Ameiko happily receives both boars, and says she'll make one for tonight. Calling for a couple of her kitchen helpers, she asks them to take the other to the Sandpoint Meat Market to have Chod Bevuk butcher it for later.

The boar taken care of, everyone who needs to take some time cleaning up does so, and gathers back in the common room. Aldern himself comes down to sit with you after having changed into more normal clothing. Wonderful cooking smells begin coming from the kitchen of the Rusty Dragon, and word seems to have gotten around that Ameiko is preparing something delicious as the inn's common room fills with people. Indeed, you notice several of the inn's staff setting up extra tables and benches outside, to accommodate a rapidly growing crowd.

Finally, dinner is served. The first course is a boar soup in a broth you are told is called white miso. Though you've never heard of it, you can immediately tell it's a most delicious soup.

Aldern takes a spoonful and says, "My word! This is possibly the best boar soup I've ever eaten! It's wonderful! Tell me, have any of you ever tasted something so wonderful?"

I'll be working through each course individually, giving you time to RP through each. Feel free to do so.

Sorry! I thought I had posted after the hunt, but hadn't. I hope the wait wasn't for me!

Back in Sandpoint and the Rusty Dragon, Laufey puts her clothes in a bucket of water to soak out the blood. She cleans herself up and dresses, then goes downstairs to join the others.

"The soup is quite fantastic." Rasmorn agrees with a content grin. He glances over at Talia, winks, and says "It has a certain kick to it - maybe using the acid wasn't so bad after all!"

Yasu prepares himself, cleaning up. He comes down bare-faced, but after seeing the growing crowds he turns around on the stairs and goes back up. He returns with his hood and mask on.

The second course comes out. Slices of roasted boar with an ale reduction, mushrooms, roasted baby potatoes, and garlic sautéed green beans. Everything is seasoned to perfection, and there is plenty of everything.

As you happily dig into the wonderful food presented to you, the door to the Rusty Dragon slams open and in walks an elderly-appearing Tian man with his cane, a sour look on his face. He shouts something out in an unfamiliar tongue.

Minkai:

"Where the hell is my daughter?"

The crowd of the Rusty Dragon, a look of recognition on their faces, grows silent and absorbed with their food. Those who are locals recognize him as Lonjiku Kaijitsu, local noble and Ameiko's father, the owner of the Sandpoint Glassworks. He has a bit of a reputation for angry outbursts, so this attitude is seemingly unsurprising.

Lonjiku stalks about the tavern, looking about for Ameiko. Upon seeing your around your table, his eyes light up in recognition.

"You!" he shouts, approaching your table, cane thumping. "You and your goblin antics are endangering the lives of the people in this town! Running about with your weapons thinking you're some kind of heroes! You should have left the defense of this town to the guards! At least then trained professionals would have dealt with it, instead of your foolhardy lunatic scrambling!"

Isabella rises from her chair; as she does so she gestures with her left hand for the rest of the team to remain seated. She turns to face Lonjiku and says, "Master Kaijitsu, wouldn't you agree that people should defend their homes and their families from such a disaster? We were doing no more, no less. Goblins came into our home; we had to defend ourselves and our loved ones."

It seems odd that she would do this while telling the group to keep back, until compared to how a warrior might intercept a charging enemy. She's grabbing his attention deliberately and interposing herself to fight the social monster.

Laufey doesn't look up or acknowledge the old man. She simply keeps eating as if she were deaf.

Yasu swallows the bite of his stew. "What shoe size are you?" he asks loudly. It almost comes across as a demand.

He leans forward. "Helmock was with us when we found human shoeprints showing someone helped the goblins in, and you were unaccounted for the entire attack." With that, Yasu stands up. "So. Where were you, that you DIDN'T need to defend yourself from goblins?"

Intimidate: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Lonjiku snorts loudly at Isabella's words. "You may be able to make that claim, but the rest of these vagrants aren't from Sandpoint. They were meddling in affairs that should best be left to those who know what they are doing."

"As for you," he snaps, turning to Yasu, "not that it's any of your business, but I was in my manor. My servants will vouch for me. But what about you? Perhaps you helped the goblins out a little bit? Maybe so you could spend a bit of time playing hero so the townsfolk would forget what you are, devilboy? In fact, how do we know that these other outlanders weren't involved in planning the raid? You all ought to be locked up for the good of Sandpoint!"

Female Half-elf Rogue 3. HP 22/22, AC16, Fort +2, Ref +7, Will +1, +1 Reflex to avoid traps, +2 vs. enchantment spells and effects . Init +7, Perception + 11 (Vs Traps and surprise +12)

Talia gives Lonjiku the look of contempt he deserves. "Wonderful, accusing anyone you don't like of anything you can think of! Any more wild rants you have to share with us?"

Sitting back down she returns to her meal. "While you were cowering in your manor Yasu was defending the town. Should we all do as you say and stand back and watch the next time we see people being attacked?."

"I am a respected member of this community. And yes, you disrespectful half-breed, you should stand back and let the guards do their jobs! That's what they're paid for, unlike you hooligans, who like as not will make things worse!"

As Lonjiku seems to have the bit in his mouth, it becomes increasingly clear that he will become more and more angry as he's engaged. Suddenly, Ameiko comes bursting out of the kitchen, holding a still-dripping ladle, saying, "What's all the commotion about?"

Lonjiku turns to face his daughter and says something in a different language, which she responds to in the same tongue. The two go back and forth animatedly, with Lonjiku gesturing at certain points for emphasis.

Minkai:

"Ameiko! I have decided that we are leaving Sandpoint and returning to Magnimar. You will gather your things so we can leave in one week. That should be enough time for you to sell...this."

"Father, I'm not leaving Sandpoint. I've lived my whole life here, and have friends and a successful business."

"I am your father, and you will show me respect! We are leaving for Magnimar. Besides this inn is hardly a 'respectable' business. You can have a much more respectable past time in Magnimar, more fitting for someone of your status."

"No. I am not going with you. If you decide to return to Magnimar, you will do it without me."

"You will either show me respect and come with me to Magnimar, or I will disown you! You will no longer be a part of the Kaijitsu family!"

"You wouldn't do anything of the sort, old man. Now, would you kindly remove your loud-mouthed, arrogant, wrinkly old ass from my inn and stop harassing my d@%? guests!"

Whatever Ameiko's last words were, they clearly enrage Lonjiku. He moves forward and attempts to grab her by the hair, but the woman deftly evades his grasp and smacks him with her ladle, spilling stock and potatoes on his hair and clothing. Lonjiku stands there for a moment with a look of pure rage on his face before turning and thumping his way to the door, where he pauses, turns back, and says, "You're as dead to me as your mother." He then opens the door and strides out of the tavern.

Ameiko's eyes seem to well a bit with the beginnings of tears from the last remark, but she picks up her ladle, pulls a hair out of it, and says, "I'll need a well-cleaned ladle now, since jackass stew's not on the menu." Those in the tavern begin to laugh and cheer, which seems to do wonders for Ameiko's mood.

"I'm sorry about that altercation, Ameiko," says Isabella sadly. "I fear that he's become so used to taking out his frustrations on people that it's difficult to soothe his temper. Since he can't control you... he takes it out on people around you."

Laufey finally looks up.

"He is a wrinkled prune. I know his kind. His cock stopped working long ago so now he tries to show he is still a man by shouting others down" she says, gesturing with her spoon.

"Everything is an opportunity to take offense and he does. Yet, he relies on his frailty to protect him when he goes too far. They are hard to kill outright, it looks bad. So they must be shown contempt with silence, treated as ghosts. There is no middle ground for dealing with them."

Laufey returns to eating. After a moment she looks again, this time at Ameiko. "These foods are very good. I remember such smells from the Jade Quarter in Kalsgard. I was always curious, but I was not allowed to eat the foods from there."

Yasu plops back down to his seat. "So uh... that... happened." he stares down at his food. "Sorry guys. Me being here makes it easy for others to question your motives."

Isabella rests a comforting hand on Yasu's shoulder. "It's not about you... it's about him, his problems and his insecurities. I know you must have been through many times in your life when being different from the people around you has made things difficult, but this isn't one of them. This wasn't your fault."

"Yeah well.. As Laufrey said, the wizened prick looks for things to offend him, and makes them up if he can't find any. I bet there's more people here that would have you around now than him. Actions speak louder than words and all that!" Talia returns to her meal with vicious bites.

Ameiko smiles and says, "Thank you for the support. I'm sorry my father can be such an irascible old curmudgeon. He'd always been somewhat irritable, but ever since my mother died five years ago he's gotten worse. Laufey, thank you for the compliment on the food, and Yasu, this wasn't your fault. Please don't think it so. I have to get back to the kitchen, or Bethana may panic with the food. Please, enjoy the rest of your evening."

Ameiko then returns to the kitchen, still looking a little sad, but not in as sad a mood.

The remainder of the dinner is wonderful, and the evening passes without incident as everyone enjoys food, drink, and companionship.

The next morning, you awaken to the usual delicious food smells. It seems Ameiko has not allowed last night's events to dampen her spirits too much, and the food may be up to her usual fare.

Rasmorn makes his way downstairs in the morning, after preparing his spells. Not seeing any of his new friends around just yet, he grabs some breakfast and starts happily consuming it. I could get used to the whole "hero" gig, if it always involves such good food...

As is her habit, Laufey is in no rush to get an early start on the day. She had been among the last to bed the night before, staying down in the main room for several more ales after the meal.

After getting ready for the day, she hangs the clothing she left in the bucket the day before to dry. Afterward she goes downstairs to meet the others.

Talia groans and stretches her way out of her comfortable bed. Dressing automatically and stumbling downstairs for some much needed breakfast.

'Shouldn't have tried matching Laufrey ale for ale!' She reflects ruefully.

"Good morning all!" She greets anyone who is up. "Who's up for a breakfast fry up?"

Yasu is found that morning, likely the first one down, but quiet and unobtrusive for the first hour until many people show up. He's got a small block of wood and a pocket knife that he's using to whittle. The shavings end up on a small cloth he has laid on the table.

Shortly after you've all sat down to breakfast, Aldern comes down from his room. Seeing you at the table, he comes over and says, "My friends! How are you this fine day? As much as I have enjoyed your company these past couple of days, business calls me away to Magnimar, and I leave this morning. Once you are finished up here in Sandpoint, if you wish, you may call on me at my townhouse in Magnimar. I have sincerely enjoyed meeting you, and hope you shall grace me with the pleasure of your company again." Having made his farewells, Aldern will go speak to Ameiko to settle his bill and have his horse saddled.

Sense Motive DC 15:

The pleasure of your company comment, though directed at all of you, seems to bear an extra dose of feeling towards Isabella.

Talia rolls her eyes once Aldern is gone. "I'd avoid going anywhere alone with him Isabella. That guys getting more and more lovestruck."

Isabella is up and about reasonably early. She sits down by Yasu with a nod and as he shaves off pieces of wood she picks them up, then with strands of twine she turns them into tiny stick figures and animals and starts placing them in little poses on the table as if people going about their daily business.

When Aldern arrives to join the company, she says, "Thank you for all of your graciousness, Lord Aldern. Should our business take us to Magnmar surely we'll take up your offer."

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

Following Aldern's leave-taking, you finish your breakfast and find yourselves with the day ahead of you, and, it would appear, no pressing business. In addition, you can hear the sounds of merchants setting up in the market square. Today must be market day, a day when merchants from outside Sandpoint come to sell wares not normally seen - and purchase products made by the residents of Sandpoint. What shall you do with a free morning?

Once per in-game week, I'm going to have a market day in Sandpoint, which will give you a chance to purchase things that you might not normally be able to find in the town. It's a way to introduce different items that would otherwise be out-of-place and strain credulity to find.

Craft: Bows: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Yasu had tried to make a few small, kids bows for the market day, but in he completely forgot to cover them up from the night before and he discovers the bows are completely useless. Growling with frustration, he sets the warped bows on the stack of firewood for the rusty dragon and goes out to the market as a potential customer, not a seller.

Talia's nose twitches at the interesting aromas coming from the market. "Something smells good." She smiles, clearly getting ready to wander off and try the food stalls.

"Market day so soon after festival day! It's a good opportunity to get back into a normal life after the nastiness of the goblins," says Isabella. "Let's go get some of that fresh bread!" She stands and excuses herself to accompany Talia to the market.

Though early, the citizens of Sandpoint seem to be out in force. There are a plethora of wares to be had, both from locals, traveling merchants and peddlers, and those up from Magnimar. Jewelry, food, furs, curiosities - they say that if it exists, you can find it during the Sandpoint Market Day.

Having acquired some fine pastries from Alma (free of charge for the heroes of Sandpoint - insisting that the reason Talia was always hungry is because she did not eat enough), you find yourself with time and plenty of it.

Does anyone want to look for anything specific? If not, we'll move on to the afternoon.

Okay, moving on.

The morning passes experiencing the sights, sounds, and smells of the market. After an exciting morning, you return to the Rusty Dragon for a light lunch of boar sandwiches - leftovers from the roast the night before. It tastes just as good cold and a day later.

As you finish up, Sheriff Hemlock enters and, seeing you all there, approaches the table and says, "Good day to you all. I'd like you to come with me. A local ranger has news of the goblins, and I'd like you to meet with her and hear what she has to say."

Making sure she has all her armor and weapons on her Talia gets up to follow the Sheriff.

Laufey had avoided the market that morning. Worries about how long her meager savings would last kept her from perusing for anything to tempt her.

Instead she's spent the day cleaning up and repairing her clothe from the hunt, sharpening and oiling her blades, and other types of equipment maintenance. She practiced with her sword for a while in the little courtyard in the read of the Rusty Dragon, and napped extra.

When the sheriff approaches them with his request for a meeting. She nods in the affirmative and gather her things to go.

Isabella arrives with Talia just in time to catch up with the sheriff. She hands warm, fresh rolls out to Yasu, Laufey, and Rasmorn from a basket that she carries, and offers one to the sheriff as well.

"You know I'm always happy to help, Sheriff Hemlock," she says when the sheriff asks for assistance. "Especially in keeping our dear town safe from goblins."

Sheriff Hemlock leads you through town to the mayor's office. Entering the building, you ascend the stairs and are taken into a meeting room. Already there is Mayor Deverin, as well a somewhat ragged looking elven woman dressed in leathers with a bow and quiver on her back and a short blade at her side. She clearly has just come into town, and examines each of you with a quick glance of appraisal.

"For those of you who don't know her, this is Shalelu Andosana, an unofficial member of the town guard," Sheriff Hemlock says, "Shalelu, these are Sandpoint's newest crop of goblinslayers." He introduces each of you by name in turn, although you noticed that Shalelu seems to smirk slightly at the Sheriff's guard comment. The Sheriff goes on to explain, "Shalelu has been a thorn in the side of the local goblin tribes for years, and few know more about them than she does. She told us that Sandpoint isn't the only place to have recent goblin troubles. The goblins are more active all over the region, with an increase in goblin-related raids along the Lost Coast, especially in the dale between the Nettlewood and the Mosswood. Only a day ago, a farm south of the Mosswood was burned. Shalelu happened to be nearby and was able to save those who lived there, although she was unable to save the farm. They are staying with another family on a nearby farm, but it's clear the goblins aren't going away any time soon."

At this point, he gestures to Shalelu, who nods and says, "Belor's told me of your work against the goblins - well done. I've dedicated the last several years of my life to keeping them from causing too much trouble around these parts, but they're tenacious and fecund little runts. Like weeds that bite.

"There are five major goblin tribes in the region, and, traditionally, they're pretty good at keeping each other in line with intertribal squabbles and the like. Yet from what I've been able to piece together, members of all five tribes were involved in the raid on Sandpoint. A fair number of the Mosswood goblins I dealt with yesterday were already pretty beat up, and there was a lot of chatter about the 'longshanks' who killed so many of them. Now that I've met you, it seems obvious from their descriptions who they were talking about. Seems like you've made an impression.

"In any event, the fact that the five tribes are working together disturbs me. Goblin tribes don't get along unless they've got something big planned, and big plans require big bosses. I'm afraid that someone's moved in on the goblins and organized them. And judging by these recent raids, what they're organizing seems like bad news for all of us."

At this point, Sheriff Hemlock chimes back in, saying, "I'll be taking a few of the guardsmen south to Magnimar to see if I can get some additional troops to station here for the next few weeks until we can determine the extent of the goblin threat. While I'm out of town, I've asked Shalelu to poke around the Devil's Platter, Shank's Wood, Brinestump, Mosswood, and other places goblins live to see if she can find out any more information about what's going on. I'd like to ask you to maintain a public presence in town over the next few days. The locals seem to have taken to you, and seeing you around town should help keep them from worrying too much over the next few days."

Yasu nods, glad finally to see Shalelu, though he's also now conflicted because his original reason for seeing her was now invalidated by the fact he actually HAD a job now. Sort of.

"You have my aid." he says resolutely. "I will help keep watch on the town while you're gone."

Laufey nods at what Rasmorn says.

"If you want us to idle in town, we can do it. But goblins seem to be most dangerous when their numbers are large. I think we can hunt them now, when they are not so large groups better. If we wait for them here to come together they will be more difficult. Also they will be the ones choosing the time."

Rasmorn looks surprised at the poke from Isabella. "Why can't we do both? Are these places so far that we can't help poke around some, but use the town as a base of operations so we are still maintaining morale? I don't mind being a mascot for a few days, I just wanted to be clear on expectations."

Talia thinks about her nice room, comfy bed and great food. "Happy to be of help Sheriff." She says cheerfully.

As some of you suggest assisting Shalelu in hunting down the goblins, the Sheriff says, "While it may come to that, right now I'm more concerned with keeping calm in Sandpoint. Word of my leaving for Magnimar will spread, and I don't want people whipping themselves into a panic over my absence. Knowing that you're all here, I think, will have a calming effect on them."

Shalelu chimes in, "Of course, I'm not actually going to be hunting goblins - at least, not as the focus. I'm mainly going to be looking for any further evidence of goblin activity, as well as signs that point towards the big boss who is organizing them. There are a few goblins that are considered heroes by the little rats, but I don't think any one of them would have the pull to bring together all of the tribes."

At this point, Mayor Deverin says, "The truth is, keeping the townspeople calm has far more value to us than hunting goblins right now. There are those in this town who would look to take advantage of a panic, and that would be a net loss for all of us. Once Sheriff Hemlock returns, you may be able to assist Shalelu in scouting out the goblins. Until then, I think you would do the most good by remaining in town with us."

Rasmorn nods his head in agreement. "I'd be more than happy to do that. I rather enjoy Sandpoint, and wouldn't mind extending my stay here in the slightest."

"This is alright. I can remain here."

"Excellent. Hopefully, nothing will happen and I will be able to return quickly, but in case it does take a while, I'm glad to know you're all here to support the town," Sheriff Hemlock says, with a decisive nod. I'm going to be heading out right away. It'll be a hard ride, but I should be able to reach the inn halfway from here to Magnimar by nightfall. I bid you all good day."[/b]

With that, the Sheriff takes his leave of you, bidding farewell to the mayor and Shalelu. Once he's left, Shalelu says, "As long as the mayor doesn't need me, I'd like you all to join me in the Rusty Dragon. You can tell me about your encounter with the goblins and what you've found, and I'll tell you what I can about the goblins in the region."

Laufey stands and walks with the elf and the others. She's happy to do so. Partially she is curious to know more about the goblins. If they are the enemy then she faces one that's largely unknown to her.

Mostly she wants to spend some more time round the elf though. She has rarely seen one before aside from her father, who wasn't quite a normal elf. It would be educational just to watch and listen to her.
