GM Kate |
As Silt approaches, the red choker's readied action goes off. He latches on the locathah, trying to squeeze the breath out of him.

That would have happened before your attack, Silt. What would you like to do?
Cedar Cruise |
Cedar moves in and summons Mitzi!
Mitzi flanks red with Joli and tries to bite.
Poodle Bite!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
GM Kate |
I don't think Joli and Mitzi flank there since Joli is high up on the wall, but Mitzi misses regardless.
Just need a new action from Silt, since he can't attack with a two-handed weapon while grappled.
Cedar Cruise |
Ah, ok, I didn't realize. Must not have read carefully.
GM Kate |
No worries, Cedar. It's hard to tell elevation on the map!
The blue one moves past the pillar to lash out at Cedar, but can't connect.

it’s hard to manipulate the map from my phone. The critter’s in the right spot, but I accidentally flipped it upside down. Can someone fix it?
Cedar Cruise |
Done! But I don’t like where that one is at...
Prince Joli Toli |
Round 3
Joli leaps over to the stalagmite and makes his way down to flank with the blue, taking a path that puts him in the creatures' reach only at the last moment. He gives the baby choker (Blue) a revolted lick.

Purpose Creche |
Purpose Creche dashes around the ice-covered body and into the chamber, drawing his sword and sending green light glimmering through the cavern. He position himself between the choker and the northwestern tunnel, hoping to cut off its escape.
Double move!
Prince Joli Toli |
Round 4
Joli draws his rapier and readies to choke the choker with its point should someone step into flank (or just does so if someone is already flanking).
Rapier: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 2 = 11
Not so much with the ouch!: 1d4 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) - 1 + (3) = 4
I haven't deliberately said he has his rapier out while spelunking, but if you think it's safe to assume he'd have it drawn, then that'd be great!
Tobias "Toby" Hawthorn |
"Let go of Silt, you jerk!"
Toby moves to get a clear shot, so he doesn't have to avoid Mitzi, then fires.
kinetic blast, pbs: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 1 = 17

Removed blue from the map.
GM Kate |
As the choker struggles to keep hold of Silt, it can't avoid Toby's blast. Hit, thanks to the grappling penalties!
Cedar and Mitzi left to go.

But misses!
GM Kate |
That is a miss! Unless there is another attack from Cedar coming this round, go ahead and read the first spoiler.
GM Kate |
Actually, it failed to maintain the grapple, so no more damage to Silt! Yay! Everyone is up!
Purpose Creche |
Purpose Creche skirts the choker's flailing arm to flank it with Joli. The glittering green blade slashes in at the creature, turning to the side at the last second to smash, rather than slice, its exposed side.
+1 longsword+4 +2 flanking –4 nonlethal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Purpose Creche |
Purpose Creche considers his sword. "No blood. At least one success, Joli." He sheathes the blade, and the green tinge fades from the silvery light of the four orbs over his shoulders.
"Did anyone understand what they said when they attacked?"
Prince Joli Toli |
Joli waits for a flank and then attempts to strike with his rapier. The choker evades his thrust, only to run into Purpose’s blade.
1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 10
"I did not understand them. Twould seem the spoke of murder or mayhap of defending their créche."
Purpose Creche |
Purpose Creche's head bobs in and out of his coat's high collar. "Little harm in incapacitating some. There may be things to learn. But if none understand their language, and they are intentionally aggressive." Purpose Creche unsheathes his small dagger. "They can be dispatched." He turns the blade in his hand. "The same hand that facilitates life can take it. Like the Lady of Graves."
I don't feel the need to play out a whole 'nother scene, but I'm not opposed. The chokers have attacked us first before, we can't understand them, and they seem to represent a danger with no means of rehabilitation. Purpose Creche is fine with dispatching them.
Prince Joli Toli |
Joli considers. "We can’t permit them to assault the village, and yet we can’t speak with them to see if they can hear reason. Was the other one first to attack?" Joli examines the unconscious chokers. They do look murderous and foul. He considers and frowns. "If there is no way to sue for peace, let’s make sure they won’t be a danger."
Purpose Creche |
Purpose Creche nods. "It set upon us almost immediately. So my task is clear. Excuse this unpleasantness." He looks to the others to make sure they agree with what needs to be done, then quickly moves between each choker. Afterwards, he cleans and sheathes the dagger.
"Let's make sure other dangers don't lurk beneath our feet." He searches the remains and the room, then moves to the southwestern passage.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Prince Joli Toli |
Joli gasps as Purpose thrusts. "I thought we could at least wake them and try to gesture..." Still, he does not move to stay the construct’s hand. Were they charau-ka I’d be the first to cut.
Cedar Cruise |
”There may yet be more in the cave,” Cedar says in a hushed voice. ”We should hurry while Mitzi is still with us.”
Mitzi stays for 2 minutes, unless you think 2 minutes would be over by now Kate.
Prince Joli Toli |
Joli nods and puts his finger to his lips for silence. He then takes to the walls, creating quietly into the chamber to the south.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Prince Joli Toli |
But not before healing Silt up. Whatcha need, Nemo?
GM Kate |
Mitzi can hang around for another combat. I mean, there’s definitely nothing else in this cavern!
And on that note, can I get a Stealth roll from the scout once the healing is handled?
Prince Joli Toli |
3 charges. Stealth roll above if that’s okay. Or...
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Less great...
GM Kate |
No, we can use the first one! I just missed it somehow.

The walls of this cave are slick with moisture, and the smell of rotted meat fills the air. This cavern is slightly smaller (10 foot roof), and Joli does not hear or see any sign of life.
I moved you into the first part of the cave. How would you like to proceed to the second?
Cedar Cruise |
I moved Cedar and Mitzi up. Cedar has his rapier drawn.
Prince Joli Toli |
Joli climbs up on the walls (I think DC 20?), taking the eastern wall into the room.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
GM Kate |
I moved Joli back a little bit based on what's in there, but you can reposition more if you'd like.
As everyone clusters into the first part of this cavern, Joli silently scales the wall and sneaks in. Alerted by the party's noise, two adult chokers stand in wait on each side of the cave's opening, ready to attack whoever enters. They don't seem to detect the grippli quietly moving above their heads.
What would you like to do?
Purpose Creche |
The last engagement almost started with Joli surrounded, so Purpose Creche edges towards the tunnel opening, splinter and sword at the ready. Moved myself ~10 feet up on the map.
Prince Joli Toli |
Joli backs up and hops over to the other hooked entrance to the room. He holds up two fingers, points to the choker babies, and holds his hands up parallel to each other, first narrowly and then widely. He then points to Silt and Purpose and to the spaces in front of the room entrance.
Once the party signals readiness, he sings a prayer and touched the very corner of the hooked lip, lighting it up.
Purpose Creche |
Seeing Joli's signal, Purpose Creche puts a hand on his iron waistband; the Azlanti blade's light shifts from green to pale blue. Using legacy weapon on the sword, aberration bane for 1 minute.
GM Kate |
Great! Anyone who wants to retroactively pre-buff May do so. Is someone going to try to sneak for a surprise round, or are you storming the gates?
Purpose Creche |
Purpose Creche nods up at Joli, conveying his readiness.
I think storming the gates? Aside from Joli I don't believe any of us are terribly sneaky.

Storm the gates, indeed! If someone could move the group up to the cave opening, that would be awesome.
Purpose Creche |
I assume they can't make AoOs 'cause they're flat footed, so acting accordingly.
Seeing Silt grip his spear and take an aggressive stance, Purpose Creche dashes into the room. A crouched purple choker comes into view on his right when he rounds the corner. He shifts weight to his right foot and executes a spinning hop, passing the creature and bringing the glittering blue blade in an arc across its side. He stumbles a bit when he lands, but his brief time with Antona Sedgewick seems to've born results.

Tobias "Toby" Hawthorn |
Toby looks puzzled for a moment at Joli's hand signals before a look of embarrassed comprehension crosses his face.
Bigger ones. Duh, Toby.
He gives a thumbs-up, signaling his readiness, but is still caught by surprise when the rest of the part launches into the room. Oof, last in initiative.
GM Kate |
Correct, flat-footed. There’s no surprise round on either part, so initiative represents who’s faster on the draw as you all barrel in.
Purpose’s preparation pays off as he easily connects with the adult choker. She growls angrily, and swears loudly in Undercommon.
Prince Joli Toli |
