GM Otha |
Rykaar sets to defend himself while Todd steps in front of Cerryl, knowing the wizard is ill equipped for melee...
The two remaining wild beasts keep coming as one peels off to attack Grey, while the other goes straight for Rykaar...
Bite (Grey): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Grey easily dodges the bite, as the canine's teeth strike only air...
Rykaar's axe barely misses the mastiff as it lunges for the Oracle...
Bite (Rykaar): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
...but he too successfully fends off the attack...

Grey, the Witchwolf |
"A day out of the city and feral hounds... Think they smelt food here?" Grey asks, and then checks the ground for any tracks, man or beast, leading into the tower.
[dice=survival]1d20+3[/dice]
Not as sharp as Lovissa, Grey moves forward completely unconcerned about a structural collapse...
Cerryl Grey |
Well done all, just wondering does anyone have any experience with either tracking or is able to determine if any of the structure is likely to collapse on us?
Stepping off the rubble Cerryl looks around seeing if anything catches his eye in the area before preparing to enter the tower.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Trying to see if anything else is apparent, and what time of day is it or was that listed in an earlier post and I missed it.
Lovissa Halenbane |
"Aha!" Lovissa exclaims. Cleaning her blade she remarks, "Poor beast never stood a chance."
"I can, indeed, Cerryl!"
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Knowledge Engineering: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Knowledge History: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Lovissa points out what she notices to her comrades, and shows everyone the safest way through the rubble. If she thinks it's going to collapse anywhere she warns them immediately and makes sure they all keep away from that area.
GM Otha |
Mid to late afternoon. As for the soundness of the structure, I'll refer you back to my earlier post when you first saw the tower...from the outside, neither Perception checks nor Knowledge (Engineering) checks will tell you more than that post as far as structural integrity goes...
Grey and Lovissa find no tracks and Cerryl sees no other creatures about. You notice the tower appears to be about 80' in height...the outer walls, aside from the collapsed eastern wing, appear amazingly smooth. Lovissa can tell this tower was well designed with superior masonry...
The entry to the southern wing is blocked by rubble...the entry to the northern wing while dark from where you're standing now, looks to be mostly free from rubble...
Lovissa Halenbane |
Lovissa points at the rubble free area leading into the dark, northern wing. "This way. But we'll need light."
Grey, the Witchwolf |
With his light spell making his lucerne hammer glow like a torch on his back, Grey leads the way into the tower.
He unslings and dons his shield, ready to break any ambushes on the steel of his shield and armor. "You guys hit hard, I'll keep anything we find distracted while you kill it"
Lovissa Halenbane |
"A fine a plan as any, Grey!" Lovissa agrees. She heads into the tower confidently with her longsword in hand.
GM Otha |
Grey boldly moves ahead, entering the northern wing...
The northern wing of the tower seems to have escaped the worst effects of the collapse, but rubble still litters the floor and everything is covered in a thick layer of stone dust. Thick cobwebs cloak the ceiling and hang down the walls like gossamer tapestries. A single archway stands open in the southwest wall.
Lurking in a web, near the ceiling, Grey sees a very large spider...at about the same time, the spider sees him...
Spider: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Cerryl: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Rykaar moves swiftly towards Grey, keeping his keenly honed battle axe ready to attack the spider or any other beast that jumps out of the shadows.
Double move towards Grey

Retcon with new starting position.
Rykaar cuts the webbing that has entangled Grey helping him escape the wily spider's clutches.

GM Otha |
Rykaar quickly and easily tears through the webbing constraining Grey, who is now free...the Oracle also sees the oversized spider still lurking in a web near the ceiling...he thinks it's preparing to launch another webshot...

Todd the Toad |
Todd, rapier in hand, leaps into action. Noting where the spider was, he made a beeline to be out of anyone's charge lane and still be in a position to strike the beast should it survive the rest of his companions.
He comes to a stop beside Lovissa.
Double move to current position.
Grey, the Witchwolf |
Grey nods to Rykaar in thanks and turns to rush the room... only to be hit by another blast of web!
As a standard action Grey attempts to break free
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Cerryl Grey |
Cerryl moves forward into the room casting Ray of Frost
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Hope I do not regret not just casting another force missile but figure more fighting in this one based on Todd's remarks so going to try to save a little.
Well guess I get to regret it now can I maybe hope that it misses and hits the web the spider is hanging from and freeze it so it breaks (though that would probably be too lucky)
GM Otha |
Lovissa goes bravely forward, as usual, but uncharacteristically whiffs with her sword. Todd boldly comes up to stand by her side...
Cerryl misses wildly with his magical ray while Grey struggles with the web and remains stuck...

Hey, just noticed the discussion thread says the spider's 10 ft. off the ground, so Lovissa can't reach it. My bad. Sorry. I'll use ranged this round.
Lovissa draws a dagger from her belt and throws it at the spider with a defiant roar!
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
"Your fight is with ME!"
Grey, the Witchwolf |
"Finally free!" Grey screams and bursts into the room, dropping his shield as he moves. "I'll tear open your shell!"
Move action forward 20ft, move action to unlash the shield, free action to drop it.
Grey begins to reach for his long handled hammer, to swat it from the roof soon.
Cerryl Grey |
Since it is not coming down to fight yet will just keep with the frost rays.
Cerryl casts Ray of Frost at the spider expecting a better result this time.
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
While casting Cerryl also attempts to look for an anchor point to possibly hit to try to drop the spider where his companions can reach it.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Todd the Toad |
Todd thought briefly about climbing up there to stab it, but decided that was not a very wise plan. Instead, he readies an action to stab the spider once it comes down from its perch.
Damage: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
One non-lethal it would be.
Cerryl Grey |
Cerryl in an attempt to determine a way to get the spider in reach tries to identify the spider and the properties of the webbing the spider.
Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Hoping this spider is found outside of dungeons and I am trained in this skill now after tweaking my character after the last mission
Craft Alchemy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Attempting to determine if the webs are susceptible to either acid or fire and would like to point out to Todd that I have both flasks available if either would destroy the webbing the spider is hanging from
And terrible rolls obtained.
GM Otha |
Lovissa throws her dagger, barely missing as it gets stuck in the web alongside the spider...
Grey, relieved to be free from the web, reaches for his warhammer and moves forward, getting into position to swat it next round...
Cerryl has more luck with his second ray of frost, striking the beast's massive flank, startling it briefly...
Todd contemplates climbing into the web, but thinks better of it and stands ready in case the creature comes down...

Cerryl, while your rolls were not great, your common sense tells you that the webs should be susceptible to fire...
Cerryl Grey |
I have some alchemist's fire if anyone wants to throw it up into the webs to drive this beast onto even footing. Though may want to move back a little beforehand.
I did not take a move action that last round could I retrieve the flask from my bandolier with the move action and hand to someone else to throw potentially this round? If I could then that would be the plan.
Having said this Cerryl takes a look around to make sure there is enough space to not get caught in the fire if all the webs go up and that the roof/walls aren't wood.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
This maybe something to consider before putting this plan into action.
Rykaar Val'Mor |
Rykaar is not good at throwing items. He will attack with his longspear.
Seeing the spider would be out of his reach, Rykaar takes a 5ft. step forward, drops his greataxe and pulls out his longspear. He then Attacks the spider.
I think I got action economy correct:
5ft. step
Free action: drop greataxe
Move action: draw longspear
Standard action: attack spider
Attack with longspear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage, longspear: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
GM Otha |
Rykaar goes to his longspear and thrusts at the wily arachnid, yet misses, as the spider still manages to avoid all weapons thus far...
Rei sends yet another frost ray its way...
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
...and it avoids that as well...
The spider, still content to stay in its web, fires again at the Pathfinders, this time at Lovissa...
Web Attack vs. Touch AC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Can I get a definition of 'restrained.' It's not a condition. Am I entangled? Grappled? Something else? Just trying to determine my options this round.

Right, but can I act while in the web? Whats the penalty to attack? Is it a full round action to escape?
Lovissa will try to bust out this turn.
Strength Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

to hit; lucerne hammer: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
damage; lucerne hammer: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Cerryl Grey |
Cerryl hefts the Alchemist's fire a couple time thinking whether he wants to throw or not before deciding how his companions are spaced that it is probably not a good idea. Also, since the spider is just spinning webs he decides to cast another Ray of Frost at the spider to continue chipping away at it.
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Todd the Toad |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Todd is going to frown. It's still just sitting in its web. That is one lazy spider. Dropping his rapier, he pulled his shortbow and aimed upwards towards the spider.

The Confirmation: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
GM Otha |
Lovissa fails to bust out of the web, while Grey's hammer strike goes wide of the target...
Cerryl proves accurate with his frost ray this time, rattling the spider a bit...
