Blossom trots a few feet over to where Markus is standing, holding up a vial of acid he's held in his hand for her.

She grabs it up, wheels around and hucks it at the swarm of wasps.

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Annabelle tosses her flask of acid at the swarm and kills a handful of wasps. Unfortunately, Valaria is in the swarm, and is splashed a little with the contents.

With the swarm coming within the area most illuminated by Radiance, Hinagiku moves to position herself next to the horrible pustulesblue circle. For a moment, she simply stands there, trying to center herself. It almost seems as though she is about to stop fighting. However, once she feels calmer, she throws the bottle of holy water toward the swarm. The few wasps that remain disperse, flying far away from here.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
dg: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8

Hinagiku disperses the swarm, Valaria takes 1 damage.

Combat ends

Resolving poison in a moment.

Seeing the swarm dispatched, Isilme breathes a sigh of relief. She pats Cyno on the side reassuringly, glad he'd not encountered the same fate as the two cart horses or Val's horse.

Is Val's horse still in sight at all? If so Isilme will try and catch it and bring it back.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

She looks around for Val's horse, trying to see if she could catch up to it to bring it back. Otherwise it'd certainly wind up dead before long out here.

Valaria needs to make two DC 20 fort saves, or fail 5 times and take 1d6 dex damage for each failure (max 5d6). This is pretty nasty. Maybe there are things you can do about it?

The carthorses succumb to the poison and die. Valaria's horse nearly falls too, but it is tougher than it looks, apparently.

Meanwhile, Valaria is fighting the same deadly venom in her veins. Can her friends help her?

Isilme looks around for Valaria's horse, but in the darkness it is impossible to see very far... someone with a trained eye could probably track him back down, though.

Annabelle looks at Valaria, and winces. "Augh, sorry! I uh... didn't think it would hurt you. Tieflings aren't hurt by elements? Something like that?"

DC 16 survival to track down her horse.

Annabelle dismounts Blossom to check on the horses. She feels along their necks. "These guys have passed on, Captain," she says, sadly. She looks at Valaria. "Where's Markus' horse?"

She turns and stares at the wagon. "If Markus' horse is alive we can strap him and Cynosure to the wagon and keep going." She frowns. "Or I guess we could keep going and leave the wagon behind. But if the sun rises before we get back to the Fort I'll melt into a puddle like phlllbbbtttt." She gives Ary a cocky smirk. "But I ain't afraid of that, so I guess it's your call?"

Isilme draws her rapier and hands it to Ary hilt first. "It is a shame to have to put them down, but there is little we can do for them now. We will need all our resources for the battle to come," she says. Her words sound hollow to her own ears though. She looks at Cyno and at the horses and sighs inwardly. She'd only been riding him for a bit, but she already would've gladly healed him if he'd been wounded, even at the cost of a spell that might have been essential later on. She felt a little guilty not extending that to the two horses that had been pulling the cart, but a restoration was significantly more important to have available than a heal.

Ary takes the rapier and tucks it into her arm pit. She gives her a small nod. She follows the trail into the darkness, using Radiace to light the way, as she went off in search of the horse. It couldn't have gone far, with the wounds and paralysis... in the pitch black. Dammit.

Ary finds the horse a thousand feet away, circling fearfully. The horse is critically wounded, weak from poison, and covered in enormous welts, but it can still move around just fine. The lanky creature was more heroic than it appeared, it seemed.

Hinagiku stands guard around the other while they take care of Valaria. Those observing her might noticed that she is still slightly shaking as she puts back the healing potion into her kimono and takes out her wand. It is still hard for her to find her center, what she glimpse when the touched Markus, the truth and the hallucination, the strong emotions she had not felt in years, the terrible horror of the place. She would need more time to get over it than a few minutes.

Once Ary comes back with the horse, she kneels down next to Valaria and starts healing her wounds. Pressing her hand on her wound, but unable to truly pay attention to what she can observe in the tiefling's soul.

Ary offers a sigh of relief as she guides it back. The poor thing is in pitiable condition, but... it always had been. She takes the rapier back to Isilme, offering it back out... and then performing the difficult work of unhitching the two horses and moving them. She's surprised when the half-ton creatures actually aren't that difficult to move, the golden ropes crossing over her shoulders bearing most of the weight for her. They're still awkward, though, and someone (or two) to help her carry the sizable creatures away from the places they had landed.

A horse -just barely- breaches her 'max load'. :)

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Annabelle is freaky strong, so she gives Ary a hand to help ease the awkwardness of shifting the horses off from their harnesses.

Afterwards, Annabelle moves to Hinagiku's side, and peers at her, concerned. "Hey, Senpai? Are you okay?" She sighs. The toothy rain had stopped while Ehren and Ary were tending to Valaria, but now the ground was covered with a thin layer of human teeth. The erupted pustules in the ground nearby ooze blood and pus onto the yellow rageweed plants.

"Y'know, I had heard... stories. But I always figured they were... exaggerated." She swallows.

With Cynosure and Markus' horse hitched to the wagon, will Valaria and Isilme walk or ride inside?

The primary difference here is speed.

K. Geography DC 20 Worldwound know-how:

The actual rift in the Worldwound is located in the lost city of Iz, which is on the eastern side of the country... right next to Mendev. Therefore, the taint is strongest on the eastern side. This has lead the region to be referred to as "The Wounded Lands".

Further away from the rift, while still inhospitable, the Worldwound is less distinctly Abyssal in nature. In fact, there is a surviving Sarkorian town - Gundrun - in the southern region of the country closer to Ustalav.

Possible to ride double with Annabelle? Less eggs in one basket? : p

With everything sorted out, Isilme ponders what to do. If everyone were in the cart and another swarm erupted, things could get ugly. She also wanted to be free to help scout around as needed. She turns to Annabelle and says "Would you and Blossom be alright with me riding double with you? I think we should avoid having everyone in the cart at this point."

As she's talking to Annabelle, she summons forth her flute, giving it a quick twirl as she waits for an answer. Once her place is sorted out, she begins playing the now all-too-familiar rondo she uses to inspire quickness of step. Triple Time: Callus, Cynosure, Blossom, Val, Hinagiku, Ary; +10 ft enh move for 1 hr

Isilme recounts what she knows of the worldwound to the others as the move along. "The wound itself--The rift, that is--is located in the city of Iz. The worldwound near it, most of the eastern side, is strongly abyssal in nature, and is called 'The Wounded Lands'," she explains. "Further out to the west the taint is less prevalent, and in fact Gundrun, a Sarkorian town, continues to exist within the borders of the worldwound out there near Ustalav."

"I... uh. Okay then." Ary says as the thing suddenly slips out of all of its skin. From this proximity the whole affair is absolutely terrifying, and disgusting. She retches once, and quickly turns away from the two, trying to control her breathing. After a moment, she recovers.

"Alright... just remember to stay spread out. The Brimorak is much more dangerous if we're clustered."

Val's mouth drops open and a small sound somewhere between a gasp and a whimper escapes her lips. "I... what?" When did Markus learn to make corpses flay themselves? Or was that just a thing that any necromancer could do? The instant the question leaves her mouth, it sounds stupid. She distantly realizes that she had forgotten that no matter how often Markus is gloomy, he can be scary just as often.

She numbly climbs back onto her horse. "Anyone have something to help Callus? He's not moving too well."

The cart horses are the ones undeadified. Callus is clumsy and hurt (so harder to handle), Cyno is the picture of horsie health.

I had assumed that we'd already hooked Callus and Cyno to the cart, so Markus was offering Isilme and Val alternate mounts. Either works for me though.

I'm not sure you'd want to ride that thing. :P

"So it's not all like... this, then," Ehren replies, more to himself than Isilme. Her words bring him some sense of relief, but in the end, all it really meant was that there were parts of the Worldwound not quite as terrible as this one.

He watches stoically when Markus raises his bloody horse skeletons, doing his best to hide his revulsion when their flesh simply falls off. His disgust was more with the process than the practice itself; he was not entirely sure he could get used to it. Ehren sighs, understanding that there was little pointing in contemplating it beyond that.

Hearing Valaria, he moves over to Callus' side, reaching out to stroke the side of his head. His other hand retrieves the lesser healing wand from his belt.

"Nach bhfuil tú go leor ar an ceann cróga, tá tú? Lig dom a mhaolú do ualach," he says gently, smiling weakly. He lightly presses the wand against the horse, healing its wounds.

CLW (2 charges): 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4) + 2 = 12

With Valaria's horse healed (but still a little worse for wear), Ehren nods to its rider before running back to board the wagon again. As soon as he gets on, he scrapes off a few more of the teeth that had stuck to his feet. Disgusting.

Druidic:
"You are quite the brave one, aren't you? Let me ease your burden."

Hinagiku stands up, her eyes cast down.
"I had never heard of this. The masters back at my home town only knew about the Onis, and sent us to battle them. My own teacher did tell me that this would be a trial, but I never imagined it would be... like this."she says looking at the landscape.
"Annabelle, don't worry about me. I will be fine when I can move and fight Onis." she says, leaving the cavalier's side to go help Ary.

"Ary, please forgive me, I did not notice how badly wounded you were."she says softly before using the want to heal the wounds of her commander. Then, without a word, she returns to her guarding duty, walking next to the caravan. Only to witness Markus' disturbing display of magic. She frowns slightly, still not really agreeing with his methods. She continues staring for a moment, reflecting on what she perceived when she was in contact with him... not the hallucination, but the other part. Finally, she shakes her head and approaches the necromancer.

"Mr. Markus, please forgive me for what I did. I... I could not control my own actions. I swear this will not happen again." she says with an apologetic bow.

Sorry, I did not look at the campaign tab for Ary's HP, I though she was full somehow.

"Thankth Hinagiku." She says, with a smile... and still slightly swollen lips and tongue. "Does your name mean anything?" She says, trying to find something to work with for a nickname.

ry crunch-crunches around in the teeth for a few more moments, wondering if the new horses would react the same as the old ones. When they didn't turn their heads to acknowledge her, she wasn't sure whether to be glad for that or worried over it. The fact that their eyes were gaping holes made her feel like they were staring at her anyway. She pursed her lips as she let that unsettling fact move forward. "'Belle? I don't think they'll be afraid of you anymore. So there's that... if you ever feel like driving."

Hinagiku raises her eyes to make eye contact with Ary, with her head still slightly bowed in shame, giving the impression that she is quite submissive.

"It means Daisies, a symbol of faith in Minkai."

Markus looks Hinagiku up and down, frowning. He turns his back to her when he gets on the cart. "It's okay. You were influenced by the plants. Don't worry about it."

He steps up to the fore of the cart. "Let me. They're no longer animals - they won't respond to normal commands."

"Daisy is good." She says with a smile, ignoring the submissiveness. She didn't seem at all upset over the delays. The wasps hadn't even grazed her... what we're a few stings among friends?

WRONG ALIAS

Given the horse raising, change triple-time to affect: Skeletal Horses #1 & #2, Cynosure, Callus, Blossom and Hinagiku

Isilme turns away as Markus raises the animals, causing their flesh to slough off to the ground and leaving them a bloody red color. A corpse rising to fight was tolerable, and she understood the necessity, but there was something innately vile about these bloody skeletons.

She takes a moment to refresh the message spell connecting them and then mounts Cynosure. "At least I can stay on Cyno this way, instead of leaving him trapped lashed to the cart if we're attacked again," she thinks.

"It is a most beautiful name, Hinagiku," she says, glad for a more pleasant topic than the animation that had just taken place.

"We should get moving again," she says after a bit, and waits for Ary to resume following the trail.

"I'm sorry, I know that it's...relatively foul." says Markus, taking the reins of the cart. "It's just a matter of practicality. We know that the horses of the cart are in danger, and bloody skeletons don't get destroyed very easily."

WotR Global Buffs/Debuffs: ----

Annabelle grimaces at the undead horses' appearance. "Ugh. Why are they so gross, Markus? You couldn't have made them more like Blossom?"

She gives Ary a fanged grin as she mounts Blossom once more, ready to leave. "Captain!" she whines. "Please don't put me on cart duty. Not on the one mission I'm actually useful for." But then of course Markus offers to drive the cart, and all is well.

The group trudges on forwards for fifteen minutes, until the trail leads up to a very small cave, and then back out once more. Inside there is evidence of someone living there - a tattered bedroll, the remains of rations.

Ary:
Whoever it was, they owned a horse - and then they joined the demons and the prisoners onwards on horseback...

DC 20 perception:
There is nothing of interest here.... whoever was here was here for at least a few days though, given the... refuse.

"Reminds me of the room we got that brooch in." Ary says, looking over the cavern. "They left on horseback with the demons. They've been waiting for a few days for them to show up, too.." She says with a frown, touched only slightly by curiosity. "I do not like the looks of that."
