For clarification, they bull rushed me not tried to grapple, correct?
It is moot given they succeeded, but in the event they (or someone else medium sized or up) attempts to grapple and fails I get a free trip attempt on them (with a further +2 bonus) as an immediate action thanks to the Over and Under feat I took.
Also for further clarification, will I have to move next round in order to let the rest of our cavalcade of misfits up the ramp, or could I safely take a full round action while letting them past me?
So far things have been enjoyable, so looking forward to it.
DM Deevor |
Yes Maurie, Bull Rush, I did see your super trip stuff...
The others can move through you without penalty, or be on the square and be squeezed. There is one square, you can move through onto the roof, but it will attract AoO.
DM Deevor |
Under my name you see Giantslayer Slides, click on that and you get to the maps and other pictures. You should be able to move your token. If you miss the giantslayer slides, you might get the Strange Aeons Slides ... whoooa .. scary scary scary ...
DM Deevor |
I will take Brin's prepared action tomorrow morning, if we don't hear from him. (Saturday UK)
Maurie Wyssal |
Think you are up Davian, then Crom and Maurie. Not positive though.
DM Deevor |
Good to have you back Brin, hope work went well in SF.
You can post in any order, I will try and keep things in init order if there are conflicting actions. It was just this time, I thought it important to get Brin's action in because of Cromwin's fall.
I will always resolve the characters in round order, so a character on round 1, will go before a character in round 2. At least I'll try that.
DM Deevor |
Wait for the magic to happen, will post regardless on Monday .. if no further actions.
DM Deevor |
Did I miss the orc? Also note that Brin goes before me on initiative, and I will accept his raging song, so I should get bonuses for that.
Sorry it wasn't clear, so much going on, with Cromwin and stuff ...
Yes you hit and I have added your spirit attack to the round too ... see reworded post ...DM Deevor |
Thanks.
I personally didn't want to move forward because I assumed Brin would take a step SE, Davian a step NE, and Cromwin would move to the space which Davian had taken, thus protecting Davian more.
That's what I did do, it provokes an AoO from the orc you are fighting, passing through Norrick's square. Cromwin would do that, relying on his high AC, unfortunately it didn't work out for him ...
Like I said I was debating what to do, and decided this was in character with you bunch of heroes, and with Cromwin's leadership being in the thick of it. It's tough in war and this is very tough. It's exciting!!!
Could all rest on the saves ....

So work computers and google drives don't play friendly it seems, so will be a little bit before I can access the map. Is there anyone Maurie is in range of for her ranged weapon? Range is 20 feet for reference.

Here are your options,
Take a 5ft step but still be in reach a badly injured orc's AoO
Delay after your boys have a go at the orc, it might fall, then shoot.
Ready an action to hit the spellcaster/an orc, if they perform an action, spell etc.
Alternatively, do some hitting, because of the confusion with you and you not seeing the battle map, which at the moment is pretty important. You can either have in your hand a ranged or melee weapon. So you can choose what's best for what you want to do.....

... I can't believe I forgot the spirit roll. Thankfully it didn't matter. :)

sometimes even the GM despairs at the player rolls .... you know you should be rolling d20s not d10s ... :-(

Yeah, the dice have been hating me in my games the last couple of days... hopefully Maurie survives long enough to get benefit from luck reversal later.
Brin of the Hearth |
Brin may have rolled low for the last time!
Well, I'm glad I've been rolling a lot of different characters lately in preparation for my investigator to die in my Friday night "Mummy's Mask" game. He's already been afflicted with a "kiss" from a Vargouille. He survived but is still disgusting looking from the first few hours of transformation, so he now wears a head scarf to cover his elf ears turned bat wings.
DM Deevor |
Not that it helps, but my characters are all rolling rubbish at the moment ...
...it might start to infect my GM rolls on this game ...
As for you Brin ... this fight is easily winnable, if you make the right decisions ... and I don't see you dying here ... really I think you should survive.
Davian Grallus |
A good and challenging CR match should have us almost at a draw between NPC / Enemies and players.
It's not often I get a combat that isn't completely violently favored to one side or the other- as a GM, I struggle with it all the time myself.
This combat, however, seems pretty well done. I'll have to take notes from you DM Deevor xD
DM Deevor |
Maybe easily winnable is a bit of an exaggeration, but it is definitely dooable.
Lets hope that by the end of the fight, you are all here to fight another day ...
I take it as a real compliment Davian, we can discuss the fight after.
Maurie Wyssal |
Roflstomps are never fun either direction, although it can be hilarious sometimes when really low level enemies think they are the next big bad and try take on PCs 6 levels higher than them.... Goblins come to mind in that regard (but it typically has to be framed in a semi comedic way to work).
On the plus side the Orc leader should be a bit less smug now that I bloodied his nose. On the negative side he is likely to start focusing on me and my 7 hp now.... joy! (Grok, wake up already!)
DM Deevor |
Grok is now awake .... it was a good kick Norrick ...
DM Deevor |
A good kick indeed. Do I still have my shield attached to me or did it fall off when I fell asleep?
It would have fallen off ... sleep, like unconscious but without the hit point loss ;-)
DM Deevor |
@Grok, dagger damage wouldn't make any real difference to the fight, so we continue on. Glad you were woken .. :-)
Having weekend away this weekend, so expect to next update on Monday.
P.S. Hope Cromwin is watching the fight and not letting his armour get rusty while lying on the ground...
Norrik Spinson |
Feels weird doing a melee attack as a wizard... but it was that or a crossbow or Ray of Frost. And, Norrik's falchion is masterwork (family weapon), he's got Str 13, and with his mage armor AC 16, which isn't great, but at level 2 isn't horrible. So, hopefully Norrik doesn't die for his foolishness.
Davian Grallus |
Next week / this coming Monday to Thursday, I'm going to be on a little vacation + job interview in South Carolina. (way out of my state)
I'll only be able to post on my phone, which is just an "ugh" process, so please, feel free to insta bot me to keep things moving along!!!
Maurie Wyssal |
Nice, good luck Davian! Weather in this part of the world has been fluctuating between warm and cold on about a two day rotation, so pack some short sleeve shirts and a warm jacket. (I'm up in southern Virginia, so I imagine the weather is a bit better further south.)

No kidding! I'm coming from Michigan down to S. Carolina! I've got a sweatshirt packed :P other than that, I'll be in dress clothes for the three days!
DM Deevor |
Well done, the fight ended quickly once Grok got his eye in ... :-)
I enjoyed that, I hope you did too.
In the book, it's a fight for 4 level 2 characters, and you are up against 3 orc warriors and Kagak.
As there were 6 of you, and you had two level 3 characters in the party, I gave you 2 extra orcs to deal with. The book didn't really explain how you get up between the floors, so I guessed it was either a trapdoor to the side and the nice stone staircase up and around the inside of the building, or it would have been a ladder up to a trapdoor in the middle of the roof. Either way it made it a difficult approach for you. Thanks for your play in making the stairway/trapdoor work, it was more difficult to explain in pbp than I expected, or as I saw it in my minds eye. Your patience and going along with that was very much appreciated by me, so you all get special thanks from your GM for that.
