Reta climbs up to the platform above the door and Mogmurch opens the door. You see a big black dog in the cabin, barkin and growling. Slobber runs down his jaws.

Gob-gob |
Peeking over the railing, Reta draws back her bowstring, waiting for the dirty mutt to show itself.
Readied action, Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Chuffee |
Chuffy approaches and stops 5' back from the dog Hi... i'm sorta back... overwhelmed with unpacking but taking a break now that internet is back on. I'm assuming I can't charge because of the mast post in the way, hence, just approaching in the surprise round.
Then he steps forward and attacks the flatfooted dog...
to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
dmg if hits: 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (6) = 9
Poog42 |
Also stepping forward, after Reta shoots and attacking, hoping for the kill shot :
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Damage if hits: 1d4 ⇒ 1 Phooey! :)
Just trying to figure things out (not all that "up" on PF these days, and mentally foggy on top of that) - Chuffee's damage from the PDF is listed as d4-1, not d4+1. And where is the extra d6 coming from? Are there some other character features (feats, attributes, etc.) going on?
And why is Reta's damage +2 with a bow?
Just want to make sure I'm not missing something, and doing less damage than I should...
People can answer in Discussion if they prefer.
Mοgmurch |
Seeing an opening, Mogmurch stabs inward through the open door...
Attack (Surprise Round): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
... and misses. He tries again...
Attack (Round 1): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
... with a bit better luck.
"Come out to play!" he taunts.
Chuffee |
my bad, should have been -1 not +1... but thed6 was beause the dog was still flatfooted, therefore denied its dex, therefore subject to sneak damage
GM Baerlie |
Reta, Chuffy and Poog attack the dog immediately. Reta shoots an arrow in its back, Chuffy pierces a dagger in its side and Poog pushes his dogslicer into the dog's chest. Mogmurch is nervous so he misses on the fist attempt, but the second attempt is more successfull and he brings the dog down.

Feeling cheated again of the kill, Poog channels his energies into searching around.
Thanks for the other explanation (hadn't looked at Chuffee's class), still wondering about Reta's +2 bow damage?

"Hoo! Yay!" Mogmurch dances around in glee, slapping each of his companions on the back in congratulation.
"Big chief muchly wise to pick us," he proclaims, puffing out his chest. "We be bestest! We even do teamwork!"
"We be bestest, we be goblins!"
Continuing to dance around, the alchemist chants a war song.
"Reta shoot dog in the back,
Chuffy stab it; got the knack!
Poog be stabbing in the heart,
Mogmurch slice and do his part!"
Then he remembers something he overheard just before a village raid.
"Three dead dogs, three dead dogs!
See how they bleed, see how they bleed!
They bared their teeth and we drew our knives,
We sliced and we diced and we took their lives,
We'll kill them in threes or in fours or in fives!
Yay, three dead dogs!"
Gob-gob |
Reta grins wickedly as another mutt is laid low. With a cackle, she rushes into the room behind it, to sniff out any loot it may have guarded.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
GM Baerlie |
The room is a blood-splattered chamber of horror. Dead rodents, snakes, and birds have been variously nailed, tied, and hung around the walls. At the far end of the room, a large cauldron bubbles over an iron stove set against the aft wall, its stovepipe chimney extending up through the ceiling. A bloody burlap sack sits on the floor next to the stove. The center of the room contains a long, rickety table surrounded by chairs that contain several grisly decorations — a whole family of skeletal goblins, their bones bleached white and bound together by reeds and twine. One of the goblin heads looks like Scribbleface's.
Reta hears noise coming from the main cabin below. "Did you hear that, Longtungue? Either the dogs are crazy again or there is somebody on the ship." a voice says. "Stay calm stupid bastards!" the voice shouts.
Gob-gob |
"Tha's why you no draw the words... bad things come..." Reta says, with a look of disdain for the remains of Scribbleface. She carefully examines the contents of the bloody sack.
Mοgmurch |
Nagbur nods emphatically and steps in to the side, Gorge at the ready.
I can't manipulate the map from here, but you get the idea.
-Posted with Wayfinder
Chuffee |
Chuffee does the same, entering the room and trying to hide somewhere where he can spring out and get flank when someone comes in.
Gob-gob |
Reta creeps along, gesturing to the floorboards below their feet. She sneaks carefully, seeking out the source of the yelling she just heard.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
FYI, I think the small square on the left is the forward room. Chuffy and Mog seem to be on the Upper Deck, While Poog, I think, is in the 'blood-splattered chamber of horror'. If I'm wrong, let me know, so I can adjust.
Mοgmurch |
That's how I read it. When I was first setting up to open the door for the bow shot I was confused, looking for a platform or something adjacent to the ladder. Then I realized the door opens onto the entire upper deck (basically the "roof" of the main cabin) and I moved Moggy to the side (South) of the door.
I presumed Poog was suggesting we step inside the upper cabin on the assumption "whoever" would be climbing up to check on the dog, and that we would jump him/her upon entry. Now that I can access the map I've moved Moggy's token. If that's not what was intended, please let me know.
Gob-gob |
So, it sounds like all but Reta are in the room (Chuffee's icon is not there in the map, but his last post says he's there).
I was thrown off by the map positions. Reta will join the other is the room, and await the owner(s) of the footsteps.
Quietly closing the scullery door, Reta stifles a giggle as they await their ever-nearing victim. Withdrawing one of the potions from Lotslegs' stash, she downs the contents – her muscles tingle as the longshanks magic sets in.
Drink potion of Bull's Strength
GM Baerlie |
The bloody burlap sack contains the rest of Scribbleface's body.
You hear the door to the main cabin on the main deck open and you hear a few foot steps before the door is slammed. You hear sombody climbing up the ladder outside and suddenly crying and shouting "Who did that to my babies! They are all sloughtered! Show your ugly faces!" a goblin woman shouts.
She stomps towards the door and opens it. "Cuddles?" Behind her sits a giant frog.
GM Baerlie |

Chuffee growls out, "Mog, move!" hoping the alchemist will step away so he can move up and attack while the b*tch is still flat-footed.
Poog42 |
Heh - typical Goblin thinking - "let's all hide in here and jump them"...oops, we're all constrained by a doorway!
If Poog can attack "around the edge" of the door :
Dogslicer: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15 + 1(Bless) = 16
If that's a hit :
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
And no problem if I can't attack around the edge, just let me know.
Baerlie - in my mind I don't think a minute's passed since I cast the Bless, but if it has in yours, just let me know, and adjust the 16 attack to 15.
Otherwise, everyone remember the +1 attack from the Bless!
Mοgmurch |
(I suspect "goblin thinking" is something of an oxymoron...)
Mogmurch begins to protest, then remembers what he himself just said about teamwork. With a frustrated sigh he makes one quick jab at the crazy woman...
Attack: 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 1 = 14 (Presuming, as did Poog, that he can "attack around the edge"; else please ignore.)
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
... and then steps aside. (Icon moved.)
Chuffee |
Chuffee gives MOg a big grin and a nod and steps up 5' to attack the female.

As the door opens, Reta spews forth the fire of the Dragon Brew Gourd, engulfing the approaching goblin and toad in a torrent of alchemical flame.

GM Baerlie |
Mogmorch attacks first, but he's nervous and misses. Chuffy's attack is more effective, he hits and stabs a small wound in her chest. Poog's dogslicer also hits the ugly goblin in the face.
Reta burps a big wall of fire at the goblin woman, but Vorka's reaction is not bad and she evades most of the fire. Although her clothes and hair are scorched.

Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Plus 1 HP splash damage to Mr. Ribbit.

Flask breaks in the square between Vorka and Chuffy. Chuffy's protected by the wall. Vorka, the frog and Mogmurch each take 1 HP damage.
Also: Owie.
GM Baerlie |
Mogmurch throws a flask of acid at the goblin canibal, but the bottle does not break when it hits the floor so it scatters before breaking apart. The acid hits Vorka, the frog and Chuffy.
Thanks for summing that up, makes the GM's life much easier ;)

My head hurts trying to think about avoiding AoO's, but I don't want to be next to two opponents, either. So...
Poog moves to be next to the frog, and attacks :
Dogslicer: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 +1(Bless) = 20
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 Woo-hoo!
Couple of things :
Is where Poog is now a square that was just hit by Reta's fire-breath?
Will I be blocking the way for Mogmurch?
GM Baerlie |
Reta's fire breath hit only Vorka, your square is safe.
Poog attacks the dog with his dogslicer and hits. He pushes the weapon into the frog's body so deeply that Poog's fist is covered with blood.
Vorka hisses when she sees Poog slicing her favorite animal but she attacks Reta who just burnt her hat with her scimitar. She misses.

Seeing Reta directly across from him now (flanking) he swings the Gorge in a mighty (for a goblin) arc!

Crit Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
High on his success, Mogmurch begins chanting a misremembered war song he once heard longshanks Devo-tees of some strange god singing in the distance.
"When to-die time comes around,
you must ribbit!
You will never live it down,
unless you ribbit!
No frog get away
until he ribbit!
No be too late
to ribbit!
Ribbit good!"
GM Baerlie |
Mogmurch swings his gorge at the frog and hits. He cuts out a big filet.
"Stop hurting my baby!" Vorka shouts "Or you will end up in my pot!"
The frog bites at Mogmurch before jumping back.
