Tasked with escorting a group of goblin prisoners from their camp to civilization for interrogation by the Pathfinder Society, you must protect them not only from the beasts and hazards of the wilderness, but themselves. Written by Jim Groves.

Hi folks,

My name is Scott Young, and I'll be running this "table" of Pathfinder Society scenario #3-01, The Frostfur Captives. Thanks for signing up!

A few housekeeping things:
* if you're new to Play-by-Post, take a look at this excellent post to tell you everything you need to know.
* Since this is an official Pathfinder Society game, all characters need to be PFS-legal as outlined in the Guide to Organized Play. I will assume your Chronicles are in order, but I may ask to see them at some point. Please send me a list of scenarios that this PC has played, though, so I can make any appropriate tie-ins to previous events.
* please make sure the alias you're using has a complete character sheet on it, including gear, spells, the whole enchilada.
* I will post combat maps when needed, and everyone can declare their round's actions before I resolve the round. Don't assume that just because someone else has posted their declarations that is has happened yet - events will be resolved in initiative order all at once.
* I tend to do my main posting after 9PM Central time, although I will check in throughout the day as well. Please let us know if you aren't able to post daily, and I will discuss with you a way to NPC your character until you can come back.

We'll start on the 5th or slightly before (if we're allowed to by the PbP powers-that-be).

Hi Scott,

Quick question. My character spent his childhood as a Shoanti nomad. He can't stand orcs and wants nothing to do with their culture. Therefore, never bothered to learn their language and has no intention of doing so. May I replace 'Orc' with 'Shoanti' as one of my character's starting languages?

As this is a Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign game, there are no GM changes allowed, sorry. You could put a point into Linguistics to gain the language if you want it. Or take a human instead, and have just enough orc blood to flavour your appearance but not enough to make you "half" orc game-wise.

OK, I have looked over all of the characters and sent everyone a PM with some questions or possible errors. Please check them out, resolve any issues or ask any questions, and be ready to go on the 5th. Thanks!

Grand Lodge

Hey Scott, Looked over the PM, and answered the questions to the best of my knowledge.

Okay, Rha'ziz is now a Varisian human. I tweaked his stats around to reflect this and adjusted his background, etc. Please take a look to make sure everything is in order. Thanks!

Don't know if I'm supposed to dot as well, but just in case, here is my dot.
Asatsuyu: Waiting anxiously for the fifth...and for someone who is supposed to be at the table to not dot.

Darn waiting... let me see what I can do about this...

So, I know one player's character is occupied in another game for a bit... what is the earliest people could actually start, in case the V-O's permit it? Just getting character development, introductions, and so on going would be nice.

I can start saturday

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Druid (bear shaman) 3, hp 30/30, AC 18 (T 10, FF 16), Fort +6, Ref +4, Will +6, Perc. +8, Init. +2

I can start now for my part.

I'm here. Sorry, I didn't see the discussion thread. I can start anytime.

I made a few minor cosmetic changes to the profile, mostly to clarify things that hadn't been explicitly stated, like the alternate Woodcraft and Fleet-Footed racial traits and add the missing Run feat. He's now ready to go.

Alas, we can't start until the 5th... sorry. I will post as early on the 5th as possible to get things underway.

If you have already played scenarios with this character, please either post or PM a list of which ones so I can devise suitable transitions in your introduction.

Eryndir is brand new.

Grand Lodge

So I'm about to start a new shift that wont allow me to post reliably. So I think I'm going to bow out of the PFS event until I'm not working nights and sleeping days.

OK, Rake, thanks for the heads-up... sorry to lose you!

I have invite our first backup, Kyras to join. I've also started the introduction in the Gameplay thread - we can start posting in-character descriptions etc. The game will start Saturday morning!

Sovereign Court

Male Half-Elf Ranger/2 HP 18/18 | AC: 19 /T: 13 /FF: 16 | Perc. +11 | F: +4 / R: +6 /W: +2 | CMB +4 | CMD +17 | Speed 30 | Init. +4

I will post in gameplay right a way.

And we're on!

Hey folks, please head over to the gameplay thread and post there... the game has started! I will be posting daily, usually in the morning (Central Time). If you will be away for a while, please feel free to send me guidelines on how I should NPC your character.

When and if we get into combat, I will roll initiatives and post the order automatically. Everyone can then declare what they want to do, but it doesn't happen until I "resolve" the round at the end. Basically, I'll take your declarations and run them in initiative order, modifying them as needed to adapt to the circumstances. That way, all of the results of the round will be in a single post and clearly laid out.

Any questions, let me know!

Working at a convention this weekend. I might be able to get my head above water at some point and check in. Otherwise, please NPC me from tomorrow until Monday if needed.

I didn't want to bring this up during gameplay, but it might be a good idea for the other party members to roll off in order to determine who stumbles upon the near empty liquor bottles that are hidden in the sled among the common provisions and extra supplies. :/

In fact, my character's behavior thus far may start to make sense in light of certain revelations...

Just sayin'...

GM (and players who won't metagame):
The Gordini family's business is narcotics distribution, particularly opiates and amphetamines. Rhaz's family maintains a strict policy of abstinence from these substances and the real reason he was sent, first to Korvosa, then to Absalom, was because his kin caught him experimenting with their product. But this did not save him from the binge drinking that is rampant in the Chelish military and the subsequent, yet well hidden, alcoholism that Rhaz has been afflicted by during the last few years. Rhaz is what is known as a 'functional' alcoholic who is able to maintain an outward appearance of semi-competence and has his habit 'under control'. But this is slowly catching up with him, even if his denial prevents him from seeing how his drinking is abnormal and the detrimental effect it is having on his relations and personal life. Rhaz currenly suffers from a minor addiction to alcohol that is quickly becoming a moderate addiction. The reason he was so eager to leave the briefing and only halfway listened to the mission details is because he was preoccupied with stocking up on his supply before the journey. Unfortunately, his reserves of Linnorm Brandy are almost out and he is about to experience withdrawals - a fact that he is not looking forward to. His top priority right now is to make it to Harvest's End before he runs dry. Rhaz clearly needs help but has done a very good job of concealing his problem from both himself and those around him.

I will be able to post late tonight, and again tomorrow, but am tied up until this evening with family stuff.

I have two daughters and I'm going to college. I spend all year building up immunity to con crud.

Yeah, I have 2 girls as well, at different schools, and I work in a museum... three germ pools to draw on. Tends to kill you or make you immune pretty fast.

Hey folks, tied up for most of day... will post again later this evening. Sorry for delay.

At conference, and wifi sucks... May not get much posting done this weekend until Sunday. Will try, though.

At a con for the day, will post when I am back tonight.

Sorry guys, I had to deal with some family related stuff and missed a few days. I'll get caught up here soon.

Boon rolls! A 20 means you get to choose, and 1 means a random boon! Dice rolls in alphabetical order by PC name, with me at the end.

Beromir: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Eryndir: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Kyras: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Rha'ziz: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Skaar: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Sochi: 1d20 ⇒ 15
GM: 1d20 ⇒ 9

EDIT: Wow! Eryndir, Rha'ziz and Skaar all get boons! Rha'ziz and Skaar will receive a boon selected randomly by the event organizers via email. Eryndir, you get to choose from the following - please let me know asap so I can report the game:

Boon 1 - Lingering Resonance: A recent encounter with an enemy spellcaster left your body strangely receptive to spell effects. At the beginning of a scenario, you may announce that you are using this boon. The next time that you fail a saving throw against any spell or spell-like ability from an enemy spellcaster, have your GM write the name of the spell below. Choose one of the following benefits, and cross the other off your Chronicle sheet.
• When you cast the listed spell, you may increase the DC of the saving throw by 2.
• When you roll a saving throw against the listed spell, you gain a +4 bonus on the save.
You may use this bonus once for free, after which you should check the box below; each additional use of the selected benefit costs 1 Prestige Point.

Boon 2 - Long Distance Support: You heard the Decemvirate’s call to arms as the Fifth Crusade began, but for whatever reason the society did not send you to the front lines immediately. You may nonetheless send extra supplies to aid your fellow Pathfinders. At the end of any scenario that does not take place in Mendev or the Worldwound, you may choose to spend 1 Prestige Point to send a cache of necessary supplies north to aid the war effort. On a line below, have your GM record where the scenario took place and initial the entry. Upon filling all five lines, you gain two benefits.
First, you gain a Mendevian Commendation for your tireless efforts to supply the crusade. A Mendevian Commendation grants you a cumulative +1 bonus on Charisma-based skill checks to influence Mendevian Crusaders (maximum +3).
Second, as a swift action while fighting a creature with the demon subtype or bearing an unholy symbol of a demon lord, you may grant all allies that you can see within 60 feet a +2 circumstance bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws against those creatures for one minute. When you use this second ability, cross it off your Chronicle sheet.

Boon 3 - Mendevian Weapon Training: Queen Galfrey of Mendev understands both that poorly equipped crusaders are of little use to the ongoing war against demonkind and that an inadequately trained crusader cannot make effective use of good equipment. As a result, those who dedicate themselves to the Fifth Crusade have access to training and equipment that might not otherwise be available. When you would be permitted a Day Job check, you may instead spend 4 Prestige Points to receive intensive training with a specific weapon or suit of armor. You receive a masterwork version of the weapon or armor, and you gain proficiency in that specific weapon or armor (but not others of its type). If you are already proficient with the selected armor or weapon, you instead gain a +2 bonus to CMD against disarm and sunder combat maneuvers targeting the chosen item.
Choose the weapon or armor from the following list: breastplate, glaive, heavy shield, or longsword.

Boon 4 - Moment of Glory: Whether it is by fate, fortune, or circumstance, you are able to tap into a hidden reserve of power at just the right moment to perform a truly extraordinary feat. By activating this boon as a free action, you become a mythic character (1st mythic tier) for 3 rounds. If you fall unconscious due to hit point loss during this time, you automatically stabilize without needing to attempt a Constitution check. In addition, once before this effect ends, you may use the surge mythic ability to increase any d20 roll you just made by rolling 1d6 and adding it to the result. Using the surge is an immediate action taken after the result of the original roll is revealed. This can change the outcome of the roll.
When you use this boon, cross it off your Chronicle sheet; however, anytime you successfully complete (earning the maximum possible number of Prestige Points) a scenario that using the “hard mode” option, you may have the GM sign this boon. You may use this boon one additional time for each such signature you receive.

UPDATE: apparently I have to roll the random boons.

Rha'ziz: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Skaar: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Liberty's Edge

Elven Monk 1 (Zen Archer) - HP 9/9 - AC: 16/T: 16/FF: 13 - Perception: +7, Sense Motive +7 - F: +3/R: +5/W: +5 (+7 vs enchantments) - CMB: +1 - CMD: 14 - Speed 30 ft - Init: +11

I'll take the Moment of Glory boon, thanks.

Sczarni

M Human (Varisian) Fighter (Brawler) 1 | HP 16/16 | AC 18 T 11 FF 17 | CMD 16 | F +4 R +1 W 0 | Initiative +5 Perception 0 Sense Motive 0

Ok, I'll go with heavy shield when I am eligible to make the check. How does that work? How do I get Prestige Points?

Chronicles are sent; boons will be sent by the event organizers. Rha'ziz, I think you just write the one you choose on the boon. The Chronicle I sent you via email has your XP, gold, and Prestige awards on it - you just fill out the rest of the numbers (starting XP, starting gold left over from buying equipment, etc) and do the math. Keep all your gold on the Chronicles - everything you spend has to be tracked on there.

Thanks a again for a fun game!
