Duncan is up at back conscious...Andrei if you could be just a slight bit more descriptive it would help me.
Duncan Esteros |
Duncan suddenly bolts up and looks around wildly, before grimacing in pain at the most recent wounds he received from the fleeing creature.
"Damn that hurt! What happened? Did we get it?"
He looks around to see if the creature is lying dead on the ground.
Lyle Twigstep |
Lyle shakes his head once, helping Duncan up - or as much as a three foot tall halfling can.
"You and I were the only ones in pursuit, I took the better part of valour," grins Lyle. "It swore about how the Black Spider will have our heads for interfering and took off. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of it."
Andrei Brightblade |
Duncan is up at back conscious...Andrei if you could be just a slight bit more descriptive it would help me.
With Bec out backing up the others Andrei starts a room by room sweep looking for a secure room to hole up in as well as look for supplies and loot. He is being careful to look in chest cupboards etc as they may be staying for a day or two to allow the dwarf to heal.
GM Niles |
Err, I meant like what rooms. Sorry I was less than communicative in that earlier post. I'll chalk it up to being really early(fortheweekend) and not having coffee yet.
I think Room 12 and 13 are the only ones you guys didn't search yet.
While the others bandy about with the Doppelganger outside, Andrei and Grundren set to searching the Cragmaw Castle.
Room 12
This room mirrors room 6 in that it looks very well kept, probably a barracks for Hobgoblins.
Room 13
This room stinks of animal. Gundren points out that a battered wooden chest is on the splintered remains of the second floor.
Andrei Brightblade |
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Andrei greets the others on return.
I've found some more things - some goodly amount of coin and some other things that we can share but in addition to that? I've found that there may be 6 more hobgoblins around, who are just not here right now... going by the state of their barracks - I suggest we may want to camp at some distance in the woods rather than here.
See the discussion notes for loot split ideas
Andrei Brightblade |
Andrei also recovers the Goblin shortbow and its quiver of arrows to make up for the one lost in the goblin caves at the beginning of all this.
Morgran Frostbeard |
Morgran nods in agreement to the suggestion to camp else where for the night. "Sounds good Andrei, but suggest we take a moment 1 hr to rest before pushing on."
a short rest would be very welcome, as a chance to recover
Morgran Frostbeard |
"Before laying down gonna spend a moment checking the two main rooms and the chapel area."
Ritual casting - 10 minutes each casting, no spell slot required/used
Morgran moves to the bunk room where the hobgoblins were quartered, and settles in for a long detailed study of the room, if nothing noticed there he will move on to the chapel area and repeat the process, ending in the king's chamber. If anything is found he will investigate on an individual basis.
Afterwards Morgran takes advantage of Andrei standing watch and soon a snore can be heard from the cleric as he contemplates life :-)
spending 1 HD after rest. HD: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 new total 22/24 hp
Lyle Twigstep |
Lyle thankfully collapses down, and spends a while playing some soothing music while the group recuperates.
Short Rest HD: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Song of Rest: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Everyone gains an additional 2 hp for the short rest.
"All right, I'm feeling like a much happier halfling. Let's finish looking over this hellhole and get out of here."
Andrei Brightblade |
Whats in the Chapel? Did I miss anything in there? I am not sure if you said my sweep covered it
GM Niles |
There was a gold plated censer, chalice and knife. They are worth 120,150 and 60GP respectively if you can find a buyer.
GM Niles |
Nah nothing in there. It was just a big dark room meant to serve as a tough fight with a weapon resistant beastie
Andrei Brightblade |
After the party rests Andrei makes move to gather the party and go and leave to camp in the woods - wary about fighting a band of hobgoblins,
GM Niles |
So you guys are taking a short rest, and then moving into the woods to take a long rest?
Does something murder them during their short rest: 1d20 ⇒ 20 Interesting.
As the party rests they hear noises coming from the main entrance of the Keep.
Andrei Brightblade |
Awww crap you may want to use your potions now, Says Andrei moving to take a look cautiously through the ruins.
GM Niles |
An old man, white beard down to his belt and oaken walking staff in hand, is moving through the ruined Keep's entrance. He is muttering to himself and doesn't notice Andrei's approach.
Andrei Brightblade |
Andrei crouches down, allowing the man to enter the ruins and get closer to his position Will wait for the others to post some before I confront the man... is he a fool, or doesn't know what lives here or is he a collaborator in cahoots with the enemy... waiting for him to get closer before finding out
Lyle Twigstep |
Bahahaha
Lyle lets out the most miserable groan ever committed to record and he hauls himself to his feet.
"Why is my life nothing but an endless parade of bastards? A never ending parade of cow pies from Asmodeus' own infernal herd?"
Lyle takes off to investigate the sound as well, slowing to a crawl as he sneaks through the ruins.
STealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Duncan Esteros |
Duncan also drags himself for a well earned rest.
Wait up Lyle, I will come with you!" he whispers to the bard.
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Will have his potion of healing handy...just in case. I believe he is at 10hp at the moment (as our long rest was interrupted)
Morgran Frostbeard |
Duncan, you could have used a HD after the short rest to recoup some hp.
Morgran moves and take a position close to Andrei as he is less than stealthy, watching the two move closer to the castle.
Counting Lyles 2hp from song of rest, Morgran is at full hp
GM Niles |
An old man walks forward, finally noticing that he is being watched.
Well now! Didn't expect to find you here...was chasing some hobgoblins and here they came. You aren't hobgoblins...are you?
Duncan Esteros |
Duncan steps out of the undergrowth and looks the man over.
"No we are not hobgoblins, but we cleared that castle out of the creatures who were there, and some of them were hobgoblins. I am Duncan, who are you?"
Lyle Twigstep |
Lyle also steps out of the bushes, brushing himself off.
"Not last I checked. We've just done battle with enough of the bastards to last me a while. Name's Lyle. Apologies for skulking around, but again - we've been fighting a lot of goblinoids recently. Can't be too careful."
Lyle eyes the man keenly as he speaks.
Insight: 1d20 ⇒ 17
GM Niles |
Me? the man asks incredulously I'm Reidoth, Druid of the Emerald Enclave. Late of Thundertree....If you aren't hobgoblins, you must be adventurers. Have you ever tangled with a Dragon? Because I'm in need of Dragonslayers or at least Dragonmakeitleavers
Andrei Brightblade |
Well met - I am Andrei of Iomadae. Dragon Slaying experience? I'd say that must be in short supply. Is there a dragon menace in the area? Has it affected the people of the region?
He sheaths his sword.
Is there a safe place around here to rest? We are sorely afflicted and in need of a place to hole up
GM Niles |
Whoops missed Lyles post!
Lyle gets the feeling that while the man is slightly eccentric, he isn't an immediate danger just now. He also believes that the man hasn't said any obvious falsehoods.
Well the big green menace has affected me. I'm people right? Darn thing moved into a tower in Thundertree and won't leave. Make's me right nervous having a dragon in town while I'm staying there.
Lyle Twigstep |
History: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Lyle looks sceptically at the man.
"That's the town that was abandoned after the plague a few decades back? And now there's a dragon in the tower? Although my companions are mighty indeed, a dragon is a tall order. What would our incentive be for this incredible risk? It would have to be a very worthwhile incentive."
Persuasion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
GM Niles |
It isn't abandoned! I live there...from time to time. and then Err. Isn't that what adventurers do? Go around slaying dragons? I guess I could find those hobgoblins and convince them to attack the Dragon... the old man says
Morgran Frostbeard |
"Greetings good druid, Morgran Frostbeard of Highhelm, Cleric of Torag." Morgran states following Andrei's example. "and I would like to introduce our employer, Gundrun Rockseeker of Korvosa." he add by way of greeting and as a subtle reminder the group already has an employer, recently rescued.
GM Niles |
Oh! Dwarves! They hate dragons right! Well. If you want to slay a dragon, or at least annoy one into leaving...come meet me in Thundertree.
The druid, his business done, turns and prepares to leave....
Morgran Frostbeard |
"Perhaps we shall sir perhaps we shall." Morgran say obviously interested but still having a job feels it should be completed before moving to something else......"Gundran, your map wouldn't on an off chance have us pass through Thundertree would it?"
Andrei Brightblade |
Hey Reidoth - could we rest and recover at Thundertree or whereever you are headed? We need somewhere safe to hole up and recover.
GM Niles |
Gundrun responds Nah Lad, Thundertree is the opposite direction. North see, we need to head South for Phandalin
Befire Reidoth the Druid turns into a bird and flies away he says Sure, but mind the masked men, they didn't take kindly to the last set of squatters.
Andrei Brightblade |
How bizarre... worth noting though. Lets get back as from these remaining hobgoblins camp as possible and rest before getting back to Phandalin.
Duncan Esteros |
"Gundrum! I am so happy you are ok. I am sorry I was not able to protect you during the attack, but I am so glad you are ok!"
Duncan runs up to the battered dwarf and applies some first aid to help ease some of his wounds.
Will use healing kit to restore HP to Gundrum
