Doh! Just lost a lengthy post in response.

To put it succinctly, it sounds like we're fine with something like this:

- Trying for diplomacy with sentient creatures that our PCs don't know to be
evil incarnate
- Using lethal force to defend ourselves

I'd also propose:

- Not executing foes the PCs defeat who haven't died in the course of
battle, unless our PCs know them to be irredeemable

(Maybe Kate can help us find a hand-waivy way to deal with that until we're ready to explore Azlantis.)

You're all totally right that this is a conversation best done during Session 0, and I'm grateful to you all for entertaining my concerns as a late-comer to the game. You all are fine people. I am also excited to get to the exploring Azlant part.

I do have some further thoughts philosophically, which I'd intended to put in a spoiler for those interested in discussing further. Maybe I'll just post something on the boards elsewhere later on.

Yeah. I don't think executions are always necessary. It was an interesting thing to explore once, but now I'm fine hand-waving all that gory out-of-combat stuff.

Then again… Silt is totally fine stabilizing enemies after battle, and leaving them to wake up in fields of red raspberries… totally, horribly evil, right!? :D

Nonmundane loots from the cave:

    I assume we'll try to figure out who they belong to along with the flask and tea set. I'm interested in the cloak, but I have a question. If I have the splinter in one hand and the sword in another, could I grab the cloak with the splinter hand, as long as I don't use the splinter until I release the cloak?

    Going on a hunt for Rayland seems like a lot of fun. I'm not sure we have the resources for that yet though. I don't think we have another boat, do we? I don't know how far away these other islands might be. although I can see them on the map.

    The zombie-fied lumberjack makes me think survivors could have fled inland. Maybe Silt can try talking to some animals again, to see if they've seen any survivors? I don't remember what day it is now. or how many days we've been here :s

    Do you guys think the poltergeist can be a resource for information in any way? Cedar doesn't really have a good way to interact with it.

    Also, while I don't necessarily want to disturb the crysmals, the crystals might be interesting and work a closer look.

    I think both Silt and Joli can do some travcking, especially with the help of Deadeye Lore. Honestly if I was on a strange island I might stick to traversing the beaches. And the added bonus of tracks being washed away if I’m being followed.

    I agree, the beaches make a lot of sense and are probably not too hard for us to search. I can think of a couple other possible scenarios too. Maybe the supply ship came and picked them up as they were hoping it would. Or, maybe they will come to us if they see that we’ve arrived. They should have known to expect a second wave of villagers. They knew after all that Rayland was just the temporary leader until Ramona arrived.

    No divinations for me, yet. Next level I'll get an augury-equivalent focus power, and potentially locate object. Gotta think on spells known.

    I assume if Rayland or Una are still around, they're hiding out somewhere. Una seems like a mutineer, but we still have no clue why Rayland peaced out. I know folks said he was an Eagle Knight, but the ghost's issues with him makes me think he was a Bad Dude.

    No particularly useful divinations yet. I think for now skills are what we’re lacking. Disable device being the top most. But we have Survivaal for tracking and can use it. Joli can also cast Speak with Animals.

    I think speak with animals is actually prettt dope here. We could go from island to island, then have Joli/Silt cast it and ask about seeing humans near the beaches. Could potentially do one island a day depending on how far they are.

    Andrew, do you want to hand wave searching because you don’t think it won’t be fun, or is too tedious or because you think the missing villagers are dead?

    I’m into the idea of longer excursions away from he village. Maybe camping will be important, like in Ryuutama! I like that kind of thing, especially as we don’t often get to do it in PFS.

    I don't have any particular aversion to having some detailed search scenes. It's more that I'm assuming we have a ton of area to cover, so playing out each day's (or however long) search scene seems like it'd slow the PbP pace a lot.

    We could always get lucky on the first try, though!

    I think given the availability of magic to aid our search, as well as the imperative to protect lives, spending some initial search time would make sense. At least ask the animals around the settlement and do some magically enhanced tracking.

    What do folks want to do about Harcourt and Luetin fighting over this house? We should probably discuss. Does anyone have a strong opinion one way or another? I don't.

    Cedar is somewhat selfish, so if there's some way he can gain, or the party, then all the better. But he isn't doing to immediately rely on rules or laws or even conventional norms to solve the situation. He'd hate to see tings come to violence though.

    He'd kind of like to take the wind out of Harcort's sails, as he doesn't like anyone who thinks they're better than everyone else. But there's probably a better opportunity for that.
