I good thought Thomas. I shall do so while you prepare food. I do not believe that one who ran was headed to a horse though. Picking up his bow and whistling his owl he will go and look for tracks and see what he can find.

The bandits' tracks are not difficult to find. They'd clearly made no effort to conceal them. If anything, it seemed more like they were stomping their way through the wilderness intentionally. The trail winds a bit - double back over the same length Dendarial had covered in his pursuit.

After a hundred yards or so the trail seems to turn and sweep down to the southwest. You follow it for another two hundred yards, until you crest a hill. Beyond the plains flatten out for a mile or so in, giving you a clear view through to the next set of hills. There's no signs of any horses, nor any campsites they might have been using.

Assuming no one wanted to do anything else and you're bringing your new prisoners with you...

The trip back to Oleg's is thankfully uneventful. With Wetscale in tow and a rough awakening still sending yawns through the party every few minutes, it's a nice change of pace to have a simple and pleasant ride. Even the weather stays fairly placid, if chilly. Spring couldn't come fast enough.

It is afternoon by the time you arrive back at the gates of the trading post. They stand slightly ajar and one of Kesten's companions stands just inside the door, looking rather bored. Kesten, fortunately, is nowhere to be seen. You can hear the sound of chatter from within. You immediately recognize one voice as Oleg's, though the other is unfamiliar.

Entering the trading post you spot a new man standing alongside Oleg near the benches. Older than Oleg or Kesten, the balding man stood with long, loose vestments and a simple cloak draped around him. The pack laying at his feet had all the trappings of a traveler. He notices Oleg's eyes looking past him and he turns in your direction. The man offers a small, courteous nod in greeting. Then he spots the suffering Wetscale.

"Oh, by the gods!" He rushes over and stands beside the litter, examining the unconscious lizard. You catch the glint of a silver necklace tucked into his simple clothes. "Perhaps I can help? Jhod Kavken, traveler and huntsman. What happened?" His tone was strange, as though it was almost too helpful. Yet the man's aged and experienced eyes looked truly sympathetic.

Oleg follows the man, but he looks far less worried. Instead he has his eyes on the new catch of bandits you've brought into his trading post. The beleaguered merchant grumbles his disapproval.

"Poison. Hmm..." The man muses quietly, stroking the rough stubble of his short beard. He seems hardly bothered by the fact that his patient is reptilian. "I must admit I've never seen a spider's venom have such an effect... As you say, it must be something of this man's system." He turns towards Thomas and inclines his head slightly. "If you will allow me, I will certainly help as much as I am able. I do know of a few herbal antitoxins that may be of aid. A few prayers could not hurt either."

Dendarial gives Jhod a closer examination. A short time in the Stolen Lands and a lifetime spent dealing with humans has taught him a degree of caution. In this case, however, it looks that what you see is truly what you get.

An unstrung longbow sat peeking from the man's pack, and several phials of various trail remedies hung from the exterior of it. The man's linen vestments were loose, but covered heavier leathers. All of them the drab colors you might expect of a hunter. Nicks and scratches through the man's vestments indicated they were not new and had likely seen travel over a long distance. Dendarial catches a glimpse of silver from beneath the man's shirt once again, but Jhod turns away and back to Wetscale before he can get a real look at it.

"I think perhaps it is best if we move this one to a proper bed," Jhod says, apparently ignorant of Dendarial's examination. "I'll need some time to create a salve as well."

"Well it looks like your place keeps growing. How have things been while we were gone? Anymore problems with our reformed bandits or are some still causing a problem?"

Despite the hardship, not a single soul passed that season... and I knew then that one day, I, too, would follow that path. Though I must admit that I yet lack his skill, nor do I have a community to call my own." He stops and stares off into the distance for a long moment. "But that is alright. As night slowly fell over the Stolen Lands, the rapidly growing group of travelers staying at Oleg's Trading Post sit around the fire pit and share company and stories. Even the taciturn Tork had finally abandoned his self-pitying reverie to do something. Wearing heavy clothes, he looked as though he'd been long at work all day - probably helping Oleg with various repairs and maintenance. Runt was keeping out of the way of Kesten as he eyeballed the ex-bandits with vengeful fury, especially the still-injured Siril sitting alongside the wall of the fort. But even with the somewhat strange atmosphere within the trading post, laughter and chatter warms the soul on this chilly spring night. Yet Wetscale, still suffering from the after effects of the poison, lingered in the back of the mind.

In time, dawn broke over the plains. A bright, sunny, and cloudless spring day. And shaping up to be the warmest one yet. A fine day for travel, though Wetscale was in no condition to go anywhere. As the travelers wake and prepare their morning routines, Drekel sounds a curt note on a horn. Kesten comes running, his weapon at the ready, to greet the newcomer. Through the walls of the fort enter a single rider, dressed in fairly simple attire over some heavier armor. A large sword rests at his back. The human nods a greeting to Drekel before dismounting and leading his horse further into the trading post by hand.

Hold it, stranger!" bellows Kesten, ruining the morning's tranquility. "Who are you and what is your business here?"

Oleg, just emerging from his home, is already shaking his head in disapproval. "Probably here to do some trading, I'd imagine..." He mutters to himself. "That is the name'a this place."

Dimitri eyes the heavily armored guard who had greeted him.

What an interesting station for such a person. I would have expected a..less voiceterous guard for this trading post.

Guiding his horse towards the man, Dimitri made no effort to display hostility. With a new day upon his back, he extended an arm in greeting.

"I am Dmitri Prostrednik and I come from Restov in pursuit of the charter bearers."

A smile rose on his face as he saw the guardsman fidget.

"Relax. We needn't hostility when the woods that envelopes Brevoy does such a good job."

Just beyond the guardsman, Dimitri could see several people milling about with morning tasks.

So...this has to be the trading post they spoke of.

Kesten harumphs, clearly not liking the idea that his angry greeting was interrupted in such a non-violent manner. "Charter bearers? That's the group in the back - staying in the smaller structure there. But don't you go causing trouble. I've got my eye on you, stranger." Apparently the frequency with which you've run across bandits has decidedly colored Kesten's view of outsiders.

Shaking his head slowly, Oleg waves the newcomer over. "Ignore Kesten. He's a little... rough around the edges, I suppose. The name's Oleg, proprietor of this little establishment. You said yer lookin' for the charter group? Well they're just over here - I'll let ya introduce yerselves."

He gave a nod to the guardsman as he walked away with a quip. "Nice meeting you, Kesten."

A rather brusque person greeted the huntsman, Oleg, who seemed to be the one in charge of the place. Allowing a smile to form, Dmitri followed the man towards the rear of the establishment. A group of strange individuals had been packing and getting their gear ready.

So...these must be them...

"Greetings comrades, I am Dmitri Protrednik. Like you, I am intrigued with the Stolen Lands and wish to join your efforts in bringing law and balance to the chaos!" He had silently hoped that his small speech would rouse acceptance and possibly inspiration from his soon to be peers.

Months ago, Dmitri had been like the rest of Rostland who had laughed, mocked, and even established bets upon the countless bands of fools who tried their luck in exploring the Stolen Lands. But something wouldn't let him ignore the charter. What seemed like simple jokes turned into a desire to go, as if he was compelled by curiosity or wanderlust.

"Is there a leader among you of whom I may speak with?" he added while adjusting the reigns upon his horse.

Dmitri approached the woman and took on a nearby stool. "Well, I'm a huntsman first and foremost. I can forage, scavenge, scout, and track. My specialities lie with my silvery tongue and martial prowess.".

To Dmitri, it felt weird that he had to audition himself before a would be group of adventurers. He came quite a considerable distance and this was how he was treated. Alas, he knew that there were protocols among partnerships and this happened to be one of them. "To be frank, you don't seem to be a huntsman yourself. Pray tell, what are your specialities?"

Tyanos came around to meet the newcomer. He was his usual imposing and covered up self. His strange eyes only seemed to intensify at his words with amusement. He took a deep bow, though with his size it may have seemed a slight one.

"Well good huntsmen I welcome your martial prowess as you say as for your silvery tongue, I think you mistaken if I am to be so bold. A huntsmen can't match words with a merchant, for they are bread and honey to them. If your words matched your skills with blade or bow, you would not claim them so dear and able. For what use are they that could not be gained with mere words and far less blood. That said, I am Tyanos a simple merchant. Greetings."

He wasn't trying to test the man, well not in a hostile manner at least. None the less he would gain his measure, after all the world was not so generous. A wordsmith or swordsman, no man could every truly claim to be both only ever one. He was no different and nether was this man that stood before him.

Thomas seems to be their medic, a good thing. Tyanos is their...guild master? Merchant? Not sure

"Well met, Tyanos. I'll be sure to make you my alley, rather than my foe!" he said with a slight bow.

Then game the woman. Dmitri noted her mannerisms and etiquette. She did seem to be noble, or atleast remotely.

"Mi'Lady, it is nice to see someone else from Brevoy. Especially one from their noble houses. I can't say that I'm particularly too fond of their machinations, but I do hope that we can make a better bond than our relatives to the north." he said while trying to establish camaraderie."

The next person to approach the huntsman was a fellow man of the woods. A wide smirk formed on Dmitri's face as he talked with the elf.

"Dendarial, you and I have that in common. I do hope that our union would be most fortuitous for our allies."

I will have to watch this one. Some hunters can be...wary of their peers.

And finally came Erastite. Dmitri was impressed with the humility that Hadin displayed. This reminded him of the rural communities that he had defended before embarking on this quest.

Dmitri stood so that he was within their circle and looked at each member with a smirk. "It is my pleasure to make your acquaintance, Charter Bearers!" Upon seeing their reaction, he allowed some of charm to pool over. "Now that we've got that out of the way, I can let my hair down and get to business with you folks. I understand that yall have been down here for quite some time trying to make heads or hooves of these woods, and well, that sounds dandy, but well...how far have yall gotten? What's our true objective assuming that we're in this together?"

It took no time for Dmitri's act to drop as his Brevic slang came through catching the party by surprise.

He has only just regained consciousness and remains very weak. I fear I cannot heal him with my skill alone. Which brings me to why I have come all this way..."

The man takes a deep breath, as though preparing his words very carefully. "I believe I've been sent here for a reason. Each night when I sleep I see a great and mysterious site, buried deep in the woods. The image has grown more and more vivid as I've approached these lands. Last night, as I nodded off for a nap during Wetscale's care, I saw it the clearest of all: an ancient temple, protecting a pool of restorative waters from time immemorial. Since the arrival of Kesten and his men and the pushing back the bandits from raiding Oleg's every month, he's managed to stock his trading post with the essentials. In his storeroom you can find pretty much anything you might need for traveling through the wilderness, including spare bows, bolts, and arrows. Oleg also informs you that, with a bit of notice, he can get things brought in from Restov or further uproad in Brevoy. The rarer and more expensive it is, the more likely he'll need payment upfront - and, of course, the longer it will take to procure. Oddly enough, Runt seems to have taken over the organization and keeping of the storeroom and Oleg is okay with this. Seems the job suits him and his former life.

In game terms, you can pretty much expect any adventuring equipment <10g to be well stocked, while the more expensive things (weapons, armor) are available in limited quantities.
