M Human Arcane Duelist Bard 3, Marshal 1 (HP 17/28 | AC:19| T:14 | FF:15 | CMB: 4 | CMD:18 | Fort:+3 | Ref:+8 | Will:+4| Init:+8 | Perc:+6 | Speed 30)

I can't wait to get started, this is going to be an awesome game!

Can I get an some opinions on something? Reviewing my character, I just noticed that Saving Shield feat and the mythic ability Sudden Block (scroll down to the 4th heading past the Guardian's tier table) are awfully redundant. Should I think about replacing one of them (with GM approval, of course) before gameplay starts?

A few house rules for play...

Aid Another:
Unless there is a specific reason why one person has to be the primary (like one person using Intimidate, with the others hanging back looming), evereybody participating makes the skill check, and the best result becomes primary.

An easy example is opening a stuck door. If 3 people are trying, they all make checks and the best is primary, with everybody else adding +2 if they succeed DC 10. I find it annoying having to declare that the fighter with the +3 Str bonus is primary, he rolls a 2' and the wizard with -1 penalty rolls a 20, and you could have gotten the door open.

Initiative:
We will use blocked initiative. This means PCs roll init individually, but baddies roll as a group, then all PCs who beat the baddies go first, then baddies, then rest of PCs. PCs in each group go in whatever order they post, so less waiting.

Players can resolve combat actions:
I will also post the current HP, AC, and Saves of the baddies for all to see. I trust that intelligent players like you folks can avoid meta-gaming with the info. The advantage to this system is that players don't have to wait for me to chime in with the results of an attack, so if a goblin has 4 HP and an AC of 15, and you hit AC 17 for 8 points, you can narrate in your post how the goblin goes down, feeling free to embellish the act with details, describe the blood spray, etc., and the next player doesn't have to wait for me to come online and tell them that that baddy is down, and they can move on to the next. I also expect that players can roll saving throws for the baddies for any spells,, etc. In a similar vein, I will roll saving throws for PCs when baddies cast spells on them. All of this helps to speed up combat, which can be the biggest detriment to momentum in PBP.

Sleep and spells:
PCs who need to sleep to recover spells don't have to get their eight hours in one uninterrupted chunk. It's fine for them to sleep for four hours, take a each shift, and get the last 4 hours afterwards, still getting all their spells back. If the party is ambushed at night, we'll say that they've recovered the appropriate percentage of spells of each level and other per day class abilities.

There are probably others that will come to mind as we get going.

Feel free to replace anything build-wise. Now's the time. :)

Speaking from my limited personal experience playing mythic, Absorb Blow is an awesome ability. I'd keep the feat, and switch to that ability.

Likewise, with everyone having hard to kill, stabilize may not be the best use of an orison... any thoughts on which orison I should replace it with?

There will be non-mythic NPC allies with you in battle occasionally, so it might still be useful. However, create water, guidance, and spark are always useful.

create water is a divine orison that I never leave home without. way to many uses.

Male Human

Hello guys, glad to be here. Just a heads up: In case any of you want to dot the Gameplay thread but do not want to do so with an OOC post, you can simply make a post with you character alias and delete it. It will still work and dot the thread for you.

How would anyone feel if I didn't choose an avatar for my Athar alias? Would anyone mind and/or care? I can pick the closest I can find - I've browsed through them all and none of them is ideal, but if it bothers anyone then there is one I'm willing to go with.

Male Human

Speaking for myself, I would prefer it if you chose an avatar. It makes it easier to visualise the character, even if it is only an approximation. Not only that, but it also makes it easier, at least in my experience, to pick out that character's posts from among the others'.

F

Woot! I am happy and hello soon to be companions

Plus I will use your avatar as your token on the battle maps.

Max HP: 14; Current HP: 14 (1 nonlethal) | AC: 19 (T 11, FF 18); CMD: 10; F/R/W: +2/+2/+3 | Current Effects: N/A

Alright then.

Male Human

Ooh, I just read Athar's background. Very very nice!

Max HP: 142; Current HP: 45; AC: 17 (T 16, FF 17); CMD: 30; F/R/W: +14/+12/+23|
Buffs:
freedom of movement, resist energy 30, greater heroism, true seeing, improved invisibility
Dire Wolves:
HP: 47/47/47/47; AC: 15/9/14; F/R/W: +9/+5/+2

Nazard here. Please put hit points, AC (all 3), CMD, and saves into the gender and race lines of your profile (creating what's known as the status line). If you don't know how to do that, check out this example profile.

Please also include current statuses or spell effects here, like shaken or mage armour.

I'm just waiting to hear back from three players as to why their characters are at the plaza this morning, and then we can start, so everybody check their inboxes!

Concerning maps and combat, I like to use ditzie, which is an online tabletop that anybody with the link can edit. Its only downsides are that multiple players can attempt to edit the map at the same time as each other (minor problem) and that while you can view the maps from tablets and smart phones, you can't manipulate them. I would use Google docs for this, but my work computer blocks attempts to upload things to Google docs.

How it works is you go to the link, move your character, then hit the enter key. Once your browser has calculated the new url, you copy and paste it into your post as a link.

Map

Give it a try, moving your token from one green box to the other, hit enter, and paste the link for the next person to use. Always use the most recent link.

That's one of the things I was considering. Thanks.

Wow, that's a cool way of doing maps.

Still waiting on one more player to get back to me about his/her arrival and then we're ready to go.

F

Should I not be level 1, did I miss that info some how? And I did submit that part right?

F

map

It is done

Level 1. Is somebody not at level 1?

F

I miss read something. Magus has another higher level version of himself at the bottom and I got mixed up. Because waking up suck.

It doesn't look like you used the link that Dragonflyer posted, which was the most updated. It looks like you used the original link that Nazard posted.

F

Bah! It is done correctly this time.

F

Nazard not sure if you got my email. Since I am planning to go the Legendary Item route and it will be intelligent do I get to pick the personality and control it or are you wanting to do that

Sorry I did get that, and forgot to respond.

What you had suggested concerning its personality is fine.

one more thing I changed my avatar pic to better match Daniel, I couldn't find anything that matched what I was going for though. just swap the hair to black.

HP: should mythic HP or non-mythic HP for now?

F

Cool. When I get to the level in Shadowdancer that lets me summon a shadow can it appear to come from the blade?

@Belltrap: add in the mythic. You'll gain the tier before you even enter combat.
@Alexis: that's fine, too

It would help me out if when folks post in the discussion thread, to use your PC alias. I can't always remember which player has which PC. :)

Game post will go up in the next half hour or so.

By the way, are we using Hero Points?

Thought about it, but with the mythic stuff, we shouldn't need them.

F

Before I leave I had a request. Can I swap the Impossible speed path ability for the Legendary Item path ability? I like the flow of this a little better.

Where do I find mythic HP? I think I looked over that and can't find it.

You want to go to Legendary Item right away? That's fine.

I think I would like to get my legendary Item at MT2 since then it can be gotten through RP. Makes it more memorable for me. :D

They're listed by path, right at the top of the page dedicated to each path. Here

also, I buggered up a bit on my sheet as I was looking over it over several days and forgot precise shot was a -not allowed to swap out- feat haha, gotta change it back to precise shot and take a different mythic power, as the one I took does nothing for me yet.

F

Thank you I will note the changes. For her thoughts on the item it fits better in my mind.

It's so helpful that you're all jumping at the carrot without me even having to produce the stick. On the one hand, players know what they're signing up for, and so should jump at the adventure, but on the other hand, I've seen it time and time again that players insist every possible motivation be justified for why they'd go on the adventure at all.

It's time to go save the village from goblins! Kill goblins!
But my character likes goblins and thinks killing is wrong!
But you knew the adventure would be about killing goblins. Why did you design a character that only wants to protect them?
It's called "role-playing"! Ever heard of it?
Eye roll...

Of course, the mythic goosing here certainly helps encourage everybody to hop on board. More clarification is coming, this is still all just the introduction to the campaign.

For some reason, I'm getting a weird error when I try to click on Daniel's ditzie map. I can click on map links that other people haven't edited (like one I pre-built before we started the game).

Did anybody add an image file to the map somehow? I've never seen this error before. It's requiring me to log in, but won't let me. Log ins shouldn't be required just to view a map.

I was getting a login prompt yesterday, also, for any of the map links in this thread.

The map must have been corrupted. Hopefully that's not going to be a regular thing. I've never seen that before and have used this for years.

That's when you reply, "Well, I hope you figure out your PC's motivation soon!", and then have a goblin attack him.
