After awakening, Aerel spends an hour in meditation on the words of his spell book, flipping quietly through the pages. When he finishes, he rises and looks about the room. Another night without you, beloved. Well, at least others need not suffer... Abruptly, he notices his own smell, and he wrinkles his nose, then sighs. Would that I could've bathed since last night... or changed.

In time, he supposes, he will need to address the others... but for the time being, he remains content to sit in silence, waiting for all to awaken.

Tossing and turning for much of the night. One moment she is back in that alley and the next her eyes open to the dusty house of Zellara. Slowly pushing herself into a sitting position and looking around, "The riots are over?"

Waiting for some sort of response before getting up and peaking outside before checking on the children.

While the others wake up and go about their routine, Marvel collects his things and lifts up Alana to set her onto his shoulders. Marvel looks relaxed, calm - and most of all, he looks happy. His daughter is back, safe, and he need never worry about Lamm again.

Clearing his throat so as to get everyone's attention, Marvel begins "I... I think it is best I leave now. I don't know what we are meant to do, but, well, I'm no hero. I'm a father. And as a father I have a duty first and foremost to my children and... and to my wife, who I have neglected for far too long."

Walking over to Emma, Marvel takes out his harrow card, "The Dance", from his pocket and hands it to Emma - "I... this will serve you better than me. Speaking in Varisian, Marvel continues "While I find your culture absolutely fascinating and important, I don't think I'll ever fully understand it - understand what happened here yesterday. But if any Varisian, or anyone else you know, ever encounters legal problems, do feel free to send them my way. And once again, thank you. What you've done for me and my family I can never repay."

Smiling, Marvel turns to the rest of the group - "I'll never forget any of you. I think... I think it is best if the authorities don't learn of my involvement. I have a bad feeling about all of this. If you ever need a safe place, a place to hide, then don't be afraid to knock on my door. I'm too... I'm too boring for anyone to suspect me of anything. Sometimes it is good to be boring."

Turning to each of the remaining party members in turn, Marvel looks to Nicholas "Thank you for your help. Killing Lamm - it can't be easy, but know that you have saved dozens of people and, more importantly, my daughter and the children here. You did good."

Turning to Shaeda, Marvel continues "And thank you. You have the temper and sting of a wasp, which I suspect a Calistrian like yourself will take as a compliment. You saved me in there with that beast, healing me like that. I'm glad I'm not in that alligators stomach, even if that means I probably have to revise my cosy prejudices about Calistria and her followers.", Marvel ends with a bit of a devious smile.

And finally turning to Aerel, Marvel almost hugs him before realising Alana probably will fall off his back if he does so, so he extends out his hand - "Thank you, Aerel. If you hadn't dazed that Alligator, then it'd probably have dragged me down under the water. I... I'm really sorry she's gone, that Khara is gone. She was a light in the grey and foggy world of Korvosa. But I think she would be proud of you - glad that you made a difference, saved this many people. Thank you - thank you for saving my daughter and me."

Smiling at Marvel, "I wish you and your family the best of luck to you and your family. I have no issue never mentioning you to the guard. And I hope I have need to trouble your door step."

"Your thanks are appreciated, Master Manyshot, and you are most welcome. I trust you will look after yourself and your family." Aerel says softly, shaking the human's hand.

Poor man. He has been deeply troubled by these events, it seems, and wants to be there to provide security for his family and his folk. He releases Marvel's hand, stepping back. Hm. I wonder if... no, that would be unfair to him.

He flicks his ear, inclining his head respectfully to the lawyer. "Be well. I imagine that troubled times will be ahead... but I wish prosperity and good fortunes upon you all."

"Once again - thank you all. It has been a wonderful experience, and were circumstances otherwise I would have liked to continue on with you." Turning to Nicholas, Marvel looks serious for a moment, before the smile resumes "I will, Nicholas. Now that I know what it is to lose them... I most certainly will treasure them."

And with that, Marvel and Alana leave, making sure to duck when going out the door so Alana won't hit her head.

All is quiet in the early morning and I wander around trying to find the right place. Every now and then I look at my mysterious note, thrn put it back in my pouch before looking for the correct place again. I finally find it, take a quiet breath and knock on the door.

Knock, knock, knock!

Nicholas sits at the window, even after Marvel leaves, still thinking as the kids begin to waken.

He jumps as a knock sounds on the door, having seen no one approach. Glancing at the others with a frown, Nicholas draws his blade and moves to the door. Taking a breath Nicholas jerks it open quickly with his blade extended.

His gaze quickly drops from eye-level when he realizes it is a halfling at the door. "What do you need?" Nicholas asks, not putting the blade away.

I look up at the man in the door, my eyes lingering on the blade for a moment, "I gotta note saying that you killed Gaedren Lamm. I wanted answers from him 'n' I wanna see if you got the answers I seek outta him before you killed him?" I look at the man a bit more critically before drawing my card and showing them the note, not taking my hands off of it.

"Great, another bully who thinks he can throw his weight around. He'll learn not ta bully me if he ain't careful."

Nicholas studies the card for a moment before stepping to the side and sheathing his rapier. What's going on now? Nicholas thinks as he lets the halfling in.

"Yes, we killed Gaedren," Nicholas confirms. "I'm guessing you got a mysterious note and card without knowing how?"

Turning to the others, Nicholas asks, "Should we try to talk to Esmeranda and see what she's up to again now, or should we wait until we're alone again? We still have to get these kids a home."

Once the halfling steps in, Nicholas closes the door again, but keeps an eye on the newcomer.

I step into the building with one hand behind my back, I am very cautious but upon seeing all of the children I relax somewhat. "Someone slipped it inta me pouch, badly. But I turned to grab 'em 'n' no-one was there. Bad thief, good hider."

I look around the room once more taking in everything there is to see. Now I am in the light, people are able to see me properly. I am only 3 feet tall with brown hair and eyes, I am wearing black clothes with a brass studded jerkin. There are a couple of long knives by my side, but the most distinguishing feature is the set of large scars that run across my face. I have my hood up and from above it hides my face well, but from my own height it would hide nothing.

"Hm." Aerel examines the new halfling, considering him carefully. Another one of the Lamm's victims? Or a would-be vigilante? In this city, they could be the same thing... Rubbing his chin, he shrugs slightly. "I am called Aerel Thelon... but what answers were you seeking from the old criminal, if you do not mind me asking?"

He pauses, realizing something. Hm... we just left his body there. I wonder if the alligator will get hungry enough to eat it. The thought makes him smile slightly.

Gaedren Lamm's the only name I've got to go on 'n' now this card says he's dead!" I look at the two who have spoken to me, "Can these full growns really be trusted?"

Shaeda looks up from her devotions in the corner. She was vaguely aware that her companions had been speaking with a newcomer. She stood and approached.

"Look 'ere ye lubber, a long night 'ad we, and ye would do better ta answer our questions before askin' any of yer own. Now, I dinnae suppose that ye have connections with any local orphanages perchance?"

Running a hand tiredly though her hair then untangling her hand. Full of knots. Damn. "Sheda he did. He wanted to know why he was beaten and what Lamm had over his father."

Looking over at the newcomer, "Sorry it have been a long night but she is always like that. Sadly there was not much to find among Lamm's things. You may never get your answer."

I look to the strange speaking woman and go to comment, but the tall lady speaks first and answers for me. "So the tall one's the mother of the group, the one by the doors the cautious uncle, the other girls the stroppy teenage sister ...Sheda, 'n' the Elf ... Aerel's the father figure. Gotta try ta remember this." I turn to the new woman, "You're tellin' me, those riots were troublesome. Luckily I was outta danger throughout."

I turn to look at the original man, "My dad was Roran, not ma birth dad, but he raised me. Only family I had, died of Shiver. Never had it before Lamm got involved, I'll have to find 'n' stop the making 'n' selling of it now then. Gotta make dad proud." The whole time I am speaking of my dad my fingers are rubbing and tracing the lines of the scars on my face, it would appear that I am unaware that I am doing so.

"Well Shiver was Gaedren's special trade," Nicholas confirms. "Most Shiver in this area was in his hands at one point or another. As for stopping it, that will be near impossible. People thrive and die on that stuff. Too addicting."

"I am Nicholas Sparrow, a common tavern worker," he says, hoding out his hand.

Seems he's seen his share of trouble, Nicholas thinks, noticing the scars.

Seeing there is no need to hold up the card any longer I give it a final look before placing it in my pouch. "The rabbit prince, why this one? Is it meant to be me? Rabbit prince ... rabbit ..." I accept Nicholas' hand and shake it, "You can call me ... Rabbit. If its Lamms stuff, then I can't do more than you've already done."

The elf, oblivious to the role 'Rabbit' has assigned him, considers the halfling's words idly. Hm... poor fellow... to lose someone to a drug is... unfortunate. He sighs inwardly, his mind going to a time nearly a decade before. "She's struggling with it, but I think we can work to heal her this time!" Khara had been enthusiastic about the possibility that this... "Soren" would be able to live a normal life, with the help of Saranrae's clerics and her own aid. "No one should have to endure that." he had replied agreeably. "Hm... I shall prepare something nice in celebration."

Aerel blinks, returning to the moment, and nods, attempting to recall what has come while he was distracted. "It is a pleasure to meet you, then... Rabbit. We are currently attempting to decide where our goals will bring us. I believe that I would consider a number of possible places to go, but others may have different ideas."

A false name, how fascinating.

Would I know of any orphanages that are close by?

I look to Sheda, "The riots 'ave died down, but likely ta be dangerous still. If ya'll careful ya could get them somewhere though." I then turn my attention to Aerel, "Ya mind if I tag along? I got nowhere else ta go 'n' would like ta see these kids safe."

"Just don't let any of the giants stomp on you. You know how clumsy they can be."

Most orphanages in the city are run by the various temples. Closest ones would likely be the Bank of Abadar and the Sanctuary of Shelyn to the north. Serenrae, Asmodeus, and Pharasma are also options, but would be a farther walk.

Female Halfling Whipmistress 15 (AC: 37 (*+2 Light Fort) (*+1 Haste) [T: 15 FF: 35] CMD 26 (+4 vs disarm/trip) | HP: 152/153(0NL) | F+18*, R+13*, W+18* | Init: +3 |Perc: +6)

"Shelyn it is, the Bankers would charge us for the service. Which, I suppose is sensible, but I prefer thinking of our contribution as an offering, rather than a fee."

"It seems we are in agreement on that at least. We should take the children first. Though it the riots are over we could split up and take both then meet back here."

On the map both are found in North Point so not to far.

Walking over to the children and crouching down, "The sun is up so we are going to go back into the city with you all. The est place we can think of to take you all is the Sanctuary of Shelyn." Smiling now, "I love that temple and have spent a lot of time there in the past. The people who live there are wonderful."

"You will get food and any healing you all need. They will take care of you all there. Will that be ok?"

"Shelyn's temple will be good," Nicholas comments.

And Emma now owns her own little cult.

The children find Emma's words very comforting, and are eager to go.

Smiling at the children, "I will be right back then we can go."

Walking back over to the others. "They are fine with the Sanctuary of Shelyn so we should not have any issues from the children. So is someone staying here or are we splitting up?"

Aerel inclines his head thoughtfully. "We should return this," he lifts the abalone songbird the group retrieved from Lamm's lair. "to the Sanctuary as well." He pauses, thoughtful. That's also in the direction of the Longacre Building...

"I would be willing to stay with our prisoners." The elf says softly. "That said, I believe that their destination is in the same direction as the Sanctuary."

Are our prisoners still unconscious?

The prisoners have had time to regain a couple of hit points, though they are still bound. Of course, if they caused trouble, wouldn't take much to render them unconscious once more.

"Very well." Aerel inclines his head, a faint smile on his lips. He looks to the halfling, flicking an ear in mild curiosity as 'Rabbit' examines their prisoners. If he wants vengeance... well, we'll have to keep an eye on him. While I do not object to him executing one of them, it is something that weighs on the soul.

One of them, a half-orc with an eyepatch, looks unpleasantly familiar to Jamir

I eyes scan the prisoners again and linger on a large orc, I stare a bit harder until the recognition hits home. I start to shake as pain sears through my face and I grab one of my knives and hold it tightly in my grip. "YOU?! YOU'RE THE ONE THAT DONE THIS TA ME?! WHY'D LAMM GET YA TA GRAB ME?!!"

It is clear that whilst I am angry, I am more scared than anything.

Jumping at the loud noise. Walking over to the newcomer and putting herself between the halfling and wherever the children are, "Rabbit put the knife away. You are frightening the children!"

Still in shock I spin to face the woman speaking, knuckles turning white on the grip of the blade. I turn to look at the children and see some of them getting scared, I slowly take my hand off of the blade and grasp both hands to my arms, still shaking and a couple of tears starting to fall down my face. "He knows why dad was killed!"

Nodding and crouching down to be at Rabbit's level. Speaking softly, "I get that, really I do. But those children have been though enough. At least let us take them away and then if you really want to get answers from that monster you can. But I doubt there is a reason. Monsters do not need reason to do what they do."

Nicholas keeps an eye on 'Rabbit' after this. He's a little unstable, and unstable is not good, Nicholas thinks.

Gathering up the prisoners in the wheelbarrow, despite their protests of now consciousness, Nicholas turns to the others. "Are we ready then?"

Let's get to that orphanage.

Assuming you are using the cart to keep your captors out of sight as before, let me know if you decide differently.

While the initial panic the city went through may be over, things have clearly not returned to anything approaching normal. The usually bustling city is all but closed, with barely anyone on the streets. People walk in groups, or dash out of sight when then see someone coming. The smell of smoke from last nights fires still hangs in the air. Smashed windows and overturned carts are a common sight. Guards are not.

Nonetheless, you and your entourage make progress, picking your way along the empty and rubble strewn roads to North Point.

Trouble doesn't rear its head until you are around Five Corners. The sound of shattering glass and a whimper are heard, from an alley as you pass. Within you can see several rioters surrounding a well-dressed man, on his hands and knees. One of them has just smashed a bottle over his head, and the others are kicking him.

"Die, dandy!" yells one of them. "Death to the false queen!" exclaims another.

As you pass, the thugs look up uncertainly. They brandish their weapons (chair legs, bottles, shovels), silently daring you not to mind your business and move on, but it clearly hasn't escaped their notice that you have real weapons, not to mention a pack of children, which complicates matter further.

Rioters, Nicholas thinks sourly. It will be days now at the earliest before it's truly safe to walk around. Why in the world is this noble walking around without an escort?

Nicholas looks to the others and whispers, "The kids need to get ot the orphange. This won't take but a minute to take care of, so go ahead and keep them safe. I'll catch up."

Turning to the looters, Nicholas takes a few steps forward and pulls out his rapier with confidence. "Death to the false Queen? Is that a conspiracy I hear?" Nicholas asks boldly. "In the name of the Queen of Korvosa, surrender and face judgement!"

At the sight of the thugs beating on the guy I get ready to help out in a fight, but Nicholas seems to have the situation in hand. "Okay ... don't insult the queen in front of 'im or he gets scary."

I move towards the fallen man a bit to help him up if he needs the help, but still try to keep the Orc within sight.
