Well, that was actually just a note to everybody to make the check.
The next two hours are long, lazy ones. The sun continues to beat down, but your shelter keeps it off you for the most part. The jungle around you continues to steam. After a grand total of three hours of this steaming, clouds form overheard, blocking the sun, and it begins to rain.
Next move?
Aerys Trajyon |
Does the rain lower the temperature/humidity a bit? If it does & it's not too heavy, combined with the sun being hidden, we might want to consider continuing (unless anyone with ranks in survival says it wouldn't be wise.) In that case, or if it's too much of a downpour, we might want to wait it out, & prepare to camp the night if it extends all day?
Aerys Trajyon |
If the rain isn't too daunting, Aerys looks out from under their makeshift shelter and suggests
"Perhaps we should take advantage of the more reasonable temperatures and continue? In the future, we may wish to consider traveling only in the early morning and late afternoon, and seek shelter again during the worst part of the day's heat..."
TheMan BehindTheCurtain |
It takes perhaps half an hour to take the camp apart with help from everybody. With some minor grumbling from your fellow castaways, you set off south into the jungle with z'Graggen in the lead, following the path you earlier traced along the map.
You make your way through the rain along the cliff, and after a while the base of the cliff splits and forms a small beach that continues along the same path. After half an hour, the ridge smooths out and allows access to the shoreline below. The ridge continues to pull back bit by bit from the shoreline below as you travel south, and the jungle continues down the side of the ridge up until a shallow beach. Two hours after you set out, the rain seems to have finished it's pour. Following the ridgeline, you make it to a clearing shortly before sunset.
So you've got maybe 30 minutes of daylight left. You're at the same latitude as the bottom of the S on the map, and at the same latitude as the place where the second ridge begins that the one you're following curls around to.
Aerys Trajyon |
Does that put us just a little SW of the small island marked Bloody Doll? If so, we might want to consider using the remaining daylight to set up a cold camp for the night? If we're elevated up on a ridge, a fire might just advertise our location for quite some ways. Is the terrain around us just rock at this point?
Aerys Trajyon |
I'm guessing a half hour of light isn't going to be sufficient to get us to the mark on the map
"Perhaps we should use what light remains to us to set up our camp in this clearing, and hopefully cover the remaining distance in the morning before the day's heat truly sets in?"
would we want to keep the same watch order from last night?
TheMan BehindTheCurtain |
z'Graggen, Derindi set about preparing the camp. It takes them four or so hours to put it together, meaning that it's well after sunset by the time it's complete. You settle in for the night, repeating the previous night's watch order.
Aerys Trajyon |
Aerys awakens in the morning with a strangely haunted look on his face.
"I begin to think this place breeds nightmares. Now my sleep brings visions of snakes." A bit of his usual humor returns to him as he turns to Alexi. "Hopefully your healing skills cover snake bites as well, in case my prophetic dreams have become more literal in nature..."
would a night's rest have taken away the last of the dex damage & the nonlethal from yesterday's heat?

Let's bump over to the OOC thread. There's something I'd like to ask you all regarding this campaign.
