Good to see you Bec! You want in on Lyle and I and our brawl in terms of getting to know each other a bit before our trip?
Hows the GM? Niles are you still ready to run?
GM Niles |
I'll be posting something in Gameplay today. We will officially begin next Monday but today through the weekend we can use gameplay to establish the characters in the campaign a bit. Thanks everyone who has been posting.
GM Niles |
Ok. 3 of 6 have posted in gameplay.
Before we kick this thing off I'd like to lay down a few ground rules and expectations
1) Daily posting is a requirement. It's actually the most important requirement for my games. I will bot you mercilessly if you fail to post. I'll badger you via PM, and then I'll passive aggressively hint that you should drop out if all else fails.
2) This is an experimental game for me, so I'll make mistakes. I hope that you will forgive them. I also cannot promise that we move past this module...perhaps we will it kinda depends on how this one goes.
3) I'll be using XP...for the first time ever on PBP. Inspiration will be given for RP as well as XP rewards.

I'm taking my family camping this weekend so I might only get 1 post each day. I think I'll have enough cellular broadband to post from my laptop....
Andrei Brightblade |
Cool on all fronts. I think Aku will post later but have you considered asking one of the players from the recruitment thread to make up the numbers if the others don't show?
GM Niles |
The only person who hasn't shown is Fangdragon and he always has a spot at all my games all the time...
Ynara and Bec are the ones I'm waiting for currently in gameplay. Fangdragon won't be joining the group until later.
GM Niles |
For the purposes of PbP, I'm going to try and forecast when you might get advantage or disadvantage and spell those situations out beforehand. However, if you feel like either one "might" apply, go ahead and roll to reflect it. We'll just ignore the extra rolls if the advantage or disadvantage doesn't happen.
GM Niles |
Attention all: I am at a conference from today until Sunday. My posting will be limited to those posts I can make in the evening hours from my laptop.
Daniel Stewart |
Hi there...well I have a background, but depending on what you are looking for, I can change it. I was looking to play a monk with some healing and thievery skills. Not too sure how that fits in with everyone else in the group...but I will start to put the crunch together and post it ASAP for your review!
GM Niles |
Yep 1st level, you can use the default array or roll 4d6 drop lowest 6 times.
I'll tell ya that the party is lacking in the ranged department, so a monk with high dex and throwing stars/javelins would be good!
Andrei Brightblade |
My character is yelling to you now. Hopefully you wake because I don't think I can take this guy on my own and the GM's dice are rolling hot.
Andrei Brightblade |
From a RP perspective I am not sure what we do after we get them to surrender or at least call a truce - I just know one thing. We are very very likely to go down if we try to fight this out.
Bec is one hit from dead, as is Morgran and our latest player seems to be at 1 hp. Getting out alive would be a reward all of its very own.
Andrei Brightblade |
If nothing else a truce will allow Morgran time to case a cure wounds spell on himself and on Bec and then we can see about fighting on.
Morgran Frostbeard |
verification please... I only have the PDF for the rules ....
<Pathfinder>Guidance: +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. It must choose to use the bonus before making the roll to which it applies.
<5e>guidance: the target can roll a d4 and add the number rolled
to one ability check of its choice. It can roll the die before
or after making the ability check. (also notes this as concentration)
if I am reading correctly, in 5e guidance is quite a bit different aside from the 1d4.
1) it only applies to ability checks, not attack rolls
2) the concentration requirement means the caster can't cast another spell with the concentration req until the target has discharged their guidance bonus.
(i.e. I could cast guidance on Duncan, and then cast CLW on Bec; but I can't cast guidance on Duncan and then bless or resistance on anyone else in the group.)

Hey guys,
I have drill this weekend so that means sparser posting, and then only in the evenings from my laptop in the hotel.
Thanks!
GM Niles |
The good news Andrei is that after this fight you will have enough XP to level up! So you will probably have enough HP to last an entire fight....
GM Niles |
It looks like everyone gets something interesting at 2nd level.
Fighter-Extra action once/shortrest
Paladin-Smite!, Fighting Style AND Spells
Bard- Half their prof bonus on ALL nonprof skills, and extra healing during rests
Monk- Ki use (Flurry of Blows is an extra 2 attacks instead of the extra 1 attack) Increased speed
Cleric- Channel Divinity
Seems Fighters and Clerics get the short end of 2nd level...
GM Niles |
Bec, you haven't chosen a feat!
Here are a couple options I've found
You’ve learned to put the weight of a weapon to your advantage, letting its momentum empower your strikes. You gain the following benefits:
• On your turn, when you score a critical hit with a melee weapon or reduce a creature to 0 hit points with one, you can make one melee weapon attack as a bonus action.
• Before you make a melee attack with a heavy weapon that you are proficient with, you can choose to take a -5 penalty to the attack roll. If the attack hits, you add +10 to the attack’s damage.
Prerequisite: Proficiency with heavy armor
You can use your armor to deflect strikes that would kill others. You gain the following benefits:
• Increase your Strength score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
• While you are wearing heavy armor, bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage that you take from non magical weapons is reduced by 3.
There's also a polearm master one that allows you to attack with the butt end of polearms and get opportunity attacks. There is one that lets you do maneuvers...there is one that lets you gain proficiency and +1 to a stat.
