The old man takes a long draw from his pipe. "Can't say I know exactly where the wolves be, haven't had the nerve to trackem myself." He scratches his head for a moment, "though if I was to track them I'd probably start where them vultures been circling the last few days. Shouldn't have trouble spotin em if ya head north on Devy road."
Zilchus Lyghtlode |
"Devy Road, huh?" Zilch looks to where the man indicates. "Vultures, huh?"
"Don't you worry, my friend. I'll take care of it," Zilch nods, assuring the man that he'll handle the task.
Zilch turns to look at Eugene, Aodan, & Davros.
"Let's go, men," Zilch marches off. "If you guys think I'm good inside killing kobolds, you ain't seen nothing yet. We'll find them wolves quickity."

Eugene tries not to interfere with the bargaining, though he does step in when the deal is about to be finalised. Have we come to a mutual agreement, then, that our current party shall commit to the act of lupicide in return for 800 standard pieces of gold as well as the full extent of information in your possession on the location of the cave frequented by the late wizard Hunclay?
Eugene then turns to Zilchus I should warn you that the name Wolfsbane is already taken. I trust you to be versed in matters sylvan?
Eugene trusts that he is, and follows his guidance.
Aodan |
The half-elf will back up the garrulous one, ready to assist if necessary.
"Really? Better at other stuff than killin' 'bolds?" This I've got to see. How much more hot air will come out either end of this one?

GM Kyshkumen |
Following the road north it isn't long before the circling vultures are spoted. With the help of Aodan, Zilchus spots some human foot prints leading off the road in that direction. Following the tracks the travelers stumble on to a gruesome scene. Blood stains the dirt here and bits of bone and flesh seem to be all that is left of whatever was killed here. A low growl from the bushes is the only warning the wolf hunters get as three wolves step out into the clearing. One much larger then the other two, clearly the one the shepherd was talking about.
Will post init later, out of time this morning.

Appreciate the help, but more of an issue of looking up monster stats for init modifiers. I think you'll like my roll better anyway.

Updated hit points
Aodan feels threatened by the little wolf trying to pull him to the ground and the potential reach of the big wolf's snarling maw. He glances back, seeing a bit of space between Zilchus and the shadows, looking for a spot to get a safe shot at the big wolf (even if not totally clean).
Assuming the space behind Zilchus is big enough to fit Aodan and his shot (moved his token on the map):
Longbow (on big wolf): 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 14 (includes cover penalty)
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
If Aodan can't fit behind Zilchus, he will draw his short sword and slash at the smaller wolf that just attacked him.

Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Zilchus lands a heavy blow to the wolf as Eugene sends out a wave of healing energy. Zilchus now has one of the wolves undivided attention and it turn on him snapping it's jaws.

Feeling the pulse of healing energy from the fanatical contractor, the half-elf stands a bit taller. "Thanks, Eugene!"
Aodan will move out of the corners until he can get a clear shot at the wolf on Eugene, trying to assist the helpful channeler.

Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Trip: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
It takes another bite out of Eugene's leg and again fails to pull the warrior of Abadar down.

Davros Al-Assadsarenrani |
Davros glares as Zilchus delivers the killing blow.
Of course. The blowhard gets it. I wish that he would have been in position with his longspear when I attacked, maybe the wolf's attention would have been split - alas the beast closed the distance...
Most reach weapons double the wielder's natural reach, meaning that a typical Small or Medium wielder of such a weapon can attack a creature 10 feet away, but not a creature in an adjacent square.
The Qadiran eyes the field and carefully strides over the felled large wolf and hopes his presence will divert some of the remaining wolf's attention.
Double move to avoid AoO.

GM Kyshkumen |
Zilchus shows Davros something he already knows how to do, miss. It's Eugene that brings his mace down on the wolf's head, ending the fight.
Combat over.
With proper time to look around the group can see that the wolves had settled in here after taking down some large prey.
The small clearing borders a small shallow pond with a cave entrance on the other end.
Aodan |
Aodan examines the fallen lupines.
"Pretty impressive. Shouldn't be here, so close to town." Such a majestic creature should roam the wilderness and tangle with the denizens of the deep forest, not threaten a human settlement such as this.
Heal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
The half-elf points out the remains of the wolf's prey. "Looks like they took out a couple of humans."
As he examines the area, he handles the carcasses with appropriate care, with the thought of eventually preparing their hides for the reward.
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
The local might just want evidence that these fierce creatures are finished, rather than appreciate just how magnificent such a pelt could be.
"So - I'm guessin' this is Hunclay's dusty cave?"
Zilchus Lyghtlode |
Zilchus nods as the wolves are taken down.
"I'll get to pelting those after we deal with the cave," Zilch says, checking out the size of the wolf. "That was a big one, no doubt. No wonder they needed heroes like me to deal with it."
"Need help there, Aodan?" Zilch will help prep the pelt(s).
Take 10 Survival to aid Aodan.
Zilch goes to use the men's tree for manly reasons...and opens up his backpack for no reason at all while he's making like a bear in the woods.
Eugene Bely Prestor |
Heal check: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Eugene checks the remains, and remarks in a sad mod
A sorry sight, their operation disrupted. Who gains from their demise, and who loses? Who was short longevity, and who was long?
He then wonders where Zilchus went, then asks This man, is he canine-blooded? His tendency to mark territory by urination sure seem to indicate such...
Aodan |
"Ummm. Dog-blooded?" Well, he can be rather rambunctious, oblivious, sees the world through a set of narrow/self-focused blinders, self-important, and unashamed of bodily functions. Although I haven't seen him lick himself yet...
But he is also kind of loyal, dedicated, excitable, and oh yeah, rambunctious...
"Could be." It would explain the hirsute appearance on one so uncouth.
Once they have checked the caracasses, the human remains, and the area appropriately... Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Aodan will head towards the cave.
GM Kyshkumen |
Aodan finds nothing of value on the wolves or the human remains. Approaching the cave it looks like the small pond in front of the entrance is fed by some source with in the cave. The pond isn't to deep, maybe 3 or 4 feet deep.
Zilchus Lyghtlode |
"Ahhhh...quit your bellyachin'," Zilch pulls out a carrot and feeds it within. "This ain't nothing to be moaning about. You sound like Darkrose with all your cryin'. Just stick in the backpack and things will be fine. Trust me. I'm totally a hero now. Totally."
Zilch feeds the beast and then empties his bladder.
Do the others ever poop? Or pee? Never done see them relieve themselves once. They hold it all in, they do. No wonder Eugene talks so funny...he's literally full of s*@!. Lol...
Good one, Zilchus, good one.
I know. I'm you, remember?
Right.
Zilchus returns to the party, a few wet droplets down the front of his breeches.
"We ready to head into the cave?" Zilch asks Aodan, wondering about the state of the pelting. "I have a *VERY* weird feeling about this place. We should be extra careful."
It's clear from Zilchus' face that he either just passed a kidney stone in his pee or there is something wrong with the cave.
When others are ready to enter the cave, Zilch will Barkskin up. Then protection from evil.
GM Kyshkumen |
After securing the wolf pelts Aodan leads the way to the cave. Wading through the pond the wolf slayers enter the cave. The floor of the cave is about a foot deep with water, a small stream that feeds the pond out side. To the left is a small spring and the source of the water. To the right the tunnel goes on into darkness.
Moved everyone forward a bit. Going to need a light source to proceed, you may also cast additional spells or use items before continuing.
Aodan |
Aodan will cast light on his bow and hold it aloft. He will take a close look at the floor for signs of habitation before proceeding into further into the cave.
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
He will also cast Detect Magic before proceeding, peering into any shadows now uncovered by his cantrip.
Eugene Bely Prestor |
Taking the leadership of Zilchus to heart, Eugene casts Protection from Evil on himself, then readies his spear as he moves deeper into the cave, unsure whether the smell comes from the cave, or from Zilchus.
I shall remain taciturn so as to not provide audible cues to any potential foe. he whispers.
GM Kyshkumen |
Making their way further into the cave the air around them seems to get dryer as they go. Up ahead the shallow water ends at the entrance to a large chamber. The air is almost uncomfortably warm. Four chests sit at the far side of the cavern. The ceiling, studded with stalactites, is ten feet hight above the floor at the entrance. Movement to the right draws eye to a horrific crab like creature. It looks to be in rough shape, a few eyes still remain on it's legs, while others just have empty dripping eye sockets. What look to be a few blisters on it's back hold what look like human brains.
Davros: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
