I didn't think you'd like it :P Let's start by rolling initiatives.

The way I see it, he is initiating by defying Rennyn and heading to the door - so the halfling is going first. He is a move action from the door. Would I be over stepping by calling this the end of the surprise round? Rennyn said he is putting his hand on his sword but not getting ready to run the man down. Another move action to close the door and lock it would take us to the end of the first round of combat provided he is ahead in the initiative. Rennyn is a full move action from the door so he'll be spending all of his first round just getting there but have nothing left to stop him. Charging or bull rushing will only be possible if Rennyn wins the initiative and we would resolve his action with the halfling inside the house and Rennyn outside the door and the door open. Does this sound fair?

If the others aren't posting, there is not much I can do. Rennyn can direct their actions though and I will puppeteer them :)

No it does not sound fair. :)

It would be fair if the imposter had been placed on the map.

It would be fair if we used initiatives to determine the order of actions once hostilities were likely.

It would be fair if you didn't arbitrarily write a surprise round (say what?!) into the narrative.

You asked. ;)

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

Hey, I'm not a fledgling for nothing :)

Honestly, I don't mind the corrections guys. Feedback is good. I try to keep my actions legit, but rules and such are your job. I have a contract! I won't want to proceed until I'm sure everything is on the level. As initiative should have been set prior to Walthus moving, we'll get that done right away.

The map showed how I thought things would progress according to the narrative, so I'd removed Walthus. I've reversed that so he's back now.

We'll keep the narrative as it, but retcon Walthus not making it to the house as stated...I seriously doubt he'll live that long anyway *sniff*

Note: I'll need to chat with the Lich later regarding determining when there is a surprise round.

I was under the impression that the first diagonal was 5' and all additional diagonals were 10' in a MA. I didn't realize that it reset after every 2 diagonals. So basically a diagonal is 7 1/2' and you pay the extra on the even numbered diagonal step? I can't believe I never noticed this before! I think I have been avoiding taking more than 2 diagonal steps for this reason. I wouldn't have moved in front of the door anyway.

Kenan: 1MA to draw bow. 1MA to AH 44.

The day is still young. The party left Sandpoint about an hour after sunrise. The walk to Brinestump is short, not more than four miles away, so an hours walk? Walthus' house is not as long in distance but because of the terrain, another hour from the road. Shall we say somewhere between 9 and 10 in the morning?

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

A little house keeping...your encounter with the Ugothol and rescuing Walthus has earned the party 1200XP. Divided four ways you each have 300XP.
REMINDER: Regular posting is expected in this forum. I know we are headed full steam into the silly season and it is not always easy to come up with a good post. However checking daily is still important. Your PC may have to respond to questions or combat may be immanent. I will try to give at least 24hrs for PCs to respond but I don't want to kill momentum by waiting too long. Failure to post will leave you out of the action and any claim to items or wealth. As Fenra has declined the pack, and Kenan and Jeryn have remained silent, it is now Rennyn's to do with as he pleases. Go ahead and put on your shades Paladin :)

I like that idea. Did a quick search on creating macros for this forum...came up short :( Other than the obvious, manually create it under CampInfo then copy and paste as needed, do you have any tips to set up macros?

ShortKeys

This program lets you set up macros for text replacement. The free lite version (download link above) lets you create 15 macros. Give it a try and if you like it and find you need more than 15 you will have to buy the full version. ($25 ish)

Simple to use. Once you define a macro in shortkeys, you need only type something like //mminit to get the following to auto populate:

initiative (monster): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20
initiative (Mus'ad): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
initiative (Ahkenaten): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
initiative (Kheled): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
initiative (Pherenike): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
initiative (Elrisiel): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
initiative (Myron): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

There are several tied for initiative up next. Is it appropriate to let the creature go first or the players?

I texted you the answer to that question yesterday, before you even asked it. :)

In the case of ties, you act in the order of highest Init modifier. So the creature goes first and then Rennyn and then Jeryn.

Hey guys, sorry about that energy missile. I have bought a lot of the pathfinder stuff through the hero lab client. When I mouse over it, it says it comes from 1001 spells. Does that mean anything that comes from 1001 spells is invalid? I'd be happy to copy over my spellbook or something to the profile but I'm not sure how. I don't even remember how I exported my profile to paste it in...

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

Don't fret over it Jeryn - I've made that mistake too! I'm no herolab expert, but you can always update your profile manually; there shouldn't be that many spells to copy :) Try to create a spoiler inside your profile window. If you label it "SpellBook" it'll be easier to find.
Does anyone else have some tips to help?

I will when I get home later.

For HeroLab and 3rd party products, you can go into the "Character" dropdown, and then "Configure Hero". Or just Ctrl+K. In that window, on the right is a whole list of options. Scroll down and make sure that 3pp like 1001 spells is unchecked. Everything between "Frog God Games/Necromancer Games" and "Jade Oath" should be unchecked.

That being said, players are always welcome to ask for exceptions. Just be ready for the DM to say no. :)

As for getting your spellbook from HL to the forums, it is rather complicated and still requires heavy typing and editing.

You go into "File" and select "Print Preview". Click on "Dossiers" and select "Spells in Spellbook - Summaries". Your print preview will now be showing your spellbook. Click the "Save the Document to PDF" icon in the upper left and save your spellbook. (You may be prompted to load the KL pdf plugin using the regular update mechanism. It is on the list.) You then open the PDF and cut and paste. Your formatting will not transfer so no bolding etc will happen. That is the editing I mentioned earlier.

Hope that helps!

Good luck! :)

I am really sorry to do this to you but I clearly just do not have enough time to maintain any semblance of regular posting. It is not fair to all of you that make consistent effort to contribute to the game to constantly be "that guy" who is always having to be chased down. ~Half-orc Fighter 8~ Perc +16 (+2 init) AC 26 HP 132 Fort +16 Ref +13 Will +14 (bravery) PATHBUILDER Link

Still working on things, but my initial thinking is that given he has the "loner" drawback, he keeps to himself and the woods a lot. He has met and befriended Shalelu, assisting each other in keeping the goblins in check. He could encounter the party here in the swamp, while he himself is hunting goblins, and having Shalelu having asked him to keep an eye out for the group.

The party may have heard of him, maybe even met him in passing before, but he wouldn't be friends with any of them.

You guys should start adding the round # to your posts to avoid confusion. You can also keep track of things in your post. (Like the number of force bolts cast today.) You then just reply to your own last post and edit it to reflect the current round and new totals. It's what I do. :)

~Human Evoker (lvl 4)~ Perc +7 Init +1 AC 19 (15+4 mage armor) HP 25 Fort +2 Ref +2 Will +4 CMB +2 CMD 17

Yeah that's a great call. I've started to keep track in my posts in order to prevent having to scroll back each time and manually count the bolts. I'll do the same thing for spells that have a certain duration of rounds too, i.e. round 1/7, round 2/7. Thanks great idea.

Here is a sample post from my sorcerer Kip:

Round 3 Init 14

Kip dashes towards the others (MA to G/50) and summons another pit, this time to the south. (SA cast create pit, J-K/50-51, DC 18, 30' deep)

Current status & effects:
AC: 20 HP: 60 of 62
Cast by Kip:
mirror image (2 images) expires round 31
create pit B-C/53-54 expires round 11
create pit J-K/50-51 expires round 12
Cast by others on Kip:
inspire courage (Cas)
haste (Cas)

~Human Evoker (lvl 4)~ Perc +7 Init +1 AC 19 (15+4 mage armor) HP 25 Fort +2 Ref +2 Will +4 CMB +2 CMD 17

Good idea, then you just copy and paste that block each time and don't even have to change the duration.

Also do evokers scale well? I understand mages doing little damage early on but I know in some games they are better off using disabling/buffing abilities rather than go for flat out damage that is better dealt by fighters. This applies in both low levels and high levels. I just really, really want to throw fireballs around...like....lots of them... I guess the low damage is at least consistent (auto hit) which is nice. Maybe next combat I'll try summoning a monster and see what that's like.

Pathbuilder link Perception +13| AC 24| Fort +14| Ref +12 |Will +17

Basically when you withdraw you can't do any other action but move out of a threatened square; it is a full round action and you don't provoke the attack of opportunity from that threatened square. You can't go running a gauntlet though and avoid all aoo.

Not sure about evokers must be a new class and I haven't even read about it. I can't even find it defined online?! Fireballs are a few levels higher. Just make sure we are out of the way before you start throwing them :) Summon monster is ok but takes a full round to cast which means it doesn't appear until your next turn, which I always thought was a bummer.

An Evoker is a wizard who has specialized in the school of evocation. :)

Sorry I forgot to respond to your post earlier Mathew. I will post up some advice for you later (tomorrow). Right now I need sleep. ;)

While we're here, there is a slight problem with the doors that I have overlooked and did not realize until the lord tapped me on the shoulder. By then it was too late to pull the post and I had to race to work :(
The problem is, they are double doors opening outward over a span of 4 squares. This is not realistic. HERE is a view with no special effects. Had I been on the ball, only two squares would be used as the doorways. But that would make the village cramped and I wanted to have lots of space for the party to move around. Anyways, that's the mess. Having had to think about it all day, I'd like to offer up a couple of suggestions to try and correct it.
First is to change the doors to more accurately represent the space. This would add a 5ft north facing wall at either side of the doors. The doors would be in the center of the building, facing north and opening outwards. With Draeven's current position, only one door would be able to open, Tug's positions would change and Tug's attack would be void.
The second option would be to allow Tug to squeeze through and give Draeven an AoO. Once again, the second door would remain closed as Gibber and Draeven stand in the way and the other goblins inside would have to retcon part of their actions. If I understand correctly, in either option, Dmoron will have to force the door and succeed at an opposed Strength check.
So those are my thoughts. Please let me know your opinions so we can clear this up, retcon some actions and move on.

~Half-orc Fighter 8~ Perc +16 (+2 init) AC 26 HP 132 Fort +16 Ref +13 Will +14 (bravery) PATHBUILDER Link

Either option is fine with me. I'll post an AoO for Draeven and you can decide from there.

-small diamond (worth 50gp)

Sinspawn
-150 xp each
-23 cp
-greatsword
-wooden lockbox
-spellbook

Goblins (draeven's ambush and entry)
-102 xp each?

Licktoad village
-1058 xp each
-5 +1 arrows of animal bane
-2 potions of clw (1 used on gibber)
-chain shirt
-spear
-composite bow
-32 gp
-bolt of fabric
-chest worth 150 gp
-6 shurikens
-329 sp
-112 gp
-hairpin worth 150gp (in fenra's hair)
-fan worth 80gp (used to keep fenra cool)
-map of brinestump

I was just trying to find out how much xp we have. Do we split the gold evenly? Do we need to decide what we are selling and what we are keeping?

~Elf Champion (Paladin) 8~ Perc +11 (+2 to init) AC 28 HP 110 Fort +14 Ref +12 Will +13 PATHBUILDER Link

Everything should be totalled up and split evenly. Items claimed count against shares (possibly future shares) and then everything else should be sold and the gold divided. Consumables (ie potions, scrolls, wands, etc) should go into the party fund and not count against shares.
