No problem Niles. Thanks for the update. You shouldn't miss much. I probably won't get to post more than the first round before tonight either.

Ok, finally back in business. Con crud had me laid out in bed most of the day yesterday.

Well on the "Black slender swords" part of that description, there's good news and bad news.

Good news: GM Mason may be really freakin' generous with the loot.

Bad news: GM Mason may be throwing adamantine bladed thugs at us, which bypasses my DR and just made everything a whole lot worse. :P

Haha! They are not adamantine! Just flavor text! Now I wish I had thought of that! Wait...it still may not be too late...

Votes are in! Should they survive this encounter...Tierney and Adir will get a roll on the d10 of fortune treasure chart! Thanks for voting. I will continue "contests" like this in the future should you guys enjoy them.

I'll be on between 7-11ish EST US tonight to do some posting. I'll complete 1st round actions right after work.

I got some crazy high rolls that round. Good thing they had to waste their 20s on reflex saves for the ship.

Indeed, that could have been rough. Just waiting to see what Servitor does before acting, especially after Bonal's message from earlier.

It is nice to see a DM who does not pull punches with every encounter. I prefer this to being mollycoddled regularly. If Tierney dies, I will roll up someone new.

Thanks. I like intelligent enemies. That flank attack scared me! If someone dies and has to create a new character, I will do an intro RPing deal like I did to start the campaign to help the player have ownership. I hope no one does die, but the combats need to be dangerous to be fun. I am going to play the NPCs as if they are players, unless they have a low intelligence.

Warforged Armor Master 3| AC 19 T 11 FF 18 | HP 37/37 | F +7 R +2 W +1 | CMD: 17 | Init +1| Perc +0

Agreed, no need for playing softball with the players, cheapens the wins! :) And if the ship wasn't faster in initiative than me... I'd totally be attack it instead! But it probably gets away before I can spew more vitriol at it.

Absolutely, I run dozens of tables a year for various living campaigns and there is nothing that bugs me more than a group coming away from a big climactic battle that will affect the story line with "Well that was a pushover".

Last battle interactive I ran for Heroes of Rokugan, I tied up the full resources of 3 tables of players just by playing my forces smart and not letting people be cheesy.

Bridge Map

I'm glad to hear this. I hate when I am in a game and a player makes a bonehead move that gets him killed and then nerd rages because the GM didn't ignore the move.

I do want the encounters to be challenging, but also fair. Since I am building the encounters, I will improvise if I see it is too challenging. This combat had a lot of "flavor" actions to build the story, especially the witch. The large assassin could have ended up in play though depending on your actions.

I was really disappointed when he didn't chase after me (was unable to reach him due to freakin' reflex saves), I was hoping to see him chase after me so that I could bull rush him off the ship. That would've been satisfying. >:)

Hey Mason? Looking over the conversion info, I realize I've made a pretty big mistake in character gen.

I was using the D&D rules for Adamantine Body, which gave me +8 to AC, DR 2/Adamantine, and counted as heavy armor, giving me a -5 ACP and the lower move speed.

Looking at the feat with the conversion website you gave us, it provides no bonus to AC, DR 1/-, and lowers my move speed but does not count as armor.

The main issue is that the feat specifically states that the DR given will not stack with any other form of DR, whereas my Archetype specifically says that it will stack DR... but only with armor. Suddenly my build is very incompatible with itself.

So I'll probably need to rebuild, but if I do it's going to be a really extensive overhaul. But I'm somewhat hoping I can take the D&D version of the feat. My options at this point appear to be between:

A. Going Barbarian, but Rage only refreshes after 8 hours rest, meaning that Servitor will then have to "sleep." Which kind of goes against the 24 hour work ethic I wrote for him.

B. Respend all my feats into offense and continue my armor master build just with actual armor. But personally I find the idea of a warforged wearing a suit of armor kind of silly looking (couldn't he just... weld more armor to himself?), and also has the problem that if I do so, I'd currently be a "tank" with an AC of 13 and no DR for four more levels, which especially since healing me is hard, my extra 5 or so HP isn't really going to cut it.

C. Go with a different fighter archetype/basic fighter. Problem with this idea being that to keep my tanking ability up (as that is the primary role I had in mind for Servitor), I'd basically have to sink all my feats into Improved Damage Reduction to keep pace with the increasing difficulty of challenges, which eventually would make me a one trick pony who's not as good at his one trick than I could be going Armor Master or something similar.

So I kind of feel a bit stuck with my options at the moment, as going for a non-DR style of tanking really doesn't work that well since healing me is a real pain, and therefore I can't rely on HP or anything like that to take the brunt since that'd mean possibly several days of the party waiting around for me to be back at full health. And personally having the Adamantine weakness in my DR makes things a bit more interesting to me, as someone with preparation and funding could totally put me in a bad spot fast, but still keep me traditionally tank-tastic.

I'll figure out a way to make this work regardless of what you decide, so don't let that sway your opinion, just figured I'd bring it to your attention so you got more say in it.

I'll research this tonight when I get home. I am more interested in how well you have played the character. I'm loving me some Servitor. I just want to make sure it is balanced. I always hated when I had a cool idea like: "I'll pay for the plate armor. Can I just say it is welded?" or "I want a velociraptor. Can I do a tiger companion and say it is a dinosaur?" And the GM says no. I'm all about reflavoring. We will find a way to get the character concept in your head on paper and keep it balanced. The main reason we all are here is for stress relief and fun. That is my #1 goal as a GM! We will make if work.

That goes for everyone with a cool concept. I'm willing to try things as long as we are all willing to admit if it is under or overpowered once we get rolling then make tweaks to it.

Servitor wrote:

Do you think you need the DR 4/adamantine right now with the 19 AC? What if the adamantine body feat worked as written in 3.5 (+8 AC, DR 2/adamantine) and then you go to DR +5 at 5th level due to the archetype? You can get some items that work (full healing) for the warforged like CLW potions for fleshwalkers. You are about to pick up four in this encounter.

If you feel like you really need that much DR, I am fine with it stacking. I think your AC + DR 4/adamantine is overkill. Throw on a ring of protection and you are a walking tank at 5th level with 20+AC and 5 DR even without the extra 2 DR from the 2 feats. If later you are taking too much damage, we could switch the feats back and stack the DR. What do you think?

Warforged Armor Master 3| AC 19 T 11 FF 18 | HP 37/37 | F +7 R +2 W +1 | CMD: 17 | Init +1| Perc +0

I think I could work with that. Main issue is that I don't want Servitor to get any more intense on his offense than he already is. Part of it has definitely just been me getting snazzy rolls, but if I took two feats away from DR and applied them elsewhere would just be that I'd put them towards feats like Power Attack and Improved Charge. And I'm not sure if I even really want to have an attack of 2d6+1d8+9... Really, if we're worried about it being overpowered, I'd just strip down the feat a bit. Take away a point of the DR, or lower the AC bonus. Something like that.

M Eladrin Druid | HP: 18 | Armor:2 | XP:3 | Str:+2 | Dex:+1 | Con:0 | Int:-1 | Wis:+1 | Cha:0 | d6 |

Omg, if Servitor takes down the ship... just wow. That's a very cool place to get a couple 20s.

Iron Will, toughness, and improved initiative are all good. I don't think power attack would make you too offensive. The sledge does already give you weapon specialization for "free". You could burn a feat for exotic weapon proficiency if you think you are too far ahead offensively from the others.

What if you only took the feat for increased DR once then took one of the above?

Warforged Armor Master 3| AC 19 T 11 FF 18 | HP 37/37 | F +7 R +2 W +1 | CMD: 17 | Init +1| Perc +0

I can work with that, and if we end up deciding I'm too far ahead DPR wise, I can always roll back the weapon mod. Besides, with where my damage has been, more damage is hardly going to change anything. :P
