Minmaximus nods. "What benefit does this rite provide to you?"
"Oh, I wouldn't know. We don't worship your pantheon. Maybe ask in one of the towns that actively worship Aroden? What I do know that the divine force here fades. In a few decades it might be all gone."
Stopping short, the kitsune turns back to listen to his dissertation.
"So...your pilgrimage has nothing to do with religion. It's due to the purity of the water? Or do you worship the water itself?" he inquires from the tunnel's opening.
"I suppose some gillmen might consider it a religious thing. Not all of them. It's tradition. We've done this for centuries now, but the origin of the custom eludes me."
Taleck |
"I think it would show some respect for this place and the ones who came before us. If those carvings back there," says Taleck as he waves his arm towards the previous area, [/b]"are any indication then there are many ways we can do so. Let me see... Merchant, Shepherd, Soldier..."[/b]
He digs in his pack for a moment before pulling out a torch and lighting it with his flint and steel. He takes the torch and waves it around the city bringing light to the dark areas.
"Soldiers and watchmen shine light in the darkness to make a city a safer place, and with this torch i do the same." he nods to the Gillman hoping that he appreciates his show of respect for this place of pilgrimage.
GM NotEspi |
I find this passable.
Uori shrugs as Taleck does what he does. As long as he does not somehow soil the water, he doesn't seem to mind.
Doesn't pour acid or other interesitng reagents in the pool, etc.
Taleck sheds light on the dark streets of the model of Absalom, and the model's floor briefly responds by luminescence of its own. In a brief moment, all is back to normal.
The gillman's eyes narrow for a moment, and he lets out a quiet "Hm... Interesting."
The soldier aspect grants security to the agents. For the next 24 hours, each of you gains +1 insight bonus to AC if you have taken damage since the start of your last turn.
Minmaximus! |
Min watches Taleck carefully and his eyes widen when the luminescence appears. "Fascinating. Dead god or not, the city delivers."
Min pulls a gold coin from his pouch and lays it in the city, saying, "Peace brings trade and prosperity to the people, and thus do I the same."
GM NotEspi |
As Minmaximus picks one coin up, the ones that remain in the diorama audibly flip to their opposite sides.
Taleck |
"Good job Min. Maybe that was to represent the merchant? Anyone else have any ideas?"

Utara Yuu |
Sounding bored from his location near the next cavern, Utara asks "So, if you all are done praising a dead god...can we continue?"
Pausing a moment to consider Taleck's question, he offers with a chuckle, "If we set it on fire, think that would burn down the real Absolom?"
Turning back towards the second room, he begins making his way to the hidden entrance, where he'll await the others arrival.
GM NotEspi |
Uori returns to his meditation, as the party turns around and head towards the "laboratory" and it's hidden passage. You slowly start moving through the tunnel. Compared to the rest of the cavern, this one is fairly narrow, but you keep moving without bigger problems. Besides the mud, that is. You seem to be walking uphill, and after several hundred feet, you notice a strong source of light at the end of the tunnel. Eagerly, you move forward, and you start noticing something else as well. A familiar voice reciting and taunting something. You emerge during the night, but compared to the darkness of the caves, the full moon seems like the sun itself. The light of the surface world above provides a welcome reprieve from the blue and green fungus of the caverns below, and light illuminates a stream whose water is hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up the mountains. A ledge to the west rises up to the nearby forest canopy.
Just beyond the stream, Janira is locked in combat with the minotaur you have met earlier. She notices you and seems to gather whatever remainder of energy she has, despise her obvious wounds: "You vile beast! I know not what drives your black heart, but I shall not fail in my duty!"

Since the log is wet and mossy, it requires an Acrobatics check to pass. If you wish to cross the stream without using the log, you can either jump over, or try to Swim through. Although the current seems fairly strong due to the recent storm.
Unfortunately, we have to skip the tunnel section due to lack of time. I am leaving this Monday, and won't be back for 2 weeks or so. In the event that we do not finish before I leave, I will get a substitute GM since some of you might want to play these characters in the special (which starts just around the time I get back).
Nattia Radmij |
Nattia follows, quite speechless after all these wonders of faith and magic.
Then Utara speaks about setting the diorama on fire
We shouldn't put it on fire, even to jest! And what if the real Absolom would burn too? That's horrific!
Aurora Rose |
Aurora concentrates for a moment and a shower of sparkles erupts around the minotaur.
Using her glitterdust spell-like ability. Will DC 13 or be blinded for 1 round.
Minmaximus! |
Min stares at the silly fox with disgust. Then he pauses. 'Going down in history as the man who destroyed Absalom? Intriguing." He waits until everyone is out of the room, then conjures a spark of flame and lights a portion of the city model just to see what happens...

It's a stone carving, mostly, so not much. But Ouri eyes Manmaximus with curiosity.
"I find this a bit inappropriate, scion of Xin-Shalast.", he says, still kneeling in the pool.

Inside: Min smiles. "Experimentation, Ouri, oft-times requires a little inappropriateness from time to time. But I now have confirmation of exactly what does and does not occur, do I not?" He bows to the gillman and heads out.
Outside: Min spots the minotaur and nods. He moves 30' closer and casts his favoritest spell ever: a toppling magic missile! Two missiles of force unerringly hit the bull-man!

Taleck takes one of his extracts out and drinks it. He starts to move towards the minotaur and his legs move much faster than his allies and he quickly starts to catch up with Nattia. Expeditious Retreat for +30ft speed.

Brynjar lets out a yell and runs towards the river, attempting to jump across it.

Well, that was anti-climatic. So going by initiative...
Nattia and Ruffin go or the kneecaps, and Ruffin successfully takes a solid bite. The minotaur screams in pain, and attempts to return the favor. Reach AoO vs Ruffin
Greataxe, Broken: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 152d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 4) + 4 = 10
But only chops the ground with his mighty weapon.
After Ruffin's nasty bite, Minmaximus only further disrupts the minotaur's balance, and it ends up on the ground. Brynjar comes in closer for a chop and lands a solid blow as well.
The minotaur lies on the ground, bloodied and clearly in fear for his life.
Janira quickly translates: "It's giving up! Begs for its life!"
She softens the grip on her whip and assumes a more relaxed, but still cautious posture.
Minmaximus! |
Minmaximus makes his way cautiously across the stream, staring down at the prone minotaur. "It asks for mercy? Very well. Bind its wounds and let it be. Mistakes were made. Let us not become too bloodthirsty this early in our careers, eh?" He nods to the others. "Shall we head back to Absalom? I need to see if any of it has burned down inexplicably."
Brynjar Colburn |
In a Rage, Brynjar winds up to strike the killing blow on the minotaur. Hearing Minmaximus' words, he barely holds back from striking the creatures' head, instead turning and unleashing his rage into the nearest tree, burying his axe into it's trunk. As he starts to calm down, he seems exhausted, although it's not evident whether it's from the effort of the blow, or the effort of holding back from striking the enemy before them.
Utara Yuu |
Grinning in Minmaximus' direction, he ponders 'Did he burn the model? Oh that could be interesting'
"Oh, alright. I suppose we can leave it be." Turning towards the halfling, he asks "You need healing? The Prince of Darkness has granted me with one spell today that could help."
Taleck |
"So i ran all the way over here for nothing? Well at least everyone is safe. That's important after all." he looks over to Janira as Utara offers his healing.
"So we actually met a Gillman in there Janira. I took some notes of the things we found, especially about the miniature carved Absolom and the Aroden related carvings. I can share more once we're somewhere a little safer."
