Isilme is up!

WRONG ALIAS

Isilme looks back in shock as Xanderghul vanishes, ostensibly leaving them to fend for themselves. "Ehren, change of plans, can you make a portcullis with stone shape to buy us time to get out? You'll need to start it from this wall here," she says pointing at the corner by Val, "and wrap it around to the far side of the stairs. I'll move so you can cast it, I should be able to tumble past them without a problem." she says after reassessing the situation. "Everyone get ready to move as quickly as you possibly can once Ehren says go!"

Isilme closes her eyes and gently touches her forehead, praying softly, invoking the blessing of travel she'd received from Desna long ago. expeditious retreat Stepping quickly, she ducks past Val in a flash, tumbling out the door and making for the stairs. She leaps forward past Val, clearing the 15' of broken glass easily, staying low to the ground to evade the Marbasulek's attack before turning and heading up the stairs, not wanting to clog their escape route.

Val sighs. "Or we can go straight through the monsters," she mutters. "Sure, let's do that. Because it worked so well the last time that we did it." She rubs her temples, then follows after Isilme, not about to let her go ahead alone. She leaps forward, dancing through the broken glass and heading straight for the stairs and as high as possible in one move.

Isilme and Valaria move faster than the dim witted golems can register, scaling up a quarter of the stairs before they react. Valaria confidently steps out into the caltrops, but finds that they are much sharper and perilous than she expected, and hurts her feet on them as she passes.

Ary moves up the hallway to cover everyone's backs as they flee the crumbling complex.

Ehren is up!

Ehren's expression hardens somewhat when he hears Valaria's remark, but he says nothing. Instead, he focuses on Isilme's plan, having caught the gist of it. It was not quite what he had in mind, but the aasimar was nothing if not an apt strategist. Dropping to one knee, the druid places both palms against the stone floor and concentrates, once again drawing on the ley's power. He visualizes the stone in his mind as a ball of clay, soft and malleable. And then, with an exertion of will, he forms the hands that would shape that clay. Ehren was no artist - far from it, in fact - but these hands had none of the clumsiness that could be found in his own. With a mere thought he could create any shape he desired.

Like fluid, but not quite like liquid, the stone floor in the incubation chamber starts to flow. One by one a number of stone bars surge out of the ground, all the way up to the ceiling, forming a barrier between their group and the flesh golems.

"I don't know how long those will hold. Everyone should get moving," he says to everyone still in the hallway, taking no time to admire his handiwork. Instead he looks to the glass on the ground with a grimace. For a moment, he misses his old feet. With reckless abandon however, he runs right through the broken glass, knowing that he would probably regret it.

Using place magic and stone shape (CL 6th) to follow through with Isilme's plan. Assuming that Ehren doesn't have to move to do so since he had enough LoS to see the flesh golems, and because the floor is solid stone.

Buffs | Char. Sheet |

Hinagiku watches as a plan is set into motion. Trusting in her allies, she gently ushers Valais forward.
"Miss Valais, go forward, and do not worry I will be right behind you." she says softly.

On Valais heel's, Hinagiku runs, passes by Ary, and does her best to push the glass shards with her feet at the same time as she steps forward, keeping close to the wall to avoid as much as the glass as possible.

Run, x4 move? to climb up the stairs, keep to the right to avoide glass. If its impossible to avoide the caltrops by sticking to the sid eof the wall, HInagiku will go at half speed.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Ehren runs recklessly into the caltrops, terribly mangling his new, bare feet in the process. Hinagiku takes a slower, measured approach -moving slowly through the caltrops and then moving along the wall to avoid them entirely. Valais follows behind, imitating the kitsune monk's movements to likewise circumvent the hazard. She glances up fearfully through the portcullis at the monsters as they approach the magically sculpted barrier. They move recklessly through the shattered glass - their naturally thick corpse-flesh protecting them from all injury - and begin to grasp at the bars of the barrier in an effort to smash right through...

The serpentine-bodied golem fixates on Ary.... it grips the portcullis with its four arms and smashes straight through the wall with seemingly no effort, spraying her with rubble. The rush out of the demented laboratory seems to come to a crawl for the marshal...she raises her shield, protecting herself from the debris, then spots the monster lunging for her next. She steps back at the last moment, dodging the creature's below behind the corner.

The other monster hisses like a snake, using its entire body to smash through the portcullis in one swoop. It then pokes its horrible face through the rubble, lunging at Hinagiku with a hundred tiny, biting mouths... but the monk shows off some fancy footwork, ducking low to the ground and evading the creature's attack entirely.

You can't avoid the first square of caltrops without acrobatics - the door is in the way. You can clear it with just a DC 5 acrobatics check with a running start of 10', DC 10 if you can't. You can also simply move at half speed to avoid them entirely.

Audit: totally forgot Valais in initiative, heh. Also, you can't really run up the stairs, as they count as difficult terrain. The only way to go faster up there is to increase your movement speed, or to gain a faster secondary base speed somehow (by flying or whatever).

Book keeping: Ehren builds a portcullis with stone shape, it has 9 HP for each 5' segment of wall, with 8 hardness, 7 AC). Ehren takes 2 damage from caltrops and is moving at half speed until he can receive magical healing. Hinagiku and Valais make it to the base of the stairs. Ehren makes it 5' up the stairs. Xanderghul breaks out into a jog, attempting an easy jump over just the corner caltrops so as not to injure his delicate, beautiful feet.

Acrobatics (DC 5): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Unfortunately, he trips and and in order to catch his balance, he puts his foot down directly into the caltrops. He curses his poor physical acuity and just continues going. When he reaches the foot of the staircase, he casts a spell to create images - in this case, the images are of the portcullis that Ehren made spontaneously regenerating itself, the stone re-growing and flowing to form seamless bars again.

Move over, fall into the caltrops, and cast silent image to create the image of the stone bars regenerating.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

The caltrops hurt, but they don't injure him badly enough to slow Xanderghul down. He turns around uses his illusionary magic to make it seem like the wall is whole once more. The monsters roar in confusion as their hard work is seemingly undone.

caltrops vs Xanderghul: 1d20 ⇒ 12 Xanderghul's AC vs caltrops is 14

Audit: Can't actually crit an object so verm-mari-basu only dealt 10 damage to the wall, which still destroys it.

Book keeping: Xanderghul casts silent image (duration: concentration)

Isilme is up!

WRONG ALIAS

"Keep moving everyone!" Isilme calls out to the others. Focusing herself she calls upon her magic to create a stream of grease which shoots out through the bars down towards the quasit creature, coating the ground around him and the area through which he'd have to squeeze to get to the group. "That should buy us some more time," she says before continuing up the stairs.

Std Act: Cast grease Mv Act: move 60' up stairs
Grease, DC 15 Reflex save for Quasit-Monster or prone, Acrobatics 10 to move half-speed through greased area (i.e. 4 squares of move to squeeze through bars). Fail means no movement, fail by 5 means prone again

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Valaria stumbles slowly up the stairs, crippled as she is by her wounded feet.

Ary still seems distracted and broody, but lets her instincts kick in when it comes to her friends. She tucks, and then tries a low somersault to clear the area guarded by the Snake-Golem, hoping to leap to the safe square on the other side of the caltrops. She brushes up against the invisible Xanderghul, but otherwise isn't impeded.

Afterwards, assuming nothing terrible happens, she'll just keep moving, trusting her allies to quickly outpace her - or at least keep up.

Ary Acrobatics (Dodge!, Notdedd): 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 1 = 17

Book keeping: Valaria is now 35' up the stairs and Ary is 40' up the stairs. Ehren delays to after Hinagiku.

Hinagiku is up!

2 people marked this as a favorite.
Buffs | Char. Sheet |

Heeding Isilme's call, Hinagiku starts climbing the stairs with Valais in tow. Calm and in control, as she always strives to be, she climbs while looking at the monsters from the corner of her eyes and surveying her allies. Thus, Hinagiku sees Ehren walk through the glass shard barefoot, and she passes by Valaria who seems to be limping. Barely slowing down, the monk grabs the blue pendant hanging from her neck and intones a quick prayer to the Master of masters.

"By wounds weaken, we cannot face these new challenges. Master of masters, close these wound so we may undertake this climb, gives us a chance to surpass ourselves." Upon her last words, wisps of blue and white lite surround the area, healing wounds.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Hinagiku's magic washes over Ehren and Valaria, sealing over the wounds in their feet. She then heads up the stairs, Valais following behind her.

Book keeping: Hinagiku heals Ehren and Valaria for 6 HP, restoring their HP to full and healing the caltrops. Hinagiku and Valais advance 30' up the stairs.

Ehren is up!

Ehren stumbles as he scrambles up the steps, hobbled not so much by pain as he is by the small shards of glass still sticking out of his feet. The inevitable destruction of his stone barrier does not surprise him so much as its sudden repair. He hesitates just long enough to find that in an instant, his debilitating wounds have been healed.

Given the urgency of their situation, he only has time to flash a quick smile in Hinagiku's direction. With the monsters still trapped for the time being, he picks up the pace, running as quickly as he can manage.

Double moving, 60 feet up stairway.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

The monsters rip into the illusionary wall, finding it to be nothing but a ruse as their fists pass through the thin air - they see through it immediately. Meanwhile, Ehren moves as fast as he can up the stairs, moving out of sight of the monsters entirely and into the darkness above.

Ehren moves 60' up the stairs, he is 65' up the stairs at this point. The two monsters waste a full round action attacking the illusionary wall, because they are faced with proof it isn't real, do not need a save to disbelieve.

Round 3!

Xanderghul is up!

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

It's been over 24 hrs so I'm botting Xanderghul until he reports to discussion.

For the rest of you - if all you intend to do with your next couple of turns is move up the stairs, feel free to let me know in discussion so I can automate that. I just don't want to rob you of further attempts to slow the monsters down, or whatever else you'd like to do with your actions...

The still invisible Xanderghul turns, breaking his concentration on the now futile illusion in order to move up the staircase and after his new companions as fast as possible. He brushes past Hinagiku, Valais, and Ary to make it over a quarter of the way up the stairs.

Book keeping: Xanderghul makes it 40' up the stairs!

Isilme is up!

WRONG ALIAS

"I'll get ready to close the passageway," Isilme calls down to the others before heading up the remainder of the way. When she reaches the top she positions herself next to the altar with the gorgon statue, preparing to seal the passage as soon as the others make it up top.
Mv Act: Move 30' to top

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Upon reaching the top of the stairs, Isilme finds that the labyrinth she emerges into is fantastically different from the maze the group traveled through just under an hour ago. Rather than a crumbling ruin of stone walls, the floor is made of a polished marble, and the intricately engraved ivory walls are decorated with brightly lit golden torches.

Book keeping: Isilme reaches the top of the stairs.

Book keeping: Valaria is 95' of movement up the stairs.

WRONG ALIAS

"The maze is apparently repaired!" Isilme calls back down the stairs, sounding worried. "Val, can you get ready to close the passage once everyone is up? I'm going to attempt to use detect magic to see if the maze is an illusion." she says to Val as she reaches the top. Isilme utters the incantation and briefly touches her closed eyelids before opening them. Meanwhile, far below, the many-faced monster struggles to regain its balance on Isilme's greased floor. The marilith-bodied golem slithers past, its stitched body contorting into impossible shapes to squeeze into the tight staircase and after the heroes.

Quasitfaces acrobatics vs DC 10 acrobatics for grease: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8

Book keeping: Ehren makes it past the staircase. VMN makes it 20' up the staircase. Xanderghul makes it 100' up the staircase.

Round 4!

Seeing the monster close in on him, Xanderghul speeds up the staircase, managing to catch up with Ary - though the rest of the group cannot tell that he is there at all.

Isilme is up!

WRONG ALIAS

"It looks like the repaired maze may be entirely an illusion," Isilme says as she begins to move forward. "We need to keep moving! I will try to pick out the illusory walls quickly for us." She maintains her concentration on the walls ahead as she advances, focusing on spotting illusion magic among the auras ahead of her.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

In order to navigate the maze, someone must succeed on a DC 15 Intelligence check per round of movement - this reflects the person remembering how to navigate the maze from having previously moved through it earlier in the day. You may take a +2 insight bonus if you successfully disbelieve the illusion that is making the maze appear whole once more.

Disbelieving the illusion requires a DC 18 Will Save, though everyone gets a +4 bonus to this save since Isilme has called out the illusion and successfully disbelieved it. You only disbelieve the illusion surrounding your immediate viewable area - moving deep enough into the maze is considered a new illusionary effect and therefore requires a new will save.

Book keeping: Isilme delays her turn until someone succeeds at the Int check or before the monsters go.

Valaria is up!

Book keeping: Everyone reaches the top of the staircase. VMN makes it to 60' up the stairs, but quasitfaces remains trapped in the grease.

Round 5!

Xanderghul finally makes it up and out of the top of the stairs. He specializes in illusion magic himself - so it doesn't take much effort for him to overcome the magic in the area...after that his quick mind reels, putting together what he can remember from following Valais through the complex to get here in the first place. Realizing that it'd be impossible for him to lead the way through the complex while remaining invisible, he swallows his pride and dismisses the effect from himself and suddenly reappears amongst the group.

"Look, I'm still here. Like I said, I'm pretty good at going unseen when I need to be. I remember the way we came." He steps over and through one of the walls - revealing it as a fake - and instantly dispelling the illusion for the rest of the group as he goes. "Are you ready to follow me?"

Isilme breathes a sigh of relief as Xanderghul points the group in the direction of the exit. She follows him through the first wall and continues further in the direction he's pointing, maintaining her concentration on her spell. Unfortunately she finds the concentration too much, the focus keeping her from maintaining her bearings within the maze. Instead she keeps within line of sight of Xanderghul in case she needs to backtrack, confident in her speed.

The illusion in place is robust enough that it's likely a phantasmagoria effect put in place by a ghost...

Meanwhile, Valaria seals the staircase. The golems are not nearly intelligent enough to open the device from the inside, buying the heroes an ample amount of time to try and navigate their way through the maze...

Book keeping: Combat ends after a total of 5 rounds, the heroes have spent 9 rounds in the crumbling complex so far..

Combat ends!

Xanderghul crosses his arms and harrumphs as Isilme speeds right past him - didn't he say he would lead the way? He taps his foot impatiently. "Well, are you ready to go, or what?" He glances up at the shuddering ceiling - there wasn't much time left...

Once three are ready to move forwards, we will.

Armed with the knowledge that the maze is not real, Ehren finds that his mind can pierce the veil. Even without the illusory walls however, he finds that he cannot quite remember the way they came. It seemed they would have to rely on Xanderghul after all.

Glancing up at the ceiling, the druid frowns. "Yes, I'm ready."

Unsure of exactly what's going on, Xanderghul tries to push or walk faster than Isilme so that he remains in the lead. He's sure that he has a better grasp on how to get through it than any of them do, that's for sure. "Come on then, this way." he insists.

"I'm afraid I'm not entirely sure." says Xanderghul. "I know it's not one of the classic image line of spells, and it's not any of the spells which purely affect people, like veil. It's been a long time since I've dealt with illusions of this caliber."

WRONG ALIAS

Assuming mine counts as an aid as well, that should get you the Arcana, you should try for the religion as well if you can, just in case
Also we need more int checks to keep moving out of here, I failed mine this round. Need one of y'all to make it or we're gonna be lost for a round

She sighs thinking that they should have expected something like this to begin with and marked the path through the maze on the way in just in case. Unfortunately now they were stuck trying to go by memory, and the entire place was threatening to come down upon their heads. "Which way?" she asks the others, unable to get her bearings. "We need to keep moving or we are going to end up buried down here," she says, her voice still calm, though carrying a sense of urgency.

Isilme: You really need to declare your rolls as aid anothers when you roll them - otherwise you're free to roll a separate K.arcana aid another as a standard action.

Also, I botted Xanderghul through making the first int check, I just wanted to make sure you guys were ready to move and didn't have other things you wanted to do with your actions :)

Xanderghul begins to lead the group through the maze - progressing far enough away from their original starting point that the illusion begins to re-assert itself on their minds....

A bedraggled man in a Crusader's uniform suddenly turns the corner and runs at the group, sweat pouring down his dirty, bruised face.

"Quick! You have to run! You have to run! He's coming..." he gasps out, desperately.

Remember which way they went? Ary didn't have any idea which areas were even illusory, much less remembering which way they went. She should have used the chalk she'd gotten to mark the way, but... hindsight was 20/20. There was no way to realistically know it would restore itself.

"I don't know." she says, shaking her head as she allows the others to lead the way. "Then you should run, too."

"Who is coming...?" Ehren asks, already dreading the answer. He looks upon the Crusader with his spirit sense, trying to discern whether he is real, an illusion, or something else.

Xanderghul stops at an intersection - now that the maze has restored its illusion once more it is difficult to discern which direction to continue moving. Need a new successful int check to keep moving.

"You need to hurry! He'll find you..." The crusader does not waste much time talking to the heroes - he turns to run past them and down the way they came. Just as he is about to turn the corner and run out of sight when he skids to a halt. He stops, backing up slowly...

"No! No! No!" he cries out as an enormous beast, a hulking minotaur wielding a massive great hammer embellished with ivory and gold emerges from behind the wall. His movements are slow and deliberate as he corners his prey, smashing his mighty weapon across the crusader's cowering form. The soldier crumples to the ground, apparently dead. The minotaur stands up straight, scoffing as the crusader's blood spreads across the floor and pools into the grout.

"No one escapes Karsos, pathetic human," he grunts.

The minotaur turns to the group and snorts, his ears pressed flat against his skull...

Round 1

Ehren is up!

Buffs | Char. Sheet |

Without Isilme's comment, Hinagiku wouldn't have thought it possible that the crusader might have been an illusion. Still, in the off chance the man was real, he needed to know what was going on.
"Sir crusader, this complex is about to crumble down. My companions are right, we must be on our way, we cannot slow down." she says, jogging to keep up with the others.

EDIT:
Hinagiku is barely done speaking when the crusader is cut down by the minotaur, making her heart skip a beat.
"Still an illusion?" she seriously asks, after breathing in to regain her calm.

Hinagiku:

Hinagiku's heart races - but as alerted as she is by Isilme's skepticism, she manages to see through the facade... both the minotaur and the crusader are but an illusion, suddenly appearing as just a shimmering hologram to the monk's eyes.

Valais squirms. "Should we run? Or fight?"
