Can't guarantee active combat just yet, but I should be able to follow some conversation until things ease up for us. Either way, the sarcastic "pretty boy" is partially back for the ladies to smack the hell out of lol.

Kyrian Linwood |

Kyrian, a tool? Nah, totally not a tool. Calling him a tool is a compliment lmao. Man I'm gonna love playing this out.

Kyrian Linwood |

Did Kryian even hear Ven call down with the heat of passion going through his mind? Just wanna make sure if you want me to roll a perception or if you had already made one so that way I know how to respond properly.

Kyrian Linwood |

I'll try and post tomorrow night, but will post by the end of Friday night. It's been a busy week so far, something I get the feeling we've all had anyways lol.

Lynnda Windstrike |

Hi, folks.
I'm also going out of town for the weekend, and won't have my laptop. I'll try to get in a post or two via my smartphone as time and network connectivity permit.

Kyrian Linwood |

So we've got the weekend off or something like that? Lol

Kyrian Linwood |

Okay, so I apologize about my absence for this last week. Big swing in work as to what's gone on. So pretty much what happened is I got promoted in a sense. I'm no longer shadowing one of our senior techs, and am now working by myself. Which is a good thing cause now I'm making more money, but because our main shop is full up on techs, I'm currently working in a quicklane bay. So not only do I have to work on what I would normally do, I've got to do the quicklane duties as well. Because of that, I've got to go in earlier and stay later, so I'm now away from the house for over 12 hours a day. And I'm sure that you guys also know that a daily schedule like that sucks the life out of ya lol. So once again, I apologize for the absence.

Kyrian Linwood |

Aight guys, expect a long time coming post from me tomorrow.

Kyrian Linwood |

I'm sorry guys, it's been a rough two weeks for me. I'm out of the house 12 plus hours a day now, and with the crap I deal with right now, my energy just gets sucked out and I can't even put myself into a posting mood. I had to force myself to my in person game that I run the other night just so that we could get somewhere in that game. I still very much want to play, I just have no drive to really post is all.

Kyrian Linwood |

If you want to NPC for a while, that's fine with me.

Lynnda Windstrike |

Re: Disable Device... I just looked at Kyrian's character sheet, and he doesn't seem to have any skills, feats, or class abilities written down...
Opps! Never mind! I didn't see the link to his sheet on MythWeavers.

Kyrian Linwood |

Lol, sorry about that?

Lynnda Windstrike |

Just to let everyone know: I'm heading out of town for Thanksgiving tomorrow morning, and I have a lot of things I needs to attend to before I leave. My posting rate will be a lot slower than usual until I return on Saturday. Feel free to GMPC Lynnda as needed.

Lynnda Windstrike |

I'd really hate this PbP to die! I'm really enjoying the characters and interactions between the players.
I'm going to PM Holden, and hope he responds.
I'm just going to put this out there:
If Holden doesn't respond, or if he tells us that he can't GM anymore... I'd actaully volunteer to take over the GM duties of this game.
I have copies of both the original AP and the AE, and I've run Runelords before-- well, I've run Runelords into the first parts of Fortress of the Stone Giants. I've never run a PbP before, however.

Kyrian Linwood |

Yea, sorry for the mysterious dropping guys, life has slowly been coming back to me lol
Edit: And after actually catching up on the threads, I'm actually pleased with how he botted me lol. Did some stuff for me that I honestly would've had Kyrian do myself lol. Hope he comes back so that way I can get back in now. I miss the posting, starting to drive me nuts that I can't at least post here lol.

Lynnda Windstrike |

Welcome back, Kyrian!
Alas, I'm thinking that our GM may have flown the coop. It's just shy of a month since Holden's last post, on any of his alieses.
I sent Holden a PM on Monday, and still haven't heard back.
If we're all on-board that this campaign has been left suddenly rudderless, my offer of taking over GM duties still stands.
Let me know what you think!

![]() |

I would really like to continue. Thank you for stepping up! Are you going to make Lynnda an NPC? I would be sorry to lose her, but I understand if you don't feel comfortable trying to keep up with her while running the game.

GM Haladir |

[Putting on my GM hat... er... alias...]
If it's OK with all of you, I'd like to keep Lynnda around as an NPC, at least for a while. I promise to do my very best not to let that character fall into the GMPC trap.
If you're all on board with me taking the reins, I'll put in the request to change GM assignment.

Kyrian Linwood |

I've got no problem with that.

GM Haladir |

Okay, I've submitted the request to take over GM responsibilities of this campaign.
I have extensive IRL GM experience across several game systems, although this will be the first PbP I've ever run. I GM a weekly IRL semi-homebrew game ("Champions of Old Korvosa"), and ran a Runelords campaign through the end of Hook Mountain Massacre. (We ended there when half of my players had to resign due to life issues.)
I have a few questions for the group...
1. Dice Rolling
Would you prefer that I continue Holden's practice of rolling all the dice "behind the screen," ir would you rather roll yourselves on the Gameplay thread? I'd slightly prefer switching to everyone using the dice roller, but I'm fine with either way.
2. Hero Points
I tend to use Hero Points in my IRL games. Would you be interested in adding that mechanic? If you do want to add Hero Points to our campaign, I want to let you know that I don't like to use the additional Hero Point feats, spells, or magic items.
3. External campaign site
Holden built an external campaign site for this game, but I mostly forgot about it. If everyone found it valuable, I could make a new one on Obsidian Portal (I'm an ascended member). Howver, if no one is would be using it, I won't take the time to build a site.
4. Extra content?
Runelords is an excellent campaign out-of-the-box. Hoever, I still added some extra content the last time I ram it. Would you be interested in non-standard extra content, or would you prefer a traditional Runelords experience?
I'll post a little about my GM philosophy and style later today.

Krissina |

1. I prefer rolling in thread, as most of my games tend to do that and I keep forgetting this one is different.
2. I'm easy either way with this.
3. I'd forgotten about that too, I'm fairly easy on it, if you do create it don'e put anything essential on it, as I often post at work and a lot of stuff gets filtered.
4. I have no objection to extra content, I'd probably not notice as I've never played it beyond the first few encounters and have been trying to avoid reading my copy until I'm prepping to run it for a group.

Halvor Tanner |

1. Even if you handle the passive rolls, I'd prefer you do them in the dice roller on the Paizo site.
2. Hero points are things that I tend to forget, like the harrow points in Curse of the Crimson Throne. I'm indifferent.
3. The external site was pretty sweet, but often forgotten. I'd be content with map links and stuff on the campaign tab.
4. No objections to extra content.

![]() |

1. I would be fine rolling for myself in the thread.
2.I haven't used Hero Points in any of the other games I've played, but I would be willing to give them a try.
3. I did not use the campaign site much myself.
4. I am fine with whatever you would like to add!
Thanks!

GM Haladir |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Okay...
1) Let's use the dice roller on the site, like in just about every other PbP. I'll roll for monsters/NPCs behind a Spoiler tag.
2) Instead of formal Hero Points, I may just occasionally overrule a dice roll if things would go very badly for the party.
3) For personal time management reasons, I don't think I'll build a new campaign site. I'll just link externally as needed.
4) Excellent! I have a couple of side-quests in mind that I hope you'll enjoy!
On Haladir's GM Style
To me, the magic of a role-playing game is the collective storytelling aspect. As a GM, I strive to spin a fun, engaging story where the players take on the roles of the protagonists. As a collective experience, I very much encourage players to add to the story. Go ahead and build references to your own (or other PCs'!) backstories in your posts. Make up minor NPCs to interact with. Take the story down an unexpected path.
I'm not a fan of pointless PC death. It's one thing to make a heroic sacrifice to defeat the Big Bad, or to hold the pass to let innocents escape. It's quite another to get decapitated by an owlbear in a random forest encounter, or to get your throat cut during a fight with Thug#3 who happened to score a two critical hits and roll max damage both times. Consequently, my philosophy is not to let a bad die roll derail the plot. (Complicate the plot? Certainly. Derail? No.)
I'm not a huge stickler for rules-as-written, and try to live by rules-as-intended. (This is why I'd make a lousy GM in PFS.) I have no problem with ruling "No. Because that's dumb." Usually, I'm pretty liberal with interpretations, unless it leads to absurdity. None of the PCs in this game use bizzare combinations of corner-case rules, so that's probably not going to be a big deal.
It's less a thing with PbPs, but in the case of rules questions, I like to make a table ruling to keep the encounter moving, and then figure out the real rule between sessions. Since PbP is asynchronous, that's less an issue.
On alignment: To me, alignment is descriptive not prescriptive. Your alignment does not impose upon or limit your actions; your character's personality (of which alignment is a component) should guide your role-playing decisions. Alignment paints with a broad brush, and there are many interpretations. Alignments can shift with character development; indeed, I encourage that as part of character growth. If I think you've been consistently playing a character that's not in accordance with the alignment written on the character sheet, I'll let you know out-of-band.
That's probably about it for now. As soon as the folks at Paizo hand me the reins of this campaign, I'll get new maps and campaign info up on the tabs. Once that's done, we'll be able to continue the fight in the Glassworks!

Kyrian Linwood |

Sorry for the late chime in, I was at work most the day, came home and then my fiance and I went to dinner lol. Everything sounds good to me, I've got no issues with the 4 things you asked. And I'm glad you brought up the back story bit cause it kinda felt like Holden was rushing things too fast for real character development to actually take place. And by part of that, I do of course mean the predicted countless beatings Kyrian will receive from the ladies of course lol. Oh, and with the fact of that he came to Sandpoint looking for someone anyways. No problem giving you the NPC idea for that person if you want to tie in a side quest or add a little to the story. I like doing the same thing for my players, making them feel like they're the story, and not just going through it.

GM Haladir |

Hi, folks.
I'm not sure how long it's going to keep the Paizo Community Team to switch over the campaign to me officially, but I'd like to start moving things ahead.
I should have a new map of the Glassworks ready some time this afternoon, and I'll put links up from within the Gameplay thread.
Regarding combat initiative: I'll roll for everyone, and then let you know who goes when. Everyone should just declare what they intend to do (and make any appropriate rolls), and at the end of the round, I'll write a narrative summary of that round and update the map.
