Alright, maybe we should talk about our characters and how they know each other. It doesn't quite seem right to me that a bunch of people suddenly get together at the last minute and are then expected to go off on an adventure (unless they are Pathfinders or something official, of course). We're in Heldren and we all have some reason to be there, so maybe we all met on the road going in, been traveling together to get there for a while, something like that?

Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. I made a small first post that would let other people jump into if travelling together.

I figured we didn't know all of the information in the setup straight away, but hopefully the town rumor mill fills us in quickly. :)

We can have it so you and I met on your trip to Heldren. My character is a caravan guard and somewhat of a glory (and gold) seeker, so they could meet readily that way.

Indeed we have an inquisitor with 6skills/level, but the rest of us are less. I was considering another class but couldn't find some my background would support. It's gonna be a fun team we are melee heavy and lacking skills / trapfinder.

I'll have a game play post up when I get in at work, I hate writing long posts on the phone.


Halfling Hunter 1

Alright, here's Ouachitonian, presenting Liam, Ifrit sorcerer. GM, if I may, I'd like to use an archetype from beyond the main rulebooks:

The Tattooed Sorcerer Archetype from Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Magic. It's most closely associated with Varisians, which the character isn't, but tattoos aren't exactly exclusive to any one culture. No reason some Taldans couldn't have come up with magic tattoos on their own.

The character is, conceptually, focused on the classic idea of "Burn the witch!" (not that he really knows about witches yet.) I'll pick up some other spells along the way, of course, but he loves him some fire.

Clarify: Definitely NOT a resident of Heldran, sorry. A resident of Irrisen, used to living closer to the icy lands and thus might be interested in helping resolve the issues.

well your quite a bit over budget on items. your aloud to have max your classes GP at start aswell as max health. your bow alone takes your whole budget

Reading up on everything missed so far, and then will find a place to insert myself. Honestly, as a surgeon/medic it's highly likely he might already be working at the apothecary, since you all seem to be just arriving there.

@Rorgar - You could be coming into the apothecary as well having been hired by another councilor or whatever from Heldren.

@Vadim - Yeah, that seems the most logical place for you to pop in at.


Okay I'm going to ask this before we get too far into the campaign how would you like me to handle the combat situation should that be arriving here soon? What are your guyses ideas on how I should handle it? Any suggestions from other GMs out there

I haven't gmed a pbp before, but I've seen a few different runs.
Most games I played in use a google doc where we can move around like on a flip map. Others like to do it all in "theater mode" allowing us to explain what we fo and the gm to tell the tale of the battle.


How exactly do you use Google Docs to do that cuz I have all the Maps

Haven't been a part of many, or for very long myself. Most of my opinions are likely less educated compared to others'-- but firstly the GM making the initiative checks starts things off on the best foot. Getting things into order really quickly.

Being controlled logically by the GM when inactive and being waited upon seems to speed things up from what I've seen, and it wouldn't hurt to have default/typical actions a character might take for various situations.

As much as i dislike monsters grouping up on a single turn (due to compounded danger of such things), I saw your profile talking about how all enemies go at once and admit that's an effective way to keep things a bit faster.

I prefer having a map in a google-doc of some sort as well, that people can all move themselves around in just so people have a better idea of what's going on, at least with more complex situations. To do so, the GM i can think basically uses Google Slides to create a new slide for each new combat situation, copies tokens to it, then adjusts token size to squares-- group editing of sheet allows you to move things around.

Typically, you post the link to the google map (can be done at the top margin or just in chat) and then make the document editable by anyone. That way we can move our token etc as needed. The avatar pics for each PC make a good token once re-sized to fit your map. You can use black areas to cover parts of the map that are unexplored etc.

Also, typically, you roll initiative for the entire group (speeds things up) and then list the initiatives in turn order, keeping that list current as people delay, ready etc and letting everyone know who goes next. You can default to actions, or wait for people to post depending on the post-rate.

I have GM'ed on the board substantially in the past (though none currently) so can help as much as you'd like.

Open Google Docs, then click on "File" then "New"

There you should see "Drawing"

Click there. Then you click "Insert" and "Image"

Select the image you wish to upload

Once uploaded, click "Share" and name your file. Then, on the next pop-up, select "Advanced", look at "Who Has Access" and change it over to "On - Anyone With The Link" followed by "Save"

Copy the link and then paste it in the Campaign Info tab.
