I take a night to ponder (and eat sushi) and you run off and come up with a much better idea than I could =). Was still hoping for a tentacle in there somewhere...wait, one of the kids could have acquired a tentacle in the process :P.

Derro kidnapping children and performing hideous experiments on them, ruining their lives forever, in service to a necromancer with inscrutable motives. That story warms the cockles of my black, black heart.

I knew I picked the right players for this game!

That's actually a very cool adventure plot. I may have to write that someday!

"And I would have got away with it too, if it hadn't been for you meddiling kids!"

PC: "Zoinks! The necromancer was Old Man Henderson all along!"

Henderson: "I told those kids to stay off my lawn!"

And, of course, that made me think of the College Humor video, CSI: Scooby-Doo

So, what has taken us west over the mountains after defeating the Derro?

Are we chasing the necromancer who was funding the Derro’s operation? I wonder whether he / she / it was not only using the Derro’s activities as a distraction but was also hoping that the melting of skin from living humans would also provide unique donor bodies for resurrection.

I wonder whether we are also returning one of the children to their parents in Brathlewhyte? Maybe a young boy who, whilst badly affected, is not stark raving mad…

He didn't go stark raving mad, but now he has a tentacle arm.

I like the hunting down the necromancer story, with us ending up in our current location following a dusty lead that turns into something else entirely.

Party History
I think we established that Verran and Merick have known each other for a long time. Let's say that they are both from the city of Lepidstadt in northwestern Ustalav, and have ties to Gravecharge, the Cathedral of Pharasma in that university town. When you came of age, the two of you decided to become adventurers, and set off for the city of Karcau, on the shores of Lake Prophyria. You skirted the southern edge of Shudderwood, and near the town of Chastel, you befriended a half-orc named Daimon, who had been chased out of the city of Ardis by the street gang he used to belong to. The three of you continued on to Karcau, figuring that a large city founded on the performing arts would be a good place to find fame and fortune.

An exiled Brevic minor nobleman named Petracleus fled across the lawless River Kingdoms, escaping the corruption of his family. While in the River Kingdoms, he joined up with a wandering dwarven druid named Aymehn. Seeking a place less rough than the River Kingdoms, the pair found themselves in the city of Karcau, in Ustalav. There, they befriended a Taldan minor noblewoman called Countessa, who was seeking leads on the disappearance of her brother: his last letter had been sent from this very city.

While in Karcau, the two trios happened to be staying in the same inn, where you witnessed the murder of a woman who turned out to be a famous Chelish opera singer. You assisted the local constabulary, but then the assassin attempted to target the witnesses of his crime. You banded together to bring the assassin to justice, and have been adventuring together in Ustalav ever since.

Your Last Adventure
After a series of adventures, your group found itself in the small city of Carrion Hill, a rather depressing settlement in the middle of a festering swamplands around the Kingfisher River. While there, you investigated a series of disappearances: many young children had disappeared while on their way to or from school. Clues led you to the warren of subterranean passages underneath the city, and you discovered the culprits: a band of derro had settled in the crypts and sewers of Carrion Hill. In their never-ending quest to cure themselves of light blindness, the derro had been using the captured children as test subjects in their bizarre experiments. The derro had attempted to transfer their own sensitivity to light onto the children; however this did not cure the derro and inflicted a terrible toll on their test subjects: exposure to sunlight causes their skin to melt away! Eight schoolchildren have been rescued, but all of them suffer from maladies both physical and mental-- and none can go outside in the daytime.

Interrogating the derro revealed that the town's schoolmaster had been giving the derro information on where to capture children in exchange for sharing their research-- for the schoolmaster was himself a necromancer! The party revealed the schoolmaster's identity and fought him, but he managed to teleport away, leaving behind a few cryptic notes that referenced the Pharasmin city of Kavapesta. The party has decided to travel to Kavapesta for two reasons: to see if the Pharasmin healers could do anything to help the children warped by the derro, and also to find out what the necromancer is up to.

The party is four days ride west of Carrion Hill, and is approaching the village of Brathlewhyte as the sun dips below the mountains to the west...

If no one has any objections to the above collective background story, I'll get a Gameplay post up later today, and we can start for real!

No objections.

I think it's a great backstory...note for everyone, Petracleus hasn't told any of you about his noble background....

Looking forward to starting the adventure GM :-)

Looks good!

As long as I can keep the part I wrote about Verran's past, I'm good.

Your humble narrator

@Veran: Would you please put the background you wrote into Verran's alias profile? I would recommend putting it after his stats, behind a Spoiler tag if you'd prefer.

Thanks!

I'll slide the background bit in ASAP.

Sorry for lack of update today. Busy day at work, and my wife and I went out for dinner and a movie. I'll get things moving tomorrow.

As we're coming into the last week of the Tax season, if I'm a bit slow on the draw, that's why.

Your humble narrator

Great banter, folks! This inn scene is to help you establish your characters' voices and let you get into their heads.

I would like to know more about Golarion's moon(s). I'll Google it later, but if you know anything about it, Aymehn is curious.

Male Human Techie 2 / Bureaucrat 6

Golarion has one moon, called "the moon." It is nearly completely analogous to Earth's moon, in terms of size, orbital period, color, phases, etc.

Druid 5 || HP 43/43 || AC 18/12 Tch/17 FF || F+8 R+4 W+10 || CMB +4 CMD 15 || Perception +14 || Init +1

Thanks. I'm thinking Aymehn is a bit of a seer. Moon is a good gimmick as it is a big rock in the sky.

Male Human Techie 2 / Bureaucrat 6

I'm an ascendant member of Obsidian Portal, and I just put together a bare-bones campaign page for this group.

There's not a lot there yet aside from write-ups for some of the towns and villages mentioned so far in character background.

I'm not sure how much I'll be using the site, but I've found similar sites useful to post campaign-specific information in a centrally located place.

I am going to be taking a little vacation starting Thursday and through Saturday the 25th. I expect to be able to post regularly during this time, but if I get behind, please bot me as necessary. If you are in one of my games, just be patient, please. I shall try to check in daily, at a minimum.

Your humble narrator

I am going out of town for the weekend and will be leaving tomorrow afternoon. I'll have my smartphone, but am not planning to bring my laptop. I may be able to get a short post or two in, but maybe not. I should be back to my regular posting schedule on Monday.

Wish I could take credit for that line. It's in the boxed text from the module. I'm using as much of that language as I can.

Sorry for being a bit sparse lately. I've been in full on prep mode for a con I'm doing this weekend. I'll probably be even more sparse until Sunday evening. You know how it is, places to go, PCs to kill, and of course all the fun of herding geeks!

Your humble narrator

My elderly (and rather demanding) mother and my fortysomething-but-acts-like-she's-nineteen sister are coming to visit tomorrow and staying with us through Tuesday. I love them both dearly, but they are extremely draining emotionally.

Adding to the stress is that my wife has to leave on a week-long business trip Sunday morning.

I'm not sure how this will affect my posting for the next few days.

Will I have no energy left to post, or will I need the escape?

We shall see!

Male Human Fighter 5 HP 49/49 | AC 27 /T 13 /FF 25 | F +6 R +4 W +4 (+5 vs Fear) | Perc +1 | Init +6

Survived the con, but don't have the mental energy for a post tonight. Should be back on the horse tomorrow.

Your humble narrator

Sorry for having to go silent. The past few days were weirder than expected, but my out-of-town guests are gone. I should be able to resume gameplay tomorrow.

Cool!

Your humble narrator

I have some annoying news regarding my posting frequency...

Due to some idiots getting caught watching porn during the workday, my employer has deployed some "Big Brother is Watching You" software onto all of our work-issued computers. This means that I'm now limited to using my smartphone for gaming posts at work, even during my lunch hour. Unfortunately, it's hard to do long posts from a phone.

I still expect to be able to post from home in the evenings on most days, supplementing with the occasional short post during the day.

Male Human Fighter 5 HP 49/49 | AC 27 /T 13 /FF 25 | F +6 R +4 W +4 (+5 vs Fear) | Perc +1 | Init +6

Thanks for the update, sad as it might be.

It always amazes me the things people think they can get away with on work computers.

Your humble narrator

My Tuesday night Pathfinder game went 90 min over. It's 12:15, and I going to bed. I'll start Round 1 of the combat tomorrow.

Fighter 3 / Bard 3, AC20 / T15 / FF15, F+5, R+8, W+4 (+5 vs Fear), HP17/45, Bardic Performance 11/11 Human Received the Forge Card.

Note that from this evening through until the end of the week, I am taking a family holiday – there is, by all accounts, internet access in the apartment that we are staying in however I am not 100% certain that I will be able to manage daily posting whilst we are away (we shall see but don’t be surprised / alarmed if I make less frequent posts).

GMPC me as required to keep the story moving.

Hope your cool with the way I did the summon spell, GM. If you want me to do it differently in the future, just let me know. I take direction well.

Feel free to ignore any rolls that the Badger would not be permitted by the rules to make. Doesn't look like it will matter much this time around as the Badger rolled very poorly.

Your humble narrator

That's cool!

I like it when players create an alias for their character's pets, complete with statblock... especially if the pet doesn't have standard stats for a creature of its type.

Your humble narrator

Sorry for lack of updates. I had to work 11-hour day on Monday, and today was my weekly IRL Pathfinder game. Hopefully, I'll get the next post up tomorrow afternoon.
