The other concept that I had (which I can revert to in order to better fit into the group) was a more pure-blooded Navis from a Magisterial House. He'd be less unbalanced and more closely tied to the Imperium than the current one.

I'll think on it this afternoon and then make a final call which way to flop tonight.

Regulorum, we could still have potentially crossed paths; perhaps Alessaunder frequently crossed paths with Regulorum due to his underworld contacts, seeking weapons for the 'gang war by proxy' he and the Captain were involved with in their early lives. That was some time ago of course, but it gives you time to have actually been trained by as an Explorator.

Enginseer Prime Explorator R1

Oh trust me, I can write backstory like a "daemon" so no worries there. You and the Lord Captain give me a full outline of your own histories and I can guarantee a clever integration. I was just figuring if we wanted simple and "on the chart", I could make an adjustment if needed.

Enginseer Prime Explorator R1

"Incidentally, it's Regulorum or Reg. Communicating titles we are all aware of is pointless and illogical. Do not waste my time with such irrelevance. Enginseer Prime Bast or Explorator Bast is for formal moments of recognition only."

The Tech-Priest standing before you says in what could almost be described as a testy vox transmission.

"I will display proper respect. Have no fear. But do not grate my auditory receptors with redundant vocal transmissions unless there is a purpose."

House Tyr (A Warrant and Ship Origin Path)

Spoiler:

The fortunes of House Tyr started with its founding patriarch, Hieronymus Tyr, who served with the Ultramarines in the punitive strike against the Word Bearers’ homeworld of Colchis. Commanding the grandcruiser, Adamant Will, Hieronymus Tyr helped break through that doomed world’s defenses, earning the gratitude of Roboute Gulliman, who petitioned the Lords of Terra in his behalf for a Warrant of Trade so that he and his line will always be there to take the fight against the enemies of the Emperor (Age of Rebirth SP 12, PF 10; Reward SP 16, PF 2).

The fortunes of the House waxed.

The resources of the Imperium stretched to the limit to deal with the Black Crusades of Abbadon the Despoiler, House Tyr volunteered to help maintain the peace in the frontier -- for a nominal fee of course.

They established their own colony in an area of space that will one day be called the Koronus Expanse. Calling it Serendipity, the colony yielded much mineral wealth allowing the family to acquire more ships. Life was good (Age of Plunder SP 12, SP 2).

Millennia pass and the fortunes of Hieronymus Tyr’s family waned.

An unknown enemy attacks the Tyr family colony of Serendipity, destroying many of the family’s holdings and ships. Only the then-patriarch Albus Tyr aboard the Adamant Will survives. He vows vengeance against the perpetrators of the attack whoever they may be. He squanders his fortune in his futile search. (Fallen from Grace SP 4, PF 2). (I suspect that the logical attacker would be the Word Bearers).

Down yet not out, House Tyr’s friends in the Imperial Navy remember the honor and service the House has done for the Imperium (Battlefleet SP 12, PF 2).

House Tyr’s fortunes may have waned but the deeds of its line echo still (Famous SP 14, PF 4).

Total SP 70, Total PF 22

Silas' Background

Spoiler:
Background: Silas Tyr grew up in Scintilla. His status as heir to the Tyr fortune (what’s left of it any way) allowed him to stand in equal footing with the sector nobility. The pressure to excel drove Silas to vice and to violence, as he fought many duels to defend the name of the house. But always Silas felt that his real enemy remained just beyond.

The terrible news of the discovery of the Adamant Will sans its crew and his father confirmed for Silas the existence of the enemy.

Creditors, seeking to secure payment before the expected bankruptcy, forced Silas to liquidate much of the House’s holdings in the Calixis Sector in exchange for a grace period of several years to pay off the balance of what is owed.

Thereafter, Silas outfitted the Adamant Will as best he can and left for the Koronus Expanse to seek his fortune.

Alternative re-jig to my Origin path would be to swap out Forge World for Void Born - which should align me with our esteemed Void Master? - giving one intersection at least.

Only real change would be that I was 'made' aboard a rogue gene-splicing ship that was breeding Navis for the Renegade houses.

According to Wolfblade by William King, Navigators are stable mutants and any oddity that they may display is discounted by the Imperium at large because of the crucial ability that they possess. However, Navigators who reach a certain age must retire to the family crypts for the reason that their mutation can no longer be held in check. A little Forbidden Lore (Navigators) there.

@DM Hector, any special rule regarding the Free Acquisition of equipment? Can we buy equipment described in the other 40K books like the Inquisitor's Handbook?

On a purely personal and very much OOC note, mixing too many 40K sourcebooks for equipment gets pretty wacky. RT works best with just the RT books.

Just my two cents.

Male Human (American) Dungeon Master (Action Movie Director) 17

Once again it seems time zones have got the better of me. As the First Officer has pointed out, I asked for background intersections, not necessarily OP intersections. As long as you didn't go into a bar and say, "Hi, I'm a rogue trader." "Hi, I'm a navigator. "Wanna join my crew?" "Sure, why not." It'll work. I'm going to say no on the material from other lines. The different currency mechanics makes it a rather unnecessary headache.

any questions I missed?

Just a heads up. No more holiday where I am and I am back to work. Have a battle in court in 3 hours. Plaintiff will be cross-examined by me. Will try not to be a dick.

Will be back before a laptop in 6 hours.

We're just waiting for PWO's numerical data, correct? Other than that, any deadline for backstory/party cohesive integration?

I find myself so excited for this game. I am ready to start up this character, and I can't wait to get the green light for roleplaying the Explorator Regulorum!!

Yes sir. Member of the Philippine Bar.

Here's a news article about one of my cases.

And as I understand it, adherents of the Omnissiah prefer to be called "Magos." So for brevity's sake, I will address you as "Magos." Implies name-level attainment there.

Also since Silas is a paranoid SOB, he will probably message members of his retinue with tasks unknown to the others. But because of their shared experience on Scintilla, Number One will be CCed with those.

Request for standardized posting:

I was hoping we could all agree on posting or agree to defer to Hector on how posts should be standardized. This should allow ease of skimming when one needs to go back and find something.

I for one prefer unbolded text for speech and italics for inner monologue only while both are appropriate within a sentence for emphasis use.

The use of bold or italics is very common on the boards for speech, and I hope you all would be willing to come to a consensus as to how Speech will be displayed in IC posts since we're all probably used to something different.

WS 43 BS 39 S (3)2 T (3)1 Ag (3)6 Int (4)0 Per (3)5 WP (3)3 Fel (4)7 Wounds 10/10 FP 3/5 Insanity 6 Corruption 2 AP 6 (All)

Bold will be easier to respond to.

"Magos, I am for plain-speaking and would know from you why you wish to join our merry band of ... adventurers. You are not running away from something, are you?"

"Oh and please be reminded that on board the Adamant, I am lord and master."

For Number One

Spoiler:
Message (Private Cipher): Contact your usual sources and find out what you can about our magos here. Have the Master of Arms keep him under surveillance until we can be sure of him.

@DM Hector, because of House Tyr's connection with the Ultramarines and their primarch, Roboute Guilliman, perhaps we can one day request the service of an Ultramarine....

Male Human (American) Dungeon Master (Action Movie Director) 17

I personally like the bold for plain speech, italics for inner monologues, for yelling or loud speech, and for whispers. Spoilers for one on one conversations or stuff you don't want the others to know or that they wouldn't know (i.e. speaking in ciphers). OOC if you want to make a quick point or ask me a quick question. Otherwise OOC conversations go here, or if they go from something short and start to draw out, I might ask you to move it to this tab to avoid in-game clutter.

Also, oddly enough Radavel, I myself have a legal background. I'm still working on getting the money to go to law school.

Master of Etherics on the Adamenent will

PWO here. Crunch done....I just need to spend exp. and come up with a name.
As far as conncections go our voidmaster has sailed a bit lee of the law at times. Stubjack followed by Renagade screams criminal and smuggler. The fact that dark voyage follows those tells me somethingn went rather wrong. Perhaps something that House Tyr got him out of?

Perhaps he came to the houses notice first as a smuggler? Eh needs more pondering...

oh and took Augers as the special ability if that matters for ship role.

Happy with the speaking conventions.

Master of Etherics on the Adamenent will

Ah, it appears I had an illegal path. Please substitute Press-Ganged for Dark Voyage. Other than background, acquisition and mundane gear Alph is good to go

WS- X, BS- X, WS- X, S- X, T- X, Ag- X, Int- X, Per- X, WP- X, Fel- X, Wounds X/Y, FP X/Y, Insanity X, Corruption X, AP- X (Y Right Arm, Z Left Leg)

I'm in agreement that we use the standard conventions that DM has put up, I use them in about ten other games here.

As for big words pinvendor... Your free to use them around me too ;).

Heres the final origin path for our motley crew-

Link

I'd recommend tying Vorgen to our Master At Arms- from 'Press-Ganged' then both going into Fortune you have two intersections together. Vorgen also shares Renegade with our Explorator.

One last thing, PWO. You need to pick a ship role. With the speciality you took, I recommend Master of Etherics. Let me know what you take.

Dark Archive

Since the GM is happy for us to have background intersections only without necessarily needing it on the origin path, then I'll keep my Navis as a Forge Born.

I'll fluff up some more background overlap tonight when I have my thinking cap on.

Vorgen Alph could have been the pilot that pulled Yosarni from the void when he became Ship-Lorn?

Speaking conventions are fine.

Dark Archive

With the full origin paths up I think it's just me that lacks any commonality. But then again, Navigators are a little bit different so that probably still suits quite well...

For background, are House Tyr happy for Yosarni to have served on the Adamant Will since it's recovery? As it was recovered from a space hulk and house finances are low - perhaps Silas was unable to secure a Navis with a decent pedigree... so he had to settle for something less than ideal.

A slightly deranged Navis from a Renegade house with an all-encompassing fear of the warp - but unable to avoid serving in some capacity as he would not be allowed to live without the protection of a powerful house. His Catch-22, as it were.

Sovereign Court

Yosarni would have already suffered from one mental trauma at 19 insanity points, and is only 1 point away from another... See page 296 of the core rules :)

Dark Archive

Thanks for the catch - I checked the Disorders, but managed to miss the Traumas.

Trauma Willpower (39+10): 1d100 ⇒ 7 - successful

With 10 Corruption he would also have needed a Malignancy test?

Malignancy Willpower (39): 1d100 ⇒ 95 - failed
Malignancy: 1d100 ⇒ 91 - Blackouts: The character suffers from inexplicable blackouts. When they occur and what happens during them is up to the GM.

Sovereign Court

Heh, blackouts. I like it.

Male Human (American) Dungeon Master (Action Movie Director) 17

Hehehe... me too. I'll give your explorers one last go over with a fine-tooth comb before I make the gameplay tab live. Are there any other questions or concerns for me?

Also, FYI, I'm working on a full crew list for you guys, including all of you as well as your NPC crew members. It's currently a WIP, but it shouldn't be too necessary for the first adventure or two.

@DM Hector, can I get a Best Craftsmanship Wrath Plasma Gun (Into the Storm)? And a lord captain's baton?

Dark Archive

For the free item - is it correct that it can be an 'Extremely Rare' (-30) item for one item (+30) - to make the final acquisition mod of +0?

Legendary Merchant of Pins

I will be doing up my equipment and background soon, BUT...

Tomorrow is my 3 year wedding anniversary, and the wife and I will be heading out to a nice hotel this evening. So after I get off of work today around 4pm Pacific Daylight Savings Time, don't expect to see anything from me until Thursday. :D

I think I read that if it is above Very rare you no longer get that +30 even if you just want the one?

And I feel I should check that my free aquisition is ok as well, Good quality cyber eyes. Henche his nickname of Glint Eye.

Mark, thats right, although craftsmanship must be taken int account (see below).

Bogg, that is almost correct. Scale is only irrelevant to Near Unique and Unique items. Leading on from this...

You can't get two items Lord-Captain. Also, the Plasma gun is of extremely rare quality (-30), best craftsmanship (-30) and negligible (+30). You could have a common craftsmanship version (+0) but not best.

Master of Etherics on the Adamenent will

Master of Etherics sounds lovely. Though with my less than stellar perception it will be a bit of a struggle.

oops forgot wounds 1d5 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6.

Male Human (American) Dungeon Master (Action Movie Director) 17

Well... Seems the First Officer has beaten me to it. He pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Sovereign Court

Well the ship's detection valus is added to your roll, you get a re-roll every time you use the augurs if you want to use it and you get a +10 on focused augury which is the big one in ship combat. Should be fine.

Will update the adamant will tomorrow most likely, today seems to have almost disappeared.

Edit: First Officers are ninjas...

For my freebie item I'll go with a Common Quality Almanac Astrae Divinitus

Details:
A tech-device of the Divine Astrometricum, a Calixian faction of tech-priests concerned with cataloguing stars, nebulae, and distant events in the voids. Its clicking arrangement of spheres and hololithic projections form a catalogue of sorts, which is of use to those who make their way between stars. It can provide a +10 bonus to Navigation, Pilot, Scholastic Lore (Astromancy), or Trade (Astrographer) Tests where its information is directly relevant to the circumstances.

hmmmm can bionics/implants be the aquisition? I am looking at bionic eyes....

Male Human (American) Dungeon Master (Action Movie Director) 17

Your Master at Arms has bionic eyes, so it would be sliiiightly unfair if I said no, lol.

Haha, well, I did ask if it was ok...

Probably an appropriate juncture to do a cross-post to all my more active PbPs about an interruption to my posting schedule that is imminent.

My wife is about 37 weeks pregnant, which basically means that the bun is fully cooked and ready to pop at any time. This means that at some point in the next 1 day to 4 weeks I will suddenly and without notice disappear completely from the interwebs. I can't say when or for how long, but it will probably knock me out for up to a week or so before my wife and I get back on our feet and I'm of somewhat sound and untired enough mind to jump back online.

So if I do vanish, please don't fret as I shall return :) I would just ask for some leeway on posting frequency for a while as we adjust to the new baby floating around.

Master of Etherics on the Adamenent will

Hello all and congradulations to our navigator and partner for extending the bloodline as well as to our first officer for a carouse fit to shake the pillars of heaven.

That said I have a small issue. I have no idea what to take for my free aquisition? I have a good gun, bolt pistol, and decent armor. Xeno mesh or the assassin suit might be better but these are both easy to get. So I am opening the floor to recomendations.

Ideas?

Male Human (American) Dungeon Master (Action Movie Director) 17

Glad you guys brought that up, as I was about to point out that if you're going to be silent for any amount of time, just let me know when you know.

Vorgen- consider a weapon upgrade such as a red-dot sight- or put your bolt pistol on a Forearm Weapon Mount :P.

Non-combat suggestions-

Void Suit
Acquiring Shipboard Emergency Kits for our ship.

Or, look into Cybernetics.

LAST CALL- DOES ANYONE ELSE GIVE + OR - TO PF, AKA PROFIT FACTOR?

Vorgen has been added to the ship's roster. Posting my finished background today and then i'm ready to roll. My starting acquisition is a Calculance Array- allowing your Space Accountant an even greater grasp of commerce.

Appearance-

First Officer Alessaunder Fortunus Godwinne is an intensely well-groomed man. His entire attire as well as his hair and meticulously trimmed beard is a carefully cultivated image of finely dressed, masculine ruggedness. Tall, healthy and strong, Alessaunder is a presence to be reckoned with, whether on the bridge of a voidship or in the finest dining halls of the Imperium; and he is equally confident in either situation. Despite his humble, fringe world background (which he rarely cares to talk about), he has the carefully learnt mannerisms and habits of nobility. His posture is immaculate and he carries himself with a clear and innate pride not dissimilar to the Lord Captain's- incidentally the only man who he seems to unconciously give way to from time to time. He looks approximately in his mid-thirties.

Background-

Alessaunder's early years were spent on the fringe worlds, as part of a nomadic tribe of gun merchants who were always looking for the next big score or fleeing from the authorities; often both. Alessaunder was the son of the tribe's chieftain and was being groomed to succeed him someday.

A common theme in Alessaunder's life is that providence ensured he was often at the right place at the right time. As a teenager he happened to be in one of the settlements looking for work for his people when the rest of the tribe was massacred by a vengeful arms dealer. To protect himself, Alessaunder hastily enlisted in the Battlefleet.

The ambitious young man already harboured a suspicion that the Emperor had chosen to preserve his life as he was destined for greatness in His name. This new-found conviction drove Alessaunder harder than any of his comrades and gave him a drive and zeal that was intense to behold. It was not long before he had achieved a comfortable rank, an expertise in the Battlefleet few of his age could match and even the piloting skills to steer a mighty warp capable voidship.

He also met and befriended Ludicos Marleno, the finest shot with a pistol he had ever seen. This would of course, become significant later when he contacted the man offering him a position within the Tyr dynasty.

Eventually, Alessaunder felt the Battlefleet was not his calling. Discretely paying the right man the right sum of money, he had himself 'retired'- and found himself once again in the right place at the right time; for Alessaunder swiftly stumbled into a chance meeting with the heir to the Tyr Rogue Trader dynasty, Silas Tyr. The two men were much alike and each sensed the burning ambition in one another; and Alessaunder soon became firm friends with the young duellist.

The friendship was tried and tested though, when a duel Tyr fought went awry as in revenge for a slain offender, several noble houses of the planet began to raid and destroy Tyr's holdings on the planet. Proving his loyalty, Alessaunder assisted Silas in fighting a 'gang war by proxy', and after a year of hard fighting and scheming, the pair finally stood together atop the rubble of their former enemies headquarters- although Silas mentioned that he had discovered that the implications of this incident hinted at the existence of another enemy in the shadows... Alessaunder had tied himself explicitly to a powerful man destined to inherit even more power; luck was once more on his side.

Regulorum, up to you if you want to include a chance meeting between Alessaunder and you here, as I mentioned you could have easily been supplying 'our' gang weapons.

Although Silas' inheritance was not as lucrative as perhaps it could have been, Alessaunder nevertheless stood porudly as First Officer on an ancient and grand vessel of the Imperium, with the (ailing but still potent) power of the Tyr dynasty. His ambition was nowhere near extinguished, but things were looking up...

Personality-

Alessaunder is fiercely loyal to his Lord-Captain and to his crew, often having difficulties controlling his rage if the honour of either is called into question- a trait that bonds him and the Lord-Captain, who has the same issue.

Alessaunder is calm, calculating and confident in almost everything he does; and is not afraid to admit a lack of expertise in an area and call upon a true expert to provide the necessary knowledge. He is charismatic and driven, with little to prove to himself or to others. Alessaunder is a man who has a firm measure of himself and other than his possible delusions of a higher purpose provided by none less than the Emperor is quite healthy in mind and body.

Following suit from our esteemed 2IC:

Appearance:
Navis Yosarni is a pitiful looking creature. His robes are marked with stains and folds of skin hang like strings of ivy from his haggard frame. Hair sits atop his scalp like wet strands of spaghetti, bunched together with sweat and betraying the balding scalp below. Beneath his two normal eyes lie thick black bags of tiredness, and the whites of them are crisscrossed with bloodshot red. His posture is hunched from the hours spent craning over maps and his arms bear scars around each wrist, as though he spent many hours struggling against manacles.
The only thing about him that gives any reason for deference lies in the center of his forhead... the warp eye. The dangerous orb is oft hidden below his hooded robe, only unleashed when absolutely necessary.

Personality:
Navis Yosarni is frankly... insane. Filled with a nervous energy that is manifested in a need to constantly pace and flex and relax his hands and gesture as he speaks. Skeptical of the ecclesiarchy and cults of the machine spirit both, he seeks solace and centers himself in maps. Stellar cartography is a passing concern, though he is ravenous for any and all charts and guides that offer some measure of understanding to the warp and what it entails.

There is little that Yosarni fears on the mortal earth, at ease in the face of xenos and those mundane horrors which the void provides... but there is one place he fears to go beyond all else. The warp. Every trip into that soul devouring morass of chaos turns him into a gibbering wreck of a man. However he cannot flee from his responsibility... as he is a Navis, and the only one who stands between the Adamant Will and destruction when they travel in the way beyond.

While at warp, the Navis explodes into action. Tears stream down his face as he screams obscenity and instruction both at the pilots. Not content to merely plot a course, he orders adjustments continuously so as to follow what he perceives as the best course and avoid pitfall. If there were any other choice, Yosarni would likely be passed on... but he was good. Where a misstep in the warp could result in the loss of the ship entire ability makes up for many failings.

Background:
If the good Lord-Captain finds it acceptable, I can assume that he hired him to serve when the Adamant Will was recovered from the hulk? - Yosarni was desperate for work after being recovered from the void by Vorgen and needing the protection of a great house to dissuage the inquisitors of the ecclesiarchy from scrutinising too closely.

Good, the connection to Alessaunder is there, now I just need to come to some agreement with Vorgen about the press ganged bit.
Most of my background is already done, just that detail left.
