted himself and several arrows, he set out to Sandpoint proper. The swallowtail festival was coming again, and after the unpleasantness of the last several years, Yasu hoped that he could find some time during the festivities to get some tips from Shalelu or Ameiko, known town heroes, on how best to use his talents. If anything, he hoped he could find a place to earn his keep and find acceptance.

Thanks. I switched a skill rank to Linguistics to fix the languages, switched the trait and a feat, adjusted the background, and denoted spells prepped.
It's fine with me if he is uncertain and has a few different theories (a fragment of the dead god, a message sent forward in time, the reincarnation of a priest, or simply destined to take up the mantle). I as a player envision the Dark Tapestry having something to do with it, unbeknownst to him.

Looking around the board (I am new around here) I realized that a character as smutty as Mamise is unpleasant at best, offensive at worst. I meant no harm, but I can see how she could seem an immature sexual fantasy, so I think that I will change her background to something more castigate.
Sorry for the trouble.

Maybe ask for GM Phntm888's feedback? Depending on the group, some are more or less OK with specific character personalities and archetypes. The Runelords story also involves exploration of certain virtues and vices and your character's personality with respect to them, so it might be quite appropriate to the adventure.

In my opinion, just gotta 'read' the group you're playing with. Some people can handle that kind of character in a mature way. Which would be fine. Since, when handled maturely, can make for a really interesting character with perhaps nuanced motivations and reasons. However, there might be times where it doesn't fit. I suggest instead of making it blatant, you can include such details more subtly in her character? Give her more depth and layers that players would have to get through to find out exactly what drives her. Also, being a Calistrian follower kind of implies something that other characters would accept since that's a major religion.

Thank you, I will wait for GM Phntm888's feedback, then choose what to do. I just wanted to avoid being viewed as just another Calistrian Sex Doll (especially since I worship Cayden Cailean).

Got nuthin' on a Mystery Cultist of Arshea! :D

I guarantee you that 90% of our impression of your character would be in the roleplay and how you introduce her! :D Don't worry about it, lets just see how the GM feels about it!

Almost thought Azura was another submission. Good thing I checked to see who owned the profile.

Mamise- I shoot for PG-13 when it comes to my games. Flirting acceptable, flirting leading into adult situations acceptable, but the adult part is fade to black. I like to see levels to characters. If one of those levels is hedonist, fine. Just don't make the entire character about the hedonist.

If I think it's too much, I'll ask you to tone it down. If another player finds the adult themes offensive, I expect you to tone it down. As long as everyone is enjoying themselves, I don't crack down on player enjoyment.

Rule 0: This is a game. Games should be fun for all involved.

I hope that helps you.

Aroden - Looks good. If you get in, we'll work more on specifics.

Sorry 'bout that Phntm888. Azura's a character in a different game, obviously of a very different tenor. I just thought she was a pertinent example!

@GM Phntm888
Perfect, PG-13 and hidden depths is what I was aiming for, I was not expecting erotic fanfiction ;)
I have also tweaked a bit the background to make her a bit more well-rounded and believable. Thanks again for your time!

@Jesse Heinig
Azura is lovely <3

Here's my character, Amhanar Vadaresh, a formless adept psychic. Answers and stats are in the spoilers below.

Backstory:
Amhanar Vadaresh was born in the Vudrani city of Chendras, destined to follow the path of the Scholar Caste. Trained in the House of Abandonment to transcend the boundaries of physical form, he learned the beginnings of shedding his material self. But he began to tire of monastery life, tired of being raised as a tool of the rajah. And so, he escaped, and stowed away on a strange ship, on a course for a place he did not know.

The journey lasted for longer than he ever expected, and when he stumbled off the gangplank, he was in Korvosa. Alone and impossibly far from everything he knew, he found a job with House Arkona, the very merchants who owned the ship he stowed away upon. After joining the merchant operation, he was sent to negotiate protection with the Sczarni gangs, and found that he quite liked their style and was accepted into the fold. But with House Arkona looking to expand their operations, he was sent to Sandpoint to build connections during the Swallowtail Festival.

Personality and Appearance:
Amhanar is a tall Vudrani man, dressed in the distictive style of his homeland. Chocolate colored eyes reveal a keen intelligence and fine golden jewelry adorns his nutmeg colored skin. Occasionally parts of him lose focus, as if one were viewing him through translucent crystal.

Amhanar is an intelligent and calculating man, with a silver tongue to match his golden adornments. He is many things, a businessman, a traveler, and a scholar. However, at heart he is a psychic, and constantly seeks to improve his craft. As long as he can prove himself to the world, he will fight for any cause he deems worthy.

Here is a more finalized version of Demon Lurking's character. Everything has been added to the profile.

DM:
I'd picked Azlanti as a language of scholars, forgetting that Varisian made more sense for the backstory. Unfortunately other than Azlanti and Thassilonian, the rest of the languages are the ones offered to Elves as starting languages. Since Thassilonian comes from the Campaign Trait, Azlanti is getting changed to Varisian.

Thank you for this opportunity. Good luck to all the submissions.

With the growing list of Folk, we could have a tournament style 'filtering' as it were to help in the decision making.

Liberty's Edge

My character's background/fluff is pretty much finished, but I'm having a lot of difficulty figuring out her fighting style. Every time I think of something that sounds neat, I run into mechanics that make it not quite work.

*grumble grumble* I'll figure it out eventually.

Aurex the Blessed wrote:
Kunala: Mongolian actually makes the most sense, actually.

Yeah, after more deliberation I'm going to use Mongolian. I don't think the Shoanti would have their own alphabet, does anyone know for sure?

Imoya wrote:

A what?

@ GM Phntm888: Thanks!

I am also hoping Jago covers two roles.
One, the stealthy business.
Two, the blasty business.

Jesse - I wasn't annoyed by the posting since I didn't take the time to review it. If I'd reviewed it and then found out, I might have been a bit annoyed.

Mamise - I'm glad I was able to help give some guidance for you.

Simeon:

You appear to have too many languages. I do not give ethnic languages for free, so you will have to purchase Vudrani separately. I believe you should have 6 languages (Common + 4 Int + 1 Linguistics), so you will need to drop 2.

How did he learn Thassalonian? It's not exactly an oft-spoken language and outside of Thassilonian scholars few know it. If he is a Thassilonian Scholar, I would prefer you take the Scholar of the Ancients trait to reflect that as opposed to Family Ties, although I will not enforce it.

How is it he managed to hide aboard a ship for the months-long journey from Vudra to Korvosa without being discovered? He isn't trained in Stealth, and he certainly wouldn't have been able to smuggle aboard enough food for himself, which means he would have had to steal the crew's food. Ship's captains tend to notice when food goes missing.

Why would House Arkona hire someone who stowed away in their ship and not just turn him over to the Order of the Nail in Korvosa?

I like your concept and where you're going, but I feel like there are a lot of holes in the character.

Ellyrion - It looks much better.

Imoya - I don't that a tournament is needed. I'll pick the submissions I find the best.

Orannis - That is the big drawback. If you would like, you can tell me what you're thinking, and I can maybe make some suggestions.

Merely a humorous attempt at a conversation starter.

GM Phntm888:
I'll remove Orc and Thassilionian as the two extra languages and I suppose it would work just as well for him to have signed on to the ship's crew. It would also explain how he began to work for House Arkona.

Okay, so I am definitely interested in a RotRL campaign. My character concept is Kargas Stormscar, half-orc Bloodrager (air elemental bloodline), a pseudo-exile of the Stormscar tribe in the Hold of Belkzen. I promise to post full stats/fluff/etc soon; just moved into a new apartment and don't have Internet set up & doing all this on my phone would be a hassle.

Simeon - Those changes should work. Thank you much.

I was thinking of doing a pole-arm fighter built to skirmish, using things like Spring-Attack and Spring-Heeled style. Problem is, with how Armor Styles work, I'd be stuck in light armor for my whole career (no Mithral breastplate for me). I've never been one to prioritize optimization, but I don't want to be hittable by everey hopeful mook with a short sword.

Although, it did occur to me that I could make room in my feats for Disruptive and Spellbreaker, which would give my character a clearer purpose in combat. "Mage-killer" goes especially well with my better-than-average Will saves for a Fighter.

Mithral armor is treated as one category lighter, turning medium armor into light. I didn't see anything specifically saying you couldn't use even Mithral armor with any of the fears you mentioned or their prerequisites. Unless I missed something?

Grand Lodge

YOu still need the armor prof to wear medium even if it is mithril I am pretty sure

Go to Cade Goodbarrel.

This is my submission..
Please let me know what if anything needs to be changed or adjusted..
Thanks

Almost missed this. Timezone GMT +12 for Talia.

GM Phntm888 Questions:

Why leather lamellar over chain shirt? Since lamellar is an eastern armor, it's somewhat exotic for the area. I'd like you to maybe work something into your backstory to show how you acquired it.

--- I went with chain shirt.. was mainly because leather lamellar looks freaking awesome and I imagined him with it over a chainshirt.

---Although Lamellar in RL is not just eastern (Golarion.. I spose), there have been samples found used by Vikings and at the battle of Visby (Sweden).

How long has Tanrov been in Sandpoint? If more than 5 years, what was his reaction to the Late Unpleasantness? How does he feel about the Sandpoint Cathedral, specifically that Pharasma was not included as one of the deities to get a shrine in the Cathedral? What is his relationship with Father Abstalar Zantus, head priest of the Cathedral?

--- Tanrov has been in Sandpoint approximately 2 years and yes, he would not be pleased about Pharasma not being included as one of the Temple Gods. He had quite fiery confrontations with the priests and in the end founded his shrine to allow the voice of Pharasma to be heard amongst the people of Sandpoint.

Abstalar Zantus was heard to tell Tanrov "We do not venerate the goddess of the end of life here, we worship those that bring society forward not revere it's end".

He has a shrine on Church street the approach to the Temple, which he takes advantage of to read passages from Pharasmas Holy Book The Bones Land in a Spiral and preach to the people attending services. He tries to show them how important the Lady of Graves is to all and how she should have been included in the new temple.

Imoya's backstory edited.

The Armor Style feats require you to be wearing their associated category of armor, irrespective of special materials altering that category. Each one allows for use of the feats with any armor you are proficient with if you possess the Armor Training ability, but Sensate trades that away.

Alright here goes: Kargas Stormscar

FLUFF

Movie plot spoiler:
Making their lair in the weathered remnants of Shieldring Keep (formerly a major stronghold anchoring the Sunwall, Lastwall’s first line of defense that fell to the orcs of Belkzen long ago) in the foothills of the Mindspin Mountains, the Stormscars are not the largest or the strongest tribe in the Hold of Belkzen, but their reputation is growing. Decorating their bodies with swirling ritual scars rubbed with a blue ash-paste, these distinctive warriors are swift hunters and brutal raiders—but their greatest weapon is their cadre of “stormragers”, berserkers with the power of the tempest searing through their veins. Taking the thunderbird as their totem, the Stormscars fight primarily with spears, bows, and falchions, their swift-moving troops raiding & ambushing in small warbands, signaling major engagements with the thunderous roll of drums.

Kargas’ early years were ones of brutality & survival, as his human blood made him an easy target for other children or warriors having a bad day. As he neared adulthood, however, the hulking half-orc began earned some grudging respect for his size and ferocity, but his human blood denied him true acceptance. One day Kargas’ hunting party was ambushed by the rival Warscreamer tribe—in the desperate fighting Kargas first demonstrated the coveted “stormrage” powers and managed to escape with several of his kin. This development set off a storm of argument amongst the tribe’s shamans and elders, for while many saw Kargas as favored by the tribe’s thunderbird totem, many others resented his human blood. A compromise was struck: as a test of the thunderbird’s favor, Kargas was tasked with travelling beyond the Hold of Belkzen and slaying a “great beast” as proof of his worthiness. Few in the tribe expect to ever see him again. Travelling by night to avoid the Shoanti—long enemies of the orcs—Kargas reached Kaer Maga and in a tavern there overheard the legend of the Sandpoint Devil. Kargas decided that such a creature would be a worthy prize, and caught a boat to Magnimar, travelling by foot from there to the small village of Sandpoint. His years as a hunter in his tribe have prepared him well, giving him a working knowledge of geography and the building of simple snares—the wilderness holds little fear for Kargas, but he finds himself a little bewildered by towns—a fact he would never willingly admit.

Kargas stands 6’ 4” and is heavily muscled with dark grey skin, with oversized lower canines and sharp green eyes, weighing in at 230 pounds. His most distinctive features are the blue scars that cover his arms and torso—spirals and whorls of great spiritual significance to the Stormscar tribe. His experiences with humans have largely been violent—conflicts with the defenders of Lastwall—but his orc huntress mother spoke (in private) with respect of the Shoanti and Kargas has a burning curiosity about elves, halflings, and gnomes. The traditional tales of his people’s long wars against the dwarves has built up a strong prejudice against those stout folk. As a stranger in a strange land, Kargas tends to speak little and is slow to trust. Knowing that he is unlikely to be viewed favorably by local authorities, he puts some effort into avoiding fights with locals, and has more than once on his journey intimidated thugs and belligerent drunks out of picking a fight with him.

Also I forgot to mention earlier, but I'm living in Hamburg for the next year due to a Fulbright scholarship. That puts me 6 hours ahead of EST if that matters.

Raltus - You do, but the fighter archetype Orannis is using does not sacrifice Medium Armor Proficiency. Proficiency was not the issue.

Cade Goodbarrel - Welcome! I'll look over your submission when I get to a computer.

Tanrov:

Okay, those all look good. You still have Shoanti listed under your languages, though. You'll need to either spend a point in Linguistics or drop the language.

Imoya - Okay. I'll look over it later.

Orannis - I read the Armor Style Feat stuff in context, instead of just looking up the feat online. I see what you mean.

The Style Feat Chain looks Dex intensive. With a good Dex and othe forms of armor boosts, like natural, you should be okay. You can get your AC really high using only light armor.

CrusaderWolf - I'll look over it when I get to a computer. Congrats on the scholarship!

I forgot to mention, I'm in GMT -5 (GMT -4 for the summer). Yay daylight savings time.

We need to abolish DST. It serves no purpose, either in power savings or for farmers, and screws up our sleep schedule twice a year.

Cade Goodbarrel:

Was this a recycled profile? Because that would explain a lot of the issues I found.

Your stats appear to be made of a 32 Point buy before Racial Mods (Str 12-2 10, Dex 18+2 20, Con 13, Int 14, Wis 10, Cha 14+2 16). Remember, an 18 on its own costs 17 of your 20 points.

Your saving throws are all 1 too high with your existing stats (although those should change. Base attack Bonus should be +1, not +2.

You don't need to have Weapon Finesse listed under your feats. Just leave the note next to Inspired Finesse that it counts as Weapon Finesse for the purpose of meeting prerequisites.

I think your Trained Skill list is: Acrobatics, Appraise, Bluff, Intimidate, Knowledge (local), Perception, Profession (Gambler), Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand. That does make one too many, as you have 6 skill points + 2 Background, unless you put your Favored Class Bonus into the skill point.

Speaking of, what is your Favored Class Bonus?

You only have 2 traits listed. You should have three traits, one of which needs to be a campaign trait. Check out the Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition Player's Guide (free on this website) for some options, as well as some more general information about Sandpoint.

Do you really have 2 rapiers? The free outfit you get must be 10 gp or less, as well, so unless you purchased the noble's outfit, please change that.

There are two inns in Sandpoint. One is the White Deer, proprietor Garridan Viskalai, the other is the Rusty Dragon, proprietor Ameiko Kaijitsu. Please switch his inn and proprietor to the one of those two, your choice.

CrusaderWolf:

Falchion to-hit should be +1 BAB + 4 Str +1 Weapon Focus = +6, not +8.

Which skills are trained? Listing out all of the skills is a little confusing, so just list the ones you have ranks in.

I included only skills listed in the Bloodrager profile, would you prefer I list only skills with ranks, and not include stat modifiers/gear/armor check penalty?

Okay, noob question: am I not able to edit a post?

Only for a short time, after which yer stuck

Skills you have ranks in, including all modifiers. If you don't have ranks in it, don't list it.

Feel free to look at some of the other submissions profiles to see what I mean.

I have all mine listed, with class skills in bold. Should I delete all the untrained ones? You didn't mention it to me earlier so I figured I would ask before doing it.

I did increase Kargas' hp by 1 to factor in his favored class bonus, also changed one of his traits because I had two from the Combat list.

Laufey - The formatting made it easy to read, so I didn't say anything.

CrusaderWolf:

Much better. Make sure you include some of his Gorum worship, since you took Veteran of Battle.

Hey folks, figured I'd throw my lot in and give my Living Grimoire Inquisitor/VMC Magus, Leanor Kandelu, another shot at a Runelords recruitment! Hopefully she's all up to scratch for your assessment Phntm888, but I'm always happy to address any questions or issues you might find.

For the record, I'm in the GMT/BST timezone, but my work schedule is somewhat hectic, meaning I'm typically active closer to EST/EDT.

Dawnic:

I giggled at the thought of someone in combat smacking enemies with a book. That's an incredibly interesting archetype.

Between the Magus VMC and the Amateur Investigator feats, and with Living Grimoire borrowing the Warpriest's Sacred Weapon ability, you seem to be a bit all over the map. I'm slightly concerned you could be spreading yourself too thin, and you'll end up feeling slightly frustrated in combat at higher levels. It's something that can happen if you don't have a clear focus on where your character is going, so I'd keep that in mind.

For plot reasons, I would like you to change your Lore choice. I normally wouldn't ask a player to do that, but I feel this is a case where I need to. If you'd like, you can switch it to another Thassilonian nation.

What is your Favored Class Bonus?

Everything looks good otherwise.

GM Phntm888:

I did spend a point in linguistics good sir

GM Phntm888:

Hahaha! I admit, the Living Grimoire is probably right up there as one of my favourite archetypes at the moment. Bashing people to death with a book is just so rife with RP reactions, isn't it?

That saaaaaid--Mechanically, I can totally see what you mean. Alas, this is also my most hated thing about Inquisitors...not having that starting BAB does choke you out of all the typical choices I'd be making, as she is designed to be a martial with that book of hers (Power Attack, Weapon Focus, and so forth...)

Honestly, Amateur Investigator was just something I threw in that would fit thematically. I'm still not particularly happy with it myself, and I'm open to any suggestions on the matter. It's just...blasted +1 BAB requirements...

As for the Magus, while it's certainly not optimal by any means, you'd be surprised what it's be able to pull off by the mid-tier. Sacred Weapon + Arcana stacking works plenty fine, and being able to pick-and-choose from a range of weapon bonuses gives you some interesting toys to play with. Plus magus arcana. Still, I can see your concern. I'd be happy to drop Magus entirely and run with a more conventional build and shove Toughness in there for added survivability. In fact, I've already done it. Because I'd like her to not die and live long enough to really beat things to death.

You'll find the Favored Bonus went into Hit Points, and I've taken the liberty of replacing the Lore with Craft (Bookbinding). Because of course that's what she has. If chosen, I may have her pick up Lore again for a Thassilonian nation (it's just part of her shtick, sadly :P) - you're welcome to suggest a more appropriate pick if/when we come to that.

TL;DR - Feat Swapped to Toughness, VMC Magus dropped, Lore (Shalast) shifted to Craft (Bookbinding).
