Gunari Maximoff |
Gunari chats with the guard, still trying to get information from the guard, while plying him with as much beer as the guard will accept. "So, apologies for my poor manners, friend, I am Gunari Maximoff... what is your name?"
GM KApp |
The guard accepts the drink (and gold) happily, looking out over the nearby lake.
"It's good to warm a man, after the cold rain and fog the last few nights."
Sipping at the beer, he nods to the near camp Camp B
"That near camp's the centaur outriders. Lionbanes they call themselves. I've heard they're lookin' for some artifact to trade to some druids to get their forest back... somethin' like that at least. Respectful, for savages."
Another sip, followed by a cold glance at a man who seems to be pacing the path leading to camp C. The man stands tall - six and a half feet - and his black armor is covered in a mix of rust and dried blood. His helm only shows the bottom half of his face - his mouth in a permanant sneer.
The guard drops his voice - "Gaunt is a mean mother. He's been buyin' animals to send into a ring with his lion. Once that got borin', he started tryin' to buy people to send into the ring. His crew is out 'huntin' right now for more 'playthings'." The guard shivers and takes a long drink.
"Ever since he got in on the 'Early Bird Special' and bought that mace from the oddball jester, he's looked like he's just been waitin' for someone to test it out on."
He shakes his head and turns his body further away from where the man paces.
"Arnold, by the way. I'm Arnold."
Gunari Maximoff |
"Thank you for the information, Arnold! I take it there is no love lost for this Gaunt fellow? That's good to know. You have been most helpful!" Gunari says, as he fills Arnold's mug once more.
Away from the guards, Gunari formulates a plan. As soon as they are out of earshot, he says to his team, "So, I've got an idea. We could find the crew of this Gaunt, and I could volunteer to fight him for the mace. No one has seen us fight in this area, so I could, you know, make it seem like i was a drunkard and all." He contemplates what he has just said, and then just shrugs.
"From what we've heard, he seems the kind of guy that would be into this kind of thing. If he needs more incentives to fight, maybe I could offer a kind of bet... he beats me, he gets Cayden's Churchkey. He loses, I get the mace. Of course, I'll make sure I am at my best during the fight.
"What do you all think?"
Marženek Koliadnko |
Marženek sighs, "It's been so long we've been traveling I just don't know anymore. Go and talk to Gaunt while his crew is away?"
Draa Faer |
Draa shakes his head awake "If you think its a good idea.. then alright."
must have dozed off.... gotta clear the head.
Gunari Maximoff |
'Of course it is a good idea! What could go wrong?' Gunari thinks.
"Of course it is a good idea! What could go wrong?" asks the warpriest, oddly reflecting what he just though. He takes a glance at his gear, and starts mucking up stuff to make it look less shiny. "Hey, do any of you have a way to make gear look less nice?"
He then thinks about what Marženek said. "Maybe that's easier. Just go up and offer to allow him to test the mace?"
Satine Fenix |
"Why wait for his crew to return? I say we go up to this Gaunt and let him try his mace on someone. Since Gunari already volunteered..." Satine shrugs and holds her palms up.
Gunari Maximoff |
Taking Satine's comments as a backing of his plans, as well as Draa's and Marženek's, he starts walking. He then looks at the tall, blood-encrusted man... "Hey, you one of Gaunt's men? You wanna take us to him?"

GM KApp |
The man stops and turns slowly, looking Gunari over, his grip tensing on his mace.
"I am Gaunt. What do you want?" he replies.
As he does, the camp around you falls silent, the guards near the gate stopping and watching, leaning toward your group to hear the reply.
"You have no animals, so I assume you are not looking to enter into my fights, so why are you bothering me?" He nods to Marženek over Gunari's shoulder. "Unless the dour one wants to fight my lion." A dark chuckle resounds in his helm.
Satine Fenix |
Satine turns to Marženek, "Typical. He sends his lion out to do a job he is afraid to do himself."
Gunari Maximoff |
"Ah, Gaunt! Good to meet you. My name is Gunari Maximoff, and I hear that you've been wanting to try your new mace out in a real fight. Even though your victory is a forgone conclusion, from your reputation, I'd be up for a little sparring practice. Been a while since I've been in a real rousing combat, don't you know?" Gunari flashes his altogether too white smile at the man, while simultaneously sizing up his future opponent.
He pulls out a couple of tankards, and summons the power of the Drunken Hero to create beer on both of them. He offers one to Gaunt, while quickly downing his (from his tankard of the drunken hero, which gives him the effect of heroism).
"Unless, of course, the rumors of your prowess are overblown. I mean, it happens. Folks see a massively large man, such as yourself, and assume he's actually good in a fight." says the 5'7" Varisian man, who then winks, and continues, "Of course, we know that isn't always true..."

GM.Silbeg |
With Draa's guidance, the team makes their way to the Lionbanes.
The cured skins of several plains lions are strewn about this partially-collapsed ruin. The representatives of the Lionbanes are a pair of human men guarding a pair of centaur women.
"Good evening," one starts, "My name is Gwyndryda, and I am the leader of this expedition. My companion here is Cundrie, and we represent the Lionbanes.
"Word is that you folks are responsible for the downfall of that Blackfist bastard. What have you to say about that?"
Gunari Maximoff |
Gunari tries to look a little sheepish about this, but cannot hold back the grin. "Yeah, old Gaunt over there thought to challenge me, and fight us. Wanted to test out this ol' mace here he got, but Cayden's Churchkey here proved to be a better weapon." Gunari says, patting the two weapons. "Not gonna wield that vile mace, just figured I'd keep it safe, you know. Don't want it falling into the wrong hands."
"So, you ladies thirsty? The Drunken Hero can provide!"
GM.Silbeg |
While the two bodyguards stand ready, the two centaurs seem to relax with the playful banter of Gunari. They accept the proffered drink, and with further discussion, it becomes clear that they had but two goals. The first has already been taken care of with the dispatching of the Blackfists, and the second is that they would like to get a hold of the alabaster urn. They plan to use the urn to buy pardon from the druids of the Verduran Forest for offenses committed in their homeland.
Gunari explains that the urn is an item of terrible, evil power, and that it can only release more evil.
"Then what shall we do? Our people are in trouble, and our numbers are dwindling."
