Hi there! Welcome to the Starfinder Society scenario 1-00 - Claim to Salvation which will start on September 4 2017, as part of PBP Gameday VI.

I first want to get some house rules out of the way so we have a common understanding. I assume you will have read this.

Please take notice of the following:

  • I expect everyone to be supportive of each other, we are exploring a new ruleset and I expect that we will make mistakes. That is no issue, as long as we keep the communication open.
  • For combats, I will roll initiative in one block, and will handle the actions in that order. You are free to state your actions, if they haven't been invalidated your character will proceed according to that, if it's not a possible course of action anymore, I will PM you or try to adjust your action in a similar fashion.
  • I expect you to use the appropriate lines (Race, Classes / Levels and Gender) to give me vital information (AC, Saves etc) about your character. You can take a look at my characters for an example.
  • I attempt to post at least twice a day during weekdays and at least once during the weekend. When I do not post: I have not forgotten about you, life/work has thrown a wrench in my gaming schedule.
  • For decision making purposes: when two characters agree on a course of action we will go with their decision.
  • And most important: this is a game and I expect us all to have fun while playing! If something causes you not to have fun: please address it (either here or in a PM) and I will do my utmost to get you back to having fun again.

Once the information is available, fill in the things down below:

Chronicle: What chronicle number this is for the character.
History: What scenarios has the character completed? (or been credited with); any other chronicles (special boons etc).
Name: (The player's) Real name (or how you want it to appear on your chronicle sheets).
AKA: Character name.
Faction: The faction you are slotting for this scenario.
SFS: # for the character.
XP: starting XP.
Fame: Starting fame.
Reputation: Starting reputation.
Gold: Starting wealth you bring into the adventure. This should be the total on your previous chronicle and the total before you make other purchases.
Dayjob: Skill used + the roll.
Apply adventure credit: For this scenario you can choose to apply credit once your character hits level 4 or to a newly-created 1st-level character, in the latter reducing the credits reward to 720.

Finally, here we'll find the Pregenerated SFS Characters, each can be in the table more than once, but having a diverse groups is recommended.

Hey guys! I'm super excited to begin playing organized play. I LOVE scifi settings and I'm pumped that Paizo made one.

@GM I agree with all those points you made. I follow the same when GMing here on the boards. I've GMed quite a bit here for the past 4 years. I'm currently on Book 4 of Iron Gods, about halfway through Curse of Strahd and about 1/3 through Dragon's Demand. In the past I've run all of the Darkmoon Vale modules as well as a bunch of other stuff set in Andoran.

I was under the assumption that we could play in 00 with our own character OR a pregen?

Hello and welcome Nalun =)

You may be mixing up SFS 1-00 Special - Claim to Salvation with SFS Quest - Into the Unknown.

Also the Quest is replayable, while 1-00 is not replayable.

ooo So we are picking 4th level pregens for Claim to Salvation. And we apply XP/Loot towards another SFS character?

I've never played PFS so I'm honestly a newb when it comes to such things. I do have some familiarity with organized play through 5E adventurers league, but only a little (My character is level 3)

That's correct, you will be playing with a level 4 pregenerated character, but one of your own will get the credit and benefits. You can either wait to apply it once you PC hits level 4 for full gold, or apply it immediately to a level 1 PC that has no other credit applied to it.

And don't worry about being new to SFS, we all are, and I know you can rely on the experience we all have with PFS =).

I've been looking through the pregens and I like the Operative, the Solarion or the Mystic. I'd like to know how the Solarion's melee damage is so high though 1d6+1d3+6, that seems high for a STR bonus +2

Altronus' Solar weapon has a base of 1d6, he gets an additional +1d3 from the least Graviton Crystal, then +2 damage from the Strength modifier and finally the Solarian gains Weapon Specialization as a bonus feat at level 3, which adds the the character's level as an untyped bonus to damage.

So, 1d6+1d3+2+4, and could get an extra +2 when attuned to photon mode via Plasma Sheath.

Hello everyone, hello GM Khaoz, I'm super excited to be here, but I am also super unprepared as I'm trying to rush through the Starfinder book to understand what it is that I can do and should do. And I haven't been able to look at the SFS guide as of yet.

As a brand new guy, I would ask, do you have a format for the stat block that you want displayed?

Also, I know that this will go on my -701 but I have no clue what his name will be, or what class, etc... Do all those fields need to be filled out?

I think I would like to play the Soldier based on the local feedback I'm getting from people who have payed more attention to the blogposts than me. Is that OK with everyone? I'm likely to be the guy dragging you down.

Heh, hardly Upaynao....I'm VERY new to organized play. And everyone is new to Starfinder.

If I play the Solarion and you play the Soldier we would just need a couple skillzy players and we would be set to go.

@GM Thanks! I think I was missing the Weapon Specialization Feat.

Grand Lodge

Hey Upaynao! With only a week out there, we are all new to this game =)

So don't sweat it, we'll figure out everything you all need together.

I have no preference about the stat block, whatever works for you, I can certainly figure it out.

About names, class, etc, it certainly is not needed right now. That's why I said =).

Just to look at the sheet information item by item, example for an new level-1 PC:

  • Chronicle number: ONLY IF IT WILL NOT BE NUMBER 1, for example, if you have a race boon or you have a Welcome to Starfinder boon. (I haven't seen any but after GenCon there are some in the wild now).
  • Name: (The player's) Real name (or how you want it to appear on your chronicle sheets).
  • AKA: Character name, if you don't have it, I can leave it blank.
  • Faction: For this scenario we won't slot a faction. But you can still gain Fame and Reputation for a faction you hold a Champion Boon (first one's free).
  • SFS: # for the character, this is YOURID-701.
  • XP: starting XP, if completely new it's 0.
  • Fame: Starting fame, if completely new it's 0.
  • Reputation: Starting reputation, if completely new it's 0.
  • Credit: Starting wealth you bring into the adventure, for new characters I'll leave it at 1000, so you can complete ALL OF YOUR PURCHASES either after the scenario so I can sign them off for your, or on your next game, so the next GM will sign it off.
  • Dayjob: Skill used + the roll.
  • Apply adventure credit: Basically, you can choose to get 720 credits on an unplayed level-1, or wait until your PC hits level-4 to get full credits amount.

I'm here for two things, first, I'll post a link to the Welcome to Starfinder Society Boon for your first SFS Character. Since we are not able to use them for this scenario, remember that ANY GM can sign it for you. This is Tonya's blank copy, if you need it signed for, I'll take care of that for you. =)

Welcome to Starfinder Society Boon

Per the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide, page 46-

*A player may apply the Welcome to Starfinder boon to their first character (XXX-701)

Notes:
This boon does not need to be the first boon applied to the character. While designed for new characters, it is helpful at any stage of playing. It may not be applied to any other number character.

Second, we had another two players sign up, I hope they show up here shortly, as always, I'm here for all your doubts and questions.

Happy gaming!

Thank you for reading up Ben

Yes, you can apply the credit to Defi as a level 1 with 720 credits instead of the chronicle sheet amount, so you are correct.

@Everyone: it seems there a few doubts about Dayjob checks, so I'll be posting the Dayjob stuff from the guide later, so we can discuss it if needed.

Hey y'all, I'm excited to join you! If nobody has a problem with it, I'll be playing the technomancer. I'll make an alias for the Pregen before Monday.

PS: Has anyone found a good PbP character template for SFS yet? I'm not against making one up off my PFS one but, I don't want to recreate the wheel.

Hey everyone! I just signed up and got the go-ahead from our generous GM to join up for this adventure. I am band new to SFS (I would assume most if not all of us are). I have played in PFS for about 2 months (exclusive to PBP) now and have been playing face to face Pathfinder (homebrews) for probably close to 6 years I think.

I am unsure of what I will play yet. I haven't really read the pre-gens yet. So far we have a soldier, a technomancer, an operative, a machinic, and a mystic? Did i miss anyone? That leaves envoy and Solarion as unpicked characters? Ill look into them and post tonight. If I missed anything, please let me know!

It does look like it, although I was pretty sure someone had called the Solarion early on? Perhaps that was in the prior thread though.

The person playing the mystic said they would play healer or solarion but they made their character a mystic so I assumed that's what they want. If they prefer they can switch to solarion, I don't mind. Up to them.

Grand Lodge

Hi, we might be having a 7th player. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case the player shows up. I expect that having a 7th player won't be as hard to deal with in PbP as it is in F2F, and I didn't want to deny anyone a chance to have fun =).

If nothing falls out of place, we'll be starting the proper scenario in about 42 hours from this post.

Just as a reminder, we can have repeated Pregens. If it's easier for you, you can change the gender and name of these Pregens, just don't change the stats.

With ALL that said, are you ready to begin the fun?

I'm the other recruit. If vlaonich88 woudn't mind I'll pick the envoy

Grand Lodge

Just to be clear, if you want to repeat roles, there's nothing that prohibits that =)

Otherwise, having 7 different players play 7 different Pregens, will require some juggling (or a miracle of sorts =P)

If we have repeats, we can simply call one or both by a different name and there's no harm done.

I think it would be fun to have us each play a different thing. I can read over the solarion pre-gen and decide if it will be any fun if not, I might have us have another soldier (never a bad thing to have additional muscle).

The solarion seems like he could be fun (maybe not how I would build him... but fun). He should be interesting to role play. I'll for the gameplay thread with my correct alias either tonight or tomorrow morning.

I also think is more fun to have different characters, but if it's too jugginling I can change this avatar for another solarian. If we attune diferently we'll have enough differences I think.

I wanted to be clear about the payday. Since we are playing SFS the characters don't really get whatever the adventure calls for, but whatever the Chronicle Sheet says, I just wanted to be clear about this to avoid any confusion with any new to Society players.

Asking in game for RP is awesome, I just wanted to clarify in case we had someone new to Society Play (either), to know that those 10K won't be on the actual sheet.

I'd like to make a habit of explaining when my posting time is far more spread than I expected, I don't want you to feel that this game will slow down in any significant way.

I usually check the campaign between 10AM and 11 AM, my time, and make the first post of the day if real life hasn't thrown a curve ball in the morning. Then check again about 4 hours later, that's food time =). If possible I check again before leaving for home, sometime before 7PM. Make it home and deal with errands. So I can start building the lengthier posts that make it through around 11PM, and we start all over again.
(For reference it's 11PM where I'm at =P)

With that said, today I got swamped at work from the moment I set a foot in the threshold to the moment I left (one hour late).

A bit more on topic, we are moving at a great speed. We are about to catch up on a game in the same scenario that started last week.
I didn't post anything earlier in the morning, because when I checked in, there were only 3 new posts at the time, and I wanted to let your interactions happen before chiming in. And then wasn't able to come back in, until now.

I've learned that PbP is the perfect place roleplay a bit, instead of rollplaying through combats.

Right, I have been in groups who have been really fun with tons of role-play but wow did the group move slow because of it. And over groups that rush through role-playing. This group seems to have a nice balance. This story moment is fun because it introduces the characters (I didn't read the backstories for anyone but my character) and makes sure everyone checks in to make sure we all are still active. I like it. Thanks again for taking the time to run this!
