Destiny Shall Not Be Denied: A PC can spend a Harrow Point as an immediate action to force the GM to reroll a d20 roll. She must abide by the new result (although if she has additional Harrow Points remaining, she can use them to force additional rerolls).

Psychic Wrath: A PC with levels in a class that grants bonus spells based on her Charisma score can spend a Harrow Point to increase the power of a spell from that class’s spell list as she casts it. She increases the spell’s DC by 2 and gains a +4 bonus on caster level checks to overcome spell resistance and a +2 bonus on attack rolls for that spell.

"Why not the more the merrier. Though the last "ally" we had ran screaming down the street as soon as the thugs showed up. I trust you won't be doing that. Any objection to us looking around before we go?" Iolana asks the cleric.

Ayako's eye arches at the very chipper priest of the god of loss and pain.

A kindred spirit? Ayako muses as her eyes follow the scrap of cloth. Well as long as you show support for our group I suppose I have no objection. Is there anything of note in this house or can we head out right away?

Sebastian is struck silent by the sight of the meditating elf. Normally the skulls and the candles and the spikes would be off-putting, but with Laori sitting in the middle of it all...

He diverts his attention once he realizes he's been staring. And, much to his chagrin, drooling. But the mention of Zon-Kuthon is enough to snap him out of it. "Wait, the Zon-Kuthon? The Midnight Lord? The Prince of Pain?" Reflexively, Sebastian's hand goes to his sword hilt. "Why should we trust her?!"

"His house was rather sparse when I came along. Feel free to look around if you want. I'll need a few minutes to gather up my things. I can't just leave Jeonia, Boathar, Velaka, Maxtel, Yvos, and Imon behind, now can I? Oh, there's a weird fungus thing in the corner room if you want to check it out. It doesn't seem that safe though, so I wouldn't recommend poking it."

"Psshaw! You nobler than thou heroes. It's not like I'm going around killing people. In fact, I haven't harmed a single person since I arrived in Korvosa. And your friend Salvator Scream isn't any saint either. His art has a lot of themes important to Zon-Kuthon’s faith which is part of the reason I want to talk to him. Zon-Kuthon actually has a lot of redeeming values. I could tell you all about the faith during our travels if you're interested. Now how about we put all this trust stuff behind us and come in for a group hug?" Says the girl is spiked armor. "Friends who flay together, stay together!"

This might lead to interesting things.

I haven't seen any of Salvator's pictures but I assume it involves things like racks and pokers? Well Sebastion, I can understand your hesitation, but if she can refrain from flaying and prying for the duration of our agreement, I suppose we could work together to find the artist.

"I don't mind if you come along. But keep your spiky hugs to yourself please. That's not my cup of tea. At least not if I'm the target. Wrapping the emperor in this chain of yours and hanging him from the ceiling until he spills where to find who we search might be interesting though." Tyrandro replies.
"And I'm no exterminator. If Salvator needs his house cleaned he should call one. As far as I'm concerned we can leave now."

"Alright let's go. I was hoping to find sign of Salvador and our mutual friend. I'll pass on the hug, thanks." I thought followers of Zon-Kuthon would be dark and broody. Not chipper and happy like this elf.

"Oh joy. You won't regret this. Since we are friends now, I can share with you what I found."

Laori pulls out the scrap of cloth she was carrying and hands it to you.

"I found this between the bed and the wall. To be honest, I haven't determined the significance of it but it appears to be from some government official's uniform."

The blood-stained scrap is obviously from a high-ranking Korvosan official, since the city’s coat of arms appears on the fragment.

Knowledge (nobility) DC 15:
You determine the fragment is from the uniform of the seneschal of Castle Korvosa.

Laori then produces a sack and starts filling it with the skulls and other paraphernalia she had laid out on the desk while humming an upbeat tune.

Once ready, you head out towards the "palace".

Sebastion, are you familiar with this coat of arms? She has good hips.

Ayako reassures Sebastion while Laori is skipping ahead. Don't worry, I'll make sure we don't start enjoying punching each other.

"What about strategy? Walz in, look surprised when faced with resistance and finish them up once we're surrounded - or something more sophisticated this time?" Tyrandro asks.

Let ourselves be captured and then set our ultimate plan be set in motion? Could work.

"Anyone want to be invisible to enter the "palace"?"

Tyrandro searches for signs of irony on Ayako's face. "That kind of plan might be to the liking of our new friend, but not mine. But if you want to play the bait, you're welcome."

"Invisibility would work great. I could search for a good spot to pepper them with arrows. And when they come running for me Sebastian could cut those who make it far enough in half." Tyrandro replies to the offer. "At least if no one intends on preaching about redemption first."

"I don't know what you have up your sleeve, but that spell to make us faster would also be appreciated again."

I believe Iolana has a spell that will speed our movements.

"I can help with that as well. Faster and unseen. A good combination"

Laori shrugs when you don't recognize the patch of cloth she is holding. "Oh well. I guess I misinterpreted its significance. I'll hang on to it a little longer anyway."

"I can't do spells like that. But Zon-Kuthon grants me a variety of spells clerics can typically cast. I typically save my magically enhancements for myself but maybe if you ask nicely enough..."

Once ready, you continue east along Wave Street with Laori leading the way towards the Emperor's Palace.

Along the way, Laori turns around to talk to you. "I'm surprised no one has asked me about my skulls." She pulls one out and manipulates the jaw like a puppet and ventriloquists a cute voice. "Aren't you curious? Not even a little bit?"

While walking as well, a man addresses the mostly empty street that you are walking on from a balcony above his bakery. "I demand to know what the queen's going to do about the mob! When is she going to repair the bridges?! How long will the quarantine will persist?!" But the fact that the man does much of his ranting wearing his nightclothes and punctuates his rants with high-pitched giggles certainly undermines his arguments.

"I'll bite. Tell me about your skulls. It will pass the time while we travel to the palace." she glances at the yelling man and shrugs. All good questions.

One by one she takes the skulls out and starts juggling them.

"This one is Jeonia Chirco, a costumer. This one is Boathar Kaay, a toymaker. This one is Velaka Hoon, a writer. This one is Maxtel Erns, a sculptor. This one is Yvos Tanguany, a tattooist. And this last one is Imon Vernell, a poet. I learned about seven artists who's works all incorporates the same unmistakable influence. I've been tracking them down. Unfortunately for me, each one was dead by their own hand by the time I reached them. Salvator Scream is the last one. The Emperor better not kill him before I can get to him. I wouldn't take too kindly to that."

She flips open her sack and the skulls plop back in side in turn.

Sebastian glances at the piece of fabric, but doesn't recognize it immediately. He's so flabbergasted by their sudden befriending of a cleric of Zon-Kuthon that he can barely comprehend what's happening. His protests go ignored, and by the time Iolana starts asking about the skulls, he's thrown up his hands in frustrated surrender. It's not as though they had just risked their lives to defend the city from evil cultists.

Fuming, he follows after them, carefully watching Laori's behind from behind. As they're walking, he finally places the seal on the fabric. "Wait! That scrap of fabric! I remember it now - it's from the Seneschal!"

Ayako looks at the ranting balcony man and sighs. I think the stress of the tragedy has gotten to him. She then gets distracted by the flying skulls. Dead by their own hand? That does not bode well for our wayward artist, we need to get him away from the Emprah as soon as possible.

Who is the Sensechal, Sebastion? If it was found at Scream's house, he might have been taken by the Emprah's thugs as well.

"I meant Iolana. You keep your spells of pain and destruction directed at the emporer and his thugs and if you can keep one or two of them busy then that's good enough." Tyrandro tells.

"After what I've heard about his art killing himself would only be a change of medium to performance art." Tyrandro is no connoisseur of art. But because of his heritage he had to endure enough of it to not be clueless.

Sebastian looks at Ayako as if she's completely lost it. "Seneschal Kalepopolis? The most powerful man in Korvosa beside the Queen herself? He was rumored to have gone into hiding, and she replaced him with that awful Bloatmage. Finding him was Croft's most important mission for us here."

Somehow I don't think it's going to be that easy. We'll see. Iolana smiles at Tyrando's certainty.

Wow, I utterly forgot about the seneschal and thought we were just trying to find Vencarlio. Derp.

Tyrandro considers their numbers and what they have seen of the 'emperor's' troops so far. With surprise on their side and some advantageous terrain they could be able to handle a dozen. Beyond that it will become difficult. Seeing Iolana's not so confident smile he says "The 'emporer's' thugs are no match for us. Their only advantage is in numbers. And if he has indeed a whole army we can always retreat and let them find us in small groups. If we're careful not to walk into a trap and make sure our retreat will not be blocked we should be fine."

For the rest of the way he carefully checks if they come through choking points that might prove problematic for a retreat - or good if held by the group - as well as places where one could jump in if retreating.

He also checks if there are more signs of thugs that they could finish off beforehand.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

That's what you get if you tell the heros more than one thing at a time. I forgot it also that we shall find him. But I remembered who the Seneschal is so I didn't have to ask :)

Tyrandro looks around carefully as you approach.

The streets surrounding the palace are littered with bodies, rubble, and refuse; feral dogs, stirges, drain spiders, and other vermin scuttle around with a bravery not seen in the city before the quarantine. The farther the group ventures into Old Dock and the closer they draw to the palace, the fewer citizens appear behind boarded windows, and the more signs of the emperor’s mob grow. Vandalism, brutalized bodies hung up on display, remnants of fires, and other evidence of public violence are everywhere.

Soon the emperor's palace looms in the distance. The palace consists of six buildings linked together. The mob has inflicted on them a large amount of cosmetic damage in the form of graffiti, scorch marks, and weapon play.

Yet another mob of four thugs approaches you. Tyrandro spots them with plenty of warning to prepare. "Oi, you! The emp'ror's been lookin' fer you. He's heard you've been dispatching his men and he's extended an invitation to his audience chamber to have a word with you. What say you? This'd be easier if it didn't come to violence. We'd rather not have to drag you there."

For all their bravado, they don't look any tougher than any of the others you encountered.

"Here's our invitation if we want it." Iolana murmurs quietly.

Ayako looks as a tough, tattooed drain spider snear at her and realizes just how bad things have gotten. When the group of thugs approaches them, she is relieved at meeting someone normal.

Oh how honored we are to be extended such an invitation. We humbly accept his generosity.

"Yes, please." Tyrandro replies making sure he is hidden behind the others.

With your consent, the thugs escort the "three" of you, Sebastian, Ayako, and Laori to the palace.

When you arrive, one of the thugs yells and announces your arrival. "Git off yer lazy arses men! The emperor's got visitors. Let's give em a warm welcome."

The four thugs stick to you closely and lead you into an entrance in the northeastern building of the complex.

The interior of this home has been gutted. A huge mound of rubble—broken timbers, bits of wall, ruined furniture, and other debris—lies heaped in the center of the room. Rickety wooden stairs wind up to a splintered hole in the wall near the roof above.

They lead you up the stairs and over a rope bridge suspended 15 feet off the ground connecting the building to the next.

What was once an attic has been cleared of all clutter, leaving a large open area under exposed rafters and the roof above. Rope bridges lead to other areas outside of the room to the northeast and southwest, and a flight of stairs descends to a lower floor to the northwest.

Four additional thugs stand guard in this room, leaning casually against the wall and deep in an argument about whether chokers have skeletons or not.

The southwest rope bridge climbs an additional ten feet up turning the bridge into a somewhat unsettling (but still relatively safe) "rope stairway."

The thugs help you up one at a time and into the throne room.

This open-air balcony is shielded from rain and sun by a brightly colored canvas roof that extends up over the area like a half-dome, held in place by a wooden framework. The inside of the canvas has been decorated with scenes of gruesome debauchery; battlefields, executions, torture chambers, and human-eating monsters all vie for space. The balcony contains two major features of note. The first is a high-backed throne that looks like a poor man’s version of the Crimson Throne, a thing of blood-red cushions and silks and spikes. Directly west of the throne stands an intimidating device: a tall guillotine of carved wood and bone, its base depicting grasping demonic feet and the housing of its glittering blade a leering demonic face.

Instead of stopping here, you and lead down a set of stairs to a stage beneath the throne where you can address the emperor from there.

The large, flat roof of this long building has been converted into a strange sort of marshaling yard or game field. Two large square areas have been outlined with what could be blood, while at either end to the west and east, small wooden cages have been set up to the side of a hole in the roof that drops into the upper floor of the building below. Flights of stairs lead up from the roof to a balcony to the north and the gently slanted roof of a building to the south.

The emperor, Pilts Swastel, lazily sits on his throne overlooking the area below.

Pilts is an odious man—a thin Chelaxian cursed from childhood by acne, made worse of late by his recent bout with blood veil. Pilts wears a threadbare and ratty royal costume that gives him the look more of a vagrant king than actual royalty. Despite his unsavory appearance, Pilts has an almost hypnotic speaking voice and a real talent for grandstanding and delivering compelling soliloquies.

The emperor holds court attended by four thugs and his cohort, a deranged gnome named Jabbyr. The tongueless gnome is dressed as a court executioner, stitching up the eyehole in the hood that the one-eyed Jabbyr no longer needs. He serves primarily as the operator for the Tall Knife.

"What you we have here? So you're the ones who've been killing my men. Now I wouldn't be a good emperor if I didn't protect my subjects, would I? What do you have to say for yourselves? What business do you have in Old Korvosa? Give me one good reason why I shouldn't put your heads on the chopping block right now."

Invisible, Iolana and Tyrandro move undetected and can position themselves however they want.

Following the men, Sebastian warily eyes their surroundings as they pass through the self-styled Emperor's palace. Old Korvosa hadn't been in the best of shape before the quarantine, but it used to have dignity. The squalor and dilapidation of everything around them was disheartening, and Queen Ileosa was to blame. But he was in no position to punish her for it, and the Emperor certainly bears some responsibility as well.

Sebastian opens his mouth to make a threatening response to the Emperor, but Ayako cuts him off. He doesn't much like having to play nice, but it seems Ayako is intent on trying diplomacy first. Playing along, he holds his tongue and merely rests a hand on his sword, the threat clear.

"I don't know how you weasels found out that Salvator Scream is here but he is indeed my house guest and he won't be going anywhere soon. However, an audience will not be granted. You had no right to attack my men, even in defense. Within my kingdom, you have no rights. You do as I say or you pay the consequences. You seem like smart people. My army is currently undermanned thanks to your mistakes. Swear loyalty to me and take the soldiers you killed's places and I will forgive your indiscretion. Refuse and your lives are forfeit."
