Kurasaviel and Tallak go hide in an alley, giving Tallak some space and privacy to slug Kurasaviel in the face and torso a few times before making off with Kurasaviel's weapon and valuables - just down the block where the rest of the party already is, of course.

Roughed Up: 3d3 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1, 1) + 6 = 10 Kurasaviel takes 10 nonlethal damage as part of this escapade.

Kura staggers out of the alleyway alone, wiping blood from his nose and mouth. It had to be somewhat real to be convincing, of course, and as he 'passes out', it's clear that the guards are convinced. Kurasaviel can't understand their words, of course, but one of them lifts him from his position on the ground while the other one opens the temple door. There are a couple more guards in there, and he calls to them in Skald for a moment before the two guards that were guarding the door separate - one taking Kurasaviel away, and the other chasing in the direction of where his 'assailants' went. The guard holding Kurasaviel speaks to him in Common - "If you're awake, I'm just gonna take you down the street to a doctor. You might be hurt more badly than is obvious."

Meanwhile, Shalelu manages to slip out of the temple and back to the rest of the group (who are never found by the second guard, who returns to door duty frustrated). She re-appears, takes stock of the group, and asks, "Where is Kurasaviel?" Her eyebrows crease, but she waves a hand dismissively. "There were four sets of tracks in there and around the back. Of course these city guards missed it. Three were like a bird's - probably this tengu creature you have mentioned, while the fourth was different. Large, unshod, like a bear's paw. But there were only two, so it must have walked upright."

Knowledge (nature) DC 20:
A bipedal animal creature sounds suspiciously like some kind of lycanthrope. Lycanthropes are quite well-known, but it's the only easy explanation for a creature that could live in a city but would still have bipedal animal-like tracks. Such creatures can transform into the shapes of the animal they represent, can curse people with their own condition by biting them, and resist all weaponry but those weapons that are forged from silver.

With a few silver words and a demonstration that he's steady on his feet, Kurasaviel manages to get away from the guard taking him to see a doctor. He gets back to the rest of the group right as they're talking about the possibility of a lycanthrope working for the Rimerunners having taken Ukshakka.

Ulf growls. "Why don't we just go take her back? It is exceedingly obvious where Ukshakka is, is it not?"

Shalelu hums before chiming in. "It might be better to know a little more precisely any information about them before we go rushing in. We could find their guild hall easily, to be sure, but we have no idea how many armed men there might be inside to guard their interests, nor whether Ukshakka is there."

Ulf gasps with frustration. "Does it matter how many there are? No number will stop me from seeking her out. Will knowing help me in that case?"

"Aaaaanyway, I'm in favor of this fine man patching me up and then getting a bit more information. I get wanting to end this, but if we're up against, you know, an entire guild, I'd like our spellcasters to be at full power and us to have a good plan of entry and exit. I mean, maybe Ulf is badass enough to mow down every Rimerunner that gets ahead of him, but some of us are not, ah, quite so enduring. I say Tallak gives me a spot of healing, and Matin, Shalelu and I can case the joint and hit up the locals for some info. We should probably rest soon and attack in the early morning hours; between two and six in the morning. What do you think?"

The jarl's loremaster is a spellcasting dwarf and warrior named Grungi Erigson, who lives in the jarl's castle in the center of the city, just like all of the king's closest advisors and most powerful allies. Though it may be awkward or difficult to get an audience with him, it is possible.

The Rimerunners' guild-hall is located on the waterfront in the Jade Quarter, a large stone building staffed by guards day and night.

So, everyone let me know where you're going and I'll send you out. Clara's going to the castle, Kurasaviel and Shalelu are going to the Rimerunners' Guild. Matin, do you want to go with them? Tallak, do you want to go straight to the caravan and go rest? Where does Calder want to go?

While Koya and Clara head off to the castle to speak about acquiring new spells, the sneakier elements of the party head to the Tian-domimated Jade District to scope out the Rimerunners' Guild House. Its in a busy part of town, although it being relatively late has brought the crowd size down. It is a two story stone building, probably twenty rooms, with hours of operation and marks of guild property on the doors. Two guardsmen, armored in chainmail and armed with clubs, patrol around the outside. Lights issue from a few of the rooms but not all. It is closed.

Clara and Koya head up to the castle, intending to meet with Grungi Erigson. While the dwarf himself is difficult to meet, his receptionist, a charming young Ulfen woman, lets them know that he has records of the sorts that Clara is looking for. She leads them into his archives, and looks through Grungi's record of what spellcasters reside within the city. After a few minutes of searching, she finds a few entries for elven spellcasters, and the pair are off again in search of the mages in question.

A few hours later, the pair are totally wrapped up with their task, Clara having managed to purchase a spell that could blend her in with her surroundings, like a chameleon. It wasn't too hard to figure out the alchemical formula, since she already knows invisibility.

The other group, checking out the Rimerunners' Guild House, slowly circle around it in the flow of the crowd. Shalelu stays back, ordering a coffee in a cafe a block down and coldly turning down any Ulfen men who try to approach her.

Matin and Kurasaviel slowly check out the area. There is a back door, but it's not in any alley or anything. It's probably just there for fire safety. Speaking of fire safety, there is also a fire escape that leads up to the upper floor, on the side of the building. Kurasaviel manages to catch sight of a guard through a window, and confirms that the inside is patrolled as well.

A receptionist is visible through the front window, though she is packing up and getting ready to go home, and the building is marked as being closed.

You will need two successful Climb checks and a successful Stealth check in order to climb the fire escape quickly enough to escape detection and then slide into one of the windows on the upper floor. You will need a successful Disable Device and Stealth to unlock a door and get through while a guard isn't looking. You will not get to try again on either of these checks due to the time constraint involved.

Assuming we're waiting long enough for me to make a new day's extracts, I get 5x Level 1 extracts and 3x Level 2 extracts.

For Level 2, I can prepare any combo of up to three Invis and/or Levitation (which might also be useful for this operation?)

For Level 1, I *just* learned Blend which is sort of a poor man's invisibility: It only grants +4 to Stealth..but it lets you make Stealth checks without cover or concealment (as long as you move no more than 1/2 your speed)...and it lasts 10x as long as invisibility (30 minutes instead of 3). For Stealthy types, Blend might often be enough. e.g. it takes Clara's Stealth from +14 to +18.

If you want Clara's help with this operation, you'll have to go and get her. You can also always just postpone it until everyone is together the next day, if you like.

Realizing that infiltrating the Rimerunners Guildhouse may be slightly more difficult than they was originally prepared for, Kurasaviel and Matin and Calder and Shalelu head back to the caravan to meet up with Tallak and Clara and plan for going the next day.

Ameiko and Sandru greet them as they return, cheerfully showing a pile of money that they had earned from selling the things that the party didn't want. All in all, it's about 2,500gp that they gladly turn over to the PCs. Sandru lets them know that he will go shopping for them if they need or want him to buy them something while they go adventuring, but he otherwise just turns the money over.

Koya plays with her cards, and dinner is served. The night goes by peacefully, though Ulf impatiently paces in circles around the caravan, grumbling and growling. It takes a long time for him to bed down, but he eventually assents to sleeping... as long as they are going as soon as possible in the morning.

Kurasaviel explains the plan, stressing how important stealth is.

Once we're at the door, I'll handle looking for traps and the breaking in, though I surely wouldn't mind some help there, Matin. We'll find a small alley nearby to go ahead and spell up, then we're going to not be able to see one another. We'll link up by touch; I'll go with Clara. If anyone has the Message cantrip, well, we could definitely use it at that point. We'll all make for the back door. How does that plan sound, everyone?"
