Thorgull, you can't move there since you don't see it. I'll let you change your action.

You can move 5 feet for every two wizard levels you possess (minimum 5 feet). You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Intelligence modifier.[/spoiler]

Thorgull steps aside and throws the alchemist fire he has in hand to the skeleton.

You AC mentions 12(16), but I don't see mage armor in your spell list. Which one is it?

Clenching his teeth from the mental pain, Rokhar glares at Virgil and casts a spell. Suddenly, the bandit leader appears much more impressive - even frightening - to the swashbuckler. Will DC 13 save, please. If you fail you're frightened for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds. If you make it you're shaken for 1 round instead.

Right before Thorgull acts again, the devouring fire from his vial of alchemist's fire finishes to burn the skeleton, melting the undead. Unfortunately, it explodes!

As for the HP, Thorgull has DR 2 cold and ignores the 1 point of cold damage from the skeleton, thus he's still at 1 HP after dodging most of the fire. Is that right? So he's not staggered? I'm waiting an answer before deciding what Thorgull does during his round.

Zadok: Stairs aren't difficult terrain per se, at least not in my home games.

Thorgull: I completely forgot that trait, that's great! Could you please write the DR on your character sheet (next to your saving throws for example)? You're indeed still on your feet and can act normally. By the way, the extra 1d6 damage from the skeleton is cold damage, so your DR also applies there. Quick recap: You're taking 5 damage instead of 6 from the physical attack, then nothing from the explosion. Finally, there's no splash on the second round damage of your alchemist's fire. So you're at 2 hp.

Throgull still stands, proving more resilient to frost than one could have imagined!

Virgil stands his ground but cannot suppress a shiver as he tries to stab the Norgoberite priest, missing him in the process.

The trait is already written in the header between my will save and init mods.

Thorgull makes a step back and tries to find the wand of scorching ray. Full round action? I guess so, since Thorgull has no wrist sheaths.

Grand Lodge

Full-round action if it's in your backpack or similar container. Move action if it's in your bandolier or belt (which I suppose it is since it's a combat wand), or if it's inside a Handy Haversack. Swift action if it's in a spring-loaded wrist sheath (which don't exist in my Golarion (i.e. for non-PFS games). The regular wrist sheath from the UE is fair game though.

We'll assume the wand is on your belt or something similar, so a move action will do fine. A bandolier could be a good investment, though. Iirc it can hold up to 10 small items like potions, wands, scrolls, etc.

"Alright, alright, I surrender!" The Norgoberite drops his sword and raises his hands above his head. "It's all Teb Knotten's fault anyway."

End combat, though Virgil needs to make Fort saves until he saves successfully against the poison. It's DC 13, one save is enough to stop the poison from worsening. After four failed saves, the poison will stop on its own. 1 Con damage on each failed save.

Zadok is upstairs so didn't hear that Teb Knotten comment but you guys should question him about that.

Zadok tries his best to tend to Stian's wounds.

Heal: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (11) - 1 = 10 Nope. Was trying to administer aid.

I've never been talented at mundane healing....

Hearing things calm down on the main floor, Zadok wanders back down. "Is everything ok? Stian is out cold up there but I stopped the bleeding. He'll need to sleep it off until tomorrow when my magic returns. I suggest we secure this location as quickly as we can and then camp out for a couple days and rest."

Tomorrow morning Zadok can blow all his spells on healing the party and then we can head out the next day.

Also: Yay! Level 2! I'll get Zadok updated tonight. I'm really enjoying him (never played an oracle before) and I like the group a lot. We're not super proficient in combat yet, lol, but I'm really hampered by limited spellcasting at the low levels and using most of those spells to keep everyone alive. We should buy a wand of clw asap.

Also: whoops! I've never played an oracle before and I totally forgot that Zadok has the tongues curse and should have been speaking in Aklo before. I don't think he said anything too important though.

However, you guys might want to think about learning Aklo eventually so Zadok can communicate with you. Just a thought.

---

Hearing that the man has surrendered, Zadok goes back down to see the man. "Old Blackfingers doesn't seem to have saved this time," he begins playfully. He gives the man a smile and says, "Don't worry, we won't be torturing you like some of your unholy brethren might be doing if the roles were reversed. But we will be taking you back to town. If you cooperate, we will see what we can do about shortening your sentence though."

Trying to improve attitude:
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Zadok pulls out a chair and sits down in front of the man. He studies him for a few seconds before continuing. "You had something to do with Lady Argentea's abduction." Zadok asserts without question. "Tell us where she is and what you know about her condition."

Request:
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

He then asks, "They tell me you mentioned someone called Teb Knotten. Who are they and what is their part in this scheme?"

Request:

GM rolls:
1d20 ⇒ 20

Hit points for level up are calculated just like in PFS, Virgil.

Also: it's the first time I see a player actually using the Diplomacy rules right! Yay! Also, you heard the Teb Knotten comment since the stairs lead to a kind of balcony, or at least that's how I read it. No worries about forgetting your curse, I think it's actually very common: both Thorgull and I completely forgot about his oracle's haunted curse for half the Council of Thieves campaign. We had to wait until his character's sister died horribly at the hands of vampires to remember it, and now he's haunted by his sister's spirit!

Rokhar cannot help but grin as he beholds Virgil's worsening condition. "You have the taint of Blackfingers within you. Revel in your state, do not fight it."

Turning to Zadok, he stops his malicious taunt. "I suppose that can't be helped, can it? Very well, I'll follow you to town. As for Lady Argentea, I already gave her to Izoze Teb Knotten - they forced my hand, I had no choice in the matter. We never had a choice." he adds bitterly. "Maybe you'll be able to save her if you hurry?"

He frowns as Zadok asks about Teb. "You don't know who he is? He's a bloody troll, and a mighty one at that. He and the fey Izoze came from the heart of the Border Woods recently. They beat us and forced us to obey them. They wanted a hostage to prevent the Taldane authorities from investigating the woods, I think. Izoze is with him, a devious impish fey that acts as Teb's brain most of the time. They both command to the hordes of fey creatures that have scoured the woods since that blasted winter claimed all warmth from our land."

"Look, I've been more than helpful here. All I ask is for my men in the next room to receive care." He points the unopened door to the south. "There are more of my raiders there, but they're very sick, taken by a strange, outlandish disease. They'll just die if you leave them here. I understand if you want to take me as a prisoner and give chase to Lady Argentea, but at least let the cook tend to the sick ones. I think she's still hiding cowardly in her kitchen, if I know her well. What say you?"

Searching Rokhar, you find the following:

  • Scroll of animate dead
  • Oil of Taggit (poison, two doses)
  • Masterwork studded leather
  • Masterwork short sword
  • Masterwork thieves' tools
  • Magical cloak Spellcraft DC 18 to identify

  • Wooden unholy symbol of Norgober

Re: Diplomacy: I know! I tend to wave my hand at it a lot when I'm GMing but maybe I should start enforcing it a little more. It suddenly becomes much harder to learn everything you might want to when you have to roll several checks per interrogation rather than just one.

Zadok nods his head, glad that Rokhar has been so cooperative. "Yes, you will be kept prisoner but I think we can allow your men the decency of some care for their sickness."

"We mustn't delay our journey now with a lengthy trip back to town though. We need to find the Lady." Zadok asks his companions' opinions. "What should we do with them until we get back? We can't take them all with us. Even just taking Rokhar with us would be a burden."

"I'd suggest we put this poor Stian at least in a bed. What do you say?"

Grand Lodge

Putting Stian in a bed is no trouble. Do you wish to explore more of the lodge before going to sleep? Also, do you bind Rokhar? Where do you leave him?

Thorgull nods to Virgil "Are you sure everything's ok around? Shouldn't we check around to see if anyone remains?

Virgil staggers to his feet, stretching out his limbs.

"You're probably right. Stay behind me."

The duelist sweeps the remaining room of each floor, starting nearest the entrance and moving clockwise.

"We should bring the man in from the outhouse too, if he survived."

"That's right, I almost forgot about him!" Thorgull binds Rokhar with his rope, leaving him under Zadok's watch and follows the swashbuckler. Thorgull will stay behind Virgil, ready to strike with his crossbow if there's any threat.

"And I'll talk to the cook about fixing up those sick men." Zadok offers. "Then let's do a thorough search of the house tomorrow while Stian rests off his wounds."

Stian's stat are leveled! So Stian was at -10, then healed for 4, putting him at -6. Sleeping will heal, 2hp, plus he gained another 5.

You indeed the find the raider from the outhouse about to collapse from his wounds and frostbite - he surrenders without any trouble. Four more bandits are found in the southern room as Rokhar claimed, and they are indeed very sick, each inch of their body shaking and trembling.

Heal DC 15:
This affliction is a less virulent strain of chillbane fever, a disease endemic to far Irrisen. These men are in no condition to fight or even walk.

In the northeastern room, you find a locked chest. None of the keys on Rokhar's keyring opens it.

In the northernmost room, which turns out to be Rokhar's bedroom, your find another chest which you are able to open with one of the keys he had on his keyring.

Chest contents:
The chest currently holds a gold ingot engraved with the Taldan royal seal (worth 50 gp), a spyglass stolen from a captain out of Cassomir, a silver lady’s ring (worth 25 gp), three shards of tiger’s eye gemstones taken from a Qadiran merchant (worth 10 gp each), a fine pair of leather riding boots of elven make (worth 15 gp), a silver dagger, and a leather portfolio containing several pieces of parchment, including a scroll of endure elements, two scrolls of magic weapon, and a scroll of unseen servant.

Perception DC 15:
While searching the main room, you notice there's a hidden trapdoor under the bearskin rug.

The northwestern door leads into the kitchen. A large fireplace takes up most of the north wall of this room, its radiant heat providing palpable relief from the cold weather outside. Cabinets and shelves line the remaining wall space, and four windows look out on the wintry landscape surrounding the lodge. There's no one to be found, though a tickling smell emanates from the boiling cauldron. Someone has been cooking lately.

Perception DC 10 (different check than the previous one):
You hear a loud breath coming from one of the large cupboards on the southern wall.

Following Virgil, Thorgull goes over to the sickened soldiers to examine their health. After a few moments, he coughs lightly and declares "Well, it seems that these people contracted a less virulent strain of chillbane fever, a disease endemic to far Irrisen. These men are in no condition to fight or even walk."

Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

When they find and open the second chest, Thorgull asks the permission to keep the scrolls. Before leaving the room, he stops a moment and looks back at the room, pointing out a hidden trapdoor under the bearskin rug.

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

In the kitchen, the wizard smells the emanation from the cauldron but stops suddenly to check a cupboard on the southern wall. He whispers "Virgil, come over here! There's something or someone in there... somehow!"

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

@Stian: Assume you're full. I think the plan was to rest here all day so Zadok can use all his spells getting everyone up to full health while we search the house. We'll sleep again and head out the next morning.

Zadok leaves the scrolls to Thorgull and goes about searching the house and checking on the sick men. Zadok comes running back to the kitchen when he hears Thorgull call out. "Let it out! Maybe it's the cook thinking we're coming to get them. They're supposed to heal the men in there though."

Awesome. I thought as much, but didn't think I saw it spelled out, yet.

Stian stands slowly, gingerly touching his wounds. He follows the group through the lodge.

Virgil moves over to check the cupboard, holding his rapier ready.

"If you're in there, make yourself known and you won't be hurt."

Grand Lodge

A muffled voice comes from within the cupboard.

"Please don't hurt me, I'm held here against my will! Name's Ten-Penny Tacey. Is it safe? Can I come out now?"

Knowledge (local) DC 20:
You somehow recall Ten-Penny Tacey being a wanted burglar in Demgazi, a town just south of the Border Woods.

Moments later, a shaking and quivering half-orc female comes out, her hands held high.

"Don't hurt me, I'm just the cook! I have nothing to do with Rokhar's raiders. They forced me to stay here and cook for them. Can I get back to the soup I'm brewing for the diseased ones, please?"
