"Only one left." she says, half to her allies, half to the demon infesting Hulrun. She purses her lips when Ehren seems to flail about randomly. She's going to have to figure out what Desna has against the poor Kellid.

"Just try to avoid the bones, focus on the beast and its mobility. It's just a body at this point." Companion Bond: Hulrun

Radiance Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 9 + 2 + 2 = 18 DEMONS, FIERCE (I think that hits, it's 4 better than the flat footed hit was)
Radiance Damage: 1d8 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 10 DEMONS, FIERCE

She moves forth, and spirits high, manages to land a swift blow, but just barely, with a diagonal swing towards the beast's throat. The last time she felt this competent in combat was when Markus had... borrowed... her fear.

Lonely Hinagiku:

4921 mentally counted Hinagiku upon finishing her braid. Meditation, through braiding, like her master had taught her, was the only thing that had kept her sane in the last few days. Without the calming ritual, she would likely have given to despair by now. I cannot lose my will now, for am I Annabelle’s “senpai”, I must do the right thing. Even to the very end. she told herself before opening her eyes to look at the girl and making sure that she was still breathing. Catching a glimpse of the monstrous flies, Hinagiku quickly closed her eyes in disgust. Did I really catch sight of the keys? I shall remember. she ordered herself before starting to undo her braid.

Val steps forward and stabs at the demon again. Her blade whips through the air with unerring precision, driving deep into the demon's flesh.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Valaria nicks a large artery in the demon's own flesh - a substance black as tar begins to ooze out from"Hulrun"'s stomach, as if he were the one bleeding. The worm shrieks horribly, exploding out from Hulrun's body and slithering away past Ehren. Ehren swings at it as it moves past, but doesn't kill it.

With triple time Isilme quickly catches up with the fleeing worm and carves a weal into its flesh. Then, with a flourish, she concludes her performance.

Markus is up.

Hinagiku:

One of the demonic flies buzzes over to the door and uses a deformed hand to lock it. It then crawls onto the ceiling, staring at the door intently. The other two swarm and fly about randomly.

Buffs | Char. Sheet |

Hinagiku:

Is that a normal action for the creatures, have they done it in the past? Also, when I have questions like that, I ask them in the gameplay thread or the discussion one?

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Hinagiku:

Gameplay, to make it easier for me to know what you're talking about (sometimes the threads move at different speeds).

It is unusual for the fly to take an interest in the wooden door. There are two doors in your room - a stone one and a wooden one. The stone one leads out into a big hallway, you were brough through it conscious. You don't know what is the purpose of the wooden one. You have never seen it opened.

Buffs | Char. Sheet |

Hinakgiku:
Are her hands bound in front or behind her?

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Hinagiku:

Behind.

Her legs are bound in a way that she could get up and move around at half-speed. She is not tethered to anything.

Being able to get the file onto her person and begin chipping away at her wrist manacles was a feat of dexterity. I imagine she has it tucked into her pants or something, but it is up to you.

Buffs | Char. Sheet |

Hinagiku:

As the buzzing and movement of the flies intensified, Hinagiku has to breathe deeply to keep her calm and prepare herself to look at the horrors flying around. Slowly opening her eyes, she takes in the scene. So much activity, locking the door… what is happening? … No matter, time to use the file. Taking advantage of the noise and the sudden activity of the monsters, the Tian woman tilts her head back to let her hair fall and hider her hands. With both the corner of the room at her back and her hair hiding her hands, Hinagiku feels confident enough to reach for the inside of her sleeve and extract the file from its fold. To help cover the sound of the filing, and to keep herself calm, she starts chanting a mantra. Based on her previous attempts at filing the manacles, she makes the chant soft enough to avoid undue attention, but loud enough to cover some of the noise she is making.

"Ohmmmmmmmmmm.... Ohmmmmmmmm"

Sense Motive: are the flies afraid?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
If the noise is not enough to cover the filing, Hinagiku will not risk it!. lol, now that I know her hands are bound in her back, I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to braid her hair!

Markus uses the wand that's in his other hand and points it at the Hulrun vermlek. He's not going to let it get away, if the wand will actually work for once.

He is surprised that the creature didn't just gut him, though. A wizard with a dagger in melee combat is usually such an enticing target...

Combat ends after 6 rounds.

Irabeth wipes her blade off on her cape. "Right. Let's move. Are we going to attempt to move through the front doors, or what? What was that about a scale?" She looks at Ehren.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Hinagiku:

Hinagiku cannot tell if the flies are afraid - their faces are permanently affixed in the same horrified expression no matter what. Though one of the flies is distracted - staring at the door, the other two flies angrily lunge at Hinagiku when she begins to meditate.

Markus isn't feeling too great. He is feeling feverish, and weak all of a sudden.

Markus is a trained doctor, so he easily self-diagnoses himself with Filth Fever - he was swarmed with a hoard of rats a few days ago, after all.

"Damn..." mutters Markus - he coughs and stumbles a bit, and feels his face for the characteristic searing skin. "Hang on a sec."

He grasps his own chest and channels restorative magic, attempting to repair his damaged body just enough to keep going. It won't affect him for another day, so if the damage isn't enough to do anything then he doesn't need to worry about it right now.

Lesser Restoration (Con): 1d4 ⇒ 2

Perfect, he feels just better enough to keep fighting with no ill effects. Unfortunately, demon bodies are not applicable for raising of their bodies, so he'll have to wait on getting a few helpers for now.

Two 2nd-level spells remaining today.

"Ehren and I have scales - from Terendelev - that allow us to use levitation magic. If we use all of the magic from both scales, all six of us can ascend to a higher floor without going in through the front door. This, of course, has benefits and dangers - there will be enemies behind us but they'll be less prepared to fight us."

She looks up at the gap, thinking for a moment. "I generally approve of taking the sneaky way in. And catching the demons by surprise could be helpful. Let's get someone up there and try to take a peak inside. If it looks too dangerous, we can still try the front door afterwards."

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

"Okay. Who is the quieter of you two?" Irabeth asks of Isilme and Valaria.

Once I get a volunteer we'll execute this plan.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Valaria takes a charge from Ehren's scale, since he was the one who brought the scales up in the first place.

Valaria reaches the shutter and finds it very small - she has to squeeze to get through. It is good that Hrut did not come - there was no chance he could have fit inside such a small space.

Valaria:
She peeks into a small room with many iron cages hanging from the ceiling. To her left is a wooden door. There is no one in this room that she can see.

Hinagiku, Perception DC 21:

You can hear noise coming from through the door, a faint rustling.

Fly perception 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Fly perception 3: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

The flies all hear it too.

Hinagiku:
The flies buzz around angrily, getting more and more agitated. They appear distracted - a successful stealth check (with a +5 circumstance) vs their perception will allow her to sneakily get free of her bindings, but is it worth the risk?

Female Tiefling (Pitborn) Bard (Weapon Champion) 9/Champion/Trickster 3 | HP: 97/114 | AC: 25, Touch 18, Flat-Footed 19 | CMD: 26 | Fort: +10, Reflex +13, Will: +10 | Init: +6 | Perception: +16, Darkvision 60 ft. | Performance: 18/24, Shatter: 1/1, Lore Master: 1/1, Mythic Power: 6/9

Val ascends slowly, not quite comfortable with the feeling of walking on clouds. She reaches the gap and shimmies through, getting a look at the room inside. The floor creaks slightly under her feet, not making her entrance as silent as she'd like. Assuming Isilme's Message is still usable. "The room seems clear, though the gap is a bit small to get through," she whispers back to the group. "There's a way forward from the looks of it and some cages that are thankfully empty. One moment." She pauses and gets just a little close to the door, listening for anything beyond, though she doesn't risk getting too close for her own safety. If possible, staying at least 10 feet from the door.

Perception (Heroism, Grazed): 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 - 1 = 15

Val waits a few moments to be sure, then sends another Message. "Seems all clear. If we want to try going in this way, it seems alright. And if we don't want to waste the scales' magic, I can come down, grab some robe, then just tie it off up here and throw one end down to you. If anyone still has rope that is."

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

So, scales or rope?

WRONG ALIAS

Isilme looks at the vermlek carcasses in disgust. Taking a moment she invokes magic to wipe her blade clean of the creatures' filth, and gets herself just for good measure. She then grabs the potion Ary had handed her back at Defender's heart and downs it.

Potion(cure light wounds): 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

That done, she takes a moment to refresh message as Val begins her ascent. "Best to take care of it now, lest it run out during our infiltration."

"Sounds like that's the way to go then. You can always assist those climbing to make it easier," she offers.

Edit: For Rope if that's not clear

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Hinagiku:

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Shocked by the sudden and unusual aggressiveness of the fly monsters, Hinagiku stops her chant, and retreats closer to the wall by pushing herself with her feet. Why the sudden irritation… they must want to avoid undue noises… Now that she is done with the manacles, the Tian woman slowly slips the file back in her sleeve. Need to keep them for now, too dangerous to reveal myself yet… Knowledge is power though, I need to know what is causing this behavior, I need to make noises. she thinks to herself before using her limited imagination to devise a plan.
After a moment Hinagiku’s done with the planning, she opens her eyes, an air of disgust immediately appears on her face as she sees the flies. Playing with it, she falls to the side and starts scrambling toward Annabelle as if looking to protect her or seek comfort next to her. On her way, she makes sure that the chains she is wearing rattle as loud as possible on the ground. Now, if they lunge at me again, I just need to shriek once… that should be enough noise.

The group scrambles through the small vent and find themselves in a small room. There are a lot of iron cages hanging from the ceiling, each contains the half-consumed carcass of various birds. There is also a single, wooden door. From beyond the wooden door, the heroes can clearly hear the noise of rattling chains.

Hinagiku:
There is now a lot of noise coming from the room beyond the locked wooden door, but no voices. Whatever it is, it is driving the flies into a frenzy - they completely ignore Hinagiku as she crawls onto Annabelle's unconscious body.

”I will try to save ourselves. Pray to the Master of masters for me.”

Are the bird corpses the corpses of regular birds? Like, tiny birds, say, the ravens that used to live in the garrison?

Irabeth glances back. "Easier said than done, but what we need to do we need to do. That room over there is an aviary - we just moved through the chute the birds take when delivering messages. It should connect to main hallway - the stairs down are there. Though... we should move fast, they should not know we have come this way yet, but once they do, we will assuredly have a long fight ahead of us."

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

The bird corpses are all tiny birds - ravens, likely, but it is hard to tell with them all decomposed and mangled.

Commander Irabeth stares at Markus for a moment, frowning. "I've... heard of such a practice, but I've never actually met one. But we really don't have the time to have an ethical debate about such a thing. As long as what you do doesn't hurt any of us, and that you surrender the bodies for proper burial once we're done, I'm fine with it. ...Assuming it's even possible to release them once you've brought them back.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Don't let me rush you out of any buffing/healing you want to do, but I'm just waiting on someone to volunteer to open the door.

Open the door?:
Gasp! It's locked!

"I... didn't we just see what happens to Necromancers when they die?" Ary asks, mouth twisting in a grimace. "I trust you and all, Markus... but if that's the price, I'm not sure I want you to pay it."

"If... it's to save all of northern Avistan... those men who stood and fought in life, I don't think would be upset by it. Iomedae doesn't like when we bury weapons, either. I'd... be okay with you doing that if I fell. But.. just remember the cost."

"We did." says Markus, leveling a glance at Ary. "But I won't let that happen to me. I can't become a demon upon death - and I won't. Trust me."

Irabeth glances at the necromancer, offering a small smile - but her tone is serious. "I hope you offer prayers to Pharasma, Markus."

Markus:

Markus is right, of course, his spells aren't even [Evil] :)!

But white necromancy is really rare, so he shouldn't expect anyone short of a scholar to really understand what he does. You'll need to pass diplomacy checks to not provoke violence with really uneducated people - like peasants. Even as Markus gains prestige, his fame as a white necromancer will probably attract the worst sort of attention. :P

WRONG ALIAS

"White necromancy? I suppose that's why he didn't answer when I asked about his magic use in Defender's heart," Isilme thinks to herself. She'd never heard of such a thing, but this was hardly the time and place to worry about it. The others seemed to trust him well enough, and for now that was plenty for her.

"The commander is right, we should get moving quickly." Isilme says. She moves up to the door and listens at it for a moment, after a minute or so she gently tests the door and finds it locked.

Keyhole available to pick:

Digging out her new thieves' tools, she begins to work on the door to unlock it. She takes the picks and works them into the lock carefully, slowly manipulating the pins in an attempt to get the lock to release.

I'm going to guess that 25 is the magic number. There are words to describe this, none of them of which will render as anything but @!#?@!

It's clear as she fiddles with the lock that the lack of direct training makes it difficult for Isilme to get the lock yield. At one point at least she manages to drop the set, though she manages to catch the case mid-fall, leaving only a couple quiet clinks as the ones that were in the lock hit the ground. Isilme turns red as she gathers them up, a terribly familiar look to the others despite her new attire.

"I've thought about it, but I never thought she might answer." says Markus. "Undead hate and all, and Ustalav origin. Enough about how careful I should be, though. Let's get through this door."

"We can discuss the difference between white and black necromancers later," Ehren says, agreeing with Irabeth's sentiments. He could not afford to distrust his own allies, not after the faith they had placed in him. Even if their power was a little... disquieting. Preparing for battle, Ehren taps into the ley and presses his hand against his chest, hardening his flesh.

Barkskin on self for 50 minutes.

While they wait for Valaria to take Isilme's place, Markus uses the opportunity to get Commander Irabeth to drink one of his cure potions. "Here," he says. "For your wounds."
