Senma Set-en-et |
Senma watches on in abject horror as these new Pathfinders butcher some dogs and then proceed to light a spider on fire. "These are just animals... We probably could have just given some trail rations to the dogs and avoided the spider webs without resorting to mindless killing." Senma offers as Lissaya takes flight, leaving the group.
"Also, we should probably stick together!" bellows the man after the woman flying away atop a bird.
GM NotEspi |
Kaa and Harrisk barely dodge the flames, but still get singed a bit. The explosion echoes through the tower and small rocks and debris descend on you from the structure's topmost level.
Everyone between the tower and the debris on the ground roll a reflex save, please. Companions included. Since it's falling from quite the height, DC 8.
Each of you take 3 damage
From within the room, you hear an odd hissing noise and a loud thud.
Falling damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
As Lyssaya takes flight, the spider falls to the ground, and emerges from the smoke-filled area.

As for other openings, since the wall is collapsed pretty much the entirety of the tower is accessible from the east. The only exception is the topmost level, which seems to be mostly intact, but barely holding together. Especially after the explosion you caused.

Harrisk's Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Goliath's Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
"I'm sorry! I knew the spider was poisonous and thought my arrows weren't going to do that much, so I tried to burn its web and set it on fire. I didn't mean for it to cause a full explosion!" Harrisk says as he chokes back tears and looses an arrow.

Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 I'm not sure if I need to subtract anything from it having cover or not.
Additional Crit Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
Harrisk then directs Goliath to back up.
Lissaya |
did Lissaya see any other openings into the tower? Windows, balconies, etc.?
Lissaya, reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Roc, reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
With the spider too far into the tower to reach, Lissaya just sends an arrow at it and circles around the tower again.

Kaa ignores Senma's comments, as he doesn't understand his concerns. (Kaa is really just as likely to eat a dog or spider if that's what is available)
He swings his large weapon around as he steps back and swings at the spider.

Elutheria steps right up to the spider and swings at it with her hammer, two handed.

With all the explosions, falling rocks, arrows and swings, the spider finally topples over.
Now, when I said you all take 3 damage earlier, I meant only Kaa and Harrisk. Just to get any confusion out of the way.
The debris from the topmost level finally stops falling.
Everyone who failed their DC 8 Reflex takes from falling rocks: 1d6 ⇒ 4
After the smoke clears out, you may enter the spider's nest. Only that it's not much of a nest anymore. Any cobweb that was in the room earlier was cleared by the fire. Of the few things left in the room, a small piece of wood now glows with orange heat in the corner. You can clearly see a carcass of a dog, however. Poor thing must have ran into the spider webbing. The dog still has it's collar, which is studded with lapis lazuli stones and has a silver tag reading "Kita".

You can pretty much access any of the floors except top level. Everything else has a sort of a half-room revealed due to the collapsed wall.
Elutheria |
Elutheria approaches the dog carcass and reads the tag. She then pulls a stone from the rubble and places it upright at the carcass's head. She gets on one knee beside it and bows her head in silence for a moment. Then, she rises, and backs away. "It must have been important to someone."
Senma Set-en-et |
Reflex - DC 8: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Senma looks up and sees the explosion as he deftly steps to the side as falling rocks slam into the ground around him, but he avoids being hit.
"This seems dangerous..." he mutters to himself.
Shrugging as he sees no other option, the man follows his new comrades up the stairs to the next level.
Harrisk Grothurk |
As Goliath and Harrisk ride into the room, Goliath stops and sniffs the dog and lets out a low whimper.
"It's okay buddy, spiders have to eat, too," Harrisk says in a somber tone. He pauses for a moment.
"I'm just glad you didn't get bit," this time in a more upbeat voice as he ruffles Goliath's fur.

"I do like dogs... Is that so wrong?" he says, not expecting an answer.
Harrisk Grothurk |
As they ride up to the doorway, Harrisk turns to Goliath and says "Do you think you can smell if there are any other dogs around here so we know to keep an eye out for them?"
Harrisk uses Animal Focus (Falcon) on Goliath and looks into the room.
Harrisk Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Goliath Smell Perception: 1d20 + 5 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 8 + 4 = 19
Elutheria |
Elutheria follows Harrisk to the door. "Whatever comes, I am prepared to smash it!" She shuffles her warhammer in her hands as she carries it leaned against her shoulder.
GM NotEspi |
Goliath smells something about, but it is definitely not a dog. This smell is much more foul.
Delving deeper into the tower interior, you locate 2 more rooms. Both are filled with stone debris and the occasional smashed furniture.
In the westernmost of the rooms, you also locate a door.
Sorry about the late post. Wasn't able to do anything yesterday.
Ryllkwynne Purebow |
"This fortress has seen its share of destruction" Ryll says gesturing to the smashed furniture.. then she points at the door int he westernmost room...
Harrisk Grothurk |
Harrisk picks up a small chunk of the broken furniture and tosses it in his hand. A look of contemplation forms across his face as he stares at the blocked passage.
After about a minute of this he sighs, "Nah," and scatters the wood amongst the rubble. "Anyone have any ideas of how to clear the stairs?"
Elutheria |
"It could be that something pursued him, so he blocked the path to keep it out. Or perhaps something followed him and blocked the path to keep them both in. Regardless of the reason, I believe it would be wise to thoroughly explore this tower, and that includes whatever is on the other side of this blockage."
Did Lissaya bring her Roc in the tower?
GM NotEspi |
Search of the interior yields no results, but the eastern rooms seem accessible. Either by climbing the wall, or other means of reaching elevated terrain.
The ragged remains of the eastern walls certainly seem like a surface suitable for climbing. Definitely more suitable that the other, relatively intact, tower walls.
Lissaya |
Lissaya just grins. She and her bird leave the tower and take to the air. She circles around the tower, momentarily whooping in delight at the experience of flight, as she often does. She lands on the opening of the second story and lowers a rope for the others to climb up.
she is too proud of her Roc to let anyone else ride it

Ryllkwynne Purebow |
Are we able to climb the rope up?
Senma Set-en-et |
Senma grabs the rope and quickly scales the wall. His hands grimace as the rough surface of the hemp scratches them and he wishes that Lissaya had invested in better rope. "Perhaps the spider's silk would have been better..." he muses aloud.
Take 10 for a 13 to climb the rope.
Lissaya |
Lissaya snorts and rolls her eyes at the complaint.
yeah, it's DC5 to climb a rope braced against a solid, flat surface

Ryllkwynne Purebow |
Ryll will go up the rope with the others.
Kaa Slith |
Kaa checks the northern door for any sounds (Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21), and if he hears nothing, goes to the southern door to do the same (Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14).
If all is quiet (and no one else has a plan), he will open the southern door first.
Kaa Slith |
Kaa puts a finger up to his lips at the northern door, and waves the others to him. He whispers, "Ssssomething growling and sssplashing in water... could be another dog?"
Harrisk Grothurk |
Harrisk will nock an arrow. "I've got your back, Kaa," he whispers.
Readied action: When Kaa opens the door, if something attacks him, Harrisk will shoot.

You can't ready actions outside of combat as there is no initiative order. :( A surprise round is what would be ideal.

Judging from the shelves lining the walls, this darkened room might once have been a storeroom, though its contents have long since succumbed to the passage of time. A crack in the northern wall has apparently let in some rainwater, which has collected in a large puddle on the floor. In the puddle, a dog-sized lizard with two horns eyes you curiously. The creature's scales are wet and judging by the wet footprings, it was playing in the puddles. The creature's green scales crackle with sparks of lightning as it sets its sight on you.
Harrisk Grothurk |
Since the creature isn't immediately attacking, Harrisk lowers his shot and tries to identify what it is they're looking at.
