Master

Well, that was actually just a note to everybody to make the check.

The next two hours are long, lazy ones. The sun continues to beat down, but your shelter keeps it off you for the most part. The jungle around you continues to steam. After a grand total of three hours of this steaming, clouds form overheard, blocking the sun, and it begins to rain.

Next move?

Male Human Paladin/1

woops..sorry

Fort.-1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Does the rain lower the temperature/humidity a bit? If it does & it's not too heavy, combined with the sun being hidden, we might want to consider continuing (unless anyone with ranks in survival says it wouldn't be wise.) In that case, or if it's too much of a downpour, we might want to wait it out, & prepare to camp the night if it extends all day?

Master

When it begins to rain, the temperature does go back down. It's no longer at a potentially harmful level. It's just very humid now, along with the regular problems faced during rain.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

If the rain isn't too daunting, Aerys looks out from under their makeshift shelter and suggests

"Perhaps we should take advantage of the more reasonable temperatures and continue? In the future, we may wish to consider traveling only in the early morning and late afternoon, and seek shelter again during the worst part of the day's heat..."

Male Human Paladin/1

"Yes, Iomedae has blessed us with this cooling shower. It would be a sin to not take advantage of it."

Master

Aerys:
Take 1 Nonlethal.

Darius:
Take 4 Nonlethal.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 1

"Well, let's go, then. A little rain never hurt anybody." z'Graggen begins packing up the camp. Once it's all packed up, he leads the way through the jungle.

Master

It takes perhaps half an hour to take the camp apart with help from everybody. With some minor grumbling from your fellow castaways, you set off south into the jungle with z'Graggen in the lead, following the path you earlier traced along the map.

You make your way through the rain along the cliff, and after a while the base of the cliff splits and forms a small beach that continues along the same path. After half an hour, the ridge smooths out and allows access to the shoreline below. The ridge continues to pull back bit by bit from the shoreline below as you travel south, and the jungle continues down the side of the ridge up until a shallow beach. Two hours after you set out, the rain seems to have finished it's pour. Following the ridgeline, you make it to a clearing shortly before sunset.

So you've got maybe 30 minutes of daylight left. You're at the same latitude as the bottom of the S on the map, and at the same latitude as the place where the second ridge begins that the one you're following curls around to.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Does that put us just a little SW of the small island marked Bloody Doll? If so, we might want to consider using the remaining daylight to set up a cold camp for the night? If we're elevated up on a ridge, a fire might just advertise our location for quite some ways. Is the terrain around us just rock at this point?

Master

Not rock. Jungle both sides, although a little bit of clear space where the land begins to drop off. Your current location is, using the sketched map as a reference and the Skull as a measurement, one skull-width West-South-West.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

I'm guessing a half hour of light isn't going to be sufficient to get us to the mark on the map

"Perhaps we should use what light remains to us to set up our camp in this clearing, and hopefully cover the remaining distance in the morning before the day's heat truly sets in?"

would we want to keep the same watch order from last night?

Male Human Paladin/1

I would say yes.

Male Human - Tian Rogue-2

"I agree. Let's make camp here while we still can," Ishirou puts in.

Master

z'Graggen, Derindi set about preparing the camp. It takes them four or so hours to put it together, meaning that it's well after sunset by the time it's complete. You settle in for the night, repeating the previous night's watch order.

Darius:
After your watch, you settle in to sleep. In your sleep, you are visited be a strange dream. You’re sitting down in the galley aboard the Jenivere, getting ready for your meal. The ship’s cook has given you a steaming bowl of soup, but you drop your spoon. You see that the deck below is covered with seawater up to your ankles, and your dropped spoon has sunk into the water and washed out to sea through a hole. You’re forced to lift your delicious bowl of soup to your lips and drink. But something big goes into your mouth as you do so, and you feel a sharp bite on your tongue. You drop the bowl, only to reveal a serpent had hidden in your soup that now dangles from your tongue as it chews furiously. You start awake, biting your own tongue in an attempt to bite through the snake’s body.

Alexi:
In the night, you are visited by a hazy vision. You’re in a dark rowboat on the open ocean. Sitting across you, rowing the boat, is First Mate Alton. He’s obviously dead, covered with stab wounds and sting marks, but still he rows. Eventually, the boat reaches an island covered with snakes. Alton waits as you exit the boat, standing ankle-deep in snakes, and then he turns and rows back out to sea, you assume off to look for more survivors to ferry to shore. But Alton never returns, and you wake up just as the snakes start to bite...

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys awakens in the morning with a strangely haunted look on his face.

"I begin to think this place breeds nightmares. Now my sleep brings visions of snakes." A bit of his usual humor returns to him as he turns to Alexi. "Hopefully your healing skills cover snake bites as well, in case my prophetic dreams have become more literal in nature..."

would a night's rest have taken away the last of the dex damage & the nonlethal from yesterday's heat?

Master

Methinks you read somebody else's dream, Aerys. :P Nonlethal would have healed after an hour or so, and the second night's sleep would have healed the last of the Dex damage, yes.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

oops - sorry! Saw the A at the beginning of the name & mind filled in the rest. Reading IS fundamental!

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys realizes with a start that he had actually had a restful sleep. "So, shall we break camp and begin the final leg of our journey before we're assaulted by the full heat of the day?"

Male Human Paladin/1

"Yes, let's." As Darius gathers his gear he is oddly quiet. From time to time he runs his tongue on his teeth.

Male Dwarf Barbarian 1

"I'm game to get going. What about the rest of these sleepers, though?" z'Graggen moves over to prod the sleeping party members, especially Varrick and Alexi.

Male Human Paladin/1

I will be very hit and miss until after the new year weekend. Then I will be back full force. Sorry.

Male Human Paladin/1

back

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys looks at the soundly sleeping party, and begins to question the wisdom of having brought back all the leftover soup from the Jennivere :)

Male Human Paladin/1

lol

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Sorry, guys. Between a New Year's surprise and coming down with bilateral pneumonia, I've been out of contact with the majority of the Internet. Even here, in the hospital, I have limited access. I'll punch things back up as soon as I can. My apologies again.

Wow - take care of yourself! Don't worry about anything - just take it easy & get better. Keep us updated on your condition - i check here all the time.

Shadow Lodge

Undead masquerading as Human

Let's bump over to the OOC thread. There's something I'd like to ask you all regarding this campaign.
