Isilme motions for the others to approach the main chapel. As they approach, she scans the area for signs anything was watching them, and occasionally checks to see if the gargoyles are reacting. Closer to the building, she carefully peeks in one of the stained glass windows. She gestures for the others to approach the nearest of the small single doors, agreeing with Val's assessment of the situation. "Check it?"

Valaria moves forwards to gently check one of the smaller doors.

Valaria:
It is open.

Meanwhile, Isilme quickly peers through one of the stained glass windows. Inside, the vaulted ceiling of this massive sanctuary reaches nearly thirty feet overhead. The ceiling is covered in thick spider webs. Smashed stained-glass windows stretch in bands down the aisles and the pungent smell of death wafts through them. Four angelic statues occupy each corner of the room, armored and wielding swords, though their faces and wings are cracked and broken almost beyond recognition. The walls are covered with disturbing shapes and runes that have been scratched into the stone. An altar, befouled with grime and filth, sits in the middle of the room. At its center is a chalice made of a human skull filled with maggots. Bound to the altar in ropes is Bethil, who appears to be unconscious. Deep scratches marr her face and body.

Sitting peacefully in the pews are six undead creatures, enraptured by a procession being lead by two high priests decked in purple and black robes. They don't seem to notice Isilme, or the faint click of Valaria turning the knob, so focused they are on their ritual.

DC 20 K.Religion (DEMONS):

The fiendish runes and scribblings on the walls are prayers sacred to Kabriri, the One Who Gnaws. Kabriri is the demonic lord of ghouls and a demigod of cannibalism.

Xanderghul moves up beside Valaria and peers in, and suddenly his boredom evaporates. So many enemies! He counts, slowly... at least fifteen hostiles, it had been awhile since they were so outnumbered! Whispering through the message spell, he relays a quick plan, "The chapel is full of ghouls, and they're doing some kind of religious service. Odds are, they're offering up Bethil as a sacrifice. I vote we put Ehren, Ary, Anevia, and Hinagiku by the front door. Valaria and Isilme go in by the side to guard Bethil. Hinagiku holds the door from the gargoyles after we all rush in."

WRONG ALIAS

"Excellent plan, I will use illusion to attempt to keep the three spiders up above out of the fray and try to give Bethil some protection. I will do what I can to demoralize them and protect us from their paralysis, can you handle inspiring the group Val?"

Xanderghul steps in through the door, incanting a powerful offensive spell. Shadows writhe around Xanderghul as he conjures illusory material from the Shadow Plane - this time, it is a driving storm of ash and dust that fills up nearly the entire chapel. "Surprise, b+$#+!" he shouts.

Cast shadow conjuration to replace ash storm. They get DC 20 Will saves to get an 80% chance to ignore it, but otherwise they suffer from blindness and difficult terrain. I want to center it two spaces behind Bethil - that should fill up the entire chapel, except for the first three rows.

Outside, the gargoyles slowly stir to life, aggravated by the ruckus that Xanderghul was causing. One swoops directly towards the noise he is causing, landing in the mists next to Valaria. It peers through the fog in confusion, then... understanding.

"Mistress Ignigena! Intruders! Mistress Ignigena! Intruders! There are sorcerers, false mists, and storms of ash! Mistress Ignigena!"' it screeches, swiping at Valaria once with a taloned claw. Another gargoyle swoops down from the church roof and lands next to Valaria. And yet another gargoyle lands next to Hinagiku, lashing out at her back with its wicked hind talons.

One ghoul stumbles out of the church, gasping for breath. It peers around in confusion.

Anevia, having no visible targets waits for the opportunity to do anything at all.

Hinagiku please take the opportunity to use your standard action whenever you wish.

Just as Ary finishes strapping Faith to her arm, another gargoyle swoops down from the air, claws out-stretched. She bashes it away from Hinagiku before it can reach the vulpine monk.

Hinagiku, Xanderghul, Valaria, Isilme:

The two remaining spiders descend from the ceiling and head towards the open front doors.

"सुमारे एकत्रित, विश्वासू! यज्ञ संरक्षित करा!" cries one of the ghoulish priests, arms stretched out. The other ghouls, the ones whose minds were strong enough to withstand Xanderghul's illusion, gather around the desecrated altar.

The other ghoulish priest joins his brother in their incantation. He holds a similar scroll in his furled claws.

The doors to the stables open, and a woman steps out. She wears long robes of purple and blue, and her face is covered with a copper mask, leaving only bright orange eyes visible. Her hair is an unruly mass of black strands - it undulates softly, moving independently of the wind blasting around them, almost like a mass of smoke. She moves slowly, with a slight limp, and in her hand is a long whip that appears to be constructed of humanoid vertebrae, their edges sharpened and pointed and joined together into a long coil by a strand of blackened steel wire. The handle is half of a femur wrapped in soft leather.

She glances across the courtyard, watching the gargoyles besiege the heroes.. her face inscrutable, due to her mask.

"باشه، بابا، به سرعت میاد، ما مهمان هستیم!" she says in a language the heroes do not understand - she sounds delighted. Without missing a beat, she switches into the rasping tongue of the ghouls - "जाडिस! इझेक! योजना बदलल्या आहेत Maugla फक्त प्रतीक्षा करावी लागेल लगेच बलिदान तयार करा" she cries out in a loud, clear voice.

When she finishes casting, a flash of light appears in the middle of the room above Bethil. When the light fades, a silver-haired elf floats in the air above the crusader, a wicked gleaming scimitar in its hand. Meanwhile, Ehren raises a brow when Bethil abruptly comes flying out of the ash storm and lands at his feet. Judging by Anevia's reaction, neither she nor Ary could see through Xanderghul's spell anyway, just like him. Anevia slips sideways into the mists, shadows coiling around her as she launches an arrow, point blank, into the gargoyle's muzzle. It feebly gets back up, flapping its enormous wings, and Hinagiku seizes the opportunity to punch the creature solidly in the stomach. She can feel her fist shatter through its stony hide, ripping apart the tender sinew underneath. The gargoyle shrieks in pain, and raises a claw to strike back, but Ary slams the gargoyle away with Faith before it can reach her.

Further away, the gargoyles can no longer see Valaria - she has vanished into the illusory ash storm. Instead, they move towards Isilme. With a malevolent glimmer in its eye, one raises a claw in an arc against Isilme, cutting into her neck. Another ghoul stumbles blindly out of the chapel behind her.

Mistress Ignigena is an ifrit - a demi-human whose bloodline has been touched - or cursed - by the elemental plane of fire.

"My supplicants... what is it that you desire?" she croons.

"Destroy them, Mistress Ignigena! Destroy them all! Raise their bodies to serve the great lord, Kabriri!" cry the gargoyles.

Mistress Ignigena loses her limp as she gracefully switches to elegantly floating a few feet off of the ground. She "vanishes" into the mists - unseen to the bear nor Anevia - she lines herself up against the heroes. "Hmmm... destruction? Your wish... is my command." She raises her free hand and sends a single bolt of lightning careening down the path, reaching even Ehren. Hinagiku sees it coming - faster than even lightning she jumps out of the way... but the others are not so lucky. Bethil, for instance, couldn't even move out of the way.... she appears, for all intents and purposes, a charred corpse. A strange feeling wells up in Ehren and Ary's stomachs... raw fear.

The lightning blast rips through the grizzly bear and even one of Ignigena's supplicants, killing them instantly. If she cares, she doesn't show it. Merrily, she returns to speaking in a different tongue - "بابا، کجایی؟ بیا به بازی ..."
