Candrana rolls her eyes and squeezes the little pest a bit harder. If he's leaking fumes anyway, I might as well get them all out at once.

" I'm still waiting for you to get to something useful. Perhaps you should work on that before I forget that I'm waiting."

Grayson takes the silver dagger and puts it right on the little pests throat carefully putting a little pressure so that he keep feel his flesh tearing.

"A little more pressure and I'll be sending you back from where you came. Now, I don't know if that place is any better than the predicament that you're currently in, but if I were you I would answer my companions questions, without any whimsical responses."

Sczarni

The little red creature's laughter is cut short as Candrana squeezes it. As Grayson puts the blade to it's throat it cries out, "Ok ok, I'll tell you what I know. The phrase 'good Baron Sarvo wills it' is a password to get further in. Who or what you give it to I am not sure as I haven't ventured that far in." He looks around at the party members before adding, "So can you let me up now? This elf has a really boney knee and it's right in my back."

"You're lucky it's not on your throat, you little beast" Candrana looks at the others, and then at the unconscious Zilch. "If we let him go, how do we know he won't worry us all the way through?"

Sczarni

"It's no fun now that you have that filthy dagger. I want no more of that so no more games from me."

"That's what you say, but you haven't even told us about the treasure! What sort of trust is holding back key information building?!?!?!" And my knees are *not* boney! I just lead a very active lifestyle, what with adventuring and guarding and all!

Sczarni

The little devil sighs and calmly states,"I know there is some sort of treasure as I stated earlier I have not ventured far enough in to find it. I have given you the only helpful piece of information I have." He looks up and Candrana with a bit of fire in his eyes and screams, "NOW GET YOUR BONEY KNEE OFF ME YOU AROGANT POINTY EARRED FREAK!"

The half-elf uses his boot to nudge Zilchus, attempting to see if he's breathing.

"Toasted?"

And then decides to kneel down and take a closer look.

If the driver is not deceased, then we could consider releasing the pest, although I'm sure Heladel would not approve. If Zilch is worm fodder, then the pest should be too.

Hearing the little beast shreek about pointy ears, he thinks of his short sword. My blade might not end him, but I bet slicing his skin from end to end would hurt.

"See my companion over there. His life is tied to yours. If he doesn't recover neither do you. If he recovers than you'll be fine as well. Now, if I were you and had some means of closing up wounds I suggest you do that."

Grayson mentions to the red pest. I hope he gullible enough to heal Zilch so we can get him back up.

Backpack Dreams, no ye read, for no madness need ye:

He worshipped you like a god. Every word, scripture. Every touch, healing. He defended you to his friends. He never doubted you. Even now.

By the time they are done sparring, both are sweating and breathing heavily, and neither has a care in the world. “You send me a message every time you get ready to swing for my side, you know.” Elyanius brushes the plastered hair from William’s forehead. “When you prepare, you bring your sword back and down, always back and down. I’ll have you every time, if you don’t learn to move from your hip.” William is breathing so hard, he can only nod his understanding, but the smile is encouraging.

“Next time, Da. I’ll get the better of you, I will. I’ll practice even more, so as I’ll be ready for the call when I’m old enough.” William waits, as Elyanius takes his shoulder and squeezes it, and only then does he run off, tapping the wooden sword along the fence. Oh, to be eight again.

“Stop encouraging the boy, Eli.” Her hand strokes the matted hair from his own forehead, and it lingers, giving his scalp a playful scritch. “He’s meant for higher office, you know. Like town blacksmith, or scrivener. If you keep that up, he’ll follow you right into the dirt of the militia, and he’ll never get it off.” He needs to lean back, as she completes the whisper in his ear.

“Oh, come now, Lenore. ‘Deputy Marshall’ has weight to it. You should see how fast the boys scatter when I chase them off. The peach trees are safe from them at least.” The wrinkles at the corners of his eyes glisten from perspiration. He catches her hand as if to arrest her, but only brings it back to his head, where she carries out her sentence of continued scritching. “Bottlebrush has never been safer, really. No one even knows how to find us on a map, we’re so crafty. Best kept secrets are well kept when no one asks. By the gods, I don’t think the town even knows it has a deputy marshall.” He releases her from her duty, only to swing her around, and embrace her. Her hair mixes with his, mutually gray, and now, mutually sweat-laced.

The creature signs clearly frustrated. "Very well, let me up and I will see what I can do."

Candrana reluctantly releases the creature and makes a note to purchase a silver weapon at her first opportunity.

"I concur we should take Zilch upside and see if there are any temples that can fix him up, along with the rest of us"

Digging through his backpack Grayson starts taking things out, "Let's see I have a flint and steel, an Iron pot, some torches. Ah! Rope yes, I have some we can use. How should we tie him though?"

Aodan will retrieve his own rope and help Grayson trundle up the fallen Zilchus.

"Wish we had some 10' poles."

Spotting the crossed spears on the wall, he lets out an "Ah ha! Also looking over the various pieces of torture furniture and instruments sitting in this room, the Half-Elf tries to fashion some kind of makeshift stretcher (spears as carrying possible porter poles?) to help carry Zilchus back upstairs.

Zilchus drools.

Aoden puts together a make shift stretcher and using ropes they are able to lift Zilchus out of the ruined tower.

"The way I see it, these are our choices. We can take him to the inn and try to scrounge a place to see if he can get over this with a good night's sleep. We can go see the Lady whats her name and see if she has anything that can help. Or we can go to, what was it we passed? Xemnes Tonics? And see if they'll give us anything on credit. Unless someone else has some gold to pay for things? I'm open to other suggestions as well, if anyone has any?" "We could go back to the Lady."

A conscientious liege would want to know about the evil left behind tainting her land. While the rebellious Baron might have lived a long time ago, evil clearly related to his ignoble reign still permeates the long-forgotten dungeon below, be it in the form of devlish pest or unsettled spirits or worse.

"She might give us somethin' for what we figured out so far."

Any idea on whether the Lady would be noble and dutiful enough to assist a partially completed mission, or whether she is craven and would refuse to reward until the investigation is more complete?

He shrugs. "We could always sell Zilchus' stuff to the shop in exchange for a tonic."

I didn't want to have to do this...but it looks like I'm going to have to pull out the rules...

Recovering with Help:

One hour after a tended, dying character becomes stable, the character must make a DC 10 Constitution check to become conscious. The character takes a penalty on this roll equal to his negative hit point total. Conscious characters with negative hit point totals are treated as disabled characters. If the character remains unconscious, he receives another check every hour to regain consciousness. A natural 20 on this check is an automatic success. Even if unconscious, the character recovers hit points naturally. He automatically regains consciousness when his hit points rise to 1 or higher.

I think it's been at least one hour...though it seems like Zilch has been out for a week...;)

It is dark out by the time the party enters the inn. The common room is packed as most of the villagers have gather to discuss the fallen tower and what the appearance of kobolds might mean for the town. No one seems to notice as they drag the unconscious Zilchus over to a table and prop him up in a chair. Shortly after Zilchus wakes up the owner of the inn makes it over to the table. "Back already? I heard the Baroness hired you to investigate the tower. Any luck with...." she looks over at Zilchus, "Oh my he doesn't look to good does he? I think I better have Xemne take a look at him. She runs the local apothecary."

"You guys didn't look in this, did you?" Zilch carefully looks inside, making sure no one else can see what is therein. "Cuz it's my backpack...not yours. You shouldn't be looking in other people's backpacks."

Sczarni

"The Baroness? Probably up at her place given that it is night and all. I'll be right back with Xemne." The inn keeper makes her way to the other side of the room and speaks with a middle aged woman with dirty blonde hair. The two return to the parties table and the middle age woman introduces herself, "Good evening my name is Xemne and from what Talia tells me you had a rough time exploring that tower. Any noble liege needs to understand the centers of power, current and former, to truly protect their lands, their charges, their house, and should want to know this.

"But yeah, with some tonic, could go back and finish." It's usually much more advantageous to understand the nature of any threat, especially if it is immediately below one's feet!
