Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
His gaze drawn inexorably into the abyss of the hag's eyes, Sebastian witnesses visions of his demise. They flash by in an instant that drags on like a lifetime, even as his grip tightens on his sword's hilt. He sees the hag doing unspeakable things to him in an undersea cave, a shark gnawing on his broken body, Sabina raising her sword to strike him down in the name of the Queen.
"You... hold... no... power... over... me!"Gritting his teeth, he breaks the hag's hold over him, thrusting his rapier into her sagging flesh. "I will gut you like I did your shark!"

Sebastian's rapier pierces the hag. The hag seems visibly shaken that Sebastian overcame her powers and from the anger is in voice.
Sebastian's intimidate is successful. The hag is shaken for 2 rounds.
Shark's Will save DC 14 vs. Murderous Command: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Ayako's spell is also successful and the shark rotates towards its master. It will attack her on its next turn.
Lucien said he was back, so I'll give him a little longer to post, and Iolana can take her action for Round 5 since she goes next before the enemies.
Lucien Endrin |
Left with no other choice given his lack of any form of physical protection, and relying on his faith and will to shield him from other forms of dangers, Lucien focuses on attacking the hag, hoping that a few, quick strikes can lead his group to victory before their opponent can damage them too much.
With that plan in mind, Lucien swims forward and lets his greatsword drop the ground, accompanied by the water, as he draws his short sword from his belt and tries to stab the hag in her black heart.

The jigsaw shark swims through the hull bee-lining for the hag. "No, no, no!" the hag screams, "I command you to attack the mage! Argh!" The shark bites down on the surprised hag, tearing away a chunk of flesh. However, immediately afterwards, Ayako's spell fades and it floats in the water confused.
The shark's movement provokes attacks of opportunity from Iolana, Ayako, and Sebastian if you wish to take one.
Sebastian, Lucien, and Ayako are up.
Lucien Endrin |
Dammit!
Lucien is not happy at all with the outcome of his last attack. I should have trained more with the short sword...Come on, Lucien, there must be a way..., the paladin thinks to himself as he watches the hag almost tearing Sebastian apart. I must stop her before she tears him up. I just need...Oh, I believe that's an opening!
A light dancing in his eyes, Lucien seems to spot an opening in the hag defenses and quickly tries to take advantage of it, thrusting forward with his short sword.

Attacking the currently confused shark seems like a bad plan.

He cries out in pain again as Ayako casts her spell. Looking down at his closing wound, it feels as though someone is roughly sewing him back together, trying to cause as much pain as possible in the process.
If she manages to survive until her next attack, Sebastian will use Opportune Parry and Riposte against the hag should the need arise..

Round 5:
Sebastian and Lucien both get into their groove and stab away at the hag. Foul blood fills the water but the creature is much heartier than it looks.
The sea hag is still alive. She had a lot of hit points but is below half at this point.

The dice did not like Yvicca either.
Yvicca continues to stab and claw at Sebastian who is injuring her the most. She might have succeeded once but the fear Sebastian struck in her made the spear waver slightly off-center.
Shark's Bite vs. Lucien's AC 10: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

The summoned shark shakes off its confusion and bites at the hag's opponents again, namely Lucien. Without his armor, Lucien is an easy target and the shark's dagger-like teeth dig deep.
Lucien takes 5 damage.
Sebastian, Lucien, and Ayako are up.
Sebastian Merrin |
Sebastian is beginning to acclimate to the different rhythm of underwater combat. He twists away from the hag's strikes, turning aside her thrusts with his blade. Recognizing the psychological advantage he has over the hag, he continues to push it. "Your foul days are at an end! Surrender, and we might let you live!" He follows up on his threat with another piercing stab.

Lucien Endrin |
Lucien closes his eyes in pain as the shark rips his flesh. Several bubbles flow out of his opened mouth for a moment, while his own blood obfuscates his view.
I MUST hold on!
Resorting to all of his stalwart resolve, trained during years of service in the city guard and hardened from his losses, Lucien shakes his head, regains his determination and finds the courage he needs to keep swimming. Then he attacks with his short sword, trying to slay the hag for good before focusing on the shark.

Sebastian becomes one with the water, moving gracefully, stabbing at the hag, and striking fear into her once again.
The intimidate is successful again. She is shaken for 1 round.
Lucien is not so graceful. He flounders wildly in the water. If you didn't know better, you'd think he was drowning. But somehow still manages to land a light hit against the hag.
Ayako attempts to magically yank the hag's spear away but she hangs on with an iron grip. She is clearly much stronger than her frail appears belies.

Without wasting any more time, Lucien then tries to keep his balance by swimming as best as he can, but his parents never showed him how to swim, and today it is clear. Shaking his head and strongly annoyed by his own swimming ineptitude, Lucien then tries to stab the sea hag with his short sword once again.

Without his armor, Lucien is not so hard to hit: all of his training revolved around avoiding only the most dangerous blows while his armor protected him from all the others. Now, without his trusty guard, Lucien is not able to avoid the hag’s assaults, the water hindering his movements.
Argh. Mph. Oh!
Three times the hag hits him, and three times the paladin closes his eyes in pain but holds on.
Just when he’s about to give up, Lucien feels Ayako’s warm touch on his shoulder. A wave of positive energy goes all the way through him, reminding him of his duties.
I’ve sworn to protect them!
Resorting to all of his determination, Lucien channels more positive energy into his left hand and heals himself up again, before tightening the grip on his short sword and attempting another attack at the hag, hoping to deal the final blow to the vile creature.

Iolana's freezing ray finally shatters the hag's spell resistance and encases its limbs in a numbing slush. The hag acknowledges Iolana for the first time and looks upon her with panic. With her gaze diverted, Lucien finds an opening and runs her through with a powerful thrust of his short sword. The sword pierces her thick skin and erupts out of her back with a gush of blood and innards. The hag lets out a final unearthly scream and then falls silent.

In the room, the hag was in:
Several bent metal bed frames and glass-paned cabinets lie shattered across the floor of the room. The room swirls with a haze of gore, fish heads, and half-eaten eels chumming the circling waters.
Amid the room’s debris, pinned beneath the bent iron leg of a sickbed, lies a thin darkwood coffer.

Lucien looks back at his companions and smiles at them. I’m proud of us! Then, before doing anything else, he swims to the bottom of the room to retrieve his trusty greatsword. In doing so, he feels his strength coming back. Good, I’m recovering. I wonder what that being was…

Abadar, heal her wound, for she's a useful tool for protecting our glorious city. When it's done, he smiles at Iolana and keeps swimming to the captain's quarters. Iolana is so upset by the corpse floating in the water that she notices nothing.
Lucien Endrin |
Lucien searches the captain’s quarters with both caution and patience, knowing that all of their efforts were made to find out more about what happened to the ship. Eventually, his search turns up something interesting. As he searches the corpse, Lucien finds a brass holy symbol of Urgathoa. He shows it to his allies as his eyes widens for the surprise.
“This is the holy symbol of Urgathoa, goddess of disease”, he explains. Then, he seems to be thinking about a deduction for a few moments. “This Queen’s physician had a symbol of the goddess of disease with him…this is much more than I expected to find down here. Perhaps the queen is involved with the plague? If that’s so, it would be very bad for us all and for the city. A ruler should never harm his own subjects, and I honestly can’t imagine why she would do it…”

"I'm thinking about something more than that, Ayako", explains Lucien, "I know that some priests are able to speak with the dead via magic. I believe we can take this corpse with us, in order to allow the priests to perform this service for the city. Ayako, do you know any corpse preservation spell?"

Sebastian's head swirls as the others quickly deduce the Queen's involvement with the plague. He struggled to make heads or tails of it - certainly, it looked incriminating, but what motive could there possibly be? He didn't understand it except to know that they were beginning to get in over their heads. Whatever they did next, Sabina should be informed. But before that, there remained one other part of the ship to search.
Feeling uneasy about the direction their mystery was heading, Sebastian escapes away to check the bow, broken apart from the rest of the ship.

You unwrap the body and drag it along with you to question later as you head towards the bow.
The front portion of the ship broke away and landed awkwardly here, revealing two splintered decks inside. Its bowsprit shattered and decks filled with debris, the vessel bears an ominous moniker along its fire-scarred hull: Direption.
Hiding amid scattered pots, shattered barrels, and overturned bunks, half a dozen foul-tempered silt eels attack as you come too near their new homes.
We can probably just skip this encounter and say you kill or drive off the eels. They are only CR 1's so I don't think we need to waste a few days posting on it. Unless you guys want to.
A search of either of these areas reveals no evidence of food or supplies in the galley or personal goods in the forecastle.
