"That's perfect, Kat!" Kronas says as he gratefully takes the rope and ties it to his grappling bolt, "No mountain can stop us now." He says with a confident smile.

Later, at the chasm...

"Eeep!" Kronas feels a little dizzy looking down at the bottom of the chasm and stumbles back from the edge, but he quickly regains his composure and starts shouting back at the others, "It's not really spellweaving, but I think I have a plan that can sort of float him across..." He carefully loads the grappling bolt into his crossbow and looks to the other side of the chasm for possible targets, "If we can get some of us to the other side and tie a second rope around Kalkamedes, maybe we can pull him across like a some weird game of tug o' war?" Knowing that it would be good to have a line to the other side, whatever the plan happens to be, Kronas aims his crossbow across at the best spot he can find and fires, "I also have a scroll that can make him fall slower, but I've never tried it from this high up before..."

Season of Ghosts

Jyrrar and Mister Crab both work to keep Kalkamedes from advancing any further while the rest of the group attempts to work out a way to get him (and themselves) safely across the chasm or down it. Not wanting to tempt fate by dillydallying around, Kronas decides to get to work on his own idea of rigging a sort of pulley system across the chasm while Katswiri and the rest of the group wrack their brains to see if they can come up with any other grand ideas.

Luckily, Kronas' grappling bolt has just enough range to cross the chasm and hook itself onto the limb of a scrubby-looking tree that sits near the opposite cliff's edge!

"Oy lad! I sure hope this idea of yers works - because I gotta tell ye, I ain't nae fan of heights at all!" Gamin remarks, voice full of apprehension.
_______

Okay, so if I understand the plan right you now have some rope spanning the chasm and Kronas holding the other end of it. Good start! Now how do you wish to proceed? :)

Ash walks up to the edge of the cliff and peers down. "Okay, now that's scary.", he ponders on the next steps the group is going to make, looking down into the chasm and back at Kalkamedes.

Once Kronas fires a grappling bolt to the other side, his eyes go wide.

"Close call, that rope length. But good thinking. Think you can hold it while I go secure it on the other end?", he looks at Fenrir.

Assuming the response is positive:
Climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Ash quickly shimmies across and even though the rope is secure with a grappling hook, he holds it just in case.

If Fenrir wouldn't hold it, we'll have to think of something else.

He says as he puts away his crossbow and starts rummaging around for his scroll of feather fall, "And good luck! Just, err, shout if you start to fall." He says with a friendly smile and a wink as he holds up his scroll.

Readying the scroll just in case something truly nasty happens.

Looking straight into Kats face Winterhawk days "Got it." Winterhawk directs his next comment at Kronas. "Hey Kronas how long does your scroll of feather fall say it will last?"

"Hey its not a hair brained scheme just listen." the wiry elf stares at Fenrir sternly.

"So I have a thought. What if we let ole Kalk here walk off the edge with the rope Fenrir and I are holding attached to him. Kronas casts his scroll of feather fall and Ash and maybe someone else over on his side pull Kalk across so his decent seems more of a walking on air bit?"

Not trying to change the plan or anything but thinking most of us get across except Fenrir and maybe Kronas depending on the length of feather fall. Fenrir holds Kalk down with some assistance briefly. Then Kronas cast feather fall on Kalk scurrying across and then Fenrir lets Kalk go. He glides down while we pull him across. I release Fenrir and then Resummon her back. Which means there would be no need to figure out getting the rest of us across after we get Kalk across.

Kronas thinks on the question for a second, trying to remember what the nice shop keeper told him about the scroll, "Hmm, I think it's real quick, like," he snaps his fingers, "and it's all over! I mean, it might work, but I'm scared that we might need the scroll for an emergency..." He sneaks a quick glance down the chasm and immediately regrets it, "I think Kalkamedes will be perfectly safe with two ropes around him. I'm more worried about the rest of us."

I'm afraid that the feather fall scroll will only last a single round and it only works if the target is already falling. I think it might be just as easy to get Corbett across, then Kalk, and while Corbett and Kridash are pinning Kalk on the other side, the rest of us cross (Kronas last because he's the lightest) and Fenrir can be summoned to the other side like you said. I mean, we have to pin Kalk for a long time either way, we might as well try holding him back on the side without a big drop if he wriggles free. ;)

Just to make sure I've got the correct visual, you're going to have a couple of people - like Ash - shimmy across the rope like this and then sort of use a pulley system to haul Kalk across, then the rest of you cross, then have Winterhawk just boop Fenrir across last? That should work, I just want to make sure I've got the right mental image so I can describe the proceedings properly :)

Season of Ghosts

Ready to put your plan into action, Fenrir takes the end of Kronas' rope and winds a short section of it around a nearby boulder before gripping it in his teeth and firmly planting his four paws on the ground to hold it tightly and to hold it steady. Kridash decides to brave the crossing first and clings to the rope, legs wrapped tightly around it, and pulls himself along over the chasm. It's a long way down but the rope holds steady on both ends and Kridash doesn't allow fear to get the better of him. After what seems like ages but in reality is maybe only a minute, the half-orc reaches the other side of the chasm and safely drops down onto the ground.
_______

Kridash is now safely across! It took me a bit of reading to find an exact setup that makes sense to me but to cross the rope in this sort of manner will be a DC 10 Climb check. You may Take 10 if you wish; failure by 5 or more means that you'll fall. If you *do* fall, you can try to catch yourself with a DC 20 Climb check - it's uh...kinda difficult to catch yourself if you start to fall but it *is* possible! And if that fails, then Kronas can still catch at least one person with his Feather Fall scroll - which I'll assume he'll ready an action to use while he waits for everyone else to cross. Note: the relevant action in that video starts at the 2 minute mark...

When it's his turn to cross...

After watching Luna cross, inexplicably still wearing that massive backpack of hers, Kronas gives Fenrir a quick hug for luck and reluctantly starts climbing across himself, "Don't look down, Gamin!" Jyrrar vs. Kalk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

One by one, each of you slowly and carefully make the journey across the rope, silently thankful for Fenrir's strength in helping to keep it steady. First Mr. Crab, then Jyrrar, then Winterhawk and Katswiri until it's just Kronas, Gamin, and Fenrir left on the opposite side.

"Awright, awright, just...just keep a good grip on that rope, lad!" the sword exclaims nervously once it's Kronas' turn to cross the chasm. A few of you idly wonder if a being like Gamin is able to close his eyes or not while you watch Kronas shimmy across or wrestle Kalkamedes into submission, but decide that now probably isn't the best time to ask.

"Praise tha gods, ye made it lad! An' just in time; I dinna think I cou''ve taken much more!" Gamin bellows once the gnome reaches the rest of you, clearly relieved. With everyone now safely across, Fenrir makes sure that the rope on his end is firmly secured before signaling to Winterhawk to call him across the chasm to join everyone else. After taking a few moments to dust yourselves off and catch your breath, the signal is given and you allow Kalkamedes to resume his journey. Great bands of stars sweep across the cloudless night sky, illuminating a series of game trails that chase through the mountain shrubs and berry bushes.

Ho Hum:

Kronas Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
Fenrir Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Bear Perc.: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Having gone back to scouting ahead, both Kronas and Fenrir do their best to move quietly through the shrubs and bushes. As they move along, both of them begin to hear what sounds like grunting and snuffling coming from further ahead. Rounding around some bushes, both of them freeze in their tracks as they spot what looks to be a young grizzly bear enjoying a late-night snack of berries no more than maybe 30 or 40 feet away. Despite his best efforts to move quietly, Fenrir's paw comes down on a small twig with a *snap* and the bear pauses in its snacking to look up. It watches the eidolon cautiously and utters a series of short clacking and growling sounds.

"Well we found some wildlife along the trail. Happens to be a bear, I think I can outrun it but I think Kronas and his sister may need a lift again." Communes with Winterhawk.

Fenrir slowly moves to Kronas' side and slowly lays down so he and his sister have an easy reach to her built in "saddle" whispering to the we ones "I can easily outpace the bear I believe hope on my back as soon as you are able and I will whisk you both to safety."

"A BEAR!" Winterhawk both states aloud and projects to Fenrir. "You are quite right Ash he does have the active sleeping patterns."

Thinking to himself I wonder how long Kronas and his sister can hold their breath for? he begins waving away an idea that seems to silly to grasp at. "Nah that Won't work, I also have some hard take and Jerky that might hopefully prove enough of a distraction to the gentle giant ahead of us."

Had the strange idea that maybe Kornas and Luna hold on tight to Fenrir while mounted. Fenrir Releases taking Kronas and Luna along for a quick ride to the demi-planes and then call Fenrir back with the Gnomes astride her back. Figured since Equipment you give to your Eidolon can leave and return with the it, same might be said for those that are mounted.

Nothing to See:

Bear Will (DC 14): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Ready to fall back to Plan B should Plan A fail, both Kronas and Luna hop astride Fenrir while the rest of you restrain Kalkamedes - rather handily, this time. Keeping his fingers crossed, Kronas begins to sing...but while the bear regards him quizzically for a few moments, it otherwise seems to be unaffected by the gnome's performance. Sadly, Fenrir has no idea how fast the average bear can move but suspects that having the advantage of four legs would probably allow it to outrun the gnomish siblings. Of course this also means that he can most likely outrun the bear or at least match its pace enough to stay ahead. After another quick bit of discussion, Katswiri can confirm that bears can move quicker than someone on foot but probably couldn't outrun Fenrir. 40 ft. speed for bears!

Wondering if the group is perhaps overthinking things, Jyrrar begins looking around to see if there might be an alternate path to take...

Jyrrar Survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

...and though he's not sure if it's an old game trail or perhaps a footpath, he finally manages to spot a half-overgrown trail leading away towards the east.
_______

Alas, you can't target the same creature with Fascinate again for a full 24 hours if they make their save. On the bright side, Jyrrar seems to have found an alternate path - it'll take some wrangling of Kalkamedes but you could probably bypass the bear that way. You can also ride atop Fenrir and lure the bear away with some food, if the gnomes fancy a joyride :3

Kronas looks at the unimpressed bear and wonders what on Golarion possessed him to sing when obviously a story would have worked much better. "I don't know... Maybe we should just leave it alone, Fenrir? If we pick up Corbett's jerky on our way back, I can flavour it like the tastiest of berries and throw it over as an apology for disturbing it..."

While Kronas tries to decide what to do, Luna just waves at the young bear, happy to get such a close look at the cute and furry creature. The fact that she gets to have another ride on Fenrir so soon is the icing on the cake, and she is positively beaming.

Kronas can flavour the jerky and hardtack Corbett tossed over with prestidigitation and if it's as hard as he says, the bear can have hours of fun. :)

I'm probably out for a few days now, but I'm good with whichever method y'all decide on.

He then attempts to guide the sleepwalker towards the path, yet he feels his grip on the rope loosening.

Season of Ghosts

With the group deciding that maybe trying to bypass the bear would be the best course of action, Jyrrar and most of the group begin the tedious task of wrangling Kalkamedes down the eastern path. As an apology of sorts for disturbing the bear, Kronas uses a little magic to flavor up the jerky and hardtack that Corbett had tossed to him. Taking a deep breath, he takes a few steps forward and tosses the treats towards the bear - who jumps a bit, startled, but then eagerly begins sniffing out the goodies among the foliage and bushes.

"Nae a bad idea...sometimes tha bravest thin' ta do be avoid a fight instead of startin' one - even with forest critters," Gamin remarks.

As the group leaves the area behind, they can hear the bear snuffling happily and the sounds of crunching and munching. Apparently the berry-flavored jerky and hardtack is quite the hit. Perhaps there's a future fortune to be had in specially crafted animal crackers for animals?
________

After some effort, you manage to half-guide, half-drag Kalkamedes around the area where you saw the bear and eventually feel safe in allowing him to walk under his own power once more. The group continues on for a time, thankfully not running across any further obstacles or hazards. Perhaps objecting to silence, Gamin eventually breaks it with a question.

"Say...now that we've got some time ta talk, mebbe ye folks cou' tell me a little about yerselves. What brought ye all into this kind of work an' all?"

This seems like a good place to take a quasi-break for the holidays. If anyone is around and feels like chatting a bit with Gamin or each other during this time, please feel free! Otherwise we'll resume with operations on Tuesday the 26th :)

Katswiri walks alongside Jyrrar, trying to keep an eye on Kalkamedes, her surroundings and everyone's faces while stealing curious glances at the sword. Eventually, after some time without immediate danger, her curiosity gets the better of her. "Gamin. I was wondering if you would permit me to touch you? When I was learning to speak, my teacher would have me touch his throat to feel the vibrations that were forming the sounds. It was not very helpful for learning words, but helped me learn to keep a conversational volume and pitch, and how to form the base for certain sounds that are not only shaped by the lips." She loosens her collar, touching two fingers to the base of her throat. "Ffff. Vvvv. Ahh. Nnn. They engage different parts of the throat, which helped tremendously when trying to puzzle out the whole method."

"I am curious if part of you also vibrates when you speak, or if your magic produces vibrations in the air directly. May I hold you and touch your blade while you speak to try and find out?"

Seemingly with the transitions back and forth between her home plane and the material Fenrir's body has adapted further when once a single earthen 'saddle' had been has changed to a double 'saddle' for both Kronas and Luna to comfortably sit as they feel the rush of the wind tussle their gnomish colorful locks. "I am all to glad you are able to enjoy yourselves on these rides little ones. Soon Elias will be able to ride astride my back, alas I have not grim into my form enough just yet to allowing him to sit across my back."

Fenrir smiles strangely although gleeful her lupine muzzle does present some difficulty work discerning het facial features.

Fenrir sniffs the blade sneezing as she finishes. "Greetings Gamin, something about your speech leads me too believe you are or were a dwatf."

"Are you sure he didn't just grow into his form too much?" Luna asks, looking at Winterhawk who is over twice her height, "I think you're just perfect the way you are!" Holding on tightly to Fenrir, and with the wind blowing through her hair, the little gnome has never been more certain that she wants to join the Pathfinder Society than she is during the exhilarating ride. Kronas just keeps giggling excitedly.

Season of Ghosts

Gamin laughs, clearly bemused by Katswiri's curiosity. "Some of ye folks come up with tha dangedest questions, dinna ye? Knock yerself out lass, least I ken do after all tha help ye've given me man Kalkamedes tonight!" Once Katswiri reaches out and carefully grasps the sword in her hand, he asks, "Testin', testin'...ken ye 'hear' me now, lass?" And Katswiri notices that no discernible vibrations seem to come from the sword as he speaks - lending weight to her other hypothesis, that the magic imbued in the sword causes vibrations in the very air itself.

To Fenrir's curious sniffing and inquiries, Gamin is then silent for a moment. "Nae quite, Friend Wolf, but close enough I 'spose. It was dwarves what forged me, so makes sense enough that I sound like 'em when I talk, right?" he replies.

Over the course of another two hours, the rough, mountainous scrubland gradually flattens and gives way to thicker copses of trees sustained by a series of chilly, narrow streams as Kalkamedes' trail meanders northwards again. Kronas and Fenrir range ahead of the group as they've done all night, scanning for potential threats and other obstacles. The pair follow an old dirt trail that cuts through the thick trees and underbrush and branches into a Y-intersection. As they approach the 'y', both Kronas and Fenrir suddenly notice movement among the trees and underbrush and spot what look to be several bandits hiding along the path - ready to strike in an ambush. As if on cue, several round stones suddenly come sailing out of the trees!
