@GM Jammin': one quick question. Being untrained in a particular knowledge skill only allows you to attempt checks against DCs no higher than 10 - namely, you can only try to recall knowledge which is deemed common. Since this has been a contentious point in my experience before, what's your take on what constitutes "common knowledge"? Case in point, would Yani have at least a smattering about what the core 20 deities' names are and their portfolios? As far as geography is concerned, how much would she know about capitals, the generic location of nations etc.?[/qoute]
Yes, the core 20 deities, nations general things like that I consider common knowledge. You can check for any of those knowledges. Because of the argument your other GMs had said, I don't allow one who's untrained in a knowledge skill to take a 10 on it.

@GM Jammin': Since it's almost midnight here, I am soon going to sleep. Please, feel free (encouraged, even) to roll Yanistah's attacks in my place if you feel that would speed up the action. She would just continue to make full attacks (by using flurry of blows) against the sea-scorpion, and, should she defeat it, move on to help a fellow castaway.

Sorry about the confusion on who's turn it was. I have the map posted in the gameplay thread now, and we should be ready to go, confusion free.
For the map you will need a roll20 account, but it is free. If anyone has trouble with it let me know.
I do enjoy Roll20 a lot. I currently have the supporter subscription. Dynamic lighting is most fun and useful!
I plan on running a game at some point, but it will be PbP with Roll20 maps. Getting a quality virtual game is harder and more complex than it needs to be.

I feel you. Personally, when I have to write a long post I usually compose it in Word (not being a native speaker, the integrated Thesaurus is a nice bonus too) and then copy/paste it to prevent the page from timing out.
When feeling particularly paranoid, I tend to hit a select all / ctrl-c combo before clicking on submit even for medium length posts.
Oh, and sorry for having acted out of my turn GM Jammin'. Must have gotten a bit over-eager.

Damn you 30 minute forum timeout thingy! Quit eating my posts!
*flails*
:( That is the worst!

That's fine. Honestly feel free to, I'll just make it happen when your turn comes up. It's better to get a post in too early than be forced to wait and then maybe not be able to post when it is your turn. . . .
IF someone walks into one of the squares that would be affected by this attack before my turn
This action takes place first as it is Eizzach, Malthu, Xabala and Lalaru's turn in whichever order they post. So no big deal.

I can't use Roll20. At work we only use Internet Explorer. Roll20 doesn't seem to support IE. I can't use my cell either, since Roll20 doesn't have mobile support (nor does it work when I look at it as a destop site as the screen is covered by the sidebar).

Okay . . . I have before, and could use Maptools to upside upload static images for a map, but that's a lot more work for me, and I'm not able to update as often as I'd like . . .
Anyone have any ideas? Anything you've used that's been successful?

IE11 "seems" to be working, even though they didn't officially test it, as it improved HTML5 / WebGL support... Though you might be stuck with a previous version, perhaps even *shudders* ie8 if you're still on Windows XP.
There used to be Chrome Frame to mitigate such situations, an IE plugin which brought Chrome java capabilities into Internet Explorer (and, if I recall correctly, didn't need administrator privileges to install); unluckily, it has recently been discontinued.
Xabala Kybwa'ka |
Yeah, I'm stuck with IE 9 until IT decides to upgrade (and even then it'll probably be 10 since we like to be behind the curve). We're only now about to upgrade to Windows 7 in the next little while. I also expect Roll20 to do something so that IE11 stops working anyhow. I could have sworn that a couple years back, IE worked fine with it but then suddenly was 'not supported'. I do find it amusing they suggest using that Chrome frame which , as Yani mentioned, has been discontinued.
Google docs are blocked at work but I can access it on my cell which seems to work fine (as long as I'm not going to be manipulating the character position, etc.).
That being said, I was just letting you know about my issues. I wasn't expecting you to change things (and I certainly don't want you do do more work than what is already on your plate). Just let me know if there is anything adjacent to the character that I need to worry about. Anything else would maybe be if nothing is within 30' for a Hex. We can figure out more complex things when I start getting AoE spells or the like.

As of now, we're all more or less standing in a row, facing the shore. You're between Yani and a guy I suppose is Jask Derindi, the prisoner. All the critters are dead except one standing right in front of me, and north-east of your position.

I think I've got another idea, that'll at least let you see the map. I'll keep using roll20, but then just post a screenshot. That ought to let you see what's happening and it'd only take a little extra work from me. I probably won't get one up for this battle--it's nearly over--but I'll start with the next one.

I've moved the combat map so that you can now see a general terrain around where you are. And here's a screenshot of the same map.

Going to be posting from mobile from now until Monday, so I won't have access to the roll20 platform... Even with Malthu's upgrade my cellphone still attempts to visualize the desktop version, which refuses to render properly. Going to be necessarily a bit vague in my descriptions, I hope you'll somewhat be able to translate them in proper map movements :)
If I may, I believe I know the reason for it rendering the desktop version. Check out the following:
What are the minimum requirements?
Apple Devices: You can use either Mobile Safari or Google Chrome -- Chrome is the preferred browser. We do all of our testing under the latest version of iOS, so please make sure that your device is up-to-date to ensure the best experience. You must be running at least iOS 5.1 for it work at all, but iOS 6+ is strongly recommended. In addition, Roll20 will not run on the 1st-generation iPad, due to its limited memory. However, iPad 2 and any generation of the Retina iPads, as well as the iPad mini, are all compatible.Android Devices: Chrome for Android (latest version) is the only browser we officially support on the Android platform. We do all of our testing for Android on a Nexus 7. There are too many Android devices available to test them all, but in theory anything with the horsepower of a Nexus 7 or better should work fine. NOTE: Do not use the "Request Desktop Version" checkbox!
Nook devices as well as Kindles (including the Kindle Fire) are not compatible, as they don't have access to the Chrome for Android app.
Relevent text in bold.
You may have to clear your cookies and/or cache for your browser and start over. If you select the checkbox you will get the problem detailed above.

Thanks Maltu. I really appreciate all the effort you're putting into having roll20 work also for us unlucky mobile users :). Unfortunately I had already tried those same steps (asking the browser to request mobile versions of pages / clearing cache and cookies / rebooting my phone) with little result. I'm on Windows Phone, though, and Internet Explorer is notorious for getting sites to ignore its requests for mobile versions of pages :(
The good news is that I've somehow managed to get the desktop version working by minimizing the side bar (at least, I can now visualize the map). Yep, desktop IE doesn't work at all (at least up until ie10), mobile does but only with the desktop version.

Is there an undo option in Roll20? I seem to have deleted Malthu...
Awww. At least I can move again, right?

Things I've learned from our last battle
- Instead of rushing into battle, if I happen to be in the same initiative block as Eizzach I shall postpone my action to let him deal some nice AoE damage
- Better yet, I might want to let the enemy come at me and perhaps ready an action; this way I'll minimize the disadvantage Lalaru's suffering from her movement speed malus and let her join the action (and perhaps tank a bit)
- I shall make sure to never put myself between an enemy and a ranged fighter such as Nichelle if I can avoid it
Yanistah "Yani" Stands-Tall |
Yep. That, and my not-so-tangential interest in staying alive :3. But yes, jokes aside the game might soon get dull for everyone with only a few characters monopolizing the fights (and ending up in dire need of getting patched up) - it's much funnier if we all share the action!
Eizzach Bitterbalm |
No argument here. And for the record, I plan on picking up Precise Bombs as my first discovery so that I can actually fire into melee without worrying about hitting someone unintentionally.

@Malthu: sorry, I don't mean to come out as pestering, but I know that sometimes gameplay posts can get lost - that's why I'm reposting this in the discussion thread.
If you still have some CLW available, would you mind throwing some in Yanistah's direction? Even with Eizzach's administrations, she's currently at 3 hp, which doesn't bide well should we encounter any more of those things...
Xabala Kybwa'ka |
Xabala can use her healing hex on you, given the chance. Things just seem to be moving far faster and furiouser (?) than I had expected.
I had an emergency yesterday that prevented me from getting online so I'll have to take some time to catch up. If someone hasn't healed you by the time I post, I'll have Xabala do it.
Yanistah "Yani" Stands-Tall |
Thanks! Sorry if it looked like some of us are trying to rush forward - I have no intention of doing it, we're actually just doing a little bit of roleplaying of our own (we're just a couple of feet from where the battle took place).
Feel free to have it happen when we were still above deck, just after the battle. Due to different person having different posting habits, it's often difficult to have the story proceeding linearly with every post, and sometimes a bit of jumping forward and backward in time is required (provided we're out of combat, of course - and that the GM's okay with it)

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. I have been the kind of tired that makes you feel like you are in a brain fog. My mind cleared just now and I am able to actually think again.
I would be willing to use any healing on you that is needed, though it looks like someone else covered that. Maybe next time.

GM Jammin' and crew, this is just a heads up; I will be gone all day and all night Thursday. I'm going to a baseball game downtown and won't have access to the forums during that time.
Feel free to use Eizzach however you see fit, including spending bombs, crossbow bolts, or gp. I'll catch up again on Friday. Thanks in advance.
