The desk and chests hold the notes of one Selmius Foster. A well known Pathfinder that was mentioned many times during training. Most of the notes are detailed accounts of his more infamous deeds. However there are a few notes regarding an investigation he had been pursuing before his death. See map for player handouts.
Pau |
"This has turned out to be quite a mission," the monk happily chirps. "We apparently have three options: the Wall of Names, Arkath the mason's mausoleum in the Ivy District, or Fembrik from the wizard's guild. Anyone have a preference?"
Binkbink Core Fuzzybrain |
Binkbink peers down the caves.
"Anyone else wonder where these go?"
"Doesn't matter, but perhaps we should close the openings."
"But then we won't get any more players for our game of tag."
"Yep Dorora and Pau tagged the last ones so well they stopped playing."
"Can we see if these smelly things have any other friends down there? Oooooooooohhhh, but I DO love mausoleums."
Talathel Haeelon |
Yes, it appears our quest has become more than a simple delievery.
Talathel says between his coughs.
Perhaps seeking out the mausoleum or the mage would be our first step.

According to Selmius Foster's notes the final resting place of Arkath is on a plot of land in the Eastgate district. This particular burial site is owned and maintained by the local church of Abadar and is well guarded by it's priests. While the gates remain open to allow people to pay their respects the priests keep a sharp eye out for grave robbers.
As the Pathfinders find themselves at the gates a lone priest patrols the grounds. He is armored in a breastplate with the key of Abadar proudly deplayed across his chest. A is buckler attached to one arm and a heavy mace swings from his belt.
Updated map.

"There's a priest over there. Shall we go talk to him?"
"I think letting us lead the party is crazy."
"Why? Isn't 2 heads better than 1?"
"Depends on the situation. In this case, let's just agree to follow someone ELSE'S lead."
Drognar RockGroin |
Drognar will approach with open arms.
"Greetings protector, let me assure you that we mean no harm, we merely wish to look at a certain tomb to help solve a mystery."
Drognar will look the man up and down, impressed by the muscles needed to effectively wield a heavy mace.
Pau |
"A mission for the Society leads us here. If you allow us to investigate we shall remember you in the journal."
GM Kyshkumen |
"Arkath, that would be the one on the northside. Again please do not try and force your way in. I am sworn to protect these holy sites."
-Posted with Wayfinder
Maximos Jax |
"Thank you! To the North side! I certainly will not be forcing my anything!", Says Maximus as he heads North muttering something about levers and forces, "the multiplication of force can be seen to arise from the equilibrium of torques, where an input force ... long lever arm ... balance a larger resistance force ..."
Binkbink Core Fuzzybrain |
"That guy needs some more time AWAY from dead people."
"Keep doing crazy things and those dead people MAY be us."
"Brother Maximos... You talk funny. I like it a lot. It's not Gnomish, what language is it?"
"It's not a language, he's speaking INTELLIGENTLY. It would be nice if we could do the same."
"Well perhaps you will teach me this fascinatingly silly dialect, sometime. Where's the dead guy we're looking for?"
Maximos Jax |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
"Nothing special about this ... sealed with a heavy stone slab ...", Maximus starts muttering about levers again, while he walks around the mausoleum looking for anything.
Maximos Jax |
As he walks around the mausoleum Maximos attempts to detect magic at frequent intervals.
When he gets back to the others, if he has not seen another way, "Well, the needs of the society and our mission supersede any duty that priest has. Knowledge is the greatest of enlightenment! I could attempt to put the guard to sleep, or we could confront him and I could overwhelm him with a spray of color ... or, hmmm ... perhaps I could create an illusion of the slab in place, when we remove the actual slab the priest will not be able to tell. Some of us would need to remain outside though to keep up the pretense ... we would only have one minute until my illusion dissipated."
Talathel Haeelon |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Hmmmm, nothing. We will have to get inside somehow. I would rather not do anything to the guard himself. Perhaps we can convince him to allow us inside. Either that or lead him away long enough for us to get inside and find what we need.
Pau |
"Maybe we could send the gnomes to distract the guard? They'd be pretty good at making him want to run away from his post."
Drognar RockGroin |
Drognar muses sarcastically Send the Gnomes... I'm sure that would work well...
"He does wear the livery of the toll-taker, perhaps a small toll will ease our way, I'll see if he can be convinced, if not, somebody should bop him over the head while I speak with him."
Drognar will head back over towards the guard.
"Greetings once again friend. We have a slight conundrum, while we have no intent of breaking the rules and entering the tomb, we do need to open the door, so that we might fully view the contents inside."
Drognar pauses a moment, says a silent prayer to Calistria and activates his bit of luck on himself.
"Could we perhaps make a... small donation... to help cover your costs of patroling."

+1 more if he is (or could be) sexually attracted to me.
Binkbink Core Fuzzybrain |
Binkbink takes his cue and speeds off to meet the priest. Making sure he positions himself with the priest inbetween himself and the party. Ensuring his head, if looking at Binkbink, is looking in the opposite direction from the tomb.
"Excuse me sire, this must be a tedious assignment. Would you care for a snack?"
"We've good some bread here in our sachel."
"I'm afraid I don't have a suitable wine to wash it down."
"Is this an assignment of prestige? Or punishment?"
"How long are you required to wander around here?"
GM Kyshkumen |
The priest strokes his chin at Drognar's proposition. "It isn't normal to let anyone enter, but I suppose a donation would smooth over any concerns my superiors might have."[b] He strokes his chin some more. [b]"Twenty gold and I insist on entering the tomb with you to make sure nothing is stolen or damage. I am also a bit curious myself now. Is this agreeable?"
He looks down and Binkbink, "I am sorry little one, but I am not permitted to take food and drink while I am on duty. My shift ends after four hours where I take in a meal and continues other duties at the temple."
Dorora |
Dorora, wants to just bust in the location, but she knows that is not the best idea. She impatiently awaits access to the required area. She checks her coin pouch for any spare gold to "donate" to the church.
Can chip in 5-10gp
Maximos Jax |
Maximus considers putting the whole diplomatic group to sleep ... twenty gold when we could have used a renewable resource! Should we have to put him down later we could always get our twenty gold back at least.
Maximus pulls out some gold, "Here's my three-point-three repeat share of the ... ahem ... payment."
GM Kyshkumen |
"Then we are in agreement." The priest says as he collects the coins. "Follow me and I shall open the way for you." The priest is able to move the stone slab out of the way with a bit of effort. Inside the walls are bare and there is a single sarcophagus resting on a stone altar. "I shall allow you to do the honors of finding any clues. I must admit this is a bit more exciting then pacing the grounds."
Pau |
I deducted 3.3 gold as well.
Pau takes a look around the chamber.
Since we had to pay our way in, let's take our time. He takes 20 for a 26 on the Perception check.
Pau |
Nothing bad can possibly come from this, right?
Pau reaches down and grabs the coin, interested to see what that might do. "I believe I might have discovered a clue!"
Talathel Haeelon |
Peering around the tomb and then at the coin, Tax begins to muse out loud.
Hmm, why would the mason have a coin like that?
Binkbink Core Fuzzybrain |
Binkbink chuckles softly, "He said DEAD end."
Shaking his head, "We are such a child sometimes."
"You see what he did there? The guy is dead. Dead end."
"Yes we get it. This is not the place to make jokes."
Binkbink casts detect magic.
"Let's see if it's worth more than face value."
"Finally, we are doing something to contribute to the investigation."
GM Kyshkumen |
Maximos does not find any hidden slots or circles, but the coin does radiate a magical aura when Mazimos casts his spell.

"Ahhh ... that's a Pathfinder coin. It likely has a message stored in it. We can listen to the message by placing it over a wayfinder. Do any of you have one? Janira Gavix, the Halfing I met back at the Wounded Wisp has one! She was quite proud of it. There is a high probability she would aid us in this quest as she was hoping to get a chance to use it. We should head back to the Wounded Wisp immediately before she leaves."
Maximos Jax |
"Most excellent! And to think I was going to put you to sle ... erm ... I mean ... and to think I was going to sleep today ... yes, that. Thank you kind guard, we will return this coin to its rightful place posthaste."
To the party ...
"I am anxious to see and document this coin perform its function back at the Wounded Wisp and fear the halfling's departure. However, it may be more efficient to visit the Wall of Names first, or the Arcanamerium if they are on our way."
