Hey all. Sounds like we need a few people to make some hard choices because half of us keep saying we'll play anything other people don't want to. (That includes me; I thought of a goblin witch, but I'm certainly not wedded to it. He/she's just the bare rudiments of an idea at the moment.)

So far we've got:
Filios: Dwarven paladin
Cuchulainn (Kehlysch): ?? Witchhunter inquisitor
Nacona (Bendrauss): Human Swordlord

So we probably should be good with fighter types. Could probably use a rogue/skill character and an arcane caster still. Gregor, Moon, any thoughts? I'm still happy to play any role the group needs.

I would love to take the human (possibly half-elf) witchfinder inquisitor out for a spin. If no one objects, or feels forced into an unwanted role, I'll stake a claim to it.

In doing so, I don't want to put the group in a position of not having a key role filled however. If y'all need me to switch, don't hesitate to ask.

I'm looking at an alchemist or a wizard...I might even get crazy and play an odd race for whatever class I choose (ie Dwarf alchemist).

If the new race guide is available and a Hobgoblin would be considered, I was thinking of a character that starts as a level 1 hobgoblin Barbarian who just left his tribe after realizing he loved nature and wanted to be a Vegetarian Druid instead of an angry barbarian. (All further levels would be as Druid) Disgusted by his new perspective in life, the tribe has banished him, thus the wandering, aspiring druid that isn't, yet.

I'm totally cool with just playing a core race with the same concept if that is easier to manage.

Holy crap; ashamed to admit that I hadn't seen that yet. Indeed; I'm all for it. Have fun with these characters; perhaps you even have room in your pocket for Motteditor's goblin. Please, make whatever you like; we have a trusted group of players here. If there were a lot of new players involved, I'd have to think twice.

That being said; anyone ever played a goblin cavalier? Trying to wrap my head about the concept and failing.

I have no problem with you playing a witchfinder.

Sounds like I may go for the rogue/skill roll, since doesn't sound like that's taken if Deane's going for arcane and Bombadil for druid. Will try to think of a character tonight, but probably *won't* go for goblin as a rogue, since that doesn't quite fit what I was thinking for that character. (Also, I tend to be a bit of a stick in the mud and only like one non-standard race in a party, so if someone else wants to do a non-standard, I'm more likely to go somewhere else. Then again, there is this shiny new Race guide, so no clue yet.)

(A Goblin Cavalier on a Riding Spider sounds very Warhammerish, would love to see it in action)

(Louly, I could tun the druid tilt into a bard tilt and leave you free for the witch class, I like the idea of the witch hunter and witch in the same party)

Bombadil, we seem to be writing at the same time. I'm easy either way -- rogues are historically my favorite class; which ironically leads me to trying other things to flex my gaming muscles, but I haven't played a rogue in a LONG time, so don't mind doing so again (and may consider ninja, even, because who doesn't love a fricking ninja).

I was liking the vegetarian druid/former barbarian, so if rogue/frickin' ninja is sounding good for you and it's your favorite class then have at it.

(gotta say the rogue class is fun to play, I've been having a blast with Bosun Moon. The hero-in-spite-of-himself is my favorite archetype.)

So what are the build parameers? Point-buy? Traits, etc? May as well get to stattin'.

20-point buy, average gold, two traits. I don't see any campaign traits in this one, but take note of the animal companions, familiars, and feats specific to Varisia. Feel free to take any of those for flavor; they're in the player's guide.

anyone correct me if I'm wrong here, I think Rise of the Runelords had Upbringing Feats that were used prior to traits. HeroLab shows these as upbringing feats:

City Born - Korvosa
City Born - Magnimar
City Born - Riddleport

Looks right to me, though I also would accept the Varisian Tattoo feat; note that you need spell focus first.

I think the new Player's Guide has traits, doesn't it?

Aha, right. The anniversary edition does. Makes sense, though it would be nice if they'd move that one to the top of the list or put a note saying that there's a new player's guide. Oh well...yes, it has campaign traits within it.

Hmm. Still working on this, but I think I may go with goblin after all, if we can figure out a way for it to work. (I was thinking when he/she was going to be a witch that I'd get the disguise hex to make work initially.)

I'm thinking basically a little guy with a BIG Napoleonic complex. He (probably he, now that he won't be a witch, though may still be female) thinks of himself as a great goblin. Unfortunately, when he tried to make this point in his tribe and take over, he was summarily kicked out. He fled to hide in Sandpoint, which he now sees as the future capital of his goblin kingdom. He basically thinks he's FAR more impressive than he really is, and would probably spend a good chunk of time bossing the rest of the party around and expecting them to listen to him.

If you all think that won't work for the campaign, or would cause major conflicts with the other characters, I'll probably instead go human rogue/monk, though I'm still trying to come up with a character that could work with that who would be fun, as opposed to someone a bit more dour/grim. (I was thinking an orphan who fled the Sisters of the Golden Erinyes in Isger, but feel like the character I'm coming up with is a bit too close to Louly for me to want to do.)

Great stuff so far; may a bit stuffy with you lawful do-gooders, but gobbos beware!

I'd prefer that you pick a campaign trait, but I would allow you to go another way on one condition. You, as PC's have to have a reason to be attending the Swallowtail Festival, during which the Town of Sandpoint plans to reveal their new church, a replacement for one that burned down due to tragedy. If you've got a good reason to be there, feel free to pick a trait outside of the campaign traits.

Gobbos beware? It would be wrong of those do-gooders to treat us with animosity simply because of our race, goblins are humanoids too!

I'm actually probably not going to go with my goblin, on third or fourth though. I think he probably just wouldn't quite fit with the campaign. Still working on coming up with another idea I like, though it'll probably be a rogue/monk.

@motteditor: Thank Heavens! I was only would make no difference to me at all if you stuck with the goblin, but you are correct that it may not be the best fit for this AP.

@Duru and GM Nyr: Again, I wass only joking in character. Duru is actually very interesting as a PC. I am looking forward to this group.


@Dorin, nor worries and don't stop the dwarven loathing, the interaction between the dour dwarf with a code of good and the hippie hobgoblin with shifting morals should be fun.
