Hah, I just wasted my first 20 on hearing a muttering.

But on the plus side, my first roll was a 20, which may bode nice things for this scenario.

Also, it was really hard to keep my own snark in check with the weather comment.

"It is currently mostly cloudy with 59% humidity and a dew point of 50°. Current temperature is 64°F and we can expect rain later in the night. Tomorrow and the day after is forecasted to continue with rain and the occasional thunder but will soon clear up to clouds and a sunny weekend."

my rolls were terrible. If that is a foreshadow of things to come I am doomed.

Grand Lodge

You used a d10 for your sleight of hand... that never helps.

Hey, that means nothin'. You could have better rolls later! Just like I could have really bad ones later.

Also, Helaman, I do not actually speak Chinese so I'm not sure what your character just said aside from what Google Translate told me but it gives out a vague translation.

I got the pinyin and the tones from Googling for them. XD 'Nice to meet you' was luckily a common enough phrase to have the toned version.

I think there are online pinyin translators that would do it for you and similar software, but I'm not familiar with them. If you like, I could ask a friend about them. It would also be useful for my character anyhow.

To change the 'Spoiler' text, do it like this:

[ spoiler=Language]Text
Where you replace 'Language' with the name of the language you're speaking in and 'Text' with the translation.

So inputting:

[ spoiler=Tien] This is the Tien translation.
Would give:

Tien:
This is the Tien translation.

There's an example of it in the 'How to format your text' thing.

I have never played an RPG that wasn't a video game before so I am not very familiar with the mechanics of how they work. I was guessing on those rolls. I didn't know if they were needed or if I was rolling them correctly.

the taking 10 and taking 20 rules in the book confused me. I read them again and they make more sense now.

Very cool to see you picking it up so quick. I'm only a about a year in myself to this particular edition of the "world's oldest RPG", and I'm still constantly referencing the rulebooks. But I'm really rather lazy, honestly.

And yes, the assery will come later. When there are lives on the line and the stakes are sky-high.

I'd have picked you as Cha 8 with your general lack of personability (if there is such a word) but you are Cha 10 so I guess its a bad day or something :)

Actually characters can be surly and bad tempered with Charisma 18 - they just are very impressive no matter what they do. In general I tend to see ppl play Cha 8 as bad tempered is all. Its good to see it as an actual RP trait instead off something being played to support the stats.

Kip, seems to be something missing here in Ambrus Valsin's speech:

" Here are all the details, including .

I'll wait on clarification.

Anders, just something you shouldn't do:

Anders Grimmbraid wrote:
He plucks the envelope out of hijikata's hands as he walks past, before he has a chance to resist.

Don't assume that he doesn't have a chance to resist. You shouldn't assume the action of someone else. Similarly, you also shouldn't assume the outcome of actions since you might actually have failed to grab it.

What is recommended is to simply describe your intention of an action. That is to say, you intend to grab the envelope out of Hijikata's hands before he can resist.

Then, you have to describe what you'll do if you succeed (or fail). It's usually done in another post (especially when the person you're acting on is another player), but you can sometimes include it in the original post.

You also might have to make a roll to determine the success of your action. If you know what to roll, then just roll it immediately (like if you want to notice something, you know that you have to roll perception). If you don't know what to roll, then ask the GM.

The person you're acting on may also get a roll to react against your action so it's always, always better not to assume what another will do unless it's already been agreed upon beforehand.

This is all up to the GM, however.

Oh, and if you haven't seen it yet, there's a handy guide to Play-By-Post (PBP) gaming which includes what I said here.

Andoran

male Fighter lvl 1

Right. understood. I would delete it but I can't.

Andoran

male Fighter lvl 1

So what do we do now? I tried to create a situation where we could move forward and all the characters would have access to the information in the envelope with out having to wait for Hijikata or Hekra to have time to post what they were going to do. At the last GM post we were all in the office and Hijikata had the envelope. Rashly said my post doesn't work which is fine. So if we ignore my post and ignore that Hijikata had the envelope. Then Hekra has just opened the envelope and we are waiting on him to tell us what we have to do. Is this where we are at, because I am confused and could use someone with more experience to clear things up.

Silver Crusade

Female Elf Wizard

sometimes you just have to wait in PbP. As soon as the holder of the note reads it, we are good to go.

Three of you are trying to take the envelope, so any of the three can read it aloud I suppose. Or you can wait for Kip to say who has said letter, and then that person can read it aloud.

As a side note, I think the tasks should be done more or less in the order listed.

Starting in Foreign Quarter:

1) Books Mission (Start in Docks, to Unknown) This is adjacent to the Foreign Quarter, I suggest we start there and work North, then back to Pathfinder HQ in the Foreign Quarter. The object sought is almost certainly somewhere between the Docks and the Wise Quarter.

2) Delivery (Ascendent Court to Unknown) Adjacent to the Wise Quarter, may as well complete on the way north.

3) Permission (Start Wise Quarter, presumably ends in Wise Quarter) is on the path from the Ascendent Court to the Ivy District, makes sense to do this one third...

4) Retrieve Item (Start Ivy District, presumably ends in Ivy District) adjacent to the Foreign Quarter, which puts us near Home.

5) Back in Foreign Quarter to drop off items and completion notes as we pass through on the way south to the Docks again to drop drop books. Thus would complete a lap of Absalom, center of the world...

Do we have coaches in Absalom by the way? Or some other sort of transportation?

Yes. <Axe Beak> and Camel drawn coaches are readily available and fairly cheap, costing only 1cp for a short journey

Someone had a pony tied up outside? Wonder if the centaurs have eaten it?

So do we leave our packs and supplies at the lodge or take them with us. some of the stuff in mine might be useful, but realisticly I wouldn't want to lug it all over the city if there was someplace safe to leave it. Especially since the tasks we have been given don't look too dificult.
I missed that bit about the centaurs. Don't know why someone would choose a pony to ride when they could have a dog to ride.

Silver Crusade

because a riding dog costs 150gp, and we start with 150 gp... I wanted clothes and stuff...

Andoran

That is true. I didn't even look at what ponies cost and I assumed they were similarly priced.

Busy weekend. I visited my parents (they live two hours away), went to a kids birthday party and finally fixed the family cars A/C fan... It only took the two hour drive with me driving today to convince me to fix it. My wife has been putting up with no Air con or heater all winter... Whoops :S

Wow, does sound real busy. (I just stayed at home myself. :P) Hope the visit and party went great! And, uhh, totally feel you on the waiting-until-you've-experienced-it-for-yourself-to-do-anything-about-it bit. Haha.

Sorry guys, I'm not waiting on anyone i was just to busy to post last night. I'll move the game forward tonight. I'm happy to give Galia the benefit of the doubt for the moment.

Still here. Posting when there's action to respond to.

Andoran

not even an acrobatic check? I would have thought at least that one since you described it as a small ledge.

By the acrobatics rules a 1-3 ft ledge has a Dc of 5 but there is an asterisk next to it referring to a rule that states that unless other modifiers increase the dc above 10 no check is required. The only modifier that could posibly apply (in my judgement) is the +2 for being wet. Though I don't think it would be too wet as the warehouse is 15ft above the water. Even then the Dc is only 7.

I am judging the ledge to be about one foot. The scenario doesn't call for a check so neither am I.

By the way I'm not cross or grumpy at your question feel free to ask questions any time and don't worry there's plenty of dice rolling to come :)

Can I get an update on everyone's position in the map before I take action? How far away Azeban is from someone else determines what he does.

Can I assume that I was carrying the net and the coils of rope when battle started since they looked useful? Possibly they're just lying within reach on another crate or something, but I wanted to use them for a combat maneuver. Or, actually, just throw the net at the rat. Is the net folded or unfolded?

It's plausible that you would have unfolded it to check its usefulness and perhaps tucked it under your arm as you continued opening crates... Go for it!
