Don't know if something came out of the attempt to fascinate Jask (though DC 13 is ridiculously low, so he could have passed it easily), but Timor would like to both try to establish why the guy was incarcerated (Diplomacy), as well as whether he might be lying (Untrained Sense Motive). If there was anu chance for Fascinate to work, than it might have helped my current rolls, giving Jask -4 to skill checks

Listening intently to exchange between Brehna and Jask, Timor quips in, trying to give a calmer "overtone" to the entire discussion: "My dear blue skinned Lady, it would seem that you are judging our friend Jask here too harsh. After all, whatever he did previously, now he is in this probleme with all of us, and I believe that he is smart enough to understand that we must help each other, if we are to get out of this alive, oui? Now, Jask, would you be so kind as to enlighten me as to what you did to deserve such punishment?"

"Perhaps, but A touch of paranoia has served me well thus far." Brehna says while waiting for Jask's response to Timor

"Mon amie Jin, I do not understand something - I look at this map, but can not say with any certainty what is our position, in relation to the map. You seem like a well read fellow, who knows his way around books and such, would you be so kind as to show me where are we exactly on the map?"

You need no rolls for Jask to open up - he's eager to tell his story.

"I am eager to be of assistance. I will tell you my story, if you care to hear it."

"I have already told you I was innocent - but not of what. I was once employed by the Sargavan government, but when I uncovered evidence of corruption involving illicit deals with the Free Captains of the Shackles, I confronted my superior, only to be betrayed and framed for the same crimes. Faced with imprisonment, I fled all the way to Corentyn, where I've lived in relative peace for a decade." He pauses before continuing.

He begins with a little more anger in his voice. "I thought my enemies had forgotten me, but a Sargavan agent caught up with me and put me in irons. The agent handed me over to the captain of the Jenivere for delivery to Eleder to be tried for a crime I didn't commit."

"I know that it is hard to believe that I am innocent. That I was framed."

Gelik snorts, "You got that right, old man." Jask ignores him.

"One of the incriminating papers that I found so long ago indicated that one of my superior’s contacts in the Shackles was a man named Avret Kinkarian. Kinkarian’s ship, the Brine Demon, was said to have wrecked here on Smuggler’s Shiv. I...know it’s a long shot, but if we could track the ship and explore the wreck, there may be actual evidence aboard to prove my innocence." As he finishes, he realizes that he has spoken more to you than any other person for some time.

After the heat of the day passes, the group moves into the jungle a little and finds a large enough open area to make a camp using the canvas sheets, lumber, shovels and various other tools found on the ship. The work is extremely hard-going, and various insects plague the party. Ishirou quickly realizes that disease could be a deadly problem here, best combated by using the shelter you have built to sleep and minimized by keeping a fire constantly burning, which will help drive the insects away.

However, because of Vita's extremely high survival knowledge, the work goes very quickly - it only takes 1 hour to set up camp.

I debated whether or not to share this, but I thought it would be a good idea. It's taken directly from the AP. It should be helpful.

Each NPC castaway has an initial attitude toward the PCs dependent on the PCs’ backgrounds. The PCs can attempt a Diplomacy check to adjust a given NPC castaway’s attitude beyond this initial attitude once per day.

There are other things you can do for the castaways that will improve or damage their attitude towards you. To help track this, I will have a chart in the campaign info tab that you can check on regularly.

That is actually true.

You can also eat match heads. About three a day for three days then one a day for up to a week. You'll sweat sulfur and smell like rotten eggs, but the bugs will leave you alone. I did this in the army. When you're surrounded by unwashed sweaty men after a few days no one smells anything.

Gelik is pleased that the camp has come together so quickly. He draws himself up to his full height, his aristocratic clothes somehow still immaculate despite the labours of the morning.

"Now, I have been thinking about this camp that I supervised the setting up of. Obviously any exploration of the camp should be left to you lot," he says, gesturing at the PCs. "But to ensure our survival, we at the camp will have to take on roles. This island is bound to be hostile, and having a safe haven is critical. I say again, CRITICAL!"

Gelik continues his lecture and intelligently suggests five major roles you can assign the NPC's. In order to get the bonus, the individual must devote the entire day to them, so these roles are best given to the NPC's unless you plan to just sit at the base camp for the whole chapter. Unfortunately, a castaway will only perform their role if their attitude is "Indifferent" or higher. The roles are as follows:

Defender: A defender works to set traps, shore up a shelter’s walls, and see to the safety of the campsite. Sasha and Ishirou can serve as defenders.

Entertainer: An entertainer helps to raise hopes for rescue—each entertainer grants NPCs a +2 bonus on Will saves to increase morale (we'll talk about morale, soon). Gelik and Aerys can serve as Entertainers.

Guard: Each guard reduces the chance of a random attack on the camp during the day. Aerys and Ishirou can serve as guards. At night, the party can take a turn.

Hunter: Each hunter provides enough food and water for eight Medium creatures per day. Jask and Sasha can serve as hunters.

Medic: Each medic reduces the chance of being exposed to disease and increases the number of hit points healed naturally during a night’s rest in the camp by 2. Gelik and Jask can serve as medics (note, with shelter and a fire your chance for disease is already decreased).

HP: 35/35, AC: 18:12:16, CMD: 20 Saves: 5:3:2 +2Enchant Skills: Dip: +7, Per +11, Sense +9, Stealth, +7,

Valeria can serve as either Defender, Guard, or Hunter

When Jindariel offers the brandy, Aerys eagerly takes it from him. She opens the bottle and takes a deep smell before take a drink. "Ah...that's it. A small taste of heaven on this hell of an island." She seems almost content.

Aerys' mood shifts to "Indifferent."

Jask is relieved to find that the group mostly believes his story - and that they listened attentively.

Jask's attitude shifts to indifferent.

Jin takes a drink of the brandy and chats a little with Aerys, if she is willing to divulge her elven parentage and reason for traveling. If not, he wishes her good drinking and moves to Jask. "I recommend we give Jask his gear back. He was convicted fairly or unfairly it appears of corruption, a non-violent crime. If we want his participation in the defense of the camp, he needs to be fully outfitted so he can serve as its medic." If no one stops him, Jin gives him his gear back.

"I tend to agree."

Once we give Jask back his equipment, Jin speaks to the party. "Looks like we'll leave the castaways in the camp to protect it, if they're willing. It's going to fall on us five to explore the island and find help. The lighthouse may be our best option but that's pretty far away. We may have to start with exploring the coastline south. Well, we should scout for fresh water sources and areas that have edible plants.

Planning to edit the plants?? LOL..edible maybe? ;)

"Sounds good to me." Brehna agrees as she fiddles with her knives/gear.

Male Half-elf Daredevil Bard 1

Looking curiously at the map, Timor scratches his chin, then his right ear, and finally clears his throat before speaking: "I have to admit that, despite my normal curiosity, I do not know much about the maps. If I understand you Jin, we are here" - he sais pointing to their approximate location - "...so if that is correct, then south make sense. But before we go, I'd need to know the following - these blue lines, are those rivers, streams, so to say? Freshwater streams, one could assume?"

Pausing for a few seconds, he then points to brown lines on the map: "And to the untrained eye, like mine, these thingies look like roads. Am I correct? Jin, what sa you"

"I've never been here before, but those line could be roads or more likely, trails. As for freshwater, I doubt it, since they all seem to connect to the sea, but perhaps, we could find a waterfall or something on this tropic isle. Only way to know for sure is to explore and to start with the coast, so we have a reference point to not get lost." Jin asks Pyrra to fill up his waterskin. "We have a couple of hours now, if you're willing, at least to get some clue as to what we face."

But we should have all the water skins filled,

"And Timor, perhaps you can sweet talk the castaways into defending the camp till we get back?"

Sorry for the delay everyone - let's get rollin' again.

To explore the island, you need to tell me where you would like to go using the map below. Each square is equivalent to 1 mile. Until you find a trail (IF you find a trail), you can move one mile every two hours.

It is approximately 3:00 p.m.

"And Timor, perhaps you can sweet talk the castaways into defending the camp till we get back?"

"Mais oui, mon amie, your friend Timor here will do just that. And rest assured, it will be done with style!" - Timor replies in his typical boastful way.

He looks around for Sasha, and after spotting her, he moves in her direction. Combing his jet black hair with his left hand, he raises his right hand as if to put it around her shoulders, and then quickly stops. Est ce que tu etes fou?! Have you lost your mind!??! Last time she nearly cut-off that hand of yours...play smarter Timor

Approaching Sasha, he starts talking in a low, but even voice, clearly pronouncing his words, all the while looking her straight in the eyes: "So, my lovely red-head, it would seem that the adventure finally found us. I do not know if there will be fame and glory, but if it is up to me, you can be certain that it will be interesting at least! Talking of adventure, that reminds me of one time in Ollo, on the Shark Island. Avimar told me that..."

Timor keeps spinning his tale, purposefully slowly moving away from the others. He will not move too far away, he is just trying to get some distance, so he could talk to her in a more private surrounding. If/when they are secluded a bit, after some time, Timor interjects a question directly into one of his stories: "So, tell me Sasha, how come did you manage to loose your pinky?"

Sasha is quiet and walks with Timor as he tells his story. She smiles and laughs quietly at the appropriate times in the story, but provides no additional feedback. When asked about her pinky, however, her brows furrow and she appears angry.

"You, sir, need to learn to mind your own business. You may have pretty words, but you don't know how to use them." she says, turning back towards the camp.

Can I get a diplomacy roll, please?

As it appears that no one will be leaving camp, the rations are broken out and ready to be served for dinner - the first time you have eaten today.

"So, our daring adventurers, where will you begin tomorrow morning?" Gelik asks, his voice sarcastic - but not any more so than normal.

Jask looks up, obviously eager to hear your response.

Feel free to roleplay any camp interaction, but I'll keep things moving along as I've been painfully slow to post of late. Also, you should divide up nightly watch duty.

Random Dice Checks:

2d10 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
2d10 ⇒ (4, 9) = 13
2d10 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6

As the sun falls, there is no moon to replace it. Apart from your fire, it is completely pitch black in the jungle surrounding you.

Brehna:

After you fall asleep...
You’re back aboard the Jenivere, bent over the railing being seasick. After your latest bout of retching, you slump back and see the rest of the passengers and crew are on deck as well, all of them sick save for the captain and the quiet Varisian scholar Ieana. She whispers in the captain’s ear, then gives him a kiss on the cheek. At that point the captain holds up a wooden
soup spoon, and you realize that you’re holding one as well. Everyone has a spoon. The ship is sinking, and the only way to stop it is to bail out the hold with your spoon! You work feverishly, but the waters keep rushing in. Just before you wake, you can see monstrous things with pincers in the water trying to claw their way into the ship...

In the morning...

Random Dice Checks:

2d10 ⇒ (8, 10) = 18
Aerys - 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17
Gelik - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Ishirou - 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
Jask - 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Sasha - 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

When you awake, Ishirou is already moving about the camp. He is clearly on edge and is surlier than normal. He is also particularly jumpy, his hand moving to his sword at almost every sound from the surrounding jungle.

Female Half-Elf Cleric of Besmara L1

Pyrra decides to go and talk to Ishirou.

"Are you OK? What have you seen?"

F Sylph Ninja 7

Brehna wakes with a start, waving her arm as if weilding something, but she holds nothing but air.

Realizing she was dreaming she composes herself and begins to prepare for the day.

@Vita - I stated specifically that I'm trying to lead Sasha a bit away from the party, in order for her not to feel "uncomfortable" discussing this in front of others, so unless you've been eavesdropping (perfectly valid option), I doubt that Vita would hear that.

Merde, that did not go to well... - slowly and looking very crest-fallen, Timor stralls back into the camp. He eats his dinner without speaking much, and then volunteers to take the first watch shift.
