Thorgull Kjalderssen |
Thorgull gets interested in the snowman. "Wow, that's well made!"
Virgil Ardelean |
Virgil joins Thorgull at the snowman and begins to give it a once over, worried for the worse.
Take 20 on searching the snowman, which gives me 20.

Virgil Ardelean |
Virgils eyebrow arches at the snowman.
"First the deer, now a snowman. There is some odd magic at work here."
-Posted with Wayfinder
Zadok Allendil |
"Odd magic or the chaos of the Tapestry descended upon Golarion? We can only hope!" From the way he says it, you're not quite sure what Zadok is hoping for.
"Hello, Mr. Snowman! What exactly is troubling you? Carrot up your bum? We only wish to move through and then bother you no more."

Thorgull watch his companions with amusement and starts mumbling a song from his childhood in the toundra "Mister Snowman, bring me a dream, make him the cutest that I've ever seen."

Despite Zadok's best lines, the snowman doesn't move or speak, unfortunately. He remains there, staring at you, a frosty carrot as its nose. Somehow the snow appears to crackle around his mouth, almost giving you the impression that it's smiling idiotically at you.
Changed the snowman's icon due to popular demand!
Stian Ovesen |
Gonna teach him what snowmen do in summer....
Being the father of three girls, 8 and under, I have that movie memorized! I've have seen it coutless times and listened to it just as many when driving somewhere.
Stian glances at his companions and shurgs. "Let's keep going." He says as he starts past the snowman.
GM Lithrac |
As Stian moves past the snowman, its idiotic smile somehow appears to turn into a grin, and a scream of frustration erupts from the frozen guardian's mouth!
Stian, Thorgull and Virgil, please make a DC 18 Fort save or be stunned for one round. Regardless of the result, you take Sonic damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
As soon as the scream reaches your ear, two hulking creatures surge forth from the ice shelf and are about to attack you.

Still in the memories of his childhood and snowmen, Thorgull didn't pay enough attention to the strange snowman. When he's hurt by the scream and when he sees the two creatures, Thorgull draws the wand of Scorching ray the group obtained the day before in the village.
"Cinders!" he says, aiming at the closest enemy.

GM Lithrac |
Stian's mind is clouded by the snowman's shriek, but Zadok and Virgil react. The oracle's arrow flies far and wide from it, while Virgil readies his rapier.
Did you have a look at the map Virgil? Don't you want to move first before you ready your action? I'll let you change it if you'd like, because your ready action doesn't have much chance to go off if you remain at the back of the group.
Virgil Ardelean |
Sorry, I was away for the weekend. My step dad has some health concerns I'm dealing with. I would move closer, I should have checked the map.

GM Lithrac |
No worries at all, Virgil. I hope everything will turn out fine for you and your step dad. Closer it is!
Virgil steps forward and assumes a protective stance, ready to strike if the iceman should come closer to him or his companions.
The creature doesn't seem to mind the implicit challenge, and closes in on the swashbuckler, slamming him with unnatural strength but being far too slow to catch Virgil off-guard! The swashbuckler strikes back and manages to chip off bits of ice composing the creature's body.

Gift of Madness: (DC 14 Will save) You tap into the unthinkable void between the stars and cause a single living creature within 30 feet to become confused for 1 round. A successful Will save negates the effect. This is a mind-affecting compulsion effect.

Thorgull makes a 5' step and draws the light crossbow to shot a bolt to the remaining creature.

Virgil's strike whistles past the "ice devil", and so does Thorgull's bolt.
Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 83
Despite his confusion, the living ice cube slams at Virgil. Once again, the swashbuckler proves too elusive for the ice devil.

Virgil misses, but not by far - his rapier rips on the ice coating of the creature... which retaliates! This time, it appears to take a more cautious approach to make sure and hit the elusive swashbuckler.
Slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 191d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 plus Cold damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2

Thorgull's bolt finally hits its mark, and causes the elemental to shatter!
End combat.
Once your wounds have been taken care of, you can think about crossing the icy river. Stian can tell that the ice layer is weak in some points, though it's hard to say where.
Any brilliant idea to handle the crossing? ;)
Stian Ovesen |
Stian removes a rope from Ragna's saddlebags and begins tying it around his waist. "I can move out and test the ice. looking for a clear path. If I fall through, you can pull me to safety." Stian says.
Once everyone is ready, he slowly edges out onto the ice.

Virgil Ardelean |
Thanks for botting me in my absence. I'm still here but posting is erratic at the moment.
Virgil nods gratefully for the healing given, before helping with the rope.
"Good luck."

Thanks to Stian's skill, the party manages to reach the other side of the frozen river without major complications, avoiding the spots where the ice is thinner. On the other side of the river, the legs and feet of a frozen corpse just from a pile of snow next to the trees there.
Searching the body, you notice that his equipment is mostly intact, and in good condition. It includes a composite longbow (Mastwerwork and +2 STR) with 12 arrows, a dagger, a handaxe and a pouch containing 14 gold coins, 25 silver and 18 copper pieces.

Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
After inspecting the corpse, Thorgull states "I have no clue what killed him. Maybe... the cold?"

Virgil shakes his head.
"Whatever was responsible, I don't think he deserved it."
The young duelist collects up the valuables to add to the groups collection.
"We should retrieve his body en route back. Perhaps one of the locals knows who he is and can see that he gets a decent burial. The last thing this place need is frozen undead stalking it's borders."

Virgil glances down at his newfound rapier.
"I don't think I have any grounds to protest."
