So... We have actually started on the module now. I have not read the module description, so I have no clue what we are up against (aside from the fey theme on the comer).
I hope no one is going to feel offended at Asharii's schemes... After all she is no angel.

Have we content rated this game? How risque are we willing to go? I am up for however far the group wants to go within the boundaries of the forum rules.

I am not concerned about pushing the boundaries. I suspect Jokhas will stick to creepily toeing the line with what he says without doing anything questionably overt.

I am virtually un-offendable, so have fun. Valorian probably will not be very attentive nor responsive to any subtleties. He is a "in-your-face" kinda guy, lacking social skills. Should Asharii continue to dress provocatively he will continue to look. :-)
Brian Darnell |
Brian - feel free to take things as far as you'd like. I will certainly not be offended but I might take notes. ;-)
I didn't have to ask you. I still have nightmares about your midnight mauler game. Eric, you have succeeded in scarring me for life.

Quick vote: How are we feeling? Bored? Having fun? How does being done with the social niceties by Friday sound? Or, are people having fun with this still and want to keep going with the social stuff, then we can keep going though Monday and onwards. Give me an idea of when you would like to move on to more action oriented things.
Caepio Alazario |
Friday is a good time for moving on. Going down his checklist, Jokhas needs only to have a bit more fun with the box social and give a rousing wedding toast.
A long-shot goal is to convince the priestess of Shelyn that "Oh no! There's a pair of star-crossed lovers across the river, and they need to be married immediately before their warring families throw them to the wolves! Quick, you go find and marry them, and I'll handle the ceremonies here until you get back!"

Having fun.
I would like more time at the wedding before things move on.
I want to see if Oggie can get a horseshoe tournament off the ground. :-D
Brian Darnell |
Having fun. Liking the wedding and I'm looking forward to see what comes. Are we pushing your improv envelope? I honestly have no idea where this mod is going so I hope we aren't going off the rails too bad. Not being able to read the table goes both ways.

Haha, I'm not sure that's possible :) Actually, I think that a PbP plays to my greatest strengths and masks my greatest weaknesses as a GM. It lets me really dig into description, run multiple NPC interactions at once, and be a storyteller. It also gives me time to do combat math and make combat rulings (my weakness IMO) I'd be happy to see where the horseshoe tournament goes before moving on, Eric :) I just want to make sure that everyone is doing okay and isn't terribly bored.

So, this is what happens when you watch Burn Notice (an action spy TV show), and read the PbP right before going to bed. Nani's dream from last night:
So, I'm at the wedding in Bellis ( physically witnessing the events) and everything is going swimmingly. The Box Social is underway when suddenly an argument breaks out. At this point, Oggie and Drezi pull out guns and start firing on the wedding guests indiscriminately.
Me: wait whoa, hold on a minute! Oggie, you're not even here! Did you just teleport from the horseshoe pit? Come on now guys, these are like level 2 commoners, I don't think this is okay.
Oggie and Drezi: oh. Oh oops, sorry. We are in another PbP that has a wild west theme, and it was totally a mispost.
Me: Uh, okay. I thought neither of you had been in a PbP before? I'm just going to delete that post if you don't mind, because I would really like to move on with the storyline...
Guy in a ten gallon hat: Yee-haw! Looks like mah play by post is merging with yours. I'm the GM for the other game, and sorry but we're taking this here campaign over.
Chaos breaks loose. Horses, tumbleweeds, and wild west music sweeps in, with screaming and panicking wedding guests on the run.
Me: Arrrrgh! This isn't how the module goes!
(embellished slightly for effect. But only slightly :-P)

Thank you for sharing Nani. This is one of the most amazing things I have read all week.

Throw anything character would be really cool in a situation like this.
Throw anything, quick draw, point blank shot, price shot, rapid shot, Far shot, Precise shot, dodge, mobility, and shot on the run any more?
Horseshoe Master (Combat)
Prerequisites:Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Throw Anything, Weapon Focus (Horseshoes)Benefit:As a full round action, you can give up your regular attacks and instead throw three horseshoes at your highest base attack bonus. If you score a ringer on your turn, you may proclaim your victory and make a free intimidate check against your opponent, using the highest attack roll as the check result. If you score two ringers you receive a +2 bonus to this check and if you score three ringers you receive a +4 bonus to this check.
Special:If you have Dazzling Display, you may use this intimidate check against all opponent within 30 feat.

I can see a character taking this. I can also envision a sheaf of sharpened +1 returning vorpal horseshoes. Scoring a ringer to watch the opponent's head fall off seems like a memorable fight.
Kyle and I made pumpkin bread this week. If you have a Trader’s Joe’s near you, I can’t recommend their pumpkin bread mix enough, it is AMAZING.
Yes, but was it made with GNOMES?

I am so picturing the old bad martial arts movie 'Flying Guillotine"!

Probably not since, even though I play one, I see all gnomes as clowns.
....and even canibals don't eat clowns because they taste funny. :-P

a could imagine a gnome tasting gnome for a new experience.

How cool! Thanks for posting here Neil. We love the module so far, can't wait to see what happens!
I've known Nani since PaizoCon 2009. So, I've been following along since the beginning of this little PbP game. But, ummm...no pressure or anything. ;-)
I'm glad you're enjoying the adventure. By the look of things, you're about to start enjoying it a whole lot less. Good luck with those bees. :->

Dang it! I really have to not look at the ooc forum first. Bees would have been better as a surprise.
Nani Z. Obringer |
Sorry guys there is going to be a bit of a delay in resolving the first round of combat. We are having game days both Saturday and Sunday. Many apologies. If you haven't done so already you can post your actions for the first round, since so far only a few people are acting in the surprise round.
The Grandfather |
It appears the bees are no longer a threat. Jokhas and Drezi will take care of them I expect, so I decided to have Asharii get ready for any new threads.
(and having her rip off her skirts was fun as well!)
Nani; do you expect to resolve one round each day?
FYI: Christmas eve is the big celebration in Denmark, so I might not be able to check in Friday night and Saturday (US time).
Nani Z. Obringer |
Erk, looks like I had something come up and I won't have time to post tonight, also the photoshop file is totally at work. Very sorry everyone :( I will be posting first thing tomorrow.
Diego, I have been posting rounds as soon as everyone responds. I haven't really come up with any formal rule, since we kind have deviated from the Monday, Wednesday Friday thing. I was thinking if everyone but one person posts for like 24 hours, then the missing person would just delay. If anyone has any better suggestions for how to do things, I am perfectly open.
I suspect that many of us will be celebrating Christmas eve and Christmas, so i suspect some rounds will take a little longer than a day, and I think that is just fine :)
Caepio Alazario |
When we the children were still young, there was a tradition of listening to music, reading a few Christmas-related stories aloud, and indulging my parents by telling a camera what we hoped Santa would bring for us that night.
Now, we celebrate Christmas Eve by cooking seafood. It's the one time of year that we eat crab, and we serve it with salmon, rice, and a green salad. This is more how the evening has evolved for us, not even a regional tradition.
Perhaps future prospects of marriage and children will see things revert to the "old ways," but that seems a ways off for my siblings and me.
The Grandfather |
I think my family probably holds a very typicaly Danish Christmas Eve celebration. In the afternoon we go to a Christmas mass (like most Danes maybe the only church visit the entire year).
Them it is back home to watch the Disney Christmas Show with the kids. There will be a lot of different cookies and candy to endulge in and for the grown ups ther might be Gløg, which is red wine and snaps cooked with almonds, raisins, cloves, cinamon and other spices (I hate that stuff).
For diner we eat roast pork (other families prefer roast duck and some families cannot decide and serve both) with side dishes of boiled red cabbage, boiled patatoes and caramelized patatoes and lots of gravy. For desert the traditional dish is ris a la mande which is a cold desert made of rice and vanilla sticks boiled in milk. When it has cooled sugar and chopped almonds are added and it is gently mixed with whipped cream. The desert is served with warm cherry sauce.
Eating ris a la mande comes with a tradition too. The cook will have left a whole almond in the bowl and the guest who gets the almond is given a particular price set aside for this purpose.
After diner we sing Danish Chritmas songs and salms while we walk around the Christmas tree holding hands.
When done singing we pass around and open gifts. The rest of the evening we try to relax and not have a heart attack from overeating (every year 50-100 people are hospitalized on Christmas Eve and Christmas lunches the following days with symptoms of overeating).
Nani O. Pratt |
In America we just overeat all of the time. :-P
Families serve all kinds of different foods on Christmas. My family always eats turkey, because we are huge turkey fans. Traditional accompaniments to turkey are cranberry sauce (store bought cranberry sauce is sort of like jello, but my parents make their own which is more like...uh...pie filling?). Also we have mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, baked sweet potatoes (my favorite) and gravy. A lot of other families eat ham or roast beef.
Traditional drinks and deserts include eggnog, which is sort of a thick, heavy cream and egg based drink with nutmeg and other spices in it, along with whiskey or bourbon. I love the kind without alcohol in it. There is also fruitcake, which I don't even know how to describe. It's a kind of heavy cake filled with nuts and candied fruit and stuff. Personally, I think it's truly disgusting.
As for Christmas eve, my family is really weird and obsessed with food. We have a tendency to do an insane hors d'oeuvres spread (cheese of all kinds, salami, olives, crackers, vegetables, pate, smoked fish, etc etc) starting from about 2 in the afternoon and then just eat for like 6 hours.

Nani forgot to mention it's second purpose. An ornament for the table for the next year. How it doesn't grow mold etc. is completely beyond me.

Certainly one of the best and most evocative lines written so far in this PbP, which given the competition says a lot.
I've had a few good fruitcakes, and I understand that most fruitcakes are meant to be revitalized by soaking them in brandy or rum. If anything, that makes them sound more like alchemical zombies.
