Mornaura |
"No easy way ahead? Shall we explore that other tunnel, then?"
The witch finishes the copied map and bundles up her stuff and the coins.
"Does anyone want to carry that ugly thing? Oh, and Drispeera, didn't you talk to the caged mite at the entrance to the kobold cave? If you can't only speak, but also read their language, could you please take a look at this, um, list?"
Drispeera D'Lith |
It looks do-able to get across. We'd have to climb down one side and up the other. I just didn't want to get too far away from Norn's valiant sword-arm. She flutters her lashes at him, and pointedly turns her back to Edwyn.
Then she joins Mornaura at the map. Is that the kobolds' ugly god's statue? Blcch! Why are we helping them get it back again? Well as long as someone else carries it.
With this map, I have no idea where these locations are, but it looks like they record battles by loot won. She'll translate for the group. Hey, maybe this ring they mention is Svetlana's? If it's not the one we found earlier.
Kaeso the Human Fighter |
Posted last night, but it got eaten by the internets.
After the battle, Kaeso is withdrawn. He returns to the group with Bingo, and stares at the floor for a few minutes. Then, hearing the happy chatter of his companions, he snaps out of it.
"Umm, statue? Oh. Yes, I guess I could carry it. Maybe when bigger fights come, the kobolds might help us. Or at least not hurt us.
He smiles at Edwyn: "Now that we've fought together, we should get a drink together." In a quieter voice: "If you've got a moment, I could use a bit more healing." He points to a few still-bleeding wounds from the Death Tick.
"Anybody got any food?"
Edwyn Cailean |
"Of course Kaeso of course!" He pulls out a small stein and a small container of ale and pours Kaeso a bit, then pours some into his holy symbol (its a mug!) as he drinks from it he channels positive energy.

"If you need another drink let me know."
GM Nel |
Going up and around, the party finds themselves at the other side of the chasm. However, no mites are there to be seen there, or on the way.
The walls of this egg-shaped cavern are obscured by thick tangles of long, pallid roots. To the east, the chamber opens into a wide, root-filled chasm.
A group of mites seem to have been joyously tormenting a captured Sootscale kobold; one of four black-scaled kobolds who have been tied into the roots along the wall. The other three already hang limply by their bonds, dead from the mites' torment. The last kobold sobs and cries from the pain.
Mornaura |
"Oh spirits of the ancients..." the witch mumbles, then hastens to the kobold. Finally finding a reason to use the sickle she had in her hand all the time, she starts cutting the bonds.
"I might need a hand here - and does someone have a healing spell left over? Else I give him my potion."
She adds some words in Draconic in the direction of the kobold.
If noone steps in with another source of healing, she'll instill her potion of cure light wounds into the kobold as soon as he's released.
Edwyn Cailean |
"Yes, bring him here."
Edwyn touches the creature and channels some positive energy.
Channel Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6
"I suspect this was their plan for me as well. Cayden help us destroy these wicked creatures."
GM Nel |
The kobold, now cut down and somewhat healed, opens his eyes and tries to stop its sobbing.
In Common, actually, he says, "You, you all big folk here to help us with the mites!? Oh, thank the old toothed one! The large-headed bully mite came ad took me and my friends from our food-gathering trips! Our shaman, Tartuk, warned us about the mites and their evil! Oh, he was so right. They tortured me for days!"
"They call me Mikmek. I want to take revenge for my friends and kill Grabbles before I head out! Don't try and stop me!"
Drispeera D'Lith |
By all means, if you can find *another* mite named Grabbles, please kill it. We got that big ugly one and his horrible tick. -shudder- We found the statue that your chief asked us to get too. Are there more nasty mites, or anything interesting down that way? She points ahead to the unexplored tunnels.
GM Nel |
"Me don't know. Mites take me and my friends unconscious, and torture us here. But if you have the tribe's statue, then we can go back home! We take statue to chief! He will be pleased with Mikmek and new soft skin friends. Shaman too. He kinda war-hungry but means good for tribe. Say Old Sharptooth statue most important thing for survival of kobold ways."
Mornaura |
"As much as I hate to say it, we better get rid of all the mites we can find. It's the same with parasites - if we leave any alive, they'll come back for more trouble later," the witch states in a low, but steady voice, while trying hard not to look at the dead kobolds.
GM Nel |
In that case!
Kaeso peers down the hole and even without darkvision he regrets peering over the edge. A giant centipede who was coiled inside snaps up and attempts to bite Kaeso...
Kaeso: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Drispeera: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Mornaura: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Bingo: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Norn: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Edwyn: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
BBEG: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
sneak: 1d20 + 0 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 0 + 6 = 17
It's surprise action is to bite:
bite: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 2 = 9
but misses horribly!
Round 1:
Kaeso (see, improved initiative paid off that time!) <--
Bingo
Dris
Edwyn
Centipede
Mornaura
Norn
Although huge, it has the ability to compress and take up the space of a medium creature. It is hanging down the pit, 15' from the edge.
Kaeso the Human Fighter |
Kaeso the Human Fighter wrote:It has 15' reach and it's 15' down the edge of the pit"Damn these bugs!"
Stepping back from the centipede, he swings his hammer, hoping to smash it like, well, a bug.
Warhammer 1d20+7
Damage: 1d8+4
Ah. In that case, I'm going to step back from the edge 20ft and get out my longbow.
Drispeera D'Lith |
I am so tired of bugs! Someday I will be able to afford a whole mansion full of servants, and they will make sure I never see another bug again! Blast it! This is the last charge on my wand.
She drops prone and fires wand of burning hands over the edge down at the creature. 2d4 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4

"Centipedes... why did it have to be Centipedes..."
Edwyn loads a crossbow bolt and fires!
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
damage roll: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Ooh possible crit... confirmation
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
damage roll: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Total of 15 damage it looks like!
"I hate Centipedes!"
Mornaura |
Knowledge nature: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
"A [insert whatever species it is] centipede... very dangerous. I'm glad I didn't go first... I couldn't agree more, Edwyn - godsforsaken vermin!"
Mornaura stays safely away from the chasm, right behind the guys, and casts Light on one of Kaeso's arrow.
"Here, take the glowing one, and make sure to sink it into that beast."
Impromptu tracer ammo, there you go. ^^
I guess should've taken another hex in place of evil eye, stupid mind-affecting-immune stuff...
GM Nel |
I lied, Bingo did hit with his bow. jeez
Twing!!!! The centipede takes Edwyn's bolt straight in his eye!
Mad, it climbs out and takes it's full shape atop the chasm. It takes a bite at bingo, the small, tasty looking morsel.
bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 However, Bingo dodges out of the way easily.
Round 1:

Norn <--
Centipede: -19hp
Drispeera D'Lith |
Did the burning hands hit last time?
On her turn, Dris will fire an acid orb at the creature. Gotta get me some more blasty spells. Too bad Mornie and I both specialize in mind-affecting spells.
Ranged Touch:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Edwyn Cailean |
Edwyn loads another crossbow bolt and fires, "Tomorrow I am definitely praying for some anti-bug spells... "
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage Roll: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

GM Nel |
bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 5) + 7 = 18 of a ferocious bite to Bingo. Bingo, valiantly protecting Mornaura, falls to the floor dropping his swords.
Bingo, you need a fort save as poison hits your veins!
It also tries to swipe with its whip-like tail at Kaeso!
tail: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
But Kaeso's armor is enough to not get whipped.
Round 2:
Kaeso
Bingo (unconscious)
Dris (prone)
Edwyn
Centipede
Mornaura <--
Norn
Centipede: -26 hp
Mornaura |
Alright. Please assume Mornaura said the species name.
The witch takes the rope from her backpack, knots a noose at one end and hands that to Edwyn, then holds out the main part of the rope to the guys.
"Here, hold on to this noose and grab Bingo. Kaeso, Norn, can you grab the rope and help dragging them back once Edwyn got a hold of him?"
That way, Edwyn would only need a move action to get to Bingo and whatever it is to grab him, instead of a move action to get there, a provoking move action to pick him up, and a provoking move action the turn after that to carry him back (maybe even with encumbrance).
Norn Sentor |
I'll serve as bait. Looks like my bow skills are not all I thought them to be!
Norn drops the bow, and runs over to where Bingo is and stands over him. on the way, he draws his Falchion and tries to tumble past it's reach to avoid the aoo.
acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (1) - 3 = -2 which will provoke, then swing.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Kaeso the Human Fighter |
Kaeso moves over to the rope, ready to pull whenever Edwyn gives the shout.
"Have at thee, foul arthropod!" Hoping his shouts will help distract the centipede from Bingo and Edwyn. He aims an arrow directly at the beast's head.
Longbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
If this doesn't work, it's hammering time.
Drispeera D'Lith |
Have I mentioned to all of you yet that I hate giant bugs? Hate 'em! With a frustrated snarl that she doesn't have access to something more helpful, Drispeera will lob another acid blob at the creature.
ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Edwyn Cailean |
Edwyn will help the rest pull Bingo back to where he is then he will cast Cure Light Wounds on him, spending one of his spellslots.
