Robert Smythe |
"Well, I'm fairly certain this bottle contains an elixir of vision, which would help greatly in searching... if we had anywhere else to search. Unfortunately I'm not sure what this other bottle contains... Anyone else?" He sets the two bottles down, looks around at the others, shrugs, and activates the lever.
Robert Smythe |
Hearing a noise behind him Robert quickly snaps his head in that direction. "Huh, so that's what the lever does..." He turns back to the others. "So, anyone else want to see what's behind the secret door?"
Robert Smythe |
After waiting to see if anyone else could identify the other bottle, Robert tosses the Elixir to Lucia. "Here, this will enhance your vision and help you spot things you might have missed otherwise. It should last for the rest of our time down here." He then stands and starts heading down the new hallway after making sure that everyone else was ready to follow.
GM Kyshkumen |
As Robert steps through the door he feels a small tug on his shin.
Ranged attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Followed by a sharp pain in his leg.
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Looking down it looks like a dart fired from a hidden trap and is now sticking out of the poor tieflings leg. After the initial pain fades it is replaced by and burning throb.
The dart was poisoned, I need a DC 18 fort save or take the following dex damage.
Dex damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Robert Smythe |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 +1 Fort, +2 poison resist
I'm going to use my reroll on that.
Fort reroll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27+1 Fort, +2 poison resist, +5 star bonus
"Gah! Damn it!" Robert grabs his leg in pain and gritting his teeth (again the slight screech of metal on metal) and yanks out the dart.
"That's what I get for not searching for traps in the secret hallway. Blast it!" He shakes his leg, getting used to the pain and rolls his eyes at the others. "Oops..."
He then takes a closer look down the hallway before continuing.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Looking for traps
GM Kyshkumen |
One of you, probably Robert moves down the hallway and opens the door. Inside cabinets with tow tall drawers each line the east and west walls of this room. A relief carving of a lion's head dominates the south wall, hanging imperiously over the low stone step. Six freestanding statuettes of lions in various poses stand atop the furniture.
Robert Smythe |
Striding into the room, Robert gives it a quick look before before setting in to looking for clues.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Hey, at least I might see that it's more than a room...
Knowledge History: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 8 + (2) = 12
Taalaako Hindjan |
"Well, looks pretty safe to me. Let's start searching this one!"
Linguistics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
I think I'll make use of the "Magical Assistance" clue to let me roll that again...
Linguistics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
A little better.
GM Kyshkumen |
That will be enough to get both clues out of this room. We'll just use enough people to get the time down.
Most of the party searches the room Robert is invigorated by a previous read and Taalaako activates a magical shelf to help organize the search. You were able to find some cryptic references that mention a silver horn and some notes some of the tactics the generals used against the armies of the Whispering Tyrant. Besides these clues room is full of files on Lion Blades both past and present. It is quite surprising how many are operating in the inner sea region and beyond. The other curiosity is the Lion head which appears to be a door, on the step below this door are four shallow cylindrical recesses. They look to be the same size as the base of the lion statues.
Vassago Ilsidore |
"Hmm... I believe there is something strange here, no?", Vassago looking a the recesses and the lion statues.
Any clues or markings on the statues, such as different shaped bases?
GM Kyshkumen |
The bases all look identical but the statues themselves all have a lion in a different pose.
- Crouches as if preparing to ambush it's prey
- Roaring as it leaps at prey
- Wears a yoke that is chained to a large block that the lion strains to pull
- Wears a tiny pair of spectacles and reads from an ornate scroll
- Draped in the flag of Taldor
- Sits erect and wears a crown.
Added the details from the clues to the campaign tab. More details about the horn and the city it is buried in.
Vassago Ilsidore |
"I presume there may be an order and process to placing statues along this baseline,", the ifrit pointing to the botton of the lion door.
"Similar to the scroll thing? Does anyone have insight on what to do here?"
Vassago Ilsidore |
Pointing a finger to tell Lucia to wait a second, Vassago modifies his inquiry. "Perhaps there are clues elsewhere? After all, the one to get into this secret library was provided by our sponsor, no?"
Taalaako Hindjan |
Tal tries to stop Lucia. "I wouldn't do that... there is definitely some sort of mechanism on that door, though I can't tell what it does. We should search for ideas on how to disable it before we continue."
Robert Smythe |
"Hmmm... This is a Lion's Blade library, correct? What do we know about these Lion Blades?"
Sorry, last couple of days have been full of game days and prepping for said game days (ran Bonekeep for first time last night :D). I personally usually enjoy puzzles, but this has me stumped without any other clues... :/
Robert Smythe |
So I've read through things twice, and seen nothing that I see helps here, so... anyone else have any ideas? The only thing I noticed was two portraits of of Stavian, but only two, and I have no idea what they'd go with anyway.
GM Kyshkumen |
Going to just give you both rooms and you can decide what you would like to do with them.
The southern room is a well-lit room and holds many chairs aligned towards tow giant chalkboards that hang on the north wall. Along the opposite wall, severl shevles hold books on sundy topics. Simple but colorful tapestries hang along the north wall, giving the room a bright appearance despite the lack of sunlight and the dour portrait of Grand Prince Stavian III is afixed to the south wall.
This is a small room if you choose the search it.
The northern room: This room's well-worn floor sets it apart from the others. The west wall is lined with shelves that support books, a variety of instruments, and dozens of rectangular baskets that contain loose sheaves of paper. Several chairs are pushed against the wall, and a portrait of the Grand Prince hangs to the east, surveying everything in the room with magisterial authority.
Medium room and you may use perform to search
Kyrie Medvyed |
"The Grand Prince certainly liked to make his presence known," Kyrie quips as she moves through the northern room, letting her feet find the grooves left by what must have been many, many people walking the same route time and time again over ages...
Perform (dance): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 FINALLY.
Vassago Ilsidore |
Perform: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
At least I aided you Kyrie :)
Vassago hums a few tunes while going through music books with the elf.
"Indeed... that makes, what four of these portraits?"
Kyrie Medvyed |
Kyrie whistles softly as she browses through the pages of a leatherbound book with almost reverential care. "Oh, that's very clever..." she murmurs, her voice trailing off as she continues to read until a stray thought causes her to blink. "... How's the time? How much longer do we have?" she asks.
