Apparently, Selmius Foster and his assistant Adolphus had some information that a gnome agent named 'Eylysia' was doing something shady and withholding her findings, even from the same expeditions that Selmius was on with her?"

Ophelia stares off into space silently, as if unconcerned with what the others are saying.


"Oh yes, you're hurt.", Janira realises just now, when it is pointed out. "A quick fix for that..."

The halfling performs a minor magic rite, then reaches for Eldak's wound.

While she botches the spell up a bit, the wound seems to heal completely.

"Oh ... Er - speaking of aspirants...", she takes a moment to reconsider her few next sentences. "We should go to the Starstone Cathedral. Someone is attempting an ascension today. They will likely plummet to their death and become a tomb in that shrine of theirs."

She stands up from her chair, grabs her stuff, and starts walking towards the door.

"But if they actually succeed... Somehow. We would be able to say: 'I was there when so-and-so touched the Stone and sparked their divine essence.' What's his name, even?", she seemingly asks herself, her eyes glued to the ceiling for a moment.

"This sounds amazing! I sure hope that this no-named fellow makes it past the first obstacle with aplomb!" the undine says happily as he eagerly follows Janira to the Cathedral.

As Feza tries to get Janira to stay behind, Senma scowls. "Shh... she is our guide now!" he says in a quiet yell.


"Well I only know of four people who managed to pass it.", Janira continues after trailing off. "Aroden, Norgober, Cayden Cailean, and Iomedae. Others have tried... And now they're in the Shrine of the Failed. Some of them, anyway."

She ponders something briefly, then continues. "Oh, maybe we should go look at the place. Anyone of you saw it? I doubt anyone will be there at this point. With the ascendancy preparation and all. Gonna be nice and quiet. It's a neat place, too. Cold, polished marble in an underground cave and all that. Might as well cool down in this heat. What do you think?"

"Alrighty! Follow me!", Janira almost shouts.

She takes you on a trip through Absalom's Foreign Quarter. You move east, and you can clearly see the Starstone Cathedral towering above most other buildings in the Ascendant Court.

Moments later, you find yourselves in front of something what seems like a mausoleum, although quite larger than the usual thing. As a matter of fact, it is several stories tall. Black-robed acolytes act as the caretakers of the shrine, and one of them informs you that most of the building is not accessible due to preparations for Sir Reinhart's ascendancy attempts at the Cathedral.

As you enter, Janira stays at the door. Apparently, the information the acolyte might provide piqued her interest. She tells you to carry on as she "interviews" the doorman with her journal and pen in hand.

There is only one room open at the time, so you will have to make due.

This monumental chamber stretches eighty feet from end to end, with a ceiling suspended thirty feet from the floor by great pillars. Seven arched passages lead to humble rooms, each of which contains a polished stone altar dedicated to one of the failed aspirants who attempted the Test of the Starstone.

Each of these chambers contains a small stone altar to one of the failed aspirants. Each altar stands upon a raised dais and bears a small brass nameplate identifying the aspirant and the would-be-god’s areas of interest.

The group, apparently fascinated by the shrine, start moving around the hall separately.

Eldak, as in all chambers, the room contains an altar with a nameplate, and a short epitaph. The tomb you investigate belongs to Demuren.

The epitaph reads "Sought the jade idol of ten thousand faces.
Now but another sacrifice to the charau-ka of the Mwangi."

Sadly, none of the altars contain the name "Karina Clamp".

Baied seems meticulous in her search, but does not find anything out of the ordinary.

Ophelia watches the others, still silently sharpening her daggers. When it seems they've come up empty in their searches, she shouts "WIFFLE!" just to see if Fimbrik's password does anything here.


Her words echo in the spacious hall, but there's no other effect to be seen or heard.

You notice strange light patterns on the wall. On top of everything, the polished marble creates a mirror-like reflection of the room. The reflection on the wall shows several vases and minor trinkets on the stone slab covering the grave, but they are not in the room at the moment. The acolytes took them to a different room for polishing and safekeeping. It is an illusion. As you realise this, the wall disappears and reveals a hidden door.

The other thing you notice, is that the nameplate on the tomb can slide to the side. If you do so, you reveal a piece of chalk and a chalkboard with nothing on it.

"Wooooooow!" Senma says as the group masters the crypt's puzzle. "You guys are smart! I never would have come to that conclusion!" he says in praise of everyone gathered.

Without a thought, the undine mindlessly moves through the illusory wall to continue their epic journey!


Senma tries to move through the illusion, but awkwardly hits a stone slab hidden behind it. The illusion was hiding something, no doubt, but there's probably more than one way to stop unwanted guests from discovering what you are after.

Bonking his head into the wall, Senma looks perplexed as he thought they said that wall was fake. "Ouch! You guys lied to me!" he complains as he notices that no one wrote 'wiffle' on the chalkboard.

He moves to the little blackboard and quickly scribbles the passphrase and expects greatness to follow.

With the password written on the chalkboars, the illusion fades and the stone slab behind it retracts into the floor, revealing a cavernous area beyond.

Knowledge Dungeoneering 15 or Spellcraft 15:

The area seems like a natural cave at first, but a few sections indicate that it is in fact, man made. With stone shape spells.

The area is dark when you enter, but you see traces of light on the other end. Coming closer to the source of the light, you notice it is some sort of a library or document storage.

Several desks are arranged along the northern and eastern edges of this small stone alcove. Whereas the stonework leading to this chamber is rough, the walls in the alcove are polished. A single gem rests among the neatly filed papers on the desk, emitting a soft luminescence that brightens the small room.

Most of the text is in Azlanti, further encrypted by an old Society cypher. It would likely take several weeks to sift through and discover the full scope of your findings.

You sneak through the tunnel to the hall. There, you notice 4 humanoids looking through the individual alcoves, and almost whispering:
