Welcome one and welcome all! To SFS Special 1-99 - The Scoured Stars Invasion which will start on August 13 2018, as part of PBP Gameday VII.
I first want to get some house rules out of the way so we have a common understanding. I assume you will have read this.
Please take note of the following:
- I expect everyone to be supportive of each other, it's possible that combat/starship timing can cause mistakes or confusion. It will not be an issue, as long as we keep the communication open.
- For combats, I will roll initiative in one block, and will handle the actions in that order. You are free to state your actions, if they haven't been invalidated your character will proceed according to that, if it's not a possible course of action anymore, (like the last enemy in range dying), I will PM you or try to adjust your action in a similar fashion.
- I attempt to post at least twice a day during weekdays and at least once during the weekend. When I do not post: I have not forgotten about you, life/work has thrown a wrench in my gaming schedule.
- For decision making purposes: when the first two characters agree on a course of action we will go with their decision.
- And most important: this is a game and I expect us all to have fun while playing! If something causes you not to have fun: please address it (either here or in a PM) and I will do my utmost to get you back to having fun again.

Yeah, I don't like most of the tokens available here, I'll find something suitable for combat maps.

I'll just use the pregen android's picture? I like him.

The following is a compilation of the rewards you've earned through the tasks in the Preparation. I'll make a Spoiler out of every Leader/VC. And I'll have them updated to whatever you have unlocked/improved.
- Thankful for the assistance, Historia-7 shares a priority code that allows the PCs to divert CPU power from a carrier to their starship, granting them a +4 bonus to any one Computers check during starship combat. Alternatively, a PC can use this code on a ground mission, allowing that PC to count as being trained in Computers for one check.
- In place of the reward above, when a PC fails a Computers check, they may activate the reward to reroll the check with a +4 bonus.
- When the PCs use either of the rewards above, they can roll twice on the Computers check, take the better result, and add a +4 bonus to it.
- Thankful for the help, the chief engineer installs a special boost switch in the PCs’ ship. Once during the adventure, the PCs can flip the switch to add +4 to all the Engineering and Piloting checks made during the same round in starship combat.
- In place of the reward above, the PCs can force the crew of an enemy ship to take a –2 penalty to all Engineering and Piloting checks made during the round. The use of this ability must be declared at the start of the starship combat round.
- Radaszam thanks the PCs for their help. Once during the adventure, each PC can requisition a weapon with an item level up to the PC’s level ]1 for the duration of one mission. The group must use this ability prior to starting a new encounter, and this ability cannot be used during Part 4. The weapon comes with a fully charged battery or full magazine.
- In addition to the reward above, the PCs can also requisition a single consumable item with an item level equal to the PC’s level. These consumables cannot have permanent effects, and PCs who do not use them during the course of the scenario must return them at the end of the adventure.
- Pleased with the PCs’ efficiency, Zigvigix has some special ordnance loaded in the PCs’ starship. Once during the adventure, the party gains a +2 bonus to all the PCs’ attack rolls during that round, and those attacks do not consume ammunition in the case of a weapon with the limited fire property.
- In place of the reward above, select any one successful starship weapon attack to count as a critical hit if it hits, even if the die result isn’t a natural 20.
- The overall morale improves, and the PCs can rely on their allies to help them when the going gets rough. Once during the adventure, the group can gain the benefit of aid another (+2 bonus) to all skill checks and attack rolls for 1 round.
- In place of the reward above, once during the adventure, when the table uses an Aid Token, they get two benefits instead of one, but cannot choose the same effect twice.
- Going through the information gives the PCs a good idea of what type of monsters they might face: misshapen abominations, carnivorous plants, dead things, megafauna, robots, terrible extraplanar beings, and worse. The PCs can reroll one check to recall knowledge about any creature they encounter within the Scoured Stars.
- Once during the adventure, the PCs can instead activate this reward to gain a +2 bonus to each of their initiative checks for that encounter. Unlike most rewards, they can choose to do this after rolling initiative but before the combat begins.
- When the group fights something they’ve identified with a skill check using the recall knowledge use of that skill and the party activates this reward, each PC gains a +4 bonus to their initiative check instead of the +2 bonus for activating this reward.
I'll repost this list whenever you use one of the boosts, deleting the used ones.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I've used them in PFS multi-specials, but I don't know if there's any difference for SFS.
In PFS, Aid tokens are things passed from table to table and represent help from other passing parties, especially higher level ones. You can use an aid token to get extra damage, bonuses on skill checks, gain healing, or bardic performances. Once you use an aid token, you pass it along. You can also boost them instead of using them by using up a resource or making certain checks. If you boost them, the option you boost becomes more powerful and you pass the token along.
In general, the best thing is not to save an aid token, but to use it/boost it and pass it along. The more the whole special uses aid tokens, the more they are passed around and the more chance you get one multiple times.
Zoicoluu |
Radazam - Quick question about requisitioning an item, once a PC gets an item, is it available for all adventures after it has been requisitioned or just the adventure it was requisitioned for?
Used Aid Tokens in PFS specials before, agree with LA6439F's (Ella's) points.
6ix |
I'm guessing at least at some point there will be ship combat, so we should probably hash out stations.
Zoicoluu seems like a good choice for Captain.
Spanner seems like a lock for engineering.
LA64397F would be a good choice for computers/science.
THE UMBRAL DAWN looks like a good choice for gunner.
I seem the best choice for pilot, unless I've missed something.
Centian could fill a number of roles, that's about the only one I'm less sure of.
Suggestions/modifications?
THE Umbral Dawn |
I think its always good to have two gunners whenever possible. Usually we can be positioned so that one gunner can fire in an arc and the other can use the turret gun.
GM Khaoz |
Apologies! I had ISP issues last night and today the forum goblins were rejecting all my posts like Shaq on the Defense. Hopefully the goblins have been tamed now.
Now..
@Ella: Thanks for picking up the Aid Tokens Question, that's one hell of a wrap up. (I couldn't make it shorter if I tried)
@Zoicoluu: For Radaszam Reward, ONCE during the Adventure, each PC can request ONE weapon (Item level = PC Level +1) that will last for ONE Mission. Each PC can request ONE consumable (Item level = PC Level) ONCE during the Adventure, that will last until used or the Adventure ends. By definition, the Adventure is the 1-99 Scenario.
LA64397F |
I just don't know what options the aid tokens have. I guess we'll learn that if we get one. Somehow I doubt Bardic Inspire Courage or Lesser Restoration will be options for SFS.
LA64397F |
I support the rule of 2. While a minority, it helps keep the game going, which is usually more important than whatever choice we are making.
GM Khaoz |
Ok.. Server goblins have locked most of us out for the day.. Apparently they've been tamed now.
Rules for this part are not very well explained in the extracts, I'll try to do a recap for future phases. Each PC can either attempt the Main Skill Check OR an Aid Another check for each step/phase. In this case since Spanner has succeeded on the Computers check, any further Computer Skill Checks or Aid rolls won't make a difference at all. The rest of you can either try Aiding/Rolling for Culture/Sense Motive. Since everything happens too fast and there could be dangers that have not been made known, Taking 10 is not allowed for this kind of rolls.
When one of you succeeds at any Check, we can assume that you'll be sharing that information with the rest of the crew ASAP, so you can all peek in, or you can make a post In Character to relay that info down the line.
I was doing this in Gameplay and realized it would turn into a blue wall of text, so I switched over to Discussion.

Word from our overseer =)
Due to the website maintenance and outages players will not lose any time on the Special. We understand that it is a timed event and set aside a small space for wiggle room. I will be extending Part 1 out by the day that we lost.*
*Subject to change based on any more outages.

So... we're almost done with combat, and in order to try and keep things moving.
(8)Do you want to build a snowman choose a mission?(8)
It doesn't have to be a mission. (?)
Actually, it does, but I'm just singing crazy here.
