So I'm going to go play a Starfinder Society game with my local lodge in a few hours. Finally sat down this morning and worked out a character to play; hopefully it'll work out okay once the game gets rolling.

I actually did play one Starfinder Society scenario at DieCon last June and had a good time but it's pretty challenging to try and juggle my usual Pathfinder stuff as well as learn Starfinder and try to keep up with the 2ed playtest stuff. For the time being, I think I'll keep Starfinder as the system that I only play. GMing efforts will continue to be funneled into PF1st & PF2nd, at least for the time being.

When it comes down to it, I guess pure fantasy interests me more than sci-fi or even science fantasy.
(Posting this here instead of Gameplay where we're having our discussion re: weight loss.)

I just checked AoN and there doesn't appear to be a PFS legal trait that adds +1 to effective druid level for an animal companion... so you'd either end up spending a feat for boon companion anyways or being a level behind (which, for the former, would be true for the cleric or inquisitor anyways, and I think you can retrain in PFS, right? If so, a druid could start out a level behind, take boon companion @3rd and at druid 4 retrain the animal companion bond to the domain bond with the animal domain which would still have a companion but also get domain spell slots).

Also, while on AoN I discovered the House of Green Mother's Pupil trait... it counts as iron will for the purpose of qualifying for the familiar bond feat. I do like the havocker witch option but with that trait and familiar bond you could play literally any class and start with a familiar. So, you could look at a straight kineticist, or a barbarian with a mauler familiar, or like hundreds of other things.

PFS- I’m enjoying it. Original Sylvak didn’t get much chance to shine because other people had a bunch on knowledge skills too and we fought a bunch of stuff that his hexes and control spells didn’t work on, but it’s still been fun and I think Sylvak2.0 will have more to contribute.
A gnome would be thematic with the sylvan bloodline, I suggested a halfling mostly because Dex&Cha>Con&Cha for a spellslinger/sorcerer.
Spellslinger not only never limits its gun stuff to just its own spells (which is why you can use sorcerer casting with it), it actually never limits its gun stuff to arcane spells at all (despite ability names like 'arcane gun')!

If you want to go with a dwarven spellslinger, I'd give some serious thought a divine caster.

Druids have a fair number of spells that could be cast through the gun (plus some decent control spells), would still get an animal companion right away (and I think maybe there might be a trait that could make up the 1 level behind it would be, if its PFS legal?), and could use wildshape later for some utility (or to melee when you're not shooting).

A cleric could get a companion eventually with the animal domain and has some spells they could shoot; you could also look at archetypes like crusader that give you extra combat feats. Inquisitor actually doesn't have as many spells they could shoot as I thought they would, but they do have some and their self-buffs (like judgement and bane) would be pretty useful for general gun use.
