Hm. Ehren could keep up with him pretty easily... but it'd cost a lot of resources. Radiance is worth it, in any case, but going too far out alone might be suicidal.
Ary Bishop |
Also, Ary is a derp, and once more forgot Isilme's song. That thing is so easy to forget when I forget lingering performance. :P
And Haste. Man, I'm the worst!

You guys remember that browser addon I pointed out a long time ago? The guy who does it has added three new features since then. You'll have to go into options to enable them.
One is the ability to use color tags (which do nothing for people without the addon, so I don't suggest using it).
Another is the ability to use underline tags. (same as above)
But the last one is the amazing one... that makes me wish I could get it on my Kindle. 'Cause it's a doozy. It rememberizes which alias to use on each thread. It should autodetect which to use, and in the cases it messes up on, once you've updated, you should be able to just click on the proper alias, and click the little 'person' symbol next to that.
You know. If you have the addon. :o

I keep it turned off. It'd be really weird to suddenly have a chat box appear or whatever. :s
Hinagiku |
I see.
Sooo... did you all move the conversations to another forum? Because its eerily silent here!
Valaria Alazario |
I think we're waiting for Kiora, but she's been extremely busy lately.
Markus Coffinborn |
Conversation topic!
During my last F2F session I revealed one of the PCs to be the next scion of Aroden's power. Mythic Marshal status.
Thoughts on using Paizo's story in my own way, even when they might release the actual story later?
Ary Bishop |
I don't see any problems with that at all. Who's to say there can be only one?
That being said, I think that the overall tone is that 'the age of man is coming to an end'. :)
I mean, why else are all these apocalypse tier events happening six months apart? :)
Also, yeah. It's that time of year for me. We wound up checking in forty dogs today :|.
Markus Coffinborn |
Oh yeah, I'm planning on the actual apocalypse happening during the campaign.
It's a mythic kingdom-builder game and at the end I'm gonna have the robots from Iron Gods beat them in a war/scorched earth the planet as they lose.
Hinagiku |
Do your players know about this impeding doom?
Also, what paizo story are you refering to?
Markus Coffinborn |
No, not yet. It's a long, long way off - they're still budding mythic heroes - 5th level/MR 1 right now.
I'm unsure how to answer your second one.
Ary Bishop |
No. :|
Hinagiku |
Right, happy thanksgiving (hopefully better thanksgiving as the day advances for Ary) to everyone.
@Markus: you asked us on our thoughts about how you could use Paizo's story in your own way. Did you mean what generally happens in the different APs?
Valaria Alazario |
Happy Thanksgiving!
Valaria Alazario |
I thought that Paizo had never actually given an official story of Aroden's death.
Hinagiku |
I've always thought that Aroden was holding the world together, keeping catastrophes such as the eye of abenago and the worldwound from occurring. You might provide the character with the ability to mend such things (up to a certain point). Or his death might makes things worst, further accelerating the apocalypse.
Ary Bishop |
Home. Day 2 of the 3 days of 'awesome' is over with :p
As for Aroden, that actually might be true. Remember the story I mentioned about Curchanas? The original god of beasts? His death lead to the downfall of human and animal friendship (though it definitely didn't help that the animal portion was stolen by a demon :p).
So, in theory, the fall of the 'God of Mankind' should spell out the ruining of said people. :)
Valaria Alazario |
That... makes an unfortunate amount of sense.
I like to think that the world isn't completely screwed though. The age of lost omens means that prophecies are all lost. And that means fate no longer holds the same sway. Humans can make their own destiny. Including saving the world themselves.
Ary Bishop |
Yup, that's also true! They might just be waiting for another 'God of Mankind' to take the reins.
Also, I will be very surprised if Hell's Vengeance doesn't have something to do with Aroden, or something that once belonged to him. So not only do I expect lots more Good Extraplanars, I expect something from Aroden.
Also, also. Remember: Golarion is also a world where adventure is commonplace enough that people know that that's a way to make a living, if a lot dangerous. That means that threats are relatively common within the world, and these apocalypse-level events may not really be all that terrible in the scope of what the world is meant to be able to handle. :)

GM Kiora - Whenever you return from your impossibly deep well of Workplace Doom, would you mind posting your mass combat rules for me again?
It's becoming relevant in my settlement-building game.
Isilme |
I would imagine she has newer versions to offer than this by now, but in the meantime, here are the originals she shared :)
Mass Combat Options
Mass Combat Rules
She was also talking about doing simultaneous combat rounds for the players, perhaps with a ratio of 2-3 rounds of combat to one round of mass combat.

Hi friends!
Thanks Isilme - for the mass combat stuff. I've playtested that stuff a few times and the major area of grief is morale - it's a little too fickle... I want the ability to demoralize the enemy a bit more powerful than that. But I haven't really been able to fix that cause, y'know, stuff :p Rather sheepishly, I've been working on a big antibiotic project mostly out of trying to refresh my own knowledge on things - (anyone ever wonder exactly how gentamicin works? cause i can sure tell ya.) But regardless I need to better assert myself on how I juggle my freetime and not pharmacy 24/7.
I hope you guys had a fantastic Thanksgiving :) I did! But my husband is the best cook ever ;)
My life's been overtaken with pharmacy stuff as of late... and been rather complicated on top of that! It's made it very hard to focus. But blah blah blah who cares. What cares is I'm not giving up on this game and you all should know that :p
In particular, these are my last 2 weeks of working ~crazy f*$#ing hours~ and I'll be switching to hopefully a normalish schedule of 4 10s/week instead of my current randomly allocated 50+.
And I needs it! I needs it sooooo bad.
Isilme |
No problem, was happy to dig it up!
Had a great thanksgiving myself! Quiet and lots of leftovers, not much else I could ask for! :p
Sorry to hear you've been so swamped, but I understand completely! I'll probably be starting here in the next week or so, so things will get really hectic for me as well. I'm sticking this out no matter what though too :)
Hopefully your new schedule will be easier on ya!

Thanksgiving wasn't -bad-. But last Wednesday was terrible for so many reasons. Friday was extremely busy. Saturday was Recovery. Yesterday was me saying no to basically everything. :P
Goodluck with work, Kioralady, and Isilmeface.

I get paranoid about these kinds of things a lot, but I guess I should have known better. Good to see you again, Kiora. :)
Thanksgiving was pretty good, I suppose. But would any of you believe that the leftovers were somehow better than the initial meal? :P

d'awww :)
sorry but it'll take more than the JOINT COMMISSION to get rid of me :p I just got... overwhelmed. I'm sure you guys can relate :) it happens!
If you guys have any doubts as to how much I love this game my new work password is some alphanumeric variation on "wrathoftherighteous" XD

well duh!
turkey sandwiches are the best part of this time of year ;)
not so good - having a whole pumpkin pie in my fridge and having to resist the urge to eat it all in one night :(

Leftovers are totally the point! :)

We had small apple tarts which worked really well, enough for dessert for a few days, delicious, and not quite as tempting as a huge slice of pie :o
Hinagiku |
Welcome back Kiora!
Sadly, no thanksgiving here, so I don't have yummy leftovers :( I am especially jealous of the pumpkin pie!
Markus Coffinborn |
I had thanksgiving with one of my housemates. No turkey, no pumpkin pie, but we did have BBQ pulled pork sandwiches (homemade) and champagne.
Valaria Alazario |
Roasted turkey, homemade mash potatoes, hand made stuffing, pumpking pie... my family does Thanksgiving really traditionally.
Ary Bishop |
If my folks did barbecue pulled pork, I'd probably be a much bigger fan of Thanksgiving. The turkey is always super dry. The desserts are amazing, though. This year, we only had something like 15 dishes. Which is about 2/3 the normal amount. Sadly, most of it came out of my stuff :( No broccoli, no cranberry sauce, no banana pudding. ;~; Not really much to complain about, other than having to help cook. Which I really didn't have to do much of.
As for network passwords, I'm sure folks could figure it out based on the name of my network: Navisys.

15 dishes? What the hell, that's too much food.
I'm all for Thanksgiving and all but... jeez. Land of the plenty.
Luckily for me, I didn't have thanksgiving with my folks. I made the pulled pork myself!

No dessert this year, but between the cornbread pudding and sweet potato casserole, dinner was basically half dessert anyway. :P
Ary Bishop |
Yeah. There's a reason I try to talk my family out of Thanksgiving every year. Several, actually, and one of them is the bill :p
My sister's family always gets about 3/4 of the food, so I don't know exactly how much goes to waste... but I'd say roughly half of the things that I don't really like wind up trashed. :(
On the other hand, the rolls were gone on day 2, as was the gravy. We've only got one apple pie left, and a slice of stack cake. I haven't even seen the pumpkin cheesecake... hm. Most of the Stuffing is gone, as well. :)
My desires for Thanksgiving: Cranberry something. Rolls. Gravy. Broccoli. And Ary is happy.
Banana pudding is a huge plus, and it's like... everyone's favorite. So no idea why we didn't have it ;~;
Also, also, I'm Team Willow when it comes to ritualistic sacrifice day. :)

This sounds awesome D:
I am so jelly.
The turkey is always super dry.
Try brining the turkey for a solid 24 hours before you cook it :)
The science behind brining is awesome!
Basically, brining is just soaking meat in super salty water. So if you take things down to the cellular level, this means that the water in the solute (the brine) is more concentrated in salt ions than what is inside the cells of the meat. This means that water will initially move out of the cells into the brine. Meanwhile, the brine is full of salt ions - Na+ and Cl-, which pass through small pore proteins on the cellular membranes of the meat into the cell until the concentration of ions reaches equilibrium... roughly the same inside the cells and in the brine. In a normal, living turkey those pore proteins are carefully controlled to allow ions into cell... this is necessary for muscles to work at all :)
But of course the turkey is dead so they sag open all broken. Sad broken protein doors :(
The salt ions then move into the cell and break down the muscle proteins inside - denaturing them - causing them to crumple up and distort - sometimes even break apart. Now the concentration of solutes inside of the cells is higher than what is outside (cause of the dissolved protein bits)! And water will come back into the cells - into the meat - and gets trapped inside of the muscle proteins as they crumple into matrices. So now it can't escape :O!
The meat then retains more water after cooking by simple virtue of having more than what it did normally. You can observe this yourself - weigh meat before and after brining. There will be a significant weight increase due to the absorbed water :o
And then you can be pleased with yourself for knowing the SCIENCE behind it all haha ;D
Ary Bishop |
One of my friends told me I would like his family's turkey for the exact same reason. But with roughly 0% of the science. :P
