"Uh oh...um, Inky? Do you think you could...?" Nina asks as Lord Braggett decides to wrestle with the addled gnome.

"...Really? Again??? Fine..."

Inky pads over and attempts to give Lilli a similar sort of grapple-hug that she'd given to Zeb earlier...

Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

"Alright, settle down, sharing is caring and junk so don't boggart the books!"

Erlathan releases a dragon-sized sigh, then takes out some left over rope and binds her hands. Stop right there, criminal scum!

"I wonder if Arwyll Stead is hiring arcane guards..." he mutters, pulling the bindings tight.

While the others move to grapple the crazed gnome Bishop moves to check the books she has been gathering.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

While Inky holds Lili down, Erlathan finds enough cord to secure the gnome. She starts cursing about meddling elves and eidolons, but Gallus Crevac finally stuffs enough lace doilies in her mouth to muffle the noise.

Bishop scans the covers of the piled books Lilli was compiling; they all belong to Gallus’s impressive collection of tomes on infernal lore and diabolism.

With the situation under control, you pitch in to help Gallus figure out the cause of the disturbance in the Red Archive.

You spend 1d3 ⇒ 1 hour poring over Lilli's selection of books.

K Planes, Guidance DC20: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18 With access to a library everyone should be able to make an attempt at this check, not sure if you'll allow aiding or not.

Hanlin watches the rest of the wrastlin' match and follow up roping competition, then settles in with the others for some reading time. There seems to be some fighting over books on occasion with grabby McTentacle-face. "You aren't the only one here trained in creatures from other planes my freaky friend. The church trains its holy men to do battle with demons and devils alike."

As he reads he looks around for any available snacks as his belly starts to rumble again. "Sorry, I'm a bit of a serial snacker.. Oh, you don't suppose Lilli was being compelled to burn these books do you? Just like that other guy was being used to incite some hate crimes?"

Doing his best to help. He looks at Hanlin as he skims through the first title "Will this one help? Yggwilv's Commentary on Denizens of the Great Beyond?

Lord Braggett brushes himself down after failing miserably to restrain Lilli, and makes sure to let Inky know that he merely meant to distract the addled gnome so that Inky could restrain her safely. He then settles down with the rest to study the collected pile of books...

He does his best to help out, tossing useless books to one side, and passing potential leads to Hanlin. "That's an excellent theory, Sir!" The scholarly knight exclaims, tossing yet another book into the read pile. "Quite a brilliant plan actually, if that is indeed what is happening here. The resulting fire would both sow the seed of chaos and remove a valuable resource in our fight against devilish foes." He then grabs the next title, A scholar's guide to devils: Part II - Fiendish bargains, and gets reading.

Hanlin takes the book from Bishop, flipping it open and quickly handing it back "Yggwilv's Commentary on Denizens of the Great Beyond.. great title, but lacks in substance."

He moves on to Lord Braggett's recommendation "A scholar's guide to devils: Part II - Fiendish bargains... hrm interesting. I wonder if Part I is available?"

After an hour flipping through the yellow pages of dozens of tomes, Hanlin and Lord Bragget have a shared eureka moment. They show Gallus Crevac what they've discovered.

"A phiams! That explains Lilli's odd behavior and her mention of 'green eyes.'"

He walks over to the shelves and retrieves another book from a shelf too high for Lilli to have reached. He thumbs through the book and opens it to the relevant page.

"Phiams are also known as 'curse devils.' They have natural invisibility, are immune to fire and poison, and resist acid and cold attacks, but they're vulnerable to cold or silver weapons. Once a day, they can drop their natural invisibility and show their true form, bestowing a curse upon those who see them."

He looks up from the tome and meets your gaze. "It seems clear, we have such a creature preying upon the people of Arwyll Stead. This," he points to the bound-and-gagged gnome, "was a harmless prank, considering the far worse potential curses the phiam could bestow. Please, find this creature, before it's too late."

He moves over to his desk and retrieves a scroll case from a drawer. "I have little to help you, but please accept this token of my appreciation for figuring out what’s causing Lilli to act so strangely. It's a page of spell knowledge bearing the sanctuary spell. It may help."

Hanlin nods grimly "This devil sounds very formitable. Always being invisible? If only I had asked for the power to remove such tricks in my morning prayers." He yawns "Which I might remind you all were some time ago. It appears we have a choice to make here."

He turns to Gallus "How long has she been acting like this? Do you think the devil has already made himself visible for the day? Could one of those curses be what got into the old drunk man earlier?"

I can prepare invisibility purge the next time I rest and regain spells.

"Always being invisible and immune to fire and poison... Sounds like your run of the mill devil to me. Perhaps Lord Braggett's noble steed might be able to sniff him... her... it... out?" Erlathan ponders.

"Indeed, Sir Erlathan..." Lord Braggett says, stroking his beard, clearly concerned at the seriousness of the situation. "If we had a scent, he has the nose to track the devil down in no time. However, we would need a trail to follow first, I fear that without a clear starting point, we could be running around for hours to no avail..." He gets to thinking, and if Gallus doesn't know where Lilli was when he last saw her in her right frame of mind, he comes up with plan B. "My good Sir! Are you still in the possession of that see invisibility scroll we found? If that lasts for a decent length of time, perhaps you could act as our spotter?"

"I suppose even the most skilled of magic-wielders must resort to scroll use once in a while," Erlathan smiles, pulling the scroll of see invisibility from his pack. "He we are. If I am to read this right now, it will only last about twenty minutes. As Lord Braggett says, I wonder if there's a good place to start from?"

"Oh! And wasn't there a wand, too?" Nina asks as she begins rummaging through her gear and then through the group's unclaimed gear. "If the wand's used on all of us, we'd be able to search more quickly...once we have a decent idea of where to start, I mean!"

"Oh yes, those spells sound very helpful if we know where to start looking..but at this point its like a needle in a haystack."

"A wand!? Haha, that'll do the trick." Lord Braggett cheers, having completely forgotten about it, then nods along to Hanlin. "Hmm... Well, if this 'curse devil' blighter only appears once a day to work it's evil, then perhaps we should start where both Lady Flaga and the drunk were last alone together?" He turns to Gallus, "Do you know if she had a meeting with Zeb earlier today, Sir? Or even where she was before she came here?"

surprise round and I dont even know what is about to happen...

"The door. Someone is making an extra effort to enter unnoticed. Have that wand ready."

Bishop moves off towards the door and drawing his iron dagger he tries to disappear into a place where who ever is entering can be seen by him but the person or creature will not be able to see him.

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

Hearing the sound of the door's handle turning, Bishop moves over to the door. Seeking shadows but finding no place to hide in plain sight, he stands in front of the door.

The door opens a crack but stops when it bangs into the rogue's boot. A gust of cool night air enters the Red Archive, causing the candles in the library to gutter.

A short, feminine fiend with mottled pink skin, clawed fingers, and green eyes appears out of nowhere, hovering in the air next to the door and adjacent Bishop. It's about 4 feet tall and weighs maybe 80 pounds.

"What the--?!" shouts Gallus Crevac.

The fiend cackles and screams, "Boo!"

As the creature reveals itself, everyone needs to make two DC16 Will Saves.

Then the horrifying fiend disappears again!

He quickly pulls the scroll of see invisibility from his pack and recites it, watching the words float off the page.

As Inky moves forward, Nina pulls out her remaining vial of holy water and flings it at the last place she saw the devil...

Even Inky seems to be feeling off, shaking her head as she moves forward according to Nina's directions. "Oog, I don't feel so hot either..."

Erlathan recognizes the fiend is a phiam, or curse devil. He uses a scroll to cast see invisibility. The creature moved a few feet north of the door.

Nina and Inky succumb to the fiend's curse. The summoner throws a flask of holy water at where she'd seen the devil. The container smashes against the door, and the invisible creature howls when some of the blessed water splashes against its scaly hide.

Vegazi looks where Erlathan points, moves closer to the door, drawing her bow and loosing an arrow. She misses.

I'll go with AC since we already know quite a bit.

"So that's a phiam? Ha! I think I've fought very similar creatures before, they are exceptionally easy/hard to hit." He draws his flail and starts whirring it around. "Kibble, away!" Kibble uncharacteristically shudders when the fiend says 'boo,' but does as he's told and approaches the space indicated by Erlathan. "Have at you!" Braggett yells as he starts whirling his flail wildly at the empty space, Kibble takes a more studied approach and sniffs the air before snapping at the devil's scent.

Hanlin's years of specialized training pays off as he swats away the Phiam's scary powers. "We've been expecting you you little Devil! Your games are about to come to an end..." He moves up behind Nina and draws out what he thinks is the most appropriate weapon, his silvered mace.

He raises his left hand and lets a wave of Iomedae's angry holy energy wash through the room. Channel to harm evil outsiders, Will Save DC15 for half Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6

Watching where Erlathan points Bishop moves quickly and looks like he is about to slash at the midsection before turning the blade and making long upward strike with his dagger.

"Gallus find some vials of ink. Quickly!"

Lord Braggett recalls that curse devils are hard to hit, especially when you can't see them. (Total AC 20, and Flat-Footed is worse than Touch)

The cavalier swings at the fiend with his silver flail and misses, while his mount bites the creature without harming it. Sir Kibble succumbs to the devil's curse.

Priestly bowels rumbling, Hanlin expels a wave of positive energy. The curse devil roars in pain.

Bishop steps forward, faking out the phiam and slashing with his cold iron dagger. His blade cuts through nothing but air.

At Bishop's urging, Gallus tosses a bottle of ink at the spot Erlathan indicated. It shatters when it strikes the wall, ink dripping. The invisible fiend giggles.

Erlathan sees the phiam fly a few feet north, away from Bishop. You hear it utter a few infernal expletives.

Hanlin draws out a wand with his shield hand and blesses the group "May your maces and swords connect and the fear in your hearts subside. Kick some ass, amen."

To save time we'll say that Nina has it since Erlathan had the scroll!

"Ugh...I think I'm cursed or something," Nina wails. "I'm too young and too pretty for such a fate! But the rest of you can carry on in my stead!" She fishes into her pack and next pulls out the Wand of See Invisibility and then gives Lord Braggett a good, solid whack with it.

"Go! Do what I can't! Save the town!"

Nina draws the wand and uses it on Lord Braggett; charges remaining (15).

"Oh. My. God. Stop your shrieking, Nina! It's not the end of the world," Inky snarls at her summoner, clearly put out with the entire situation. "You got Lord Talks-A-Lot, right? Come on, we'll get Tall, Dark, and Taciturn next," she continues, stepping next to Bishop.

"Oh, no, no, no, no, NO!" Erlathan stomps his feet. "Curses. You're cursed! What are we gonna do!" He tears some hair out - what little hair has grown back in the past year, that is. "Blasted fiend, how about a couple shots of venom from the might of Kaa!"

Oh, my s-s-sacroiliac: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 4) + 2 = 9

Hanlin blesses the party with a little motivational speech and his wand.

Nina taps Lord Braggett with a wand, and the cavalier can suddenly see the invisible fiend.

Erlathan clutches his staff of entwined serpents and fires two magic missiles into the little devil.

The phiam is too angry to care, still ranting in infernal about two host devils failing to show up when summoned.

"We've banished many devils this last week, maybe your little friends were cleaned up along with them... you can ask them yourself soon enough." Hanlin says in the direction of the devil.

"Ooof!" The whack around the back of the head was unexpected, but definitely welcome. "Aha, there you are!" Lord Braggett cheers as soon as Nina's magic takes hold. "Excellent work, Lady Brightspark! Rest assured, I will not let your sacrifice be in vain. I shall carry on the good fight in your valiant name." Knowing that the despicable thing is tricky to hit, the wise knight directs Kibble to circle and harry the devil as he waits for the perfect moment to strike, forgoing power for precision and speed.

Bludgeoned by Lord Braggett's flail, the phiam recoils from the hated silver metal.

Bishop tries to follow up with his dagger, but it ain't easy hitting an invisible little devil.

The phiam flies straight up, out of reach of Lord Braggett and uses its spell-like ability to confuse the mounted cavalier up in its grill.

Everyone, you're up!

The elf scratches his head furiously. "Think, Erlathan, think! Surely there must be a better method than launching missiles like you always do..."

Erlathan feels a spark of bravery, or perhaps foolishness, and moves nearly within range of the creature. He opens his palms and sprays a rainbow of colorful dust at the devil.

GM, need your ruling here. I want to color spray at a 45 degree angle centered above Erlathan's head to avoid hitting Bishop and Lord B.

"What the-" Lord Braggett's mind starts to jumble as the foul magic takes hold. He looks around the Red Archive and the ensuing battle with a lost expression, babbling incoherently. "I abbo thack t att whie, oole, my hamplllle sen I o. oriourieam?" Suddenly jumps, looking down at Kibble with absolute shock. "Aaaagh!" As the undignified scream echoes around the room, the confused gnome starts whirling his flail at the beast between his legs."I amurim whien harived, why d, f I'medle cutarstt gro soomeanien!" Fortunately he misses, but now Kibble is just as confused as his knight.

Erlathan yells, "Incoming! Danger, close!" and scoots his slippered feet closer to danger. He tosses a fistful of red, yellow, and blue powder or colored sand above Bishop, Lord Bragett's and Sir Kibble's heads. A vivid cone of clashing colors springs forth from his slender elven hand.

Stunned but still invisible, the fiend falls like a stone, bouncing once on the floor.

Lord Braggett begins a conversation with himself, sounding a little like Bob Dylan on quaaludes. Then he tries to swat Sir Kibble. Fortunately, the wolf has more sense than his rider and dodges the blow.

Hanlin, Sir Kibble, Bishop, Nina & Inky, you're up!

Hanlin gives Braggett a funny look and gets very concerned "Braggett may be under some sort of mental control, just like the drunk man and the gnome, I'm going to see if this scroll won't help!"

He drops the wand of bless and strides over, drawing out a scroll of protection from evil, casting it and laying his hand on the gibbering Gnome's shoulder. Prot evil, 1 min!

Touch Attack if needed: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 1 = 9

Not sure if that'll help his condition or not, but Hanlin only knows what the spell does and doesn't know exactly the affliction, nor does he have spellcraft or heal so... he's taking a shot in the dark.

With his knight squirming unusually on his back, Kibble is at a loss for what he is supposed to do. "Aarf arf!?" He asks as he turns and hops in tight circles to avoid the lacklustre blows of the gibbering gnome. All the while, Lord Braggett holds on tight and treats everyone as an enemy, flinching away from Hanlin's touch.

Kibble's last command was to Aid Braggett. I went out on a limb and decided that he probably wouldn't aid Braggett's last attack, but without further commands, I don't think Kibble can do anything else yet.

Hanlin retrieves a scroll of protection from evil, and his lips move as he reads the spell. His fingers tingle with abjuration magic, but even in Lord Bragget's confused state, he's a tough gnome to touch.

Nina urges Inky forward and taps the rogue with her wand of see invisibility. "Stick her with the pointy end, Bishop!"

She retrieves a vial of holy water from her belt pouch and cursing her curse, she yells, "Attack, Inky!" at her equally cursed eidolon.

Incandescence snarls at the thin air everybody's swinging at. No one's more surprised than the eidolon, when teeth crunch down on fiendish flesh.
Bite, cursed, bless vs Invisible/Stunned/Prone; Damage: 1d20 + 4 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 + 1 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Finally getting sight of the phiam Bishop is quick with his blade looking for a spot to strike when creature least expects it.

Bishop stabs the fiend, its scaled hide turning aside some of the damage.

The phiam is still invisible to many in the party, but those who can see the invisible creature, see it's still stunned, lying prone on the floor.
