If you switch from being a paladin, does that leave us short of front line melee? I don't think JP has committed yet to what he wanted, but he did say he was considering abandoning the barbarian.
Currently we've got
- Khaz / Cleric/Bloodrager
- Avo / Ranged Cavalier
- Arun / Wizard Enchanter
- Ferg / Druid]
- JP ???
- Sariel ???
I appreciate that archery can deliver a huge amount of damage, but I worry we need more weight up front. Is there anyone else who wants to help here?
Other than that, I think the group covers most angles. We have divine and arcane spell casting, trapfinding and disable device (Avo), face skills (Khaz and Arun), tracking and nature skills (several). And we're totally sorted for blacksmithing !
Arun Smithson |
On a separate issue, we could at this point divide up the spoils from our travels so far. Looking at the loot sheet, we have some items we ought to keep:
- wand of CLW: During play, Fergal took the this.
- potion of CLW: During play, Arun took this but he'll be buying more CLW potions before the AP starts, so someone else take this (first claimant gets it!)
- masterwork shortbow: Anyone want to claim this?
- hawk signet ring: might be important? Ask around Falcon's Hollow or sell?
Assuming we sell all the other kit we collected, we get 99gp and 7 sp in proceeds, at second hand value. That's 16gp 6 sp each. Please record this on your character sheets or spend it; I'll wipe the loot sheet once we start the AP.

OK guys...you all ready to move on?
We need to put the finishing touches on JP and Sariel's characters.
Somehow we are going to have to convince the crazy Dwarf that the ghost did not mean for his to inspect the caverns, but instead to carry on with his life...

Lol. I'm willing to hand-wave going to the mines. A thorough search showing that the thief did indeed leave.
But it wasn't clear enough to Khaz, and I don't like acting on ooc knowledge IC. Especially when playing a stubborn, oath-bound dwarf.

Is Avo going ranged cavalier? If so he can handle ranged and talking. So neither a sword and board paladin or ranged inquisitor would be optimal. I'm not quite sure how he would be handling traps and DD.
Once we solidify ideas I will jump back in with something; either Sariel tweaked a little or a different character.

Ok so Bahram Alhazred took Trap finder which is a trait from the AP Mummy's Mask. Are we permitted to take traits from other AP's?
EditAlso are we doing two or three traits?
Arun Smithson |
are we doing two or three traits?
I understood GM to say two traits plus one extra from our AP.

I'm ready to move one. GM, do you want to repost the link to the new game, and open the gameplay page? That way we can close this page down and continue discussions (and see Sariel and JPs builds) on the new game page.

Thanks, I hadn't gone over to the recruitment page for 'The Ironfang Invasion' yet. So does this mean we are done here? Or do we have a thief to catch?
Arun Smithson |
The upcoming AP features a hobgoblin army. I suspect that one or both of the hobgoblin archer, and the stolen artifact, are foreshadowing events yet to come.
So my assumption is that we have a week to level up and re-equip, before things kick off...
GM Mason |
I am fine with him using the one trait from another campaign, but I would prefer not to use other campaigns' traits. With that said Sariel, which one are you thinking about? I'll review it.

another who what? You would prefer not to use other or your fine with it?
I was just asking if he was supposed to take his campaign trait from another campaign. 'Trap finder' is from Mummy's mask, it's a trait for those who have explored tombs a lot.
With out it he won't be able to do magical traps.
GM Mason |
I approved for Avo to take it. I'm ok with it. I was familiar with where it came from. I just didn't want to open up all campaign traits since there are some broken ones (I'm looking at you "Finding Haleen"). ;)
If there is one you want, just run it by me.

Sure, a human could get power attack at lvl1, for 2d4+10 damage. But for -3 damage and +1 hit, the half-orc gets +2 to all saves, darkvision and intimidating. All of which seems to be worth a feat to me.
Get all of that HP, and damage resistance. At lvl2 grab lessor beast totem, and at lvl6 get beast totem (so raging gives you +1 AC).

Damn you guys know your stuff. I am feeling worried now that you all have 10+ levels of character dev planned out ahead of you to maximum effect. I certainly do not.
PS I'm a bit worried we've not seen JP for a while. Are you still with us mate?

I don't have it planned out that far, still learning the nuances. When I have questions I as JP and a couple of others.

Nothing of the sort. I usually play martials. A cleric is very new to me. I am thinking though of something very unoptimized but which sounds fun...
Bloodrager (1)
Cleric (2-4)
Ranger (5)
Sunseeker (6-16)
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/s-z/sun-seeker /
Cleric (17-20)
Lose 3 total levels of spellcasting, which is really bad. But...get near full BaB, runic weapons, runic armor...and can eventually cap his ancestors to fight with him.
Not the most optimized, but it really sounds like fun.
Sariel Patrick Cornelius |
I think the GM should be the one who makes the transition.
And aye, four classes! If you're going to prestige you might as well go all the way. :)
I was thinking we were still in this game, several had said they would join you, then you retcon and spoke with the ranger, I thought we were waiting to go look for the thief. that what I meant when I asked you to lead us out.
It seems we may be waiting to start the AP, instead of continuing this one.
GM Mason |
I'll post a transition tomorrow. I was just waiting for everyone's final build in the new recruitment thread or here.
Jean-Pierre de Suis |
As previously mentioned, I did not intend to keep Jean-Pierre's barbarian build (since it was not made for high-level play).
Instead (as communicated to the GM via PM), I will be running a Zen Archer (the actual build is on Jean-Pierre's profile).
Also, since no-one claimed the shortbow (which, since it doesn't have a strength rating, is unsurprising), I assume that we sell it (netting each PC another 25gp)...?
Khaz Dourblade |
Didn't know about empathic diplomacy trait. I'll be using that. :)
Also, I think that my very odd 4-class build will be what I go with. Because it's near full BaB, with decent spellcasting, and as a dwarf I'll get 40ft movement. 50ft with a wand of longstrider (which the ranger dip allows him to use!) That, and I think this mod has us fighting lots of hobgoblins. So getting extra damage vs them sounds useful.

Well, to be fair, you are losing *five* levels of spellcasting (three for the prestige class, and two for Bloodrager/Ranger).
It does mean that we will never get access to the high-level cleric stuff (the AP will probably cap-out at about level 16-17, which means, at best, we won't get access to stuff like Heal until level 16, and you can forget about Resurrection and Regenerate).

Guys you're the experts not me but does this work? As currently stated, we have no dedicated front line. This looks unbalanced to me.
There's no point in planning out what level 20 looks like, if we are not robust enough to survive the journey.
We need to put some thought into optimising the team vs optimising each individual build, if we want to make this AP a success.
Ideas anyone?
Arun Smithson |
I'll post a transition tomorrow. I was just waiting for everyone's final build in the new recruitment thread or here.
Guys let's move this conversation to the recruitment thread from here on in. Then it's all in one place only.
Sariel Patrick Cornelius |
hey Arun, JP and I have been discussing that, Sariel will be designated frontline, I will keep him a paladin, so he won't hit as hard as some people *looking at you JP*
When I made Sariel he was originally Aasimar, I've asked GM Mason If I could switch him back, to an angel-kin, if not I will go with Brunner Hammerfell, who will be a 'Stone Lord' Paladin.
Either should be a good enough frontliner to keep everything off of you squishy types...
GM Mason |
If everyone will post their new avatar in the Ironfang discussion page (with their L2 build in their profile), I'll get us started!!
